Shownotes

What if the relationship that needs the most TLC isn’t with someone else, but with yourself? This week, we dive into the often overlooked but super important world of self-care, especially for us singles who might not have someone checking in on us. We’re breaking down self-care into bite-sized pieces, covering everything from physical wellness—like getting those Z’s and eating right—to the emotional side, where we discuss the power of journaling and just letting those tears flow when you need to. We even touch on mental stimulation and social connections because, let’s face it, we all need our tribe! So grab your favorite drink, settle in, and let’s chat about how we can level up our self-care game, one small step at a time.

Speaker A:

What if the relationship that's needed your attention most has been the one you have with yourself?

Speaker A:

Hi, welcome back to All About Being Single.

Speaker A:

Or welcome if you're new here.

Speaker A:

I'm Violeta, your host.

Speaker A:

Let's get started.

Speaker A:

Self care is often talked about as if it's just bubble baths and face masks, but it's really much broader than that and so necessary especially for us singles as we likely have no one else truly making sure that we are good.

Speaker A:

Even more so as we get into our late twenties and our thirties and just so many of like the people that we thought were like our people have their own main priorities like kids or partners and we just don't have that.

Speaker A:

And so I do believe that a well rounded self care practice usually includes several areas of life.

Speaker A:

And so we're going to talk about a few of them today.

Speaker A:

So for example, physical self care, so just taking care of your body so it can function well.

Speaker A:

So it could be getting enough sleep.

Speaker A:

And I think there's more studies now of women needing like 10 hours of sleep, eating nutritious and nourishing foods and drinking enough water and exercising or just moving your body in some kind of a way and attending medical and dental appointments and just resting when you're tired.

Speaker A:

And then there's emotional self care.

Speaker A:

So that's supporting your emotional well being and just processing your feelings.

Speaker A:

So it could be journaling and that's something I can always get better at.

Speaker A:

Or just talking with a trusted friend or going to therapy or just crying when you need to.

Speaker A:

And you know, I've been crying a lot since I'm trying to remedy this house and, and it's been a pain trying to finish the last project.

Speaker A:

Practicing self compassion and identifying and expressing just emotions in general.

Speaker A:

And there's your mental self care which is a little different, but just keeping your mind healthy and engaged.

Speaker A:

So just reading, learning a new skill, solving puzzles, limiting doom scrolling as much as possible.

Speaker A:

And I know most of us are going to be on our phones at some point during the day, but just trying to limit that as much as possible and just taking breaks from overstimulation and practicing mindfulness.

Speaker A:

And then there's the social self care.

Speaker A:

So just maintaining meaningful relationships and healthy connections.

Speaker A:

So spending time with people that truly allow you to be who you are and just spending time with supportive people but also setting boundaries even with those people could be joining a community or a group of some sort.

Speaker A:

It could be going to a social singles mixer, it could be just making time for fun and a connection any kind of way that you can.

Speaker A:

And I believe there's also such a thing as a practical self care, which is just like reducing stress by managing just those everyday responsibilities or kind of also going along with like financial self care, just budgeting and meal planning and meal prepping so you're not spending, you know, and having to like cook and clean and do all of that when you're too exhausted during the week after work and just cleaning your space and organizing paperwork and putting stuff into where it needs to go and you know, not having clutter around you and scheduling appointments and just creating routines.

Speaker A:

And I truly do believe that often the most effective self care isn't the most relaxing thing.

Speaker A:

It's the thing that you genuinely just need in that moment.

Speaker A:

So sometimes that's a walk, sometimes it's finally folding that laundry and putting it away, sometimes putting other things aside while you focus your time and energy and finishing house remodel project so it's finally off your to do list and no longer an open tab in your mind.

Speaker A:

Ask me how I know our glow up for this week is really just pick one area of self care to focus on anything that I just mentioned.

Speaker A:

Or even, you know, there's other areas of self care so it doesn't have to be anything that I just mentioned.

Speaker A:

And then just write down one simple action that you can take in that area this week.

Speaker A:

Or if you're feeling ambitious, write down one small action for every category that we discussed and challenge yourself to complete them over the next seven days.

Speaker A:

I'm saying this to you as much as I am saying it to myself.

Speaker A:

Even if we're late or right on time.

Speaker A:

Thanks so much for listening.

Speaker A:

I will talk to you next Tuesday.

Speaker A:

Sam.
