Would you buy a house that’s too small because it’s more convenient, and run the risk of outgrowing the house and having to move again? Not a great idea, right? Wordpress is that home you can grow into. It’s like that unfinished basement that you can fix up to be whatever you need it to be.
Wordpress is so robust that it can be intimidating. I get it. When you’re building your website, don’t just build it for where you are right now. Set up the foundation for where you want your business to be, what you want it to be capable of, even if you don’t build everything right off the bat. Hopping from platform to platform will hurt your SEO and your Google ranking.
When choosing your platform, choose wisely. Choose something that will be able to give you what you need down the road, not just what works for right now.

A Podcast Launch Bestie production
Hello, hello, hello and welcome to episode seven of
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Season two, more than a Brand podcast.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So for those of you who don't know, I have moved like seven times in
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:the past years, almost 17 years.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So during the day, I'm active duty Army.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So moving is kind of my thing.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We're almost done moving y.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:This should be the home that we're in right now should be our forever home.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So right now we are in Maryland, Anne Arundel County.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Hey y'all.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Hey dmv.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But when we were moving up here, we were looking for a home and we moved
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:in 20 20, 21 is when we got here.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you were paying attention to the housing market in 2021, if you wanted
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:a house, and you saw it, you better put in your offer the moment you saw it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You need to dream about it and put in your offer in the dream
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:before you see the house, because that's how fast houses were going.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So we were located in North Carolina, so not too bad of a
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:drive from North Carolina to here.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It was about five and a half hours.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and what we would do is we had a real estate agent, and her name is Shannon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Shannon, o Fi.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Me and Shannon go back.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So me and Shannon were deployed to Afghanistan together.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We were the only two girls, two females in the.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Company that we were in, in the organization that we were in.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And on Sundays we would go do what we call coffee cake and conversation.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So we would go to this little coffee shop in Kandahar, Afghanistan, get
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:some coffee, have conversation about things that don't have to do at
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:work, just to kind of let your hair down and we would share a cheesecake
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So it's the little things y'all.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's the little things.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But anyway, so Shannon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:. She left the military and she became a real estate agent, and she specifically
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:helps she'll help anyone, but she really knows her way around VA loans
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and helping military people get homes.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And she's licensed to do real estate in both Maryland, Virginia.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I wanna say California cuz that's where she's from.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Like she's licensed through real estate everywhere.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Shannon's your girl Shannon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Look her up.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But anyway, so we were working with Shannon and what we would do is we
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:would drive up from North Carolina.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:On weekends and she would have, we would just go from house to
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:house to house, seeing what they look like, where we wanna live.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Some of the houses, by the time we got back to the round table at night to decide
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:what we wanted to bid on, they were gone.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So houses were moving quickly.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Now, Shannon.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If she, we were looking at houses in Howard County first because, um,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:schools, uh, heard the Howard County schools are better and we have Kennedy.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:She's going into, she'll be a ninth grader next year.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:You know, my baby's be, become getting grown.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:She's gonna be a high schooler, but the plan was to live in Howard County.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:A lot of houses in Howard County that were within our budget were
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:built in like 19 60, 19 50, and that just wasn't working out for us.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I don't want, I didn't want somebody's old house because I just didn't, I
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:know people like, well, it has good bones, but I just didn't want that.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So we ended up, Shannon was like, I really think you guys should look
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:at Anne Arun County because you're gonna get more house for your money.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:At this point.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We had.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Driven up here either once or twice.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And then we had Carter, she was a newborn at the time, and we was just
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:like, all right, Shannon, whatever.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So we do the thing again.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We come up here, we look at some houses, we're looking at Annapolis,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:look at Summit Millersville.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And then Shannon kept talking about, There's this house in Crownsville
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:that you guys should go see.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And we're like, Crownsville Shannon, what?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Girl?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:What?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And she just kept talking about Crownsville and kept talking about it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So we ended up going to the Crownsville house and the basement wasn't
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:there, but the house was gorgeous.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We loved it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And it got down to.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Two houses.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So it was a house in Millersville and it was a house in Crownsville.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The one in Millersville.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:The basement was not finished, but it had 0.56 acres of land, so
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:more land, unfinished basement.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So Ash Shannon was talking about.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Helping us decide on which house we should go with.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:She said, I think, and I personally like, she was like, I am not telling
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you this as a real estate agent.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm telling you this as because we're friends, we're battle buddies.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:We'd done been to war together, we friends.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But, um, I'm telling you this, that I would choose the house with the unfinished
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:basement because you can grow into it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:, meaning you can develop the basement, you can create whatever
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:kind of space you want to because that's a blank canvas down there.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And we put in the bid in the house in Crownsville.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And needless to say, I'm living in Crownsville.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But I gave you this whole backstory because just like Shannon was telling
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:us that you need to be able to grow into your home, cuz who wa we done moved?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I don't know how many times.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm not trying to move again because we outgrow a house.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:But Shannon said you should have a house that you can grow into.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's what WordPress is.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:WordPress is that web hosting platform that gives you the option to expand.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It already has the space there.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's a blank canvas, just like my unfinished basement downstairs.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's a blank canvas that you can create whatever kind of space you.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you wanna create a space for a portfolio, you have that option.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you wanna create a learning space, you have that in WordPress.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you want to create an e-commerce where you're selling physical
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:products, you have that option too.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:With WordPress, it gives you the space to grow, and in the beginning,
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:People first get into WordPress.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:A lot of times they get overwhelmed because WordPress it's so
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:robust that it, scares people.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It seems like a lot to take on, but guess what?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:, when you first start your site on WordPress, you don't have to take
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:on all the things at the same time.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Y'all, I've been in this house since 2021 and my kid told me today, mom, every month
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:or so, you just add a little bit more to the house because we're growing into it.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It wasn't perfect the way we got.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It had the bones, the structure, everything that we needed
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:and the space for us to grow.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:When you're choosing which platform to put your website on, . Don't
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:just think about the right now.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Don't just think about what kind of d e I consultant you are
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:right now at this day and time.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Who do you want to be later?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Do you want to have a platform or a course that you can license
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:out to these B2B clients?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:, do you want to have a community where you can bring together other d EI
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:practitioners and professionals, or do you want to sell t-shirts that says
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:your slogan or your catchphrase on it?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Because you have a message that everyone needs to hear because you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:are making a difference in how people.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Able to show up in the workplace without having fear of reprisal
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:or without having fear of being discriminated against your work.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Is that important?
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So don't tiptoe around trying to make a decision on what platform
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:you put your website on own.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Don't do it because if you plan for the right now, you are
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:gonna have to hop up and move.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And nobody likes to move.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you listen to previous episodes, you know that I said moving from
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:platform to platform will hurt.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Your SEO is inevitable.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:It's gonna happen.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:There's some ways to try to salvage it, but it's no a hundred percent
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:guarantee that you're gonna stay there.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:So you want to, when choosing your platform, choose wisely.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you know that two, three years from now you're gonna be running
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:this evergreen course, so you don't have to go be a practitioner or you
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:don't have to do so much 1 0 1 work.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:choose the platform that works best for you.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:I'm an advocate for WordPress because WordPress does give you that flexibility
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:to evolve into whatever you want to.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If you want to turn it into a learning and a community environ.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:On your website, WordPress gives that to you.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Just like us in our basement.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:If we wanna turn it into a movie room, we could do that.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:And then later on, once Kennedy goes to college, if we wanna turn it into like a
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:little mini apartment, we can do that too.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's the beauty of having a space, specifically a web space that has
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:all the tools you need to grow into.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:That's it for episode seven.
Lindsay Tramel-Jones:Y'all, as always, feel free to send me a DM or let me know what you think and
