Even in pain, even in struggle, even in really not knowing what the answers are for the next meal, for the next bill, for the next career move, there is joy. There is beauty.

So many of us feel this sense of leadership is a calling. Literally, we're here, because so many people have sacrificed for us to be here.

One of the best things about the LGBTQ space is that it isn't pre-formed, it's still in formation. There's a lot of invention that is, even today, happening and possible.

There's a win-win all around in a society in which we have more justice, and I think that the thing that gets us there is actually seeing it or being able to describe it to one another.

I want leaders of racial justice organizations to have all of the resources at their fingertips to be able to not only execute, but to be able to dream.

I think that for me, I'm also more of a provocateur. It's taken me a while, but I have learned to embrace being kind of the different one, the odd one out. I don't mind being different, when it's used for a purpose.

No, I think there's something to be said about how do you live into that identity in a way that's powerful and meaningful.

If I'm stagnant or not thinking about the future, or not trying to critically understand or examine this institution or these structures of philanthropy, then I'm going to be caught flatfooted.

I'm just constantly like, y'all couldn't find one Black person to talk to in that conversation? Y'all realize that Black folks are on this earth too, right?
