Lovella:

Quick soccer question to start us off. How long is a professional soccer game without stoppage time?

Steve:

Well, it's 90 minutes. 45 minute halves. 90 minutes.

Steve:

That's correct.

Steve:

Yay!

Steve:

Welcome to Kids vs. Parents, the family trivia battle where the backseat takes on the front seat.

Steve:

I'm Steve.

Lovella:

And I'm Lovella.

Lovella:

Today, we're playing soccer trivia with a bit of World Cup trivia thrown in.

Lovella:

This episode was suggested by efranco26 on Spotify.

Steve:

Thanks, efranco.

Steve:

We're getting lots of comments on Spotify.

Lovella:

We are.

Lovella:

We are.

Steve:

We love our comments.

Lovella:

And we're getting to all those episodes you guys have requested.

Steve:

We're trying to get to all of them.

Lovella:

We're trying to get there.

Steve:

That's right.

Steve:

And so this week, the World Cup kicks off.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Steve:

Globally, around the world.

Steve:

It's being played here in the US.

Steve:

So we thought we would do a soccer episode to coincide with the World Cup.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Hopefully, you're all very excited about your country playing in the World Cup, if they're in it.

Steve:

And we're excited about the USA and Australia being in the World Cup.

Steve:

We are.

Steve:

We're excited to watch them play.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

The prize today, we normally do a prize for the winner.

Steve:

But today we're going to do a punishment for the loser.

Steve:

And to go in with the soccer theme, the loser of today's episode cannot use their hands.

Lovella:

What?

Steve:

For the next five minutes.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

So you've got to go five minutes without using your hands.

Steve:

So if you're in your car, I don't know how you're going to get out of the car.

Steve:

It's going to be tricky.

Lovella:

What if you're a parent driving?

Steve:

Well, maybe.

Lovella:

And you're still on your way to school.

Steve:

Maybe the five minutes starts when you get out of the car.

Steve:

Safety first.

Steve:

We want to be able to use your hands for driving.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Who goes first today, Lovella?

Lovella:

How about the kids?

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Should we do a coin toss to figure out who goes first today, Lovella?

Steve:

No, Dad.

Lovella:

No.

Steve:

Heads or tails?

Steve:

No.

Steve:

Heads.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

Who goes first, Lovella?

Steve:

Kids.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

All right, kids.

Steve:

Get your boots on.

Steve:

Shin pads in.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

What does a yellow card mean in soccer?

Lovella:

Oh, a yellow card.

Steve:

Has anybody on your team ever received a yellow card, Lovella?

Lovella:

Well, maybe once.

Steve:

Okay, yeah.

Lovella:

But in my league, we only just started using them just this last season.

Steve:

Okay.

Lovella:

Okay, so I know like a red card is like, yeah, you got to sit out or something or you can't

Lovella:

play the rest of the game, something like that.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

A yellow card, it's like, it's a warning, I think.

Lovella:

A warning?

Steve:

Is that your answer?

Lovella:

Yeah.

Steve:

You are correct.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

It is a warning.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

That's right.

Steve:

Do you know how many yellow cards until you get sent off?

Steve:

Did I say two?

Steve:

That's correct.

Steve:

If you get two yellow cards, it equals a red.

Lovella:

Yeah, because that kind of makes sense.

Steve:

And now you're off.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

Like three.

Lovella:

You've got three chances.

Steve:

That's right.

Lovella:

Or two chances and then you're off.

Steve:

I promise you, you will see yellow cards and red cards all throughout the World Cup.

Steve:

It can get pretty colorful.

Steve:

Yeah, colorful.

Lovella:

Okay.

Lovella:

Painted with yellow and red.

Steve:

Yeah, look out for those yellow cards and red cards in soccer.

Steve:

There'll be some in the World Cup for sure.

Steve:

All right, well done.

Steve:

One on the board.

Steve:

First one on the board.

Steve:

First goal.

Steve:

Well done.

Lovella:

Oh, thank you.

Steve:

Let's see if you can score again.

Lovella:

I did a nice, clean corner kick.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

Question number two.

Steve:

What is the job of the striker?

Lovella:

What is the job of the striker?

Lovella:

I should know this because I literally have played striker before.

Steve:

Where were you in the field?

Lovella:

But the thing, like, is it where am I in the field?

Steve:

What is the job of the striker?

Steve:

It's the main job of the striker.

Lovella:

They're meant to be a striker because they're meant to be trying to score.

Steve:

Right.

Lovella:

They're a striker.

Steve:

Right.

Lovella:

They're meant to…

Steve:

So, is that their job?

Lovella:

I guess.

Steve:

You are correct.

Lovella:

Okay.

Lovella:

I don't play a striker that often.

Steve:

Technically speaking, everybody's job is to score a goal.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

But, you know, the defenders, they're usually not going to get a chance to score a goal.

Steve:

Their job is to stop other people from scoring goals.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Steve:

Right?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

So, the job of the striker is…

Lovella:

To score goals.

Steve:

To score goals.

Steve:

That's right.

Steve:

To score goals.

Steve:

That is the job of the striker.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

Two on the board.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

Question number three.

Steve:

I'm going to give you a World Cup kind of question now, okay?

Steve:

Ooh, okay.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

Kind of nervous.

Steve:

What country is Lionel Messi from?

Steve:

Do you know who that player is?

Lovella:

Yes, of course.

Lovella:

He's like a crazy, amazing player.

Steve:

He's like so popular.

Steve:

He is.

Steve:

So what country does he play for in the World Cup?

Lovella:

I don't know what country, but I know he plays like for the Miami team, but I don't know what country.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

I mean, I kind of want to say US, but I don't think that's right.

Steve:

That's okay.

Lovella:

Oh, man.

Lovella:

I'm going to guess a random country.

Steve:

Okay.

Lovella:

But there's too many.

Steve:

There is lots of.

Lovella:

There's too many.

Steve:

Soccer is very big in this country, which doesn't really help you because soccer is actually big in quite a lot of countries.

Steve:

Any idea?

Steve:

You want to have a guess?

Steve:

Well.

Steve:

A country that loves their soccer or their football.

Lovella:

I'm guessing it's like somewhere in like South America maybe.

Steve:

You are correct.

Steve:

It is somewhere in South America.

Steve:

Yep.

Steve:

You're in the right place.

Steve:

Give me a country in South America.

Lovella:

Yes.

Lovella:

I'm going to guess Brazil.

Lovella:

I don't know.

Steve:

It's a good guess.

Steve:

Incorrect.

Lovella:

Dang it.

Lovella:

What was it?

Steve:

Argentina.

Lovella:

Oh, Argentina.

Lovella:

It's from Argentina.

Steve:

It's like a light blue-ish kind of uniform.

Lovella:

I have seen him wearing that one.

Lovella:

Yeah, I see a bunch of people wearing messy jerseys

Lovella:

and they're light blue or pink.

Steve:

That's right.

Steve:

Yes, pink is Miami.

Steve:

Light blue is Argentina.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Yeah, very good.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Last question.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

I'm going to stick with World Cup.

Steve:

Is that okay?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Because we're in the heat of World Cup at the moment.

Steve:

So I love it.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

This question's a multiple choice, Lovella.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Which of these best describes the FIFA World Cup trophy?

Steve:

So the look of the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

A, a soccer ball coming out of a cloud.

Steve:

B, a player kicking a soccer ball.

Steve:

Or C, two people holding up the planet Earth.

Lovella:

oh my gosh what huh oh man this is hard have you seen the world cup trophy before i don't i've

Lovella:

never i don't think i've ever watched the world cup i'm like i am in like i play soccer and

Lovella:

everything but i'm not like into it crazy enough to actually watch it all the time yeah and know

Lovella:

everything about it.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

You're going to be having

Steve:

an educated guess then here.

Steve:

You're just going to be having

Steve:

a random guess.

Steve:

Okay.

Lovella:

So there's a soccer ball

Lovella:

coming out of the cloud.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

A player kicking a soccer ball

Lovella:

and then two people

Lovella:

holding up the earth.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

A globe kind of thing.

Steve:

Two people holding up a globe.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

This is the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Steve:

So there's only one of them

Steve:

in existence.

Steve:

And if you win it,

Steve:

you know,

Steve:

you get to,

Steve:

I think it gets displayed

Steve:

in your country possibly

Steve:

until the next one

Steve:

in four years

Steve:

or possibly it stays somewhere.

Steve:

Oh, that's cool.

Steve:

I actually don't know about that

Steve:

but there's only one of them.

Steve:

It's made of like gold.

Lovella:

Whoa.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

Wait, that's really cool.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

Okay.

Lovella:

I'm going to look at what it actually is after this.

Steve:

You've probably seen it on the TV.

Steve:

If you watch a game, you probably see it in some capacity.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

As an icon or an image somewhere.

Lovella:

Okay.

Lovella:

A soccer ball coming out of a cloud kind of doesn't really make sense to me.

Lovella:

Okay.

Lovella:

But I could see it as it being a trophy.

Lovella:

But I don't understand why it's a cloud.

Lovella:

So I don't think it's going to be the soccer ball coming out of the cloud.

Lovella:

The person kicking a soccer ball sounds like…

Steve:

Like a trophy?

Lovella:

Yeah.

Lovella:

But then again, the next one is like two people holding up a globe.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

And this is the World Cup.

Steve:

Right.

Lovella:

So like…

Lovella:

I don't know.

Steve:

So A, B, or C.

Steve:

You're saying…

Lovella:

It's either B or C.

Steve:

You think it's B or C.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

So a player kicking a soccer ball or two people holding up…

Steve:

I don't know though.

Lovella:

I could be wrong.

Steve:

…the earth.

Steve:

You could be wrong.

Steve:

You could also be right.

Steve:

I don't know.

Lovella:

Man, I don't know.

Lovella:

I think I'm just going to go with the globe one.

Lovella:

So, see.

Steve:

So, two people holding up the earth?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

You are correct.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Oh, my goodness.

Steve:

Thank goodness.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Let me quickly Google it and show you what it looks like now, Lovella,

Steve:

so you can see what it looks like.

Steve:

So, this is the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Steve:

You see it?

Lovella:

I think I have seen that.

Lovella:

It just…

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

But can you see how I was trying to trick you with a soccer ball coming out of the clouds,

Steve:

too?

Steve:

Because it could kind of look like that if you weren't…

Steve:

You didn't look at it closely?

Steve:

You could see that it kind of could look like a soccer ball coming out of clouds?

Lovella:

Yeah, or a soccer ball coming out of like a tornado.

Steve:

Oh, okay.

Lovella:

That's what I see.

Lovella:

And it's kind of weird because it looks like the people are like,

Lovella:

they're not actual like people statues, but they're like…

Steve:

Like representations of people almost.

Steve:

Representations.

Lovella:

They're like in this like weird…

Steve:

Twisty.

Lovella:

Twisty thing.

Steve:

Right.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Lovella:

It looks like people, like just outlines of people in a tornado

Lovella:

and there's the world coming out of it.

Steve:

I like that description.

Steve:

Thank you.

Steve:

That's good.

Steve:

All right, that's halftime.

Steve:

You got three out of four.

Steve:

Yeah, that's really good.

Steve:

So you've got three goals.

Steve:

You've scored three goals.

Steve:

So I've got to try and beat that.

Steve:

Parents, we got to try and get three or four goals to equal or beat the kids on our team

Steve:

anyway.

Steve:

Go get yourself some oranges and we'll see you back here for the next half.

Lovella:

All righty.

Lovella:

Parents, are you ready to start playing?

Steve:

Oh, I'm ready.

Steve:

Here we go.

Lovella:

All right.

Lovella:

Question number one.

Lovella:

How many players are on the soccer field during a match?

Steve:

How many players in total?

Lovella:

In total.

Steve:

In total.

Lovella:

In total.

Steve:

Okay, in total.

Lovella:

So that's including like the goalie.

Steve:

Yes, but it's not including the referee, right?

Steve:

Because he's not a player.

Lovella:

No, no, no, no.

Steve:

How many players?

Lovella:

Players.

Steve:

Okay, so there are, in soccer, there are 11, I believe.

Steve:

Is it 11?

Steve:

No, yeah, there's 11.

Steve:

There is 11 on a side, including the goal.

Steve:

You go 10 out.

Steve:

Yes, 11.

Steve:

So 22 is my answer.

Lovella:

You are correct.

Lovella:

Yes.

Steve:

Good.

Lovella:

All right, question number two.

Lovella:

Which player has won the most World Cup trophies?

Steve:

Oh, boy.

Steve:

Which player has won the most World Cup trophies?

Steve:

Won the most.

Steve:

Um, and the most that is going to be, um, I think this is, um, what's his name?

Steve:

I think this is Pele, who's from Brazil, I think.

Steve:

I believe Brazil have won the most trophies.

Lovella:

Is that your answer?

Lovella:

Is that your guess?

Steve:

So I'm going to say Pele.

Steve:

That is my guess.

Lovella:

You're correct.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Nice.

Lovella:

All right.

Steve:

Love it.

Lovella:

All right.

Lovella:

Question number three.

Lovella:

How many World Cup tournaments has Cristiano Ronaldo played in, including 2026?

Steve:

Um, okay.

Steve:

Wow.

Steve:

Okay, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Steve:

Okay, World Cups every four years.

Steve:

How long has he been playing?

Steve:

Four.

Steve:

So he's in 2026.

Steve:

So two, definitely two, definitely three.

Steve:

Has he done four?

Steve:

Has he done four?

Steve:

I'm going to say, it's a long time.

Steve:

I'm going to say three.

Steve:

He's only done three.

Lovella:

The correct answer was six.

Steve:

What?

Lovella:

I know.

Steve:

Six?

Steve:

No way.

Steve:

That's a lot.

Steve:

He's got to be the most.

Lovella:

Is he the most?

Lovella:

Crazy.

Lovella:

He played in 2006, 2010.

Lovella:

So that was his first one.

Lovella:

2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Wow.

Steve:

I know.

Steve:

Well done, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Steve:

You've played a lot of World Cups.

Steve:

Okay?

Lovella:

I know.

Steve:

Crazy.

Lovella:

All right.

Lovella:

Last question.

Lovella:

What country is famous for the team nickname, the Three Lions?

Steve:

Oh, okay.

Steve:

The Three Lions.

Steve:

Who has lions in there?

Steve:

I wonder if that's, is that referring to the logo?

Steve:

Oh, that could be, is that England?

Steve:

Does England have lions in their logo?

Steve:

Who knows?

Steve:

Well, you know the answer.

Steve:

Ah, the three lions.

Steve:

Ah, or is it Scotland?

Steve:

Does Scotland have lions?

Steve:

No, I feel like England, they like their lions.

Steve:

They put lions everywhere.

Steve:

Don't they?

Steve:

I feel like they put lions everywhere.

Steve:

I think they're gonna

Lovella:

I don't know

Steve:

I feel like

Steve:

England like their lions

Steve:

I'm gonna say England

Lovella:

you are

Lovella:

correct

Steve:

I am

Steve:

yes

Lovella:

good job

Steve:

thank you

Lovella:

so

Steve:

why are they called the

Steve:

why are they called the three lions

Steve:

is it because of their logo

Lovella:

yes

Lovella:

it's because their logo

Lovella:

they've got like three

Lovella:

it looks like to me

Lovella:

three swimming lions

Steve:

three swimming lions

Lovella:

yeah

Steve:

okay

Steve:

let me look it up

Lovella:

come on

Lovella:

look at it

Lovella:

and you're like

Lovella:

they look like they're swimming

Steve:

oh you're right

Steve:

it does

Steve:

angry swimming lions.

Steve:

They look like they're angry.

Lovella:

I'm going to swim.

Steve:

Two angry swimming lions.

Lovella:

But yes.

Steve:

I love it.

Steve:

Okay, so I…

Lovella:

Three out of four.

Lovella:

Me three out of four.

Steve:

We're a draw.

Lovella:

It's a tie.

Steve:

It's a draw.

Steve:

We've got to go to penalty shootouts.

Lovella:

Penalty shootouts?

Steve:

Penalty shootouts.

Steve:

This is so exciting.

Lovella:

I've never gotten to do these before.

Steve:

You haven't?

Steve:

No.

Lovella:

Maybe once.

Steve:

So our penalty shootouts is called a tiebreaker round.

Lovella:

Yes.

Steve:

So we're going to have one question.

Steve:

And the winner of this wins the whole game.

Steve:

First to answer, wins the trophy.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Wins the World Cup.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

One question.

Steve:

I have the question ready.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

Scrolling down my page.

Steve:

I don't know the answer to this.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Are you ready?

Steve:

I am.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Bonus or tiebreaker question.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

What is the name of the award for the top goal scorer at the World Cup?

Lovella:

buzz i don't know you don't know i don't really know that much about the world cup i i know this

Steve:

one okay the top goal scorer is the award is called the golden boot oh that's so fancy yeah

Steve:

yeah it's called the golden i actually think they get a golden boot trophy i think they get like it's

Steve:

a clip it's a soccer boot it's all gold i love that like real gold i don't know i'm sure someone

Steve:

hasn't just spray painted it gold. I'm sure it's pretty fancy. It's probably made of real gold.

Steve:
