Three things, in a set order. An object, a person, and something you actually pulled off recently.
About 15 minutes with Steven Webb's calm voice. Perfect for the morning.
The object can be your kettle or your quilt. Picture waking without it, then picture having it back. The person can be a pet, or someone who is gone. Then you tell them the thing you managed, and how proud of it you are. That last bit is usually the uncomfortable one. That is where the joy is.

Stevens new course: Finding Peace in Everyday Life (you choose how much to pay)
Good morning. This is a nice little meditation to
Steven Webb:allow you to find a little joy in every single day. And it's similar to a gratitude meditation where
Steven Webb:we're just going to bring three things to mind that gives us that sense of joy and that life
Steven Webb:is a little better than we perhaps think when we wake up.
Steven Webb:So we'll start by becoming comfortable and just as you're relaxing into a more comfortable position,
Steven Webb:I'm Steven Webb and I'm the host of Stillness in the Storms podcast. I also have a YouTube channel and
Steven Webb:all my links you can find on StevenWebb.uk.
Steven Webb:The link will be below the meditation of this podcast or on YouTube.
Steven Webb:And
Steven Webb:you can catch up with the other podcasts and things like that if you go there. But for now, let's
Steven Webb:just settle in to this moment.
Steven Webb:And as we settle in, remember you can choose to close your eyes gently or just soften your gaze a
Steven Webb:few feet in front of you
Steven Webb:And just become
Steven Webb:equal with the pressure outside. And what I mean by that is whether you're sat in a room or your
Steven Webb:car or the kitchen table, it doesn't matter where you are. What does it feel like for the room and
Steven Webb:you and inside all to be the same pressure?
Steven Webb:As you're breathing in and out.
Steven Webb:Everything just feels equal.
Steven Webb:It's just a different way of relaxing into this moment.
Steven Webb:And as you breathe in calm, breathe out relaxed,
Steven Webb:the mind automatically becomes a little quieter. The
Steven Webb:body becomes a little quieter.
Steven Webb:And the sounds around us become a little bit quieter.
Steven Webb:You don't have to do anything with your breath. Just allow your body to breathe naturally.
Steven Webb:You're just becoming the witness, the one that's aware of the breath.
Steven Webb:You're aware that you're here. You're
Steven Webb:sat.
Steven Webb:You're aware of the pressure on the outside and the inside is
Steven Webb:just perfectly equal.
Steven Webb:Just for us to
Steven Webb:Feel calm in this moment.
Steven Webb:Breathing in calm.
Steven Webb:Breathing out relaxed.
Steven Webb:And if you find your mind wandering, just smile and acknowledge that that's what the mind does.
Steven Webb:And that's okay.
Steven Webb:And then bring it back to the breath.
Steven Webb:And then ultimately the big awareness of this moment,
Steven Webb:which includes everything.
Steven Webb:Your breath, your body, the sounds,
Steven Webb:Your relaxing body.
Steven Webb:Now I want you to bring to mind something that gives you joy. And
Steven Webb:the first thing is something quite simple. It
Steven Webb:could be your cup that holds your morning coffee or the
Steven Webb:kettle that warmed your water for the coffee this morning or your quilt or your pillow.
Steven Webb:Some object that
Steven Webb:gives you comfort
Steven Webb:And feel that joy that that object gives you.
Steven Webb:And you can very briefly imagine your life without it
Steven Webb:wake up tomorrow and that object isn't there.
Steven Webb:And you're searching around for it.
Steven Webb:Or you're maybe if you chose a quilt you maybe you're cold.
Steven Webb:And now imagine what it's like to have it back.
Steven Webb:Welcome back. I
Steven Webb:missed you.
Steven Webb:And the satisfaction that is in your life.
Steven Webb:Now bring your focus back to your breath
Steven Webb:Breathing in calm. breathing out relax
Steven Webb:And the first object just give you a little bit of warmth.
Steven Webb:And this time I want you to bring someone to mind there
Steven Webb:might even be a pet or someone from your past or someone now. And
Steven Webb:someone that gives you particular joy and someone you, not
Steven Webb:in the same way you're grateful for, but someone that just gives you that sense of calmness.
Steven Webb:That wisdom that you know is there.
Steven Webb:And that sense of joy that
Steven Webb:thank you for being there.
Steven Webb:And perhaps you can imagine walking with them or sat on a bench with them somewhere.
Steven Webb:Imagine whatever joy feels like to you. It may be a warmth inside your heart.
Steven Webb:Maybe feel that grow throughout your body
Steven Webb:and Slowly feeling your whole body
Steven Webb:And While they're there, I want you to bring a final thing to mind. And
Steven Webb:it's something you did recently. It's something that you...
Steven Webb:Achieved or something you got over or it's something you overcame that perhaps you thought might be
Steven Webb:more difficult, but you managed it anyway.
Steven Webb:While you're there with the person or pet,
Steven Webb:just share that sense of achievement with the person.
Steven Webb:You did it.
Steven Webb:You achieved it.
Steven Webb:And how does that feel?
Steven Webb:Maybe you could imagine sharing the story with them
Steven Webb:silently in your head, just telling them, What you did and how you felt.
Steven Webb:And tell them how proud you are of yourself.
Steven Webb:And sometimes it might feel a little uncomfortable.
Steven Webb:That's okay.
Steven Webb:This is all part of finding the joy within.
Steven Webb:Joy is that moving from that uncomfortable place to a place that we
Steven Webb:feel comfortable. A
Steven Webb:place that we feel content and
Steven Webb:we feel balanced and we feel a
Steven Webb:sense of acceptance.
Steven Webb:We accept that The quilt or the cup or the object that you came up to
Steven Webb:mind with
Steven Webb:doesn't judge you, doesn't do
Steven Webb:anything but serve you.
Steven Webb:It's just there for you each morning. And
Steven Webb:the same as this person is or was and
Steven Webb:still is in your mind's eye and
Steven Webb:especially in your heart
Steven Webb:And even if you thought of a pet, it's the same.
Steven Webb:Just acceptance of you.
Steven Webb:And the third thing we brought to mind was a
Steven Webb:sense of achievement. A sense of something you were very proud of.
Steven Webb:And the joy that it gave you from accepting that you did it. You achieved it.
Steven Webb:And sharing this with somebody else.
Steven Webb:Feel that sense of your confidence growing. Your belief in yourself and
Steven Webb:ultimately your love and acceptance of
Steven Webb:you're doing okay. You're
Steven Webb:doing well.
Steven Webb:And as we combine this whole sense of joy and acceptance,
Steven Webb:Imagine taking this feeling with you the rest of the day
Steven Webb:reach breath in it's slightly more confidence and acceptance. More love and joy.
Steven Webb:And as life hurdles today, you know you've got it. You may stumble and fall, but you know you can
Steven Webb:get up because you've done it a thousand times already. You
Steven Webb:may not see it, you may not always appreciate it, but you've done it.
Steven Webb:Be really proud of that.
Steven Webb:And we're just going to sit with this feeling for just... 30 seconds or so.
Steven Webb:And just feel it grow with each breath in.
Steven Webb:And in a moment, we're going to open our eyes and come back to the room and a
Steven Webb:sense of what the real world is. But we're going to bring back this confidence and joy and warmth with
Steven Webb:us.
Steven Webb:So five, four, gently open your eyes. Three, shake out your arms.
Steven Webb:Two, one, with a real sense of joy and a smile on your face. How
Steven Webb:does that feel? It's
Steven Webb:really interesting combining the three, the the small little object that we don't very often give
Steven Webb:a sense of joy to. A
Steven Webb:person that we fill this equilibrium with and
Steven Webb:a sense of balance and wisdom that we equate to them but not between us. And
Steven Webb:then finally, us and what we achieve.
Steven Webb:Really important to Remember in the morning what we achieve.
Steven Webb:Good luck the rest of the day. My links are in the
Steven Webb:show notes or below the video. Take
Steven Webb:care and have an awesome day.
