There’s something I say nearly every episode. I say it because I believe it. But the other day, I was listening to a different podcast and someone said - “I know greatness is coming your way!”
At first, I really appreciated that. He’s really supporting and encouraging people. Heck yeah, I love that! But then I thought about it a bit more … and it bothered me.
It bothered me because he doesn’t know what’s coming your way. He doesn’t know me. He doesn’t know you. He doesn’t know what life’s going to bring us.
And then I thought about what I say nearly every episode. Am I doing the same thing? Am I just offering empty, hyped up motivation? Am I lying to you??
After thinking through things, I don’t believe so. And I want to explain why right here and right now.

Welcome to the Real Life Weight Loss Podcast, where we cut through the confusion and get down to the truth about what really works for real people.
Speaker A:When it comes to losing weight, having incredible health, and a body that you love, we believe that losing weight is really about gaining life, doing things you never thought you could, having renewed confidence, and enjoying your body more than ever.
Speaker A:I'm your host, Corey Little.
Speaker A:Now let's get to it.
Speaker A:Hello, my friend.
Speaker A:Welcome back.
Speaker A:This is episode number 374.
Speaker A:And today we're going to answer the question, have I been lying to you for years and years and years?
Speaker A:I hope not, because, man, that wouldn't be good for me or for you.
Speaker A:So we'll get into that question.
Speaker A:Today's entire episode was inspired by a different podcast episode that I was listening to from someone else and something was said and it really made me think and I was like.
Speaker A:And I had to dig into what I've been telling you.
Speaker A:And so we'll answer this question of that's related to my honesty.
Speaker A:Have I been lying to you all these years?
Speaker A:But before we get started, may I ask for a small Christmas gift?
Speaker A:Would you be willing to take 60 seconds to rate and review this podcast if you've never done it before?
Speaker A:Oh my gosh, I would be absolutely honored.
Speaker A:Or if you maybe rated it in the past, I'm pretty sure you can actually do it again.
Speaker A:Apple Podcasts will allow you to rate and write a review.
Speaker A:You can write whatever you'd like to about the podcast.
Speaker A:Spotify only allows you to rate it to click between, you know, I guess one and five stars.
Speaker A:Hopefully not one star.
Speaker A:Hopefully it's a little better than that.
Speaker A:But you can't write a review on Spotify, so it's even quicker than on Apple podcast.
Speaker A:Again, I would be honored if you would take the time to do this.
Speaker A:I know you're busy.
Speaker A:I know it's just a super busy time of the year.
Speaker A:It would mean the world to me and I just want to say thank you in advance.
Speaker A:Now, with all of that being said, let's get into today's episode.
Speaker A:So what is it that I have been lying to you about for years and years?
Speaker A:Well, after some thought, I don't really think it's a lie.
Speaker A:But I'll let you be the judge.
Speaker A:Let me explain and then you can come to your own conclusions.
Speaker A:At the end of nearly every episode, I always say, I know you can do it, even if you don't believe in yourself.
Speaker A:That's okay.
Speaker A:You can borrow my belief.
Speaker A:Some people have even contacted me, written an email, or shot me a message.
Speaker A:And they say that it's like their favorite part of every.
Speaker A:Every episode.
Speaker A:And that's awesome.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A:But recently, I felt really challenged about that part of the episode, about what I say at the end of nearly every episode.
Speaker A:I heard a guy on a different podcast say, I know greatness is coming your way.
Speaker A:I know it.
Speaker A:And at first I was like, heck, yeah.
Speaker A:I really appreciated it.
Speaker A:And I was like, oh, my gosh, I love that he's really, you know, being supportive and encouraging people.
Speaker A:But then I thought about it a little bit more, and it bothered me.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker A:Because, well, he doesn't know what's coming your way.
Speaker A:He doesn't know me.
Speaker A:He doesn't know you.
Speaker A:He doesn't know what life's going to bring us.
Speaker A:And then I thought about what I say every episode, and I was like, crap, am I doing the same thing?
Speaker A:Am I just blowing sunshine up people's skirts?
Speaker A:Like, am I just throwing out empty, hypey motivation?
Speaker A:Because that was never my intention, But I had to really take a hard look, have a hard think on it, and really just ponder it.
Speaker A:And after some thinking, no, I don't believe that's the case at all.
Speaker A:I feel like what I say is different, and I want to explain why right here and right now.
Speaker A:And this is not just me, like, putting this out there to make myself feel better.
Speaker A:I think there's a huge teaching point that you can take home with you.
Speaker A:I think there's something that could.
Speaker A:I mean, we're in early December right now.
Speaker A:A lot of you will be motivated to, you know, press forward and lose a bunch of weight in the new year, set some New Year's resolutions.
Speaker A:I believe what I share in this episode could be an unbelievably powerful for you heading into the new year.
Speaker A:So why do I feel like what I say is different?
Speaker A:Here's the thing.
Speaker A:I don't know what's headed your way.
Speaker A:I don't know what life's bringing you.
Speaker A:I don't know if you will be successful or not.
Speaker A:I don't know if you'll lose weight.
Speaker A:And right here is a perfect place for the But Corey section of the podcast.
Speaker A:We haven't had one of those in a while.
Speaker A:But Corey, dude, hold on.
Speaker A:You always tell me that you know I can do it.
Speaker A:Yes, exactly.
Speaker A:I know you can do it.
Speaker A:But full, brutal honesty.
Speaker A:I don't know if you will.
Speaker A:And that's not because I doubt you.
Speaker A:It's just true.
Speaker A:I Don't know you.
Speaker A:I don't know if you'll do it.
Speaker A:There's a gigantic difference between can and will.
Speaker A:Can means you have the ability and potential to be successful.
Speaker A:Will means you're doing it.
Speaker A:Can communicates possibility.
Speaker A:Will communicates certainty.
Speaker A:I would love to communicate certainty, yes, I would love it, but I can't.
Speaker A:It would just be a lie.
Speaker A:I can't speak on your life with certainty.
Speaker A:It's your life, it's not mine.
Speaker A:The definition of will is expressing inevitable events.
Speaker A:Wow.
Speaker A:Inevitable.
Speaker A:Like it is happening.
Speaker A:So if I say you will be successful, I know it well, that's just disingenuous.
Speaker A:It's just not true.
Speaker A:It's a lie.
Speaker A:I don't know if you will or will not be successful, but here's what I do know.
Speaker A:You can.
Speaker A:So, yeah, absolutely, I believe you can be successful with weight loss and with your body.
Speaker A:I know you can do it, but I don't know if you will.
Speaker A:I don't know if you'll take action and if you'll take action consistently enough.
Speaker A:And that's the key, my friends.
Speaker A:Here's the truth.
Speaker A:Nothing changes if nothing changes.
Speaker A:And so someone can say on a podcast, I know great things are coming your way, and I know you're going to be successful, and I know you're going to achieve all your goals.
Speaker A:And that's.
Speaker A:That's great.
Speaker A:And that may make us feel really great in that moment, because we really want someone to believe in us.
Speaker A:And here's what I want you to know.
Speaker A:I believe in you.
Speaker A:I believe in the possibility and incredible potential that you have.
Speaker A:But I'm not going to sit here and tell you I know what's happening for you.
Speaker A:I have no idea.
Speaker A:Because here's the thing.
Speaker A:You know why?
Speaker A:And this should be one of the most empowering things ever.
Speaker A:Here's why.
Speaker A:I don't know what's coming.
Speaker A:Because it's all in your hands.
Speaker A:Isn't that incredible?
Speaker A:Isn't that powerful?
Speaker A:It's all in your hands.
Speaker A:It's all within your power.
Speaker A:It's all your choice what you do or don't do, what you eat or don't eat, if you hire a trainer or if you join a gym or if you join a weight loss group or sign up for a weight loss program, or if you work with me or if you work with some other coach or if you go buy diet book or if you just keep going back to the same thing that you've done that hasn't worked for you in the past, whatever, all of these things, these are all your choices.
Speaker A:And so while it may seem discouraging at the surface or maybe overwhelming, please push.
Speaker A:Please let those.
Speaker A:Let those subside and realize, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker A:This is actually a beautiful thing because it means I have the power.
Speaker A:That's exactly what it means.
Speaker A:My friends, I don't know if you will.
Speaker A:I don't know if you'll take action, but I know you can.
Speaker A:If we want to be successful with anything in life, we have to take action.
Speaker A:We must take action.
Speaker A:We must make it happen.
Speaker A:So do I believe you can?
Speaker A:Heck, yeah.
Speaker A:Do I believe you will?
Speaker A:That's up to you.
Speaker A:I hope so.
Speaker A:But I can't control that, and I can't promise that.
Speaker A:And this is why whenever one of my clients transforms their life and their body in amazing ways, and then they start to thank me, oh, my gosh.
Speaker A:I'm absolutely just honored.
Speaker A:I'm just honored by their words.
Speaker A:But I always stop them.
Speaker A:I'm like, whoa, hold on.
Speaker A:You know what's coming.
Speaker A:And everybody in my coaching group, they know.
Speaker A:They're like, oh, boy.
Speaker A:I always say to them, no, no, no, no, hold on, wait.
Speaker A:I'm throwing all the credit right back to you.
Speaker A:You did it.
Speaker A:You took action.
Speaker A:You stayed connected.
Speaker A:You learned from your mess ups.
Speaker A:You kept going.
Speaker A:You stay consistent over time.
Speaker A:You checked in each and every week.
Speaker A:You showed up on coaching calls when you needed help, you refused to give up.
Speaker A:You did it.
Speaker A:You get all the credit.
Speaker A:We're just the coaches, the tour guides, if you will.
Speaker A:Like, we can coach and teach and support and be there for you like crazy, but we can't take you anywhere.
Speaker A:Like, think of a tour guide, right?
Speaker A:If you go to visit someplace and you hire a tour guide, you're hiring a tour guide to take you to certain places.
Speaker A:They can't take you anywhere that you don't want to go.
Speaker A:That's called kidnapping.
Speaker A:So the only way that I can force you to do something is if I kidnap you.
Speaker A:I'm not going to do that.
Speaker A:I like freedom.
Speaker A:I don't want to go to prison.
Speaker A:I don't want to do that.
Speaker A:That's kidnapping.
Speaker A:So like a tour guide.
Speaker A:I'm a tour guide, not a kidnapper.
Speaker A:I can't force you.
Speaker A:I can't take you anywhere that you're not willing to go.
Speaker A:You have to do it.
Speaker A:You have to choose to go there.
Speaker A:And this.
Speaker A:This kind of reminds me of a funny story.
Speaker A:My wife was walking her sister's dog one time, and the dog is a.
Speaker A:It's a mastiff breed.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:I've heard it pronounced two different ways.
Speaker A:It's either Cane Corso or cane Corso.
Speaker A:Anyways, it's a.
Speaker A:It's a large, very strong, very strong dog.
Speaker A:And it's really sweet and friendly.
Speaker A:As long as it knows you, I guess.
Speaker A:But my wife, who barely outweighs the dog, was taking the dog on a walk, and I guess the dog just decided it smelled something it liked and it just wanted to plop down somewhere and she couldn't get it to move.
Speaker A:She had the leash, the harness strapped around, like its chest area, and she had the other end of it.
Speaker A:And we were like, where's she at?
Speaker A:What's going on?
Speaker A:And so we.
Speaker A:We walked out to find her and we just started taking videos with our phone because it was hilarious.
Speaker A:She was stuck.
Speaker A:Like, she couldn't do anything.
Speaker A:She would pull and lean and tug and jerk and the dog wouldn't move.
Speaker A:Like, she could not go anywhere until the dog decided to move.
Speaker A:The point is, the dog had all the power and it was going to go when it wanted to, where it wanted to, how it wanted to.
Speaker A:And while she thought she was walking the dog, the dog was really walking her.
Speaker A:She couldn't move the dog.
Speaker A:And it's the same.
Speaker A:Look, I know this sounds terrible because you're the dog in this story.
Speaker A:I'm not saying you're a dog.
Speaker A:Okay, here.
Speaker A:But here's what I am saying.
Speaker A:I can't take you nor any other coach or any other trainer or any other weight loss program or weight loss book or app or anything.
Speaker A:None of them, none of us can take you anywhere you're not willing to go.
Speaker A:We can coach you and support you and teach you and help you develop strategies and help you overcome mental hurdles.
Speaker A:And that's what all the things that I try to do with people.
Speaker A:But ultimately, it's up to you, my friend.
Speaker A:It's up to you.
Speaker A:Of how will you put that into play in your life?
Speaker A:Will you put it into play?
Speaker A:How will you show up?
Speaker A:Will you show up for yourself consistently?
Speaker A:So as we wrap up today, I want to share a few things that in some ways might seem overly simplified or just cliche, but they're all 100% truth.
Speaker A:So let's do it.
Speaker A:Here we go.
Speaker A:Maybe some of these will hit home for you.
Speaker A:Your body and health is headed somewhere.
Speaker A:In my coaching group, we call this the default future.
Speaker A:You have a default future.
Speaker A:This.
Speaker A:This means it's a future, is a future you that is going to happen.
Speaker A:You're headed to a certain place in your life with your body and your health, you have a default future that you're headed toward, and you will arrive there.
Speaker A:Superman's not sweeping in to save you.
Speaker A:You will arrive there unless you change your trajectory.
Speaker A:In other words, wonderful, magical things don't normally just happen out of the blue.
Speaker A:If you want something different, you have to do something different.
Speaker A:As I said earlier, nothing changes.
Speaker A:If nothing changes, you're on a certain trajectory, you're headed somewhere.
Speaker A:And I don't say this to be discouraging.
Speaker A:I just say this to be really honest.
Speaker A:And if you want to change, you absolutely can change.
Speaker A:If you want to change your body, you can do it.
Speaker A:But here's the thing.
Speaker A:If you want to change your body, well, you must change your lifestyle, your food habits, your exercise habits, your exercise frequency and consistency, all of these things.
Speaker A:And very likely, if you've been listening to this podcast, you know this already.
Speaker A:You probably need some change between your ears as well.
Speaker A:That's okay.
Speaker A:But it's just important to understand that if you want to change your body, you must change in multiple ways.
Speaker A:And it doesn't have to be really fast or really severe and hard and strict, but over time, some things have to change.
Speaker A:If the outside of you changes, there's a good chance the inside of you probably changes as well.
Speaker A:That includes your brain and your habits, the way you think and the way you act.
Speaker A:And if you just keep doing what you've been doing, well, you're gonna keep getting what you've already got.
Speaker A:So is it doable?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Heck, yeah, man.
Speaker A:Can you do it?
Speaker A:Abso freaking lutely.
Speaker A:You can do it.
Speaker A:And here's why I say that.
Speaker A:Because I've seen so many people, I've coached so many people through the years who thought they couldn't, but they just said, you know what?
Speaker A:I'm just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Speaker A:I'm just going to keep taking steps, and if I mess up, I'm just not going to quit.
Speaker A:I'm just going to keep going.
Speaker A:And then they do it, and they're like, wow, I never thought I'd be here.
Speaker A:And sometimes it even takes a little refresher, a moment to go, hey, think about where you were six months ago.
Speaker A:Think about where you were five months ago.
Speaker A:Think about where you were a year ago.
Speaker A:Oh, my gosh.
Speaker A:Wow.
Speaker A:Your life is radically different.
Speaker A:So, my friends, is it doable?
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Can you do it?
Speaker A:Heck, yeah.
Speaker A:Will you do it?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:The ball is in your court.
Speaker A:I hope that this has been helpful.
Speaker A:I hope you'll share it with someone and maybe the two or three of you will discuss it.
Speaker A:That's just the best way to get the most out of a teaching like this or podcast episode.
Speaker A:Anything that you read or hear.
Speaker A:And I hope, if you haven't already, that Maybe you'll take 60 seconds to give me a little Christmas gift to rate this podcast on either Spotify or Apple.
Speaker A:And then, last but not least, I'm going to keep saying it because I believe it and it's true.
Speaker A:I hope you always remember and you never forget that there's so much more to you than a number.
Speaker A:So don't let the scales get up in your head and dictate your emotions for the day or dominate your headspace.
Speaker A:No, there's more to you than that.
Speaker A:And yes, you can do it.
Speaker A:Even if you've tried and failed in the past, your past doesn't determine your future.
Speaker A:Even if you've tried and failed, it's okay.
Speaker A:Your future can be different.
Speaker A:You absolutely can do it.
Speaker A:Will you do it?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:But I do know this.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:And I believe that you can.
Speaker A:And you can borrow my belief if you need to.
Speaker A:You keep coming back.
Speaker A:I'll keep doing my best to put out episodes that are helpful and that move you in the direction of more belief.
Speaker A:Okay, my friends.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Take care of yourself.
Speaker A:I'm so honored you spent some time with me today.
Speaker A:God bless.
Speaker A:Bye bye.
