Speaker:
00:00:02
Welcome to the first episode
of Unfolding a podcast.
2
:
00:00:05
I'm so glad you're here.
3
:
00:00:07
I am Erica Voell and I help women in
midlife stop overthinking clear old
4
:
00:00:12
patterns and make confident decisions
they actually trust so that they can
5
:
00:00:16
stop putting everyone else first,
finally honor their word to themselves
6
:
00:00:21
and say no to what drains them.
7
:
00:00:23
Today's episode is all about the
pace of spring and that urge to
8
:
00:00:26
bloom before we've actually rooted,
and if you've been feeling wobbly
9
:
00:00:30
or buzzy or like you're supposed to
be doing more, this one is for you.
10
:
00:00:34
It is spring here in Kansas City.
11
:
00:00:36
Definitely.
12
:
00:00:37
And the tulips are up, the
trees are budding, the flowers
13
:
00:00:41
are blooming, and the pollen is
flying everywhere through the air.
14
:
00:00:46
We're all a little sniffly, but what we
all love about spring is what we can see,
15
:
00:00:50
the color, the growth, the aliveness.
16
:
00:00:53
But what we don't see is the part below
the surface, and that's just as important.
17
:
00:00:58
The season isn't just about blooming,
it's about the young plants growing roots
18
:
00:01:02
deeper as they push up through the soil.
19
:
00:01:05
Every client session I have, I start
with a grounding meditation, and
20
:
00:01:09
sometimes I go with an idea of what's
needed based on their energy that I
21
:
00:01:14
tune into before the session and other
times something completely unexpected
22
:
00:01:19
comes through once we get on the call,
23
:
00:01:22
And lately, what keeps coming up again
and again is the need to root down
24
:
00:01:27
and spring gets us so excited to grow.
25
:
00:01:30
Bloom, build, do.
26
:
00:01:33
But without those solid roots beneath
us, any kind of growth is really shaky.
27
:
00:01:38
Think about those trees that
topple over in the strong winds.
28
:
00:01:42
A tree with roots can't stand through
those strong winds, and honestly, some
29
:
00:01:48
days lately feel like a windstorm,
both literally and figuratively.
30
:
00:01:53
Also the astrology This year is so wild.
31
:
00:01:57
Even if you don't follow it closely,
you've probably felt it like big
32
:
00:02:01
energetic shifts, retrogrades, slow
moving planets entering new signs.
33
:
00:02:07
For example, Pluto only changes
signs every couple of centuries, and
34
:
00:02:11
we moved into a new sign recently.
35
:
00:02:15
I had heard that 2025 could be a
major astrological year, but I really
36
:
00:02:20
didn't know what it would feel like
until we're in it, especially now.
37
:
00:02:24
'cause I mean, look, the news, the state
of the world is like shifting a break
38
:
00:02:28
next speed some days, and it's a lot.
39
:
00:02:32
And if you've been feeling unsteady,
buzzy or like your brain has 47 tabs
40
:
00:02:37
open and none of them are loading.
41
:
00:02:39
Pretty common right now.
42
:
00:02:41
You're not alone.
43
:
00:02:42
This is your reminder to come
back to what studies you.
44
:
00:02:45
And the more established your roots are,
the more easily you can bend in the wind
45
:
00:02:50
without breaking just like the trees do.
46
:
00:02:53
I have been working with my own
coach and as we've been working, I'm
47
:
00:02:57
feeling called to revisit some of the
teachings from my coaching program,
48
:
00:03:02
especially the ones that are tied to the
seasons and the five element theories.
49
:
00:03:07
I am also struggling with this shallow
roots and spring in the five element
50
:
00:03:13
theory is the season of wood, but
it's also the season of planning.
51
:
00:03:17
And I've come to realize I'm trying
to move forward and grow without
52
:
00:03:22
stopping to make a plan and get
those roots established and surprise.
53
:
00:03:27
Actually, it's no surprise my
nervous system has been fraying.
54
:
00:03:32
So now I'm taking a step back and I'm
planning so that I can establish those
55
:
00:03:36
roots so that then I can move forward.
56
:
00:03:40
This is nothing new for me.
57
:
00:03:42
People who know me know that I like
to plan, quote unquote plan, and yet I
58
:
00:03:47
get a little planning done and then I
get so excited about the project that
59
:
00:03:52
I just jump in and I move forward.
60
:
00:03:54
And I figure things out as I go.
61
:
00:03:57
I don't know how many times I've been
sewing and making a dress only to realize
62
:
00:04:01
if I had read the directions, I would've
ripped out a whole lot fewer seams.
63
:
00:04:07
My grandpa was an electrical
engineer and he would joke and say,
64
:
00:04:10
you only need the directions when
things aren't coming out just right.
65
:
00:04:14
And I know I've picked that up from him.
66
:
00:04:17
I have also learned that I have to
start at the beginning with making
67
:
00:04:21
IKEA furniture or else we'll end up
with a bookcase that is not a bookcase,
68
:
00:04:25
it's something completely different.
69
:
00:04:27
So what are some things that
you can do to ground yourself
70
:
00:04:31
during this season of growth?
71
:
00:04:33
You can sit in the grass.
72
:
00:04:35
Lean against a tree
73
:
00:04:37
Also turn off your phone.
74
:
00:04:39
Getting away from a
screen is so important.
75
:
00:04:42
Taking some deep, long breaths and plan
your week so that you know what to expect.
76
:
00:04:50
And you're not just flailing around.
77
:
00:04:53
We don't need to rush into the
blooming season that comes later.
78
:
00:04:58
We really just need to build
the kind of roots that will hold
79
:
00:05:01
us so that we can sway and bend
in the wind without breaking.
80
:
00:05:06
I think about all these trees around
Kansas City, we get a really bad
81
:
00:05:10
windstorm, and how many of them
topple over because they have not
82
:
00:05:15
established those really strong roots.
83
:
00:05:19
Thanks so much for listening
to my first episode today.
84
:
00:05:22
If this episode resonated with you, I
would love to hear what landed with you.
85
:
00:05:26
Feel free to send me a message or like
the podcast or share it with someone
86
:
00:05:31
who needs a reminder that rooting
before they grow and they bloom.
87
:
00:05:35
'cause you don't have to rush and
you don't have anything to prove.
88
:
00:05:39
You're right where you're meant to be.
89
:
00:05:41
Take care.
90
:
00:05:42
I'll talk to you next time.
