shout on the swings, the exhausting
2
:agains of cooking and laundry, and
the difficult agains of discipline.
3
:So much of what we do
as mothers is on repeat.
4
:So what if we woke up with clarity,
knowing which agains we were called
5
:to, and went to bed believing we
are faithful in what matters most?
6
:We believe God's Word is
the key to untangle from the
7
:confusion and overwhelm we feel.
8
:Let's look up together to embrace a
motherhood full of freedom and joy.
9
:Thanks for joining me for another
episode of the again, podcast.

:child's heart really entail.
18
:And this is going to give you
a fantastic taste of that.
19
:The second thing I want to
talk about today is Easter.
20
:I think something that is so discouraging
is when you see a fantastic idea for
21
:a tradition, but it's two days before
and you don't have time to prep.
22
:And you're like, oh man, if I would've
known about that a week ago, that would
23
:have absolutely been in our lineup.
24
:So I'm wanting to make sure
that I give you ample time.
25
:It's March 13th, you have until the week
of Easter and Easter is on March 31st.
26
:If you need a reminder, several
of these ideas you'll obviously
27
:want to do prior to Easter.
28
:But hopefully this is going to
give you plenty of time to get
29
:your ducks and your eggs in a row.
30
:For many of us with Easter being in March,
it will fall close to our spring breaks.
31
:And I hope that is an opportunity to make
it even more intentional in our homes
32
:and a more peaceful, joyful opportunity.
33
:Easter is a, my favorite holiday by far.
34
:I love it.
35
:All the warming weather, the pastel
colors, the Cadbury mini eggs.
36
:And of course the spiritual
implications, which humble me to my core.
37
:I even welcomed my first
born on good Friday.
38
:Boy did Jesus's suffering mean a
lot to me during that experience?
39
:I think Christmas is fantastic, but
there's usually so much going on.
40
:People often get so focused on the gifts.
41
:Easter.
42
:However is all about Christ.
43
:Sure.
44
:There may be some baskets of
goodies and some filled eggs, but
45
:I think the heart of the holiday
is easier to keep on the forefront.
46
:It's been so fun for me to celebrate
this life-changing occasion with my kids.
47
:And today I just wanted to share with
you a few things that we have done.
48
:In our home that.
49
:Point to Christ in his sacrifice.
50
:The first.
51
:Ideally I'd like to share is
a book or commendation that I
52
:heard of from my friend Holly.
53
:And it came just at the
perfect time for my family.
54
:So we started doing this.
55
:When my boys were younger.
56
:And it was, it came at a season where I
knew the Lord was stirring in my heart.
57
:Just asking if I was focusing
enough on grace in my home.
58
:Those who are near to me know that I often
struggle to accept my own weaknesses and
59
:failures and with all of the correction
and instruction I provide for my children.
60
:I just wanted to make sure are they really
understanding grace and forgiveness?
61
:I'm truly thankful for the Lord.
62
:Whenever you feel like your
parenting pendulum is tilting a
63
:little bit to one side, how he
makes sure to get you back on track.
64
:When a good friend shared the
following Easter activity with me, I
65
:thought this is such a great way to
make grace tangible to my children.
66
:Jill Hardy wrote a beautiful
story, entitled the sparkle, egg
67
:about a boy learning how Jesus
has sacrificed impacts him.
68
:The book summary is as follows.
69
:Easter is coming and Sam loves Easter,
but this year he's upset about a lie.
70
:He told his parents.
71
:Even though he apologized
and they forgave him.
72
:Sam can't shake the feeling that
he is a bad kid for what he did.
73
:Meanwhile, his parents help him make a
special Easter craft called a sparkle ag.
74
:His mom tells him to write
anything he feels sorry about or
75
:ashamed of on a piece of paper
and put it inside his sparkle leg.
76
:On Easter morning when he opens
his egg, expecting a surprise.
77
:Sam vines that it is empty.
78
:His parents explained that because Jesus
died and rose again, we are forgiven.
79
:Like the tomb that first Easter
day Sam's egg is empty and Sam's
80
:wrongdoing is completely forgiven.
81
:Once he accepts this forgiveness
fully, Sam realizes a truth.
82
:We can shine with God's light.
83
:When we let God's gift
of grace into our hearts.
84
:So the basic concept is that you read
the book with your children and then
85
:each person decorates a sparkle egg.
86
:I found.
87
:Some simple eggs at Walmart
that had glitter on them.
88
:And we bought those and then glued
beads or different craft items on them.
89
:And they all decorated them.
90
:Of course, mom's got a man the hot glue
gun, then I gave them each a piece of
91
:paper and explained that they were to,
depending on their ability level, they
92
:can draw a picture or write something.
93
:Down about something that they know
that they need to leave at the cross,
94
:that something that they're still
struggling to feel forgiven about.
95
:Now you don't want this
to feel forced or coerced.
96
:It's wonderful if they don't have
anything like that, but maybe they
97
:can't think of it right on the spot.
98
:And.
99
:And you might need time for little
ones, especially to think of that.
100
:But I always do this with my kids.
101
:'cause I find that.
102
:The truth and Romans eight one, there
is therefore now no condemnation.
103
:For those who are in Christ.
104
:Jesus.
105
:That is a truth.
106
:I need to repeat to myself often.
107
:And when the enemy tries to
remind me of mistakes that I
108
:know I have taken to the cross.
109
:That I need to continue to
preach the gospel to myself.
110
:So I always draw a picture or write
something down for myself so that That I
111
:can also embrace this miraculous truth.
112
:That Jesus died for my sins.
113
:So we fold up those little pieces
of paper and I don't ask my
114
:children to share them with me.
115
:And we put them inside the sparkle
egg, and I make sure that I remember.
116
:Which egg belongs to which child.
117
:Then when I'm preparing.
118
:Their Easter baskets.
119
:I removed the paper from the eggs and
close the egg backup and make sure that
120
:it's in the right child's Easter basket.
121
:You could of course do this idea without
the book, but I've found that the
122
:book communicates in a very clear way,
this amazing concept to little ones.
123
:Another powerful idea.
124
:That is.
125
:Been impactful for my children.
126
:Is that a week or two
before Easter, I get out.
127
:Homemade set of resurrection
eggs that I made.
128
:When I taught third grade,
I had a store-bought version
129
:that the students really loved.
130
:But I found, a set of pastel
speckled eggs at hobby lobby.
131
:One year and it was a great deal.
132
:I took these speckled
eggs and a gold marker.
133
:And made my own version making
a simple drawing on each egg.
134
:I put those in a basket and then
I use the book Benjamin's box.
135
:And I lead my children through
this fictitious little boys
136
:observations of the holy week.
137
:It is a powerful.
138
:Though, not overly graphic
method for teaching children
139
:about Jesus, his sacrifice.
140
:There are a page or two
that you might want to be.
141
:Careful about if your children
are particularly sensitive.
142
:But it's not as graphic as many
crucifixion depictions are.
143
:This will forever be.
144
:An activity that I treasure
above so much because my oldest
145
:actually accepted Christ.
146
:After we went through this
story, he really was able to
147
:see what Jesus has done for him.
148
:And why each step in this
story is so important.
149
:Each time you turn a page in the book.
150
:There is an item that
relates to that page.
151
:For example, there may be a
coin on the egg that corresponds
152
:to the page about Judas betrayed Jesus.
153
:I know that the store-bought version
of resurrection eggs are all over,
154
:so I'm sure you can find those.
155
:On Amazon or at a craft store and we'll
link to these books and resurrection eggs.
156
:In the show notes.
157
:Feel free to click on
that too, to make it easy.
158
:Another activity that is a must
do for us is every Saturday
159
:evening, before Easter Sunday.
160
:My boys and I have made
resurrection roles.
161
:These are a very simple way to show
children that Jesus was in the tomb.
162
:And then he wasn't.
163
:You and tomb a marshmallow with
the butter and cinnamon sugar.
164
:And this represents.
165
:The spices and involvement process.
166
:That the women.
167
:honored Christ's body with, and
then you wrap this marshmallow.
168
:You wrap it and place it
inside of a Crescent roll.
169
:So you're not going to roll the
crest and roll like you normally do.
170
:You're just going to fold
it over the marshmallow.
171
:I will tell you that it's.
172
:Absolutely important that you pinch
the sides together, super tight.
173
:Otherwise the marshmallow we'll see about,
and it will feel much less mysterious.
174
:You bake them for 10 to 12
minutes and then you leave the
175
:rolls in the oven overnight.
176
:When you wake up on Easter
morning, you get out the rolls.
177
:And when you bite in.
178
:You will discover that they are hollow and
that Jesus, the marshmallow has arisen.
179
:Instead you just have a delicious
and very easy cheap for the morning.
180
:Like I said, it's very
simple, but it's effective
181
:and a fun way.
182
:For kids to see what Christ has done.
183
:I'll also link to that
recipe in the show notes.
184
:Betsy always does an egg smash
every year after Easter dinner,
185
:she brings out a large basket of
beautifully dyed hard-boiled eggs.
186
:All the guests get into pairs and
try to smash their opponents eggs.
187
:So everybody only gets one.
188
:In your duel, you are allowed
to just hold the egg and smash
189
:it against your opponents egg.
190
:If your egg cracks, you are out.
191
:In almost every battle.
192
:One is going to crack and the
other is going to remain intact.
193
:This tournament continues.
194
:With the new pairings of uncracked
eggs, getting together until the last
195
:person doesn't have a crack deck.
196
:My uncle David usually really
goes for it and smashes hard.
197
:And sometimes that pays off
for him and he is the winter.
198
:It's fun to have a prize or a
little extra dessert for the winner.
199
:of course before all of
this, those hard-boiled eggs.
200
:serve as a beautiful
part of your decorations.
201
:Growing up.
202
:And even to this day, my mom loves to
make large sidewalk talk birthday signs.
203
:In our driveway.
204
:She does this for many holidays.
205
:And we really like to make
a huge, he is risen sign.
206
:On our driveway for Easter.
207
:Make it as big as you can,
as vibrant as you can.
208
:It's usually the first time it's
warm enough to break up the sidewalk.
209
:Talk again.
210
:So we really like to get
that out and to just declare.
211
:That he is risen.
212
:To all who walked by.
213
:And I think this would be a really
sweet went to even get neighbor
214
:kids, to participate in and have a
great conversation about why Easter
215
:is so important to your family.
216
:A truly simple and easy tradition.
217
:That is a must do for
us on Easter morning.
218
:Is our confetti egg tradition.
219
:I found these at Walmart
a couple of years ago.
220
:And I think we've used them maybe five
years in a row and they still have them.
221
:I'm so thankful.
222
:Each year I buy extra just in
case they stop making them,
223
:but so far I've.
224
:The big foot to see that
they're still there.
225
:And they're super inexpensive.
226
:So I buy these confetti eggs.
227
:And they are hollow eggs that
are filled with confetti and then
228
:sealed off with tissue paper.
229
:And I will put down a plastic
tablecloth and there are cuter
230
:options every year with these.
231
:I'll put a plastic, tablecloth
that down on the table.
232
:And then I set the table.
233
:With.
234
:Just maybe a fun napkins and
paper plates, because I have
235
:learned that is part of the key.
236
:To a peaceful holiday
morning with little ones.
237
:I just want to make sure that.
238
:Can we get to church on time and
joyful and all of those little
239
:things have really helped.
240
:With those items on the table, then
I will set out these confetti eggs.
241
:And it's nice because they have that
flat edge where the tissue paper is.
242
:So they will.
243
:Set nicely around the table.
244
:Then on Easter morning before we eat.
245
:We grab our resurrection eggs and
we shout as loud as they want.
246
:And then we smashed the confetti
eggs on the table and it looks so
247
:pretty with all of the confetti.
248
:I just always want my kids to
know I'm going to cheer louder
249
:for Jesus than for anything.
250
:And then we enjoy breakfast
together before we get ready.
251
:There are also some worship songs.
252
:That I like to put on in the background.
253
:Was it a morning like this, I love the
lyrics of that and the anticipation.
254
:That.
255
:Produces.
256
:Those are some of my favorite
ways to keep the focus.
257
:Of Easter truly on Christ, but to
make it really fun for little ones.
258
