Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another edition

of the Daily Bible Podcast.

3

:

Hey, I'm Pastor Rod, but who are you?

4

:

I'm Pastor pj.

5

:

I don't know.

6

:

You look like a stranger to me.

7

:

I can't.

8

:

Do you have id?

9

:

I see what you're doing on this one.

10

:

Can I be sure that you really

are who you say you are?

11

:

See, I wasn't in town this weekend, so

nobody knows what you're referring to.

12

:

Nobody knows.

13

:

But they're gonna find out soon

enough when you show up and

14

:

they're gonna say, who's that guy?

15

:

Yeah, I think.

16

:

I think everyone deserves to

know that you're wearing a

17

:

different piece of facial jewelry.

18

:

I got new glasses.

19

:

Yeah, I did.

20

:

I'm not comfortable with them yet.

21

:

I think you oughta have the others

just in case people wonder who you are.

22

:

You could switch glasses real quick.

23

:

Yeah.

24

:

And say, oh, it's me.

25

:

It's just me.

26

:

It's just me.

27

:

I say, oh, okay.

28

:

I see.

29

:

No, I got new glasses.

30

:

I, so I had glasses that I got like back

pre COVID and they used to be black.

31

:

And so the silver ones that

I've been wearing, those, they

32

:

weren't supposed to be silver.

33

:

Wow.

34

:

They were black.

35

:

The paint started.

36

:

Chipping off them.

37

:

So I just scraped all the paint off.

38

:

You buffed them?

39

:

Yeah.

40

:

And then I was wearing those.

41

:

And I was wearing 'em for a long time.

42

:

And then the pieces, whatever these

ear pieces are in the very back.

43

:

Yeah, those started to crumble.

44

:

You can buy new ones.

45

:

One of them was still holding on, but

the other one had turned into this

46

:

sharp dagger that was like slicing

my ear every time I put it on.

47

:

Yeah, that's a bummer.

48

:

And it had been like five years

since I had got my eyes checked,

49

:

so I went and got my eyes checked

and got a new pair of glasses.

50

:

That's great.

51

:

I love hot pink on you.

52

:

It does compliment your complexion.

53

:

I think it's going to be startling

for a few people, probably

54

:

for a few weeks at least.

55

:

Probably the poodles on the sides team.

56

:

The poodles.

57

:

Yeah.

58

:

That just made 'em even better.

59

:

Yeah.

60

:

Yeah, I, it went for a change, but I

don't think it's a dramatic change.

61

:

I don't think dramatic.

62

:

It's dramatic to me.

63

:

Yeah.

64

:

Fair.

65

:

It's new, but it's not like I didn't go

contacts that would've been different.

66

:

Yes, that's true.

67

:

So I still, for both

glasses, people, glasses are.

68

:

Usually a positive accessory.

69

:

Yeah.

70

:

It's the one thing that you can add

that feels like it actually does

71

:

really help with the overall aesthetic.

72

:

I agree.

73

:

Yep.

74

:

Because when I take them off and it's like

when you only know somebody with glasses

75

:

on, then you see 'em with them off.

76

:

Yeah.

77

:

It's whoa.

78

:

Talk about startling something happened.

79

:

Yeah.

80

:

I just saw a slack message come through

that said, should I bring my dolly?

81

:

We're talking about a move that's

taken place this weekend, but.

82

:

Out of context that was sent to

our men's compass, men's slack.

83

:

Oh, should I bring my dolly?

84

:

Was it the Manliest man too?

85

:

That'd be funny.

86

:

Anyways, no dolls needed boys.

87

:

Yeah.

88

:

Keep your dolls at home.

89

:

Yeah.

90

:

Hopefully I'm back in town and

everything went okay with the flights.

91

:

Hopefully that would be a good thing.

92

:

What are you trying to do?

93

:

I'm just saying this past, you

don't say things like that.

94

:

Okay.

95

:

Listen.

96

:

God's in control of all things, but yes.

97

:

But you don't invite him to

do something different, dude.

98

:

Okay.

99

:

This past weekend, right?

100

:

Or this past week.

101

:

All right.

102

:

Somebody on our staff had a family

member flying American Airlines,

103

:

which is what I'm flying, okay.

104

:

Out to California, which

is where I'm going.

105

:

Alright?

106

:

And they did do an emergency landing

over in El Paso because one of the

107

:

windows shattered on the cockpit.

108

:

That's un.

109

:

That's disconcerting.

110

:

That is disconcerting.

111

:

Yes.

112

:

Yeah.

113

:

And I guess as they were deplaning,

the pilot is there, as they

114

:

always are to like greet people

as they're coming off the plane.

115

:

Yeah.

116

:

And this guy had like glass and

was, his shirt was all wet and

117

:

everything else, so That's crazy.

118

:

Yes.

119

:

Was that on the news?

120

:

I don't know.

121

:

I'm sure it was somewhere.

122

:

It's probably so common place now.

123

:

Big deal.

124

:

But like planes are going

down all the time now.

125

:

The oxygen masks drop

down and that's crazy.

126

:

That plane was shaking, so that's crazy.

127

:

Hopefully I'm back in town.

128

:

I prefer not to think in those ways.

129

:

I'm with you on that and I know

my family would as well, so Yeah.

130

:

That's why I'm saying this

after I'm already back in town,

131

:

you could just take the bus.

132

:

That'd be a long bus drive.

133

:

Yeah.

134

:

Plus there's some.

135

:

Shady characters on the bus.

136

:

But if you go on a nice bus,

they have buses now where the

137

:

seats are captain's chairs, and

they vibrate and they have wifi.

138

:

They're really cool looking buses,

but I think I would've had to

139

:

leave a lot earlier than I did.

140

:

That's okay.

141

:

That's okay.

142

:

You're like, you can be

gone longer than fine.

143

:

Could be gone longer.

144

:

Gone back in one piece on a nice bus ride.

145

:

There it is.

146

:

Get charter, a bus.

147

:

There we go.

148

:

Or buy a Tesla and have

it drive you by itself.

149

:

Or what if I just had

Pastor Mark drive me?

150

:

That works?

151

:

Yeah.

152

:

I volunteer Pastor Mark to take you.

153

:

Okay.

154

:

To and from California.

155

:

Awesome.

156

:

Great.

157

:

It's done.

158

:

It's done retroactively.

159

:

Done.

160

:

Done.

161

:

Okay.

162

:

Alright, let's jump into Zechariah 10.

163

:

We're gonna finish Zechariah today.

164

:

There's a lot in Zechariah.

165

:

There is?

166

:

Yeah.

167

:

Yeah.

168

:

It's a hard book.

169

:

It is a hard book.

170

:

Remind me why you didn't preach it again.

171

:

I'm hurting right now.

172

:

Because it didn't fit in the

minor prophet series did not fit.

173

:

Yeah.

174

:

Tell Zacharia that.

175

:

Hey buddy, I will.

176

:

I'll be like, Hey, when you

see him in heaven, luck, man.

177

:

If you don't make it back from

this plane flight thing, you say,

178

:

Hey man, I need to apologize.

179

:

You weren't able to fit

into my series here.

180

:

Yeah.

181

:

He's gonna take issue with you, I'm sure.

182

:

No, he won't because it'll be all good.

183

:

Because we'll be in heaven.

184

:

He'll be like, I understand.

185

:

Yeah.

186

:

You think so?

187

:

Yeah.

188

:

You think so?

189

:

He'll be like, he confused me too.

190

:

It's true.

191

:

I bet.

192

:

When he's going through

these Yeah, he did though.

193

:

He was confused by these things.

194

:

'cause he is having to

ask, what does this mean?

195

:

Peter said that.

196

:

Yeah.

197

:

Yeah.

198

:

This is hard.

199

:

It, yes, it is hard.

200

:

So if you feel like

it's hard, I'm on mute.

201

:

Go ahead you, you're with everybody.

202

:

Alright.

203

:

Ze 10.

204

:

The.

205

:

The chapter 12, chapter 13.

206

:

These are really encouraging

and awesome chapters.

207

:

Not that chapter 10 11 need

to be jettison or anything.

208

:

I'm not saying that,

but Chapter 10 is this.

209

:

Chapter 10 is basically God

is focusing on the continued

210

:

restorative work that he's going.

211

:

Do that.

212

:

The Messiah's gonna do he's

gonna punish the false shepherds.

213

:

So we've talked about shepherds before.

214

:

These shepherds are most likely

the spiritual leaders of Israel.

215

:

And so the Messiah's gonna come and

punish the false shepherds who had

216

:

done so much harm to his people.

217

:

And he is gonna then turn around and

he's gonna be with them both as the

218

:

true shepherd, the Good Shepherd.

219

:

Think John chapter 10, but also

as their powerful military ruler.

220

:

So.

221

:

The expected military political messiah,

the Jews are going to get that Messiah.

222

:

It's just not when they thought they were

gonna get that he is going to come back

223

:

and he is gonna come back with vengeance

and he's going to conquer and he's gonna

224

:

rule and he's gonna lead and nobody's

gonna be able to stand up against him.

225

:

But that's gonna be the millennial

kingdom and that's what Chapter 10 is

226

:

anticipating and looking forward to.

227

:

So verses six through 12, then God

promises to bring all Israel back

228

:

during this time as he scattered them.

229

:

So he's gonna bring them back

and I find it interesting.

230

:

He says, I'm gonna whistle for them to.

231

:

To bring them back.

232

:

It's almost like you

whistle for your pet dog.

233

:

It's like God's I'm gonna whistle for my

people and they're gonna come back to me.

234

:

My dad used to whistle

for me and my brother.

235

:

Yeah.

236

:

And now is that weird?

237

:

Was it like a unique whistle?

238

:

You knew that was your dad's whistle?

239

:

He's the only one who ever whistled.

240

:

Okay.

241

:

So I would say yes.

242

:

Yes.

243

:

It is unique in the fact that I.

244

:

I only later in my life realized

that it's really weird to

245

:

have someone whistle for you.

246

:

But was it like just a singular,

like you heard it and you're

247

:

like, okay, that's the whistle.

248

:

I need to go back because he's

the only one who whistles.

249

:

That's my point though.

250

:

No one else whistles.

251

:

There's with a dog like you go.

252

:

It wasn't like that wasn't, you're

trying to, it wasn't like that but

253

:

have you ever whistled for your kids?

254

:

No.

255

:

No.

256

:

My dad whistled for us.

257

:

I snapped at my kids.

258

:

Okay.

259

:

See yeah, I don't know.

260

:

The whistle just feels.

261

:

Unusual.

262

:

It was no one else.

263

:

No one else did.

264

:

Yeah, that's fair.

265

:

Anyway God's gonna whistle for his people.

266

:

God's gonna whistle.

267

:

So I guess it's fine actually.

268

:

Yeah, I, after saying all

that, it's clearly very fine.

269

:

Yeah.

270

:

Chapter 11 though is gonna provide a

little bit of an interlude in a, in a

271

:

flashback 'cause all these blessings

are not gonna come immediately.

272

:

'cause Israel's gonna.

273

:

The Messiah at his first appear, and

they're gonna suffer judgment for it.

274

:

And so verses one through

three, you've got of chapter

275

:

11, that wrath is going to come.

276

:

The people are gonna reject their

true shepherd in verses four through

277

:

10 and then 12 and 13, they're gonna

put his worth at 30 pieces of silver.

278

:

That was the amount that a person would

pay for a wounded slave during this time.

279

:

And so that is the price

that's put on the shepherd.

280

:

That's also the price, if you're thinking

about it, that's put on the life of

281

:

Jesus as the Pharisees agree with.

282

:

Judas to portray Jesus

for 30 pieces of silver.

283

:

And we get some pretty detailed response

that says, let it be given over to the

284

:

potter, and then the money is gonna

be taken and cast into the temple.

285

:

That's exactly what happens

when Judas agrees to betray.

286

:

Jesus goes and does that

feels guilty about it.

287

:

Comes back, throws the

money into the temple.

288

:

And what do the religious

leaders do with it?

289

:

They take it and they buy the

potters field and that's where

290

:

the poor are going to be buried.

291

:

So chapter 11 is really.

292

:

Depicting the rejection of the

Messiah at his first coming.

293

:

Okay, so would Zacharia

chapter 11 qualify?

294

:

As prophecy about Jesus?

295

:

I would say yes.

296

:

Okay.

297

:

I assume so.

298

:

Yeah.

299

:

That's how I understand it as well.

300

:

Yeah.

301

:

Most people probably would look at this

and at face value as they read it, they're

302

:

not gonna say, oh, this is clearly saying

this is gonna be true of the Messiah.

303

:

So how does this work then?

304

:

Because we often, as Christians will tell

unbelievers, look, you can trust the Bible

305

:

because there's predictive prophecy in it.

306

:

And we might even think about Zechariah

11, where you got the 30 pieces of silver,

307

:

it gets tossed into the temple, yada.

308

:

But it doesn't say that.

309

:

It doesn't say, this is a prophecy

predicting the Messiah's life.

310

:

So how do we put those pieces together

when it clearly doesn't say that, but we

311

:

could say, man, this fits too well to be

anything other than a predictive prophecy.

312

:

And I think that's part of the

nature of progressive revelation

313

:

in that, is that is we have the

fullness of gads revealed word.

314

:

We're able to read the Old

Testament with the New Testament.

315

:

In mind.

316

:

And we also read the New Testament

with the Old Testament in mind.

317

:

And so because we consider the full

canon of scripture, we're able to

318

:

understand at different layers what

the Old Testament Saints didn't fully

319

:

comprehend or comprehend, or didn't

fully understand during that time.

320

:

And even the New Testament saints didn't

fully understand or fully comprehend.

321

:

We have the fullness of it

revealed to us in God's word.

322

:

And that's a great privilege that we have.

323

:

So we can look back at things like this

and see, yes, there's fulfillment here.

324

:

Even though this doesn't say this is

specifically about the Messiah, we

325

:

can read it and say this clearly is.

326

:

Speaking of the Messiah, just

like in Psalm 22, my God,

327

:

why have you forsaken me?

328

:

When David's talking about that, you could

read that and say that's about David.

329

:

But we read that and we're like,

clearly this is about Jesus.

330

:

He's looking forward to

what's gonna happen to Jesus.

331

:

And so here in Zechariah, I

think it's the same principle.

332

:

So if skeptic or one of our friends

says, yeah you're just reading into it.

333

:

You're reading into it what

you want to read into it.

334

:

You're encouraged to do so because

it reinforces your belief system.

335

:

Anything you might say

to someone like that?

336

:

I think we have to remember when

we're arguing with an unbeliever

337

:

about the interpretation of scripture,

we're arguing with somebody that's

338

:

not playing with a full deck.

339

:

Not meaning mentally taco,

short of a taco platter.

340

:

Pickle.

341

:

Short of A window.

342

:

A window.

343

:

No we're dealing with somebody who is.

344

:

They don't have the spirit within them

to be able to understand scripture.

345

:

And so we have the Holy Spirit dwelling

within us who helps us understand

346

:

scripture and understand all of these

different layers and how they all

347

:

correlate and connect to one another.

348

:

So I think, not understand but accept.

349

:

Maybe not understand.

350

:

Yeah, fine.

351

:

'cause understanding is often challenged.

352

:

Fair.

353

:

But accept them and

embrace them at face value.

354

:

True by faith.

355

:

Yes, true.

356

:

So if you've got an unbeliever

going, I don't see it.

357

:

I'm not surprised at that.

358

:

I'm not any, but at the same time, it's

also not gonna shake my faith because

359

:

you're dealing with somebody that's

reading it without the aid and help

360

:

of the Holy Spirit and dwelling them.

361

:

Yeah.

362

:

And I could also say too, all

the scripture points to Jesus

363

:

in some way, shape, or form.

364

:

Yes.

365

:

He's the pinnacle.

366

:

Even as we said that, I think in the last

podcast, we're trying to make the point

367

:

here, the Old Testament points to Christ.

368

:

Yes.

369

:

And that's what he did with the two

disciples on the road to Emmaus.

370

:

He showed them, beginning with Moses and

looking at through the whole scriptures.

371

:

He's pointing out this all points to me.

372

:

Yeah.

373

:

And if we read the scripture is looking

at Jesus and we find ways that he, and

374

:

this can go wrong, let just qualify.

375

:

This can go wrong.

376

:

And maybe there are books that are written

that create a mountain out of a molehill.

377

:

You shouldn't do that.

378

:

But by and large, scripture

does point to Jesus.

379

:

So to see Jesus in these

scriptures is not a wrong thing.

380

:

Yeah, I agree with everything I just said.

381

:

Chapter 12 through 14, really pivot to

the future redemption and deliverance

382

:

of Israel and chapter, I should say,

chapter 11 ends by talking about

383

:

this false shepherd that's gonna rise

and that false shepherd that's gonna

384

:

rise appears to be the antichrist.

385

:

And the antichrist is gonna be on the

scene again in chapter 12 because we

386

:

open up with the battle of Armageddon.

387

:

And we open up with the ultimate

eschatological victory of Christ and

388

:

his forces over the forces of evil.

389

:

And so Chapter 12 sets up the millennial

kingdom and sets up the future

390

:

deliverance of the people of Israel.

391

:

But we still have to deliver

with deal with Israel's.

392

:

Spiritual deliverance and the need for

Israel to be spiritually acceptable

393

:

before God because there's not a new

way for them to be made right with God.

394

:

It's always going to be the same

as it was for you and for me.

395

:

When it comes to our need to be made

right with God, they've gotta have

396

:

their sins dealt with or atoned for.

397

:

And so that is depicted in verses

10 through 14 of chapter 12

398

:

and into chapter 13 verse one.

399

:

Israel is gonna re realize that they

made an error by rejecting the Messiah

400

:

at his first coming, like we were

just talking about in chapter 11.

401

:

And that.

402

:

Realization is gonna

lead them to mourning.

403

:

I think this is the godly grief

that Paul talks about in Second

404

:

Corinthians chapter seven.

405

:

This is genuine repentance that is gonna

lead to them trusting then in Jesus,

406

:

chapter 13 verse one, and realizing

that this fountain has been opened

407

:

for them to cleanse them from sin.

408

:

And that fountain is the blood of Christ.

409

:

That fountain is the salvation.

410

:

That was wrought for them at the cross.

411

:

And so those that are part of God's

people are going to make that decision.

412

:

Is that everybody in

the millennial kingdom?

413

:

No.

414

:

There's going to be those that still

reject Christ and remain stubbornly

415

:

disobedient during this time, but those

that God is going to deliver spiritually

416

:

during this timeframe are those that are

going to have realized what they did.

417

:

Now they meaning corporate

Israel did in nailing him to the.

418

:

The tree and then the repentance

that then leads to faith that

419

:

produces the forgiveness of sin.

420

:

This redemption is going to be brought

to Israel when they realize that the

421

:

error in crucifying, the true shepherd,

the good shepherd and that is what

422

:

we see here in chapter 12 and 13.

423

:

I love this imagery in chapter

13 of a fountain being opened.

424

:

It reminds me that there's an ever.

425

:

Flowing spring available to me where my

sins can be forgiven and washed away.

426

:

I can never outstand the grace of

God because the fountain is eternal.

427

:

It springs from the blood of Christ.

428

:

It is his sacrifice on the cross

that makes us clean, and that

429

:

means all of my sin, past, present,

and future has been dealt with.

430

:

I love this and it means I can

always go to this fountain.

431

:

Jesus ever lives to intercede for me.

432

:

Because of what he's done.

433

:

And I love that.

434

:

Eventually Israel's gonna see this.

435

:

This is exciting to me.

436

:

I can just imagine what it's gonna

look like for the lights to finally

437

:

turn on for them and for them to

feel this mixture of deep sorrow

438

:

and sadness and great joy and faith.

439

:

I can't wait and I hope

I get to see this day.

440

:

Yeah.

441

:

Yeah.

442

:

In the end of chapter 13, this

is I guess I should back up and

443

:

correct something I said there.

444

:

This is not yet the millennial kingdom

because this is leading into that.

445

:

This is them during

the tribulation period.

446

:

I think realizing the error of their

ways, and so this is the purification

447

:

of those that are gonna be.

448

:

Genuine believers during this time because

then the tribulation is going to come,

449

:

and that's depicted here at the end of

chapter 13 in verses seven through nine.

450

:

And during this refining time of purifying

the draws from the nation of Israel

451

:

the nations are gonna gather against.

452

:

Israel and against Christ again.

453

:

And that's depicted in

the Book of Revelation.

454

:

And then we turn it to Zechariah, chapter

14, where the final victory is depicted.

455

:

And this is where the

Messiah is gonna return.

456

:

He's gonna land both his

feet on the Mount of Olives.

457

:

The Mount is gonna split, there's

gonna be a valley there, and the

458

:

day of the Lord is going to come and

establish the throne of Christ forever

459

:

and ever from that time forward.

460

:

The millennial kingdom is going

to come, it's gonna be the.

461

:

That time of great celebration and great

joy, but I guess the repentance is taking

462

:

place during the tribulation period.

463

:

That precedes that.

464

:

That makes sense.

465

:

Yeah.

466

:

Hey, you remember that

song that Pastor Ben wrote?

467

:

Yes.

468

:

That looking upon the one that we pierced?

469

:

Yeah, you should do that song.

470

:

That's a good song.

471

:

That's a great song.

472

:

I love that song.

473

:

Yeah.

474

:

I think HB even recorded it

on Spotify, is that right?

475

:

Yeah.

476

:

No kidding.

477

:

Yeah.

478

:

Not HB Charles Huntington Beach.

479

:

Yeah.

480

:

Yeah.

481

:

I think they recorded,

what's the name of that song?

482

:

It's gotta be under Ben Blake's name.

483

:

I would imagine so, yeah.

484

:

I'm gonna look and see if I can find it.

485

:

That's a great song.

486

:

It is.

487

:

Maybe we can link it for you guys,

'cause it's such a good song and

488

:

it's based off of Zacharia chapter.

489

:

1212 is what it is.

490

:

Yep.

491

:

So lemme pray and then we'll be

done with another episode and

492

:

done with the Book of Zacharia.

493

:

God we are.

494

:

Anticipating that future time when you

do open the eyes of the lost and open

495

:

the eyes of the lost of the nation of

Israel and show them Christ and meet their

496

:

mourning with the great joy of knowing

that their sins can be forgiven in Christ.

497

:

Lord, we anticipate that day.

498

:

We pray for that day.

499

:

We ask even that you would hasen that

day because that means you will have

500

:

come back for your church and we'll be

with you, and we want to be with you.

501

:

We don't wanna be.

502

:

Here anymore.

503

:

We long to be in your presence

and with our savior Jesus

504

:

Christ, and so hasten that day.

505

:

We do ask and we do pray, and I know

we'll have a front row seat for a lot

506

:

of this as it's unfolding before us.

507

:

And so now just use books like Zechariah

and others to prepare us as much as

508

:

possible for that time and to cause us

to our affections, to be stirred for that

509

:

time so that we will long for it and pray

for it, and work towards that end as well.

510

:

So we pray this all in Jesus' name.

511

:

Amen.

512

:

Amen.
