There are places where a big whitetail is measured in the 140s or 150s and you’ve got yourself one hell of a deer. Then there are places where bucks can reach a completely different level—and south of the border in Mexico is one of them.

This week, we’re welcoming back Corey Millif, owner and operator of The Last Frontier Challenge. Corey joined us way back in Episode 195, and today we’re catching up on what life looks like chasing giant, free-range Mexican whitetails.

Corey lives in Texas but operates a ranch down in Mexico, traveling back and forth across the border to hunt some truly incredible country. We get into what makes hunting Mexico so unique, what it takes to consistently find and hunt mature bucks down there, and some of the experiences that come with running a hunting operation on the other side of an international border.

But hunting is only part of Corey’s story. He’s also a talented taxidermist, which led us into a side of international hunting that most hunters probably never think about—the challenges of bringing unfinished hides back into the United States. We talk about the regulations surrounding those hides, the concerns over ticks and the diseases they can potentially carry, and why getting your trophy home isn’t always as simple as loading it up and heading north.

It’s been a long time since we caught up with Corey, and there’s plenty to talk about—from monster free-range bucks and hunting Mexico to taxidermy, border crossings, and everything that comes with pursuing whitetails in the Last Frontier.
