Shownotes

The new film, BODY CAM (2020), was oddly released only weeks earlier than the unrest that has hit the United States.  The film functions as a commentary on illegal behavior by police officers after an arrest goes unfortunately wrong.  The movie follows the ghost story scenario that became somewhat standard with THE CHANGLING (1980).  The movie asks the basic question  “Is the ghost really malevolent or is it trying to tell those it haunts something?”

Renee (played by Mary J. Blige) is a police officer in a small city in Louisiana.  She recently is reinstated after having been suspended for breaking police procedure.  When a fellow officer is gruesomely murdered during what was a routine traffic stop, she begins to follow puzzle pieces that lead to the prior death of a young black youth.  Soon her discoveries may put her in danger from what may be a supernatural presence.

The movie is receiving mixed reviews though its Rottentomato score usually is solid for independent horror/thriller films.  Nicholas McCarthy, writer and director of such films as THE PACT (2012) and THE PRODIGY (2019), is the screenwriter for this film that is directed by newcomer Malik Vitthal.  Dark Discussions takes a look at this movie and gives their thoughts.
