Speaker A:

And welcome to another edition of championship year.

Speaker A:

It's:

Speaker A:

These are the teams that had the best records would be the champions.

Speaker A:

Well in most cases but we won't get into that right at the moment.

Speaker A:

Now the:

Speaker A:

nce again just like it was in:

Speaker A:

now is that at the end of the:

Speaker A:

It really didn't have the Full effects that went into the economy until later on after the football season.

Speaker A:

But:

Speaker A:

In week number nine, both sides had excellent records.

Speaker A:

Between the packers and the G men, Green Bay was 8, 0 and New York was hot on seals at 101 0.

Speaker A:

On November 23, they locked horns at the Polo Grounds.

Speaker A:

And in New York in front of a crowd of 37,000.

Speaker A:

The Giants emerged victorious with a score of 136 in a victory over Green Bay, settling their record at 11 wins and two losses.

Speaker A:

But after Thanksgiving Day saw them lose to Staten Island 7 6.

Speaker A:

Green Bay bounced back by the way, defeating the Frankfort Yellowjackets 257 and retaking the lead with nine wins to two losses with an 818 percentage.

Speaker A:

The Giants were sitting there with their 846.

Speaker A:

It went down to the final two weeks as Green Bay fell in week 13 to the Chicago Bears by three scores.

Speaker A:

Now that's kind of surprising because it was.

Speaker A:

Bay packers and champions of:

Speaker A:

But the Bears, well they didn't really want to have be that good of a host again and they took it to him with a 21 to nothing win by the Bears.

Speaker A:

Red Grange ended up recovering a fumble as the packers only long drive of the day, one yard line.

Speaker A:

When Grange scooped a fumble up and got this danger of scoring for the packers out of the way.

Speaker A:

The Bears hung on Luke John for had touchdowns.

Speaker A:

I'm sorry.

Speaker A:

Luke Johnson had two passes from Brombaugh for touchdowns.

Speaker A:

And Dick Nesbitt charged 41 yards through the Packer line for the other touchdown.

Speaker A:

Those three scores, 21 to nothing.

Speaker A:

And now the records are knotted up.

Speaker A:

You know, the packers having three losses, they have one game left against the Portsmouth Spartans.

Speaker A:

The New York Giants on the other hand, they had their three losses going into their last game which was against the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Speaker A:

I'm sorry they said third to last game against the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Speaker B:

Well, Staten island beat them 6, 7.

Speaker A:

Like we talked about the very next game three days later, that was Thanksgiving Day.

Speaker A:

The Sunday after Thanksgiving they lose to The Brooklyn Dodgers 6 to 7, same score.

Speaker A:

Now they have four losses their last two games.

Speaker A:

Frankfort and Brooklyn.

Speaker A:

Well the New York Giants beat the Frankfurt Yellowjackets 146 on December 6.

Speaker A:

In December 7 they followed up with another win over the Brooklyn Dodgers that just beat them two weeks ago, 13 to nothing.

Speaker B:

They finish at 10 4.

Speaker B:

The packers end up Tying that final game against the Portsmouth Spartans.

Speaker B:

So it goes down.

Speaker B:

The records are Green Bay at 10.

Speaker A:

3 and 1 with a 769 record.

Speaker A:

The New York Giants with the 13.

Speaker B:

And 4.765.004 in the win loss percentage.

Speaker B:

The packers win the National Football League, their second championship.

Speaker B:

And wow, that is something else.

Speaker A:

Now the pressure was on the Packers.

Speaker A:

You know, they had all this.

Speaker A:

And how would they, a small market.

Speaker B:

Team survive the Great Depression?

Speaker A:

Well, it was because of their winning ways and their talented roster.

Speaker B:

We told you much about them yesterday.

Speaker B:

You know, fantastic players with Llewellyn, Lavi.

Speaker A:

Dillwig, Johnny Blood McNally, Mike Mahalski and Clark Hinkle were just really just taking things into their own hands and bringing the team on their own backs and making them popular with the team and the fans in the fan base.

Speaker A:

So they would use their last nickels to go, literally go and watch the Green Bay packers play their games, keeping them in business.

Speaker A:

And the packers in return repaid their.

Speaker B:

Fans for their loyalty and their hard earned dollars by winning a second straight championship.

Speaker B:

So that is just a fantastic finish for the NFL and really did numbers for that.

Speaker B:

packers closed the decade in:

Speaker B:

And this also closed an era of professional collegiate football that many consider the golden era.

Speaker A:

You know, this is the first year.

Speaker B:

1929 was the last season that Curly Lambeau played.

Speaker B:

s a player coach up until the:

Speaker B:

And he was going to go on for a while coaching the Green Bay packers.

Speaker B:

And boy, they were glad to have him there because there was some more.

Speaker A:

Good days to come.

Speaker B:

ampionships when we go to the:

Speaker B:

There's only two more to cover here.

Speaker A:

In February before we get into the.

Speaker B:

Ones that have the big games, the scheduled championship games.

Speaker B:

And we're going to be starting those on Monday, March 3rd.

Speaker B:

We're going to cover the:

Speaker B:

The Chicago legend is coming to join us.

Speaker A:

Author of multiple books on the Cardinals.

Speaker B:

lk about that Bears team from:

Speaker B:
