Speaker:

Hello, and welcome magical creatures to the Wealth Witches podcast.

Speaker:

This is a place where we brew financial empowerment and mix in a little sprinkle

Speaker:

of magic. I'm Katelyn Magnuson, your guide on this enchanted

Speaker:

journey to financial enlightenment. Here, we honor all identities and

Speaker:

invoke our inner witches to create holistic wealth and prosperity. So

Speaker:

grab your crystals, open your minds, and let's get ready to conjure some

Speaker:

financial clarity.

Speaker:

Welcome back to the Wealth Witches podcast. I'm your host,

Speaker:

Katelyn Magnuson, and I'm really excited for this episode,

Speaker:

but I'm not ever excited for them. We're going to be recapping

Speaker:

2024, and we're going to be discussing what's to come in 2025.

Speaker:

And I want to start off, first of all, with a heartfelt thank you

Speaker:

to everyone that listens. Everyone that takes the the

Speaker:

time to share this, to send us their friends, to post about it, to

Speaker:

leave a comment or a review. It means the world. I don't do

Speaker:

this for myself. I do this for you. I do this for the

Speaker:

listeners. I do this for our clients. I do this for people

Speaker:

that are wanting not feel so alone in the world, that are wanting a

Speaker:

different take on finances and accounting, who are wanting to

Speaker:

understand how to be more holistic when it comes

Speaker:

to their finances, how to embrace that woo and the wealth,

Speaker:

and have that, and hold space for it, and pay it off.

Speaker:

And essentially at the end of the day to create a life of ands not

Speaker:

ors. And that's something that I have always valued.

Speaker:

I, for the longest time growing up, you know, you can have this or

Speaker:

this thing. Whatever you did, there had to be trade offs. And I I do

Speaker:

think that there are some areas that can be the case, you know. Maybe you

Speaker:

can't have everything all the time all at once, but I

Speaker:

am absolutely here for a life of Anne's. I want to be able to travel

Speaker:

and have, you know, my loving

Speaker:

household with my rescue furball holes. And, I

Speaker:

wanna be able to run a successful business and also be able to take

Speaker:

time away from it and also have a team that feels supported

Speaker:

and has clients that they love working with and vice versa, has clients

Speaker:

that rave about us and can't imagine going anywhere else. You know,

Speaker:

we're a staple in their businesses or their lives, and so much of

Speaker:

that has come true this year. I

Speaker:

we wouldn't be here without you, so thank you. And I'm

Speaker:

really excited for what 2025 is to bring because 2024 has been a super

Speaker:

transitional year. We rebranded the podcast from the

Speaker:

comfort Confident Money podcast to Wealth Witches. I had my

Speaker:

Wealth Witches trademark accepted. I stepped out

Speaker:

a little bit, got vulnerable. I got political on TikTok.

Speaker:

That went really well, most of most of the time. Let's just

Speaker:

say that it absolutely attracted my people and repel my people, and

Speaker:

I'm here for more of that. I'm here for more of that in 2025. I

Speaker:

am here for more of showing up with myself and discussing

Speaker:

being autistic and ADHD, having

Speaker:

unique experiences for me that are also shared experiences of so

Speaker:

many others. Because if anything from this last year

Speaker:

I've learned, especially from TikTok,

Speaker:

very rarely are you actually alone in something. Even when you're alone in it in

Speaker:

the moment, someone else has experienced something similar, the same thing. They might be going

Speaker:

through it right now. And building community is so much of

Speaker:

my focus in the coming year. Part of that is here. Part of that is

Speaker:

on YouTube. You might be watching and listening to this on YouTube

Speaker:

actually right now, depending on where you happen to find it. If you're not

Speaker:

and you're listening to the podcast, just a reminder that we do have a brand

Speaker:

new YouTube channel. Not gonna commit anyone to a time frame, but it

Speaker:

is the tail end of 2024 right now, and I do expect to have it

Speaker:

up and running soon. But you still can subscribe to it in the interim. It'd

Speaker:

be one of the absolute first supporters there. So

Speaker:

couple of things that we did outside of the trademarks. We

Speaker:

did hire a new part time team member. We continued to

Speaker:

expand and update our services and offerings, which we're really

Speaker:

excited. One of the biggest things that we did and something that I think any

Speaker:

business owner really should do at least on an annual basis. But anyone that has

Speaker:

seasonality to their business, who has a peak and an off season, which

Speaker:

honestly most businesses that I know, after your peak season, take

Speaker:

some time. Do a postmortem. What worked well? What didn't work

Speaker:

well? Ask your clients. Ask your team. Ask yourself.

Speaker:

Take notes during the busy season for, like, what broke? What was

Speaker:

clunky? You know, where where did you brush up against bottlenecks? Because

Speaker:

it can be so easy to get to the end of the year and the

Speaker:

end of the season or whatever it is, the the push that you're in, and

Speaker:

to kind of, you know, gloss over what things were to just completely

Speaker:

have forgotten. So that's something that we did this year. We had switched tax

Speaker:

softwares for any of you that work with us for taxes. We sort of tax

Speaker:

offers tax secure upload systems. We'd switched to Financial

Speaker:

Cents, and it was our 1st full tax season using it. There were

Speaker:

definitely improvements that need to be made both on our end, things that our team

Speaker:

found that we were like, we didn't love this. But once you're in it, you're

Speaker:

kinda committed to it for the season. And we did keep Financial

Speaker:

Cents because it wasn't Financial Cents that was the issue. It was how we'd set

Speaker:

up some templates. And then what I did this summer is I talked to

Speaker:

probably 30 plus clients, and I asked them what they liked, what they didn't like.

Speaker:

Was there anything they would have improved? Was there anything they found frustrating? And then

Speaker:

I also shared the things that we had noticed that we were planning to change.

Speaker:

And they were, you know, looking forward to it. They're excited, but we got some

Speaker:

really good feedback. And that allows us to

Speaker:

reshape what our templates and what our experience looks like for this year. So

Speaker:

really excited for that. I did run can't believe I

Speaker:

buried the lead here. I did run the mastermind, the get your finance shit together

Speaker:

mastermind, which I used to run for anyone that's been here for a while. I

Speaker:

used to run that 2 to 3 times a year. Prior to building a team,

Speaker:

I used to put out a ton of course in Mastermind and

Speaker:

educational content, and I was a little bit less service heavy now. Of

Speaker:

course, we service some really amazing business owners and love

Speaker:

working with them. But well, I've been building a team for the last 3 years

Speaker:

and navigating what that looks like and, you know, balancing our skill sets and

Speaker:

our offerings and clients and just trying to make sure it all worked.

Speaker:

I had stopped doing a lot of the teaching that I love so much. And

Speaker:

I ended up this summer, late June or early July, and

Speaker:

I I finally had this sort of strike of intuition.

Speaker:

And I decided I was like, I I wanna run the mastermind again. I think

Speaker:

it's time. I hadn't ran it since, I think, February of 2021, so we were

Speaker:

going on three and a half years. And I hadn't decided

Speaker:

if I wanted to scrap it altogether or

Speaker:

not after this. And this was kind of a test run for me. So this

Speaker:

mastermind was different than I've ever ran it in the past. Every mastermind iteration is

Speaker:

different. I update materials. It is live. It's tailored to the course

Speaker:

participants. And what was so interesting to me though this time is

Speaker:

I took a swing. And I had my really dear friend, Robin, with

Speaker:

Wicked Veracity. She gifted free free sessions as one of the

Speaker:

fast action bonuses. She is a Hellenistic astrologer and is

Speaker:

brilliant. And, you know, if you're like, hey. What what does astrology

Speaker:

have to do with finances? I'm showing up again

Speaker:

as myself. Something that I really have delved

Speaker:

deeply into over the last 2 years is my own personal astrology and

Speaker:

those of the people in my life and how that influences both

Speaker:

myself and them and our interactions and relationships in the world. And it

Speaker:

was something that as part of stepping up and showing up

Speaker:

as myself, I wanted to bring the woo into the wolf. And we also

Speaker:

had a wonderfully brilliant, educator and speaker and

Speaker:

coach, Acelyn. Acelyn McKenna came in, and she spoke all

Speaker:

about, nervous system regulation. And in the

Speaker:

mastermind, she was one of our guest speakers. We had Chelsea Abriel come in, and

Speaker:

she did this magical booty yoga session to, you

Speaker:

know, move your energy, move your body, provide grace. It was it was

Speaker:

such an interesting way to run this mastermind. And I was really

Speaker:

nervous, and I didn't push the woo side of it a lot. And

Speaker:

we got into it. Not only do we have people that are, you know, interested

Speaker:

in tapping and human design. We did have a human design expert. Jess Galvin came

Speaker:

in, and, she was fantastic. But she and then we had our our

Speaker:

friends over at inflow from the legal side, and so much of

Speaker:

this was bringing all the different facets of what

Speaker:

I have found to help me as a business owner, as

Speaker:

a leader, as a founder, as a woman, as, you know,

Speaker:

individual in the society, and I I brought them together. And they're you know, I

Speaker:

brought in the aspects that I felt were relevant to understanding how you

Speaker:

operate in the world, how you show up, and how your finances function.

Speaker:

So we covered taxes, we covered quarterly estimates, you know,

Speaker:

business entity types, income and expenses, accounting software

Speaker:

setup, you name it. And it

Speaker:

was absolutely a fucking blast.

Speaker:

I haven't had that much fun, honestly, in a really long time.

Speaker:

We wrapped it up last week. We had our very last office hours, and that

Speaker:

was something that I did that was something I haven't ever done before. We would

Speaker:

do the trainings every week, and then we'd have a Facebook group for support. And

Speaker:

frankly, I would just assume rather never get in Facebook again in my

Speaker:

life. And we decided to do office hours

Speaker:

in Gather, which is kind of like a Mario esque,

Speaker:

platform to hang out, and it was really interesting. I was introduced to it by

Speaker:

someone else. And we had so much fun in there. And the office

Speaker:

hours were helpful in letting, 1, being able to

Speaker:

provide support on anything that was coming up. But we had our team members hop

Speaker:

in. You know, we talked about sales tax, like, sometimes I was in there for

Speaker:

things. And that really, I think, not only

Speaker:

solidified the learning that was going on, but

Speaker:

allowed space for someone to process something from 2 weeks ago that maybe

Speaker:

they had questions on. They felt like they couldn't ask it, you know, because

Speaker:

we were a couple weeks past that. So it went really well. The

Speaker:

feedback that we got was honestly, brought some

Speaker:

tears, not ironically, brought some tears to my eyes as I

Speaker:

was reading the feedback. And so I do plan to run it again next fall.

Speaker:

I at this point in time, I don't plan to run it more than once

Speaker:

a year, but it was an absolute and utter

Speaker:

delight. And anyone listening to this that participated in the mastermind,

Speaker:

especially this first brand new iteration, I just wanna say thank you so

Speaker:

much. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for participating.

Speaker:

Thank you for making it fun. I

Speaker:

absolutely loved it, and it was one of the I didn't want

Speaker:

it to end. And I know that sounds really cheesy. And if there was a

Speaker:

way that I could continually, have you all in there, I

Speaker:

absolutely would. Maybe we'll have something in the future. Never say never, but I

Speaker:

do plan to run it again next fall. For anyone that's like, I'm so

Speaker:

bummed I missed it. And I'm sure that that'll be a little bit different than

Speaker:

this one was even. The exciting news though is that years ago,

Speaker:

I had created a self study version of this. And I had gone through. I'd

Speaker:

done, you know, 4 or 5 iterations of this. I'd really gotten it down to

Speaker:

a science of what needed to be covered. And we're going to be

Speaker:

relaunching the self study version, completely revamped,

Speaker:

all brand new information. You know, I have another three and a half years

Speaker:

of experience. We have an entirely different

Speaker:

framework to be working in. We have feedback that's super relevant from new clients.

Speaker:

You know, we're out of the pandemic, and we're navigating what the world

Speaker:

is now, and that provides different

Speaker:

information, different education that needs to be included in there. So

Speaker:

if you're listening and you're interested in it, the self study

Speaker:

course we're still fine tuning, ironing out a couple

Speaker:

of those last details, but I am thrilled. I'm so thrilled

Speaker:

to have the self study version going out into the world very,

Speaker:

very soon. And then to have committed to running the

Speaker:

mastermind was such a fantastic success this

Speaker:

year that it absolutely encouraged me to be doing more of that. And,

Speaker:

also, that's my biggest focus for this next year is the

Speaker:

team that I have now is killer.

Speaker:

They are a delight. They are interested. They are learning. They

Speaker:

are showing up for our clients, and our clients are doing the same. And that

Speaker:

finally puts me in a place where I'm able to

Speaker:

do more education. I'm able to do more trainings. I'm able to show up in

Speaker:

the world and create content, whether it's on TikTok,

Speaker:

whether it's on YouTube, whether it's this podcast, and

Speaker:

that is what I have so much fun doing. I I get get to speak

Speaker:

more too. I got to do several speaking engagements in

Speaker:

2024, and I am looking to do 12 speaking engagements

Speaker:

in 2025. It'll be a big jump. And so if you need

Speaker:

someone to talk about any sort of finance topic,

Speaker:

especially merging some woo on your person,

Speaker:

I'd love to hear from you. But that is really what I'm looking forward to

Speaker:

in 2025 is more connecting, more showing up, more

Speaker:

education, more existing in this

Speaker:

space with amazing humans. And I have met some of

Speaker:

the coolest people both, as podcast guests this

Speaker:

year, as you know, mutuals that have been connected with me on

Speaker:

TikTok, on Instagram. And that has been

Speaker:

an absolute delight as someone that lives in the middle of nowhere that is an

Speaker:

introvert, and that tends to get most of their socialization

Speaker:

from client interactions in a given day. Being able

Speaker:

to expand those relationships with

Speaker:

colleagues, with other people in complementary industries

Speaker:

has been really cool. Additionally, I have gone to spend

Speaker:

time with friends this year. And I know that that might sound like a no

Speaker:

brainer for so many of you, but I have started

Speaker:

I I had to I got to have an experience this year that I'm gonna

Speaker:

explain to anyone that might have found the themselves in my shoes, and this is

Speaker:

not strictly business related. It was really interesting. I

Speaker:

one of my really good friends, one of her really good

Speaker:

friends, has become a friend of mine. And we went to go

Speaker:

visit the friend of the friend for a

Speaker:

concert in, I think, late August or September. And

Speaker:

it was just going to be the couple of us, the one friend's husband, really

Speaker:

comfortable with it, knew everyone that's gonna be there except the husband, and he was

Speaker:

a delight. But before the concert so we went to CrossFit in the morning. I

Speaker:

did CrossFit for the first time, which I actually loved because when I

Speaker:

used to know of CrossFit, it felt very, like, toxic hustle culture. You know?

Speaker:

And I have a a background lifting weights, being a varsity athlete, doing, you

Speaker:

know, things to take care of your body. And I I figured I'd

Speaker:

go try, and I did. And it was really supportive, fantastic, lots of

Speaker:

modifications, and enjoyed it. So connected with a

Speaker:

few people in CrossFit that day. And then that evening before the concert, this friend

Speaker:

of our friend had invited 10 or 15 people over. And

Speaker:

for anyone that knows me, I have a closet in my, like,

Speaker:

bathroom that Emily and our team has deemed the Harry Potter

Speaker:

closet. It's kind of under our stairs, but it's carpeted. It's

Speaker:

dark. It's quiet. And when I get overstimulated when we host people in our

Speaker:

house, I go hang out in there, and I will send Marco Polo's

Speaker:

normally to Emily, and just take a little time out, just a

Speaker:

sensory chill. And so,

Speaker:

normally, a situation like this would have absolutely sent me for the equivalent of,

Speaker:

you know, my Harry Potter Hubbard. And instead,

Speaker:

I had the really lovely experience of feeling like

Speaker:

I had known everyone that showed up for years. I have never been

Speaker:

so seamlessly integrated into an extended friend group in

Speaker:

my entire life. I think I have done that for a lot of people over

Speaker:

the years. We used to host. My husband's super extroverted, and our

Speaker:

house was the gathering spot for years. And getting to experience

Speaker:

the flip side of that and being able to connect with new people

Speaker:

was just the highlight of my

Speaker:

year, I think. It was so much fun to show up in a space that

Speaker:

would normally bring me some anxiety or

Speaker:

just exhaust me, and I was. I was tired by the time we were done.

Speaker:

And I went to bed, I think, at, you know, midnight that night after the

Speaker:

concert. But I wish that for anyone listening, I

Speaker:

wish that you have connection, authentic,

Speaker:

compassionate connection, both this year and in the

Speaker:

next. Because for me, that has been

Speaker:

one of my favorite things and something that I am leaning

Speaker:

into and seeking out more of in 2025 and beyond. And

Speaker:

we'll see what wave, shape, or form that takes.

Speaker:

One of the other really exciting things in 2025 is I have a couple

Speaker:

of different freebie options that we're gonna be putting out that are brand

Speaker:

new, super valuable. I'm really excited about them.

Speaker:

Some really small little mini offers, and then, of course, if you're

Speaker:

listening, it's tax time. It's bookkeeping time.

Speaker:

If you have been debating, getting going with your bookkeeping and outsourcing

Speaker:

it, now is the time to have the conversation to reach out.

Speaker:

And there's nothing wrong with reaching out and saying, I don't know if I can

Speaker:

afford this. I don't know what I should be doing. I don't know what's normal

Speaker:

or what makes sense. That's for us to show up and say, hey,

Speaker:

businesses that are doing what you're doing, this is what we normally see, but here

Speaker:

are a couple of other options. What feels good? And it maybe that you

Speaker:

continue to DIY. And maybe that you outsource taxes now,

Speaker:

and a year from now you outsource bookkeeping. Those are all

Speaker:

completely valid options for you. And it may just be that you have

Speaker:

some education around what guidelines or bumper lanes you have in the

Speaker:

future. And I will say I'm gonna close this out

Speaker:

with. The last thing that I wanna talk about is if you

Speaker:

are a business owner and you are making or expecting to make

Speaker:

$60,000 or more in profit this year. And when I say profit, I

Speaker:

mean, income minus expenses, that equals your

Speaker:

profit. Your expenses do not include what you pay yourself. They do not include your

Speaker:

quarterly estimated taxes, and they do not include any individual taxes that

Speaker:

you pay. That's all included within your profit. If you're gonna hit

Speaker:

$60,000 or more, or you think you're going to this next year, I

Speaker:

would absolutely encourage you to reach out whether it's to us or another accounting firm,

Speaker:

and just touch base about an a selection. Because

Speaker:

that is something that, especially this time of year, is really important to be

Speaker:

discussing. Because if you are making more than that, there's a very good chance that

Speaker:

you are overpaying and potentially dramatically overpaying in

Speaker:

taxes. And that is heartbreaking for

Speaker:

me to come across during tax season or after

Speaker:

tax season and not be able to have done anything about it. So I do

Speaker:

encourage you, whether it's us, whether it's someone else, whether it's your, you know, local

Speaker:

accountant, reach out, have that discussion if you are there.

Speaker:

And to everyone else, I hope that you have an

Speaker:

absolutely magical end to your 2024

Speaker:

and the most delightful,

Speaker:

aligned, and exciting 2025 that you

Speaker:

can. And we'll be here to support you and chat about what comes up

Speaker:

along the way. That's a wrap for this episode of

Speaker:

the Wealth Witches podcast. I hope our magical money talks have left you
