Speaker:

The essence of training is to allow error without consequence.”

Speaker:

These are Orson Scott Card's words in his famous novel Ender's Game.

And he has a point:

the great thing about training is the safe environment.

And he has a point:

It's like taking the risk, but without the actual risk.

And he has a point:

You can try out ideas and approaches that you would never have tried out for real.

And he has a point:

Or it can lead you to find yet another path that does work, but

And he has a point:

would have been impossible to see without taking the risky route first.

And he has a point:

But the one thing that you won't get in training is tension.

And he has a point:

The tension of that it matters now.

And he has a point:

The tension that this is the moment and you absolutely have to give it your all.

And he has a point:

Which might be way beyond everything that you did in training, simply

And he has a point:

because in training, you didn't have to.

And he has a point:

And also, the tension that errors actually do have consequences at times.

And he has a point:

That is an experience that no amount of training can give you.

And he has a point:

From training, you can gather a vast range of experiences.

And he has a point:

You can get ever closer to the real thing.

And he has a point:

But eventually, you will have to go out there and face the consequences.

And he has a point:

It's better to be well-prepared when you do.

And he has a point:

But it's also essential that you don't hide from it.
