[00:00:14] Eric Goranson: house. When it comes to remodeling and renovating your home. There is a lot
[:[00:00:25] Eric Goranson: the house too, around the house with Eric G and Caroline be your whole improvement source every week. Thanks for joining us. This is the mid week. So I'm back in town and
[:[00:00:39] Caroline Blazovsky: We recorded yesterday and I felt like I was, had been out in the zone. I need to get back in this. Um,
[:[00:01:03] Eric Goranson: Right.
[:[00:01:10] Eric Goranson: cool. Oh yeah. Yeah. Well, and we did a lot and uh, let's talk about that. I wanted to kind of do a debrief real quick here on my last jeez, nine days at design and construction week, because it was a week of building sweating and lots of freaking talking.
[:[00:01:31] Caroline Blazovsky: a little bit, you said.
[:[00:01:59] Eric Goranson: It [00:02:00] all smells like mold and mildew. When you open that door and walk into your room, it's it's bad. And my paycheck. Oh, you know, and will say, yeah, you should move to Florida, Caroline, because that's a moneymaker right there. I tell you what, and I will say something and I'm going to bag on Orlando a little bit.
[:[00:02:51] Eric Goranson: Let's put it. So it was interesting. We went, okay. Here's a restaurant store for you. Restaurant story for us, we [00:03:00] went in, uh, one night, uh, in the middle of the show to go eat at this, um, steak house. A bunch of us came down. There was some DuPont people. We were all sitting down for steak. They were not ready for the trade show cause we had 70,000 people roughly at the.
[:[00:03:36] Eric Goranson: I felt bad for this waiter kid because he. Had to keep coming back. I ordered a rum and Coke. My quarters are Roman Coke over the age of 25, but he ordered a room and Coke, sorry, we're at a rum. I mean, you have this huge part and you're at a rum. They were at a rum. And so they kept running out of stuff. We ordered the salads and the everything else.
[:[00:04:20] Eric Goranson: This was like three quarters of an inch steak. I'm like, you just took my Porter house and split down the middle. I made two steaks. I was not impressed. I had steak and sink. Exactly. Exactly. I'm like really? It was still, it was rough, it was rough, but, uh, it was a fun trip going down there building, um, we had disasters, we had victories disasters.
[:[00:05:10] Eric Goranson: Cause I had to build this 15 by 30 stage from scratch. Start out with a piece of carpet. Yeah, it was crazy. So here's the bad part. This Florida weedy rep who is there to help me out is carrying some staff. He's walking to come meet me at the back door of the convention. He walks right into a freaking pole, drops him, blood running out of his.
[:[00:05:53] Eric Goranson: Oh, just the entire curve of his eyes. Oh, what? Everywhere. It [00:06:00] looks like a murder scene. I thought I was on criminal minds or something. It was bad. I was like, wow. Okay. So I get out there. There's security around there. There's EMT there. They get him all bandaged up. I get the material and I was sad. Cause we couldn't even use the materials.
[:[00:06:41] Eric Goranson: You know, I had Cheryl helping us. We just had a great, a great exactly. We were making sawdust in the middle of the convention center. Oh yeah, that was awesome. So it was a lot of fun. It was, it was [00:07:00] enjoyable time. And then I had to give seminars and so. I gave six seminars a day, three days, 18 seminars, and three around the house recordings, the
[:[00:07:19] Caroline Blazovsky: I mean, that's a lot of talking and he powered through champion.
[:[00:07:43] Eric Goranson: Yes, he doing. Good. You know, he's my guess. Is he retiring? He stayed down. No, no, he's still, still doing his TV show, you know? And it looked like he was getting ready [00:08:00] to do TV. Cause he had all his makeup and stuff on for TV. So he was probably doing something around there. I don't know. At pancake makeup, he was doing his thing.
[:[00:08:17] Eric Goranson: Hey, yay. Oh yeah. Yeah.
[:[00:08:26] Eric Goranson: Absolute treasure. Yeah. He, he, uh, he had, uh, looked like he had hit the, uh, hit the Macy's counter one too many times, but you know, it was welcome to TV. That's how it goes. Sometimes you can make up it up a little bit. Who else did he was there watching the show?
[:[00:08:46] Caroline Blazovsky: Yes.
[:[00:09:05] Eric Goranson: Put some clean clothes on to go over shower. I had a pocket knife in my pocket. I get over there and I'm like, oh, full on security checkpoint to get into city walk. Just like you were going into an airport. Dang it. Losing my pocket knife. So lost my pocket knife. Now I have another pocket knife,
[:[00:09:25] Eric Goranson: back and get it.
[:[00:09:50] Eric Goranson: So I just got home, had my backpack, which is my carry on luggage, pulled my laptop out just a few minutes ago. What was in the bottom of my backpack [00:10:00] that. Coast raise your knife. And I made it on the plane with it,
[:[00:10:23] Caroline Blazovsky: You could have totally just like, oh my dad's not good safety.
[:[00:10:40] Eric Goranson: Oh my
[:[00:10:45] Eric Goranson: Well, I went through the radar, you know, they put, you put your bag in and it goes through, I mean, it wasn't on me. It was of course running down through the thing, but there bell in fair defense conveyor belt go to the detector I had. Tool batteries.
[:[00:11:02] Caroline Blazovsky: it's like metal and it should trigger it and they should pull it out.
[:[00:11:11] Caroline Blazovsky: inside edition special right there. They're worried about crazy contractors. Hey, by the way, when you were away, did you, when you were waiting, did you see the post I put up about another crazy contractor gone mad.
[:[00:11:29] Caroline Blazovsky: that was home advisor, home advisors. Not like they say they're back checking, but they're not back checking. And that guy like had a drunken, like outrage and he trashed the house.
[:[00:11:49] Eric Goranson: I was at a job site and home advisor called this guy out. He's a contractor. He'd had a dispute with a payment with a homeowner [00:12:00] homeowner, left him a bad review at the time on home advisor, home advisor called up and called him up and said, Hey, if you want our, we can charge your card for $400. We'll bury that at the very end.
[:[00:12:43] Eric Goranson: What do you do? So, yeah, I don't trust those guys. I don't trust any of those lead referral services. Sorry guys. That's just not my jam, not my jam. I'd like to see some better jobs on those kinds of things, but, uh, hung out with skip. And Alison, we went to that night, went to [00:13:00] Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and had a good time with that.
[:[00:13:22] Eric Goranson: We had one of our listeners that won the Santa Fe de humidity. She was there came by and said, yeah, came by and said, hi. Um, just a lot of good people there. The Nicki Kruger's of the world, you know, from Santa Fe, she was a sponsor of my stage. So that was great. And so did a bunch of stuff with her up there as well.
[:[00:13:53] Caroline Blazovsky: Yeah, I love that. I don't want to look at my phone anymore. Just between social media, all the texting I have to do.
[:[00:14:08] Eric Goranson: So there's a lot of cool stuff. So, uh, including, you know, decking and appliances and, and, uh, there were companies out there that did a great job at the show that, that brought their a game.
[:[00:14:34] Caroline Blazovsky: overall. And a zero to 10 rating. How, how, how good was the show?
[:[00:15:08] Caroline Blazovsky: Did you get us a truck yet and want to lightning? That was
[:[00:15:15] Caroline Blazovsky: I'm waiting for Eric to work out my truck. Where's my truck. I want a Silverado. I'm happy with Silverado. I'm happy with a Ford, any kind of EBV vehicle. Fine by me.
[:[00:15:31] Eric Goranson: I mean, the Silverado was there. He was farther away from my booth, so it was really hard. I could only get. I couldn't even great example here. So we had our stage over the home tech zone in the west hall, the north south, to give you some scale to this the north south hall from, from, for me to walk from my booth to the hall, from the home technology zone over to the high performance building zone, which is our other dual stage over there.
[:[00:16:02] Caroline Blazovsky: Can you lose weight?
[:[00:16:24] Eric Goranson: It was good. It was a great show. Had a good time and then spent the last. You know, 36 hours with a little R and R time at the hard rock hotel at the beach there at the hotel.
[:[00:16:40] Eric Goranson: it warm? I had some good food. It was well, you can still see, I got a little sunburn left on my forehead here.
[:[00:17:12] Eric Goranson: Cut bananas, fresh bananas, little Carmel sauce, drools drizzled on top. And then you had the, uh, the syrup on top of that. It was to dive
[:[00:17:26] Eric Goranson: for breakfast. It was awesome.
[:[00:17:32] Eric Goranson: Yeah. Then, then you pair that with your, uh, pictures of grapefruit mimosas for breakfast.
[:[00:17:41] Caroline Blazovsky: I'm not gonna steal.
[:[00:17:52] Caroline Blazovsky: Yeah. COVID has now released. A little bit and everybody that we were preparing for prior to COVID. [00:18:00] So we had a lot of physicians referring to us and doctor's offices.
[:[00:18:10] Eric Goranson: Yeah. Yeah. Uh, our last day, the, uh, all of universal. Which was including our hotel, had a mask mandate, and then that disappeared if you were vaccinated. So it was like one day everyone's masked the next day, no one had a mask.
[:[00:18:39] Caroline Blazovsky: You brought back so much exciting information coming to. You guys are going to be blown away, but all the new products and the technology and Eric went down and got all the dirt.
[:[00:18:53] Eric Goranson: Yeah. Talk about that hour one, right? We're going to be diving into a dive in, into some of those new [00:19:00] products, an hour, one and hour two. We've got our good friends at Broan. NuTone
[:[00:19:12] Caroline Blazovsky: And they like healthy homes. So I'm all I give him the thumbs up.
[:[00:19:29] Caroline Blazovsky: that makes our lives so much better, we need stuff that we can easily get into homes and, and retrofit.
[:[00:19:49] Eric Goranson: yes, Han. Absolutely. And then, uh, we'll be talking here as well.
[:[00:20:04] Caroline Blazovsky: indoors. That's cool. Like a hamper that's hidden in your door.
[:[00:20:16] Eric Goranson: I'm Eric G and I'm Caroline B, you been listening to
