podcast, I created it as a space

to talk about the truths of midlife

identity and really evolving into

becoming more of our true selves.

And today's episode is

I finally get to share something that I

have poured months of energy, intention,

and love into, and I am so excited

to finally be able to share this.

So why did I focus on midlife for women?

Because we've been taught for so

long that midlife is a crisis.

It is not a crisis.

I know some people go through these

shifts where they feel like their life

is a crisis, and we have these moments.

In our mid forties where we're

like, is this all there is?

But it's really a shift into becoming

more of our wise, true selves.

It's a time when we finally stopped

measuring our value by how useful

we are or how agreeable we are to

everyone else, and in the moment

we realize that our mothers.

Whispered about menopause and midlife,

and we are so done whispering.

This is where I am so grateful for

some of the celebrities that have

brought this up and into the forefront

because we need to be talking about it.

We need to stop whispering in corners

and midlife is when we start asking like,

what is the next season going to be like?

What gets to be more true for me?

And how can I be more of my true self?

So why did I create the

rewrite, the Rules Bundle?

This is for women who are like me

and women like you, and women who

have spent decades doing what we

thought we were supposed to do.

Buying into the bill of goods.

That has turned out to be bullshit.

We've built careers, we're raising

families, we're caregiving, we're

being everything to everyone.

And somewhere along the way

we lost touch with ourselves.

I know this so intimately because I

spent years shape shifting, trying

to be who I thought I should be.

I changed jobs, I changed directions.

I tried to fit into a mold that never fit.

And no matter how hard I worked, I

still felt like I was falling short.

I felt like I was failing.

I wasn't enough.

But everything changed

when I found Human Design.

my body and I stopped over functioning as

a way of like trying to prove my worth.

This is a Kansas City based

nonprofit that provides high quality

healthcare to women and people

who otherwise could not afford it.

And healthcare is deeply personal to me.

I have had health issues much of

my adult life, but when it really

affected me most is before Obamacare.

In the mid nineties, I could

not get health insurance.

I had a preexisting condition that

stopped me from being able to access

healthcare in the way that I really needed

I didn't always get the preventative

care that I needed because I knew

that I most likely would not be able

to afford it, so I put things off.

It was a very long five years.

And then last year after I turned

50, I joined a perimenopause book

group and it was so informative and

I was shocked to learn how under

researched and poorly understood

this stage of life is even in:

Women as a whole are under researched, but

women in midlife are even less represented

because in medical school, only 20%

of the education that OBGYNs receive

is about perimenopause and midlife.

There's so much focus on delivering

babies and pregnant women that they

don't even think about the fact that

half of the population is dealing

with perimenopause and post-menopause.

There's so little information

for doctors and for us as women,

the information is so scattered.

It's confusing, it's full of gaps.

There's so much stuff online that

is actually not even true, and

there are symptoms that maybe

don't, aren't fully understood.

Like I never could understand why.

Some days I can see well, and

other days I can't see well.

And then I went to my optometrist and

she said, yeah, welcome to perimenopause.

Your eyes are gonna change daily.

And then I found out that I

have morning plantar fasciitis.

I can't get out of bed sometimes,

not because I don't wanna get

outta bed, but because I get

up and my feet are just like.

Oh, I don't wanna move.

I learned about this from my massage

therapist and from this book group,

and my massage therapist actually

gave me a tool to use to help me

be able to get out of bed without

feeling like I'm going to fall over.

And unless you have the right

provider and a lot of time and

money, you're probably often left

to figure this all out on your own.
