The day following the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is always that of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And this is the very point of that memorial: to lead us to better following him, imitating and obeying and above all loving the Heart of Christ. We don’t understand God unless we can love him. This is what the heart of the Blessed Virgin does. In contemplating her heart we see how much she loved the Lord: pierced to the core, a heart broken in seeing his brokenness - and yet still ever-vibrant in confident trust and assured love. This is the immaculate heart of Mary. This is what our hearts are called to be too: truly love - of the Lord.
