I am Dallas Burnett sitting in my 1905 Coke Brothers barber

Speaker:

chair in Thrive Studios.

Speaker:

But more importantly, we have a great guest today, Mark Jordan.

Speaker:

He's an investor, an author.

Speaker:

But also a scuba diver in volcanoes.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

What in the world?

Speaker:

He's also the founder of Unravel.

Speaker:

Welcome to the show, Mark.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Dallas, thanks man.

Speaker:

Thanks for having me.

Speaker:

I'm looking forward to spending some time together today, man

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Absolutely.

Speaker:

So I've got to get to this because this came out in our show prep.

Speaker:

You have literally gone scuba diving in a volcano.

Speaker:

I can say that is definitely not something that I've done before.

Speaker:

So how did that happen?

Speaker:

And tell us about that experience a little bit.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah, I love telling the story.

Speaker:

It's a fun trip My wife and I took to Santorini one time in Greece and you

Speaker:

know when you think about volcano people envision volcano, gases coming out of

Speaker:

the top and it's an underwater volcano.

Speaker:

I think they if I recall the term is caldera

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Wow.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: So we scuba dived in Santorini in a

Speaker:

caldera, which is an underwater volcano.

Speaker:

And it was so cool, man.

Speaker:

It

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Wow.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: enjoyed it a lot.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Now, are you an avid scuba diver?

Speaker:

Do you do scuba dive a lot or is this something that was totally out of the box?

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: You know, we used to probably do maybe once a year

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: We're not avid like where you go, on

Speaker:

these special trips, but wherever we would go, we usually try to carve out.

Speaker:

a unique place to scuba dive.

Speaker:

And we have been fortunate to scuba in some really neat places.

Speaker:

I think my top one would be Tahiti, uh, Bora Bora and Moraya and around

Speaker:

that area there is certainly my top, but not as much anymore.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: some back surgeries that have put a crimp

Speaker:

in that, but I loved it so much.

Speaker:

It's so much fun and just incredible seeing, all the life

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: in the ocean.

Speaker:

Mhm.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I know I watched a lot of these shows,

Speaker:

but our daughters are all into that.

Speaker:

So they're watching that.

Speaker:

And that's, I've never, I've actually never gone, I've gone

Speaker:

snorkeling, but I've never taken the plunge to go deep and scuba dive,

Speaker:

but I've always thought about it.

Speaker:

So you might inspire me.

Speaker:

Maybe I'll go find an underwater volcano.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: There you go.

Speaker:

Now's your time.

Speaker:

Now's your

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: That's right.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: start somewhere simple first and then do it.

Speaker:

You're gonna love it.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Okay.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

Well, I'll check that out.

Speaker:

So tell everybody, let's talk about this because you have a background that's in

Speaker:

investment banking and real estate and a lot of financial things, but yet you've

Speaker:

gotten into this other kind of got opened up the door to this other path as well.

Speaker:

So I'd love to hear your background and got you on your path and your journey?

Speaker:

Ah, nice.

Speaker:

Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: a lot of different endeavors in my life.

Speaker:

My core business has been investment banking for a long time.

Speaker:

and throughout that, I've had, I've been involved in real estate investing,

Speaker:

owned some office buildings in Atlanta, and I've owned other rental

Speaker:

properties over the years as well.

Speaker:

And certainly have enjoyed that and got a lot out of it as well.

Speaker:

I've written a number of books.

Speaker:

They were for the most part credibility pieces, but Dallas, I got to tell

Speaker:

you that one along the journey was a children's book I did years ago.

Speaker:

This is probably 15 years ago I did as a passion project.

Speaker:

My children really encouraged me, inspired me and did a children's book

Speaker:

and did a little tour and everything and had so much fun with that.

Speaker:

So I've had a lot of endeavors like that.

Speaker:

Some have been passion projects like that.

Speaker:

my core business investment banking I've loved.

Speaker:

what sits above that though?

Speaker:

Cool.

Speaker:

It is a larger passion, a passion to invest in men and help them and

Speaker:

equip them and encourage them in the pursuit of excellence and leadership.

Speaker:

And that's really over the years.

Speaker:

Of course, I also didn't start day one like that, but it's been

Speaker:

something that's involved evolved for me over the years has become really

Speaker:

an overarching passion in my life.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I love that.

Speaker:

I think that's a very interesting that you're passionate about it because in

Speaker:

our culture today, I would say that the focus has not been on, Shaping men as

Speaker:

much as empowering other groups, I mean, I'm the father of three daughters, so I

Speaker:

am all for making sure that women have a voice and that they , have all the

Speaker:

opportunities that are afforded to anyone.

Speaker:

But that being said, it's almost like I feel like our culture may be throwing

Speaker:

the baby out with the bathwater in a way.

Speaker:

Because.

Speaker:

We definitely need to shape men and we definitely need to be focused on how

Speaker:

we can make better men, because then that would probably help solve some

Speaker:

other problems along the way as well.

Speaker:

is there a story background that inspired you or specifically

Speaker:

really got you passionate about training and transforming men?

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Speaker:

It has been, and by the way, I've got two daughters, so I totally

Speaker:

relate to what you're talking about.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: to two great men.

Speaker:

So I'm very

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: and it has been a journey.

Speaker:

It's a seasonal journey for me to get to that spot where I became

Speaker:

so passionate about it growing

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: didn't really have a really

Speaker:

strong male investment in my life.

Speaker:

My parents were My father certainly modeled hard work and I'm so grateful

Speaker:

for that, but not really a, an intentional investment in helping me,

Speaker:

pursue growth and pursue excellence.

Speaker:

And when I finished undergrad and then ultimately graduate school.

Speaker:

Connected with some guys in business that for the first time

Speaker:

I really saw them invest in me, for the most part, vocationally.

Speaker:

not a lot outside of that, but some,

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Right.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: saw it was like, wow, okay,

Speaker:

here's people investing in me.

Speaker:

And then as time went on in the next season of my life, I saw men

Speaker:

investing in people outside of business, on a personal level.

Speaker:

a long journey of being involved in many different men's groups, some

Speaker:

that were highly intellectual, some that were more, hang out sort of

Speaker:

groups and a lot of stuff, in between.

Speaker:

And those years, I really begin to sit back and go, okay, what

Speaker:

am I hearing from my friends?

Speaker:

And what am I hearing from me that men need?

Speaker:

And actually, interesting enough, your book move, which I haven't had a

Speaker:

chance to read it all, but I've read

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: of it.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: of the things you talk about in

Speaker:

there is the way that men feel stuck

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: They have this

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: That's right.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: feeling of just and

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: And the way I like to think about it is

Speaker:

family, friends, fitness, finances.

Speaker:

You've got these key areas of your life.

Speaker:

Everything rolls up into that.

Speaker:

From my

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: of course, faith wraps

Speaker:

around all of that, but

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: area in, out of those five, some men feel stuck

Speaker:

in some way, but because we don't like to admit it, but we are a bit insecure.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

So

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes!

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: it's hard for us to have space

Speaker:

to say, I'm insecure, I'm stuck.

Speaker:

I want to move forward from that.

Speaker:

And as I've been to begin to see and experience the benefits of people

Speaker:

investing in me, I've got really excited about investing in others seeing that

Speaker:

men needed that and wanted that and begin to experiment with, what could

Speaker:

that look like, to help men pursue this idea of growth and excellence.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I do think that it is, I think it's inherent

Speaker:

for men to feel insecure as a human being, just because we're all human.

Speaker:

But I think there is some pressure there, from culture that.

Speaker:

you've got to have all your, all your things in order and, or you've

Speaker:

got to be this really, charismatic swagger, confident person, because

Speaker:

that's, that's what's on social media.

Speaker:

and that, that image, I think definitely.

Speaker:

It really inhibits males ability to be open about some things that

Speaker:

they may be insecure about, or maybe feel like they need to talk about.

Speaker:

So I definitely think that's a very strong need in our culture.

Speaker:

Let me ask you a question.

Speaker:

You used a word, use a word, transformative.

Speaker:

And we talk at Think, Move, Thrive and Last 10 percent about

Speaker:

transformational leadership.

Speaker:

And leaders that are transformational.

Speaker:

Can you tell a listener's what does that mean to you?

Speaker:

And how would that be different?

Speaker:

How have you seen that transformation process?

Speaker:

Not only as it relates to men, but in leaders in your career.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: men experience, I know myself, I do is

Speaker:

that as I have this awareness and some aspect of my life that I can be

Speaker:

more, that I can grow more than the, my first reaction is to feel shame.

Speaker:

It's man, gosh, I'm so far away from where I could be or should be.

Speaker:

and that's not a good feeling of course.

Speaker:

And then what do I do with that shame?

Speaker:

And what do you do with it?

Speaker:

Oftentimes we don't know what to do with it.

Speaker:

So that one of the biggest things I've seen that have helped help not only

Speaker:

myself, but men as well as to reframe the mindset to what we like to think of

Speaker:

at unravel as progress, not perfection.

Speaker:

it's the shame is there.

Speaker:

Okay, that's fine, but what can be beyond that?

Speaker:

And if you focus on making progress instead of pursuing perfection, it

Speaker:

really, I think, frees up the space, not only to have more curiosity,

Speaker:

but also to surround yourself.

Speaker:

And I think this is a big part of that last 10 percent is surrounding yourself

Speaker:

with men, who are interested in sitting in and pursuing that last 10%, that

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: growth, because then you have space

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: to challenge your thinking because

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: We're myopic in many areas of our lives.

Speaker:

And when we have the men around us like that, they challenge our thinking, which

Speaker:

I think then inspires us to, to growth and to see more of what we can be.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I love that.

Speaker:

I think that we always talk about well when we're coaching we're

Speaker:

wanting people to run towards something and not away from something.

Speaker:

But I love how you put it because what you're saying is Even if you've chosen,

Speaker:

you're not running from something you're running towards something.

Speaker:

Okay, great.

Speaker:

But there's still more nuance to what you're running towards

Speaker:

because you can still stumble.

Speaker:

I love how you're running towards progress and not perfection because

Speaker:

it's a whole, it's just a whole lot easier to coach a mindset, in terms of

Speaker:

being positive and moving somewhere.

Speaker:

If you can see gains, everybody likes to win.

Speaker:

And I remember one time in my early in my career.

Speaker:

I got, I was in this technical sales role.

Speaker:

It was very technical, it was chemical and the sales cycle took forever.

Speaker:

I mean, it was like two years was the average sales cycle to sell one thing.

Speaker:

Now, granted, yes, long, but it might've been a million dollars sale,

Speaker:

but it took two years, you know?

Speaker:

And so I'm sitting beside the office of this other guy and he's

Speaker:

selling products that are like 20.

Speaker:

And so we're on the phone.

Speaker:

We're working just as hard.

Speaker:

And he's killing just sales every day.

Speaker:

Boom, boom, boom.

Speaker:

Oh, this is great.

Speaker:

he's high five and he's winning 20 sales or a hundred dollars sales, 200

Speaker:

sales, and I'm like two years before I can high five and go, I got one.

Speaker:

You know, my two years might have been even more than that guy, but at the end

Speaker:

of the day He's living a happy life and i'm just so mad kicking things because

Speaker:

I I was frustrated because I didn't have a small win because I hadn't achieved

Speaker:

this big thing And I feel like that's very much like what you're talking

Speaker:

about if you're going after perfection You, you end up never getting there.

Speaker:

You can't ever celebrate a win because you're always trying to reach this thing

Speaker:

that's out of reach or feel so far away is just makes it hard to celebrate.

Speaker:

Where just like my guy still on a 20 thing.

Speaker:

It's Oh, that's progress.

Speaker:

I made a 20.

Speaker:

I'm 20 up another 20, another 100, another 200.

Speaker:

And so I think that from a mindset psychology, it's so important that

Speaker:

perspective, because it allows us, it gives us the ability to breathe

Speaker:

and also the ability to celebrate.

Speaker:

Cause we can.

Speaker:

Now not be focused on this unattainable thing.

Speaker:

We can run towards something we can move on.

Speaker:

We can do right now.

Speaker:

And so that's exciting.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: And you know Dallas from the work that you do that

Speaker:

this best occurs in an environment of.

Speaker:

groups, like where you're not by yourself.

Speaker:

And this is what I think is so hard when we're on the journey of running

Speaker:

towards something, even if it's progress.

Speaker:

If we're not surrounded by other people who are like minded who are going,

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: I'm running toward, those same marks.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: hard by you.

Speaker:

It's hard enough, when you're surrounded by people, but it's very hard.

Speaker:

It's so much harder to do it by itself, by yourself for sure.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah, I think for leaders.

Speaker:

One of the challenges, and we have a lot of leaders, coaches, business owners

Speaker:

on the show, whether you're a leader, it just gets lonely at the top and the

Speaker:

higher you move in either organization, in your organization or business, the

Speaker:

more you can tend to feel isolated.

Speaker:

Because you're seen as this leader.

Speaker:

I'm supposed to have the answers.

Speaker:

Maybe you feel that way, at least.

Speaker:

And in some sense, you are casting the vision and taking the

Speaker:

team where they're going to go.

Speaker:

And so there's certain things that you just may not feel comfortable sharing

Speaker:

with those because they may not need to know, and it may stress them out.

Speaker:

And you're bearing that burden.

Speaker:

But what that does is it isolates you.

Speaker:

What would you tell someone that was Either an

Speaker:

organizational owner or a leader.

Speaker:

To encourage them to find a group that they could open up and be

Speaker:

vulnerable about some things, whether it's professional or personal?

Speaker:

That's a great question because you

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: don't know what you don't

Speaker:

know when we're sitting

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: M.

Speaker:

Mm hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: intuitively know that there's

Speaker:

some areas we need to grow in.

Speaker:

And certainly if someone asks someone, Hey, are you perfect in every area?

Speaker:

Very few people are going to say yes.

Speaker:

They're going to say, of course not.

Speaker:

The question you're posing is how do people move forward from that?

Speaker:

when people, if they're not experiencing a lot of pain in some area of their life,

Speaker:

if they're experiencing a lot of pain, usually that will, that'll drive them.

Speaker:

That'll prompt them to start scanning for, opportunities to

Speaker:

do something about that pain.

Speaker:

But the biggest challenge are for men that aren't really sitting in a lot of pain.

Speaker:

So what I encourage men to do is to do some surveying.

Speaker:

So survey five people you're close to people that will tell it that

Speaker:

will be real with you and not just, treat you like the emperor's new

Speaker:

clothes, but they'll really say, okay, really tell it to you like it is.

Speaker:

And to ask him, Hey, what are some areas in my life, that I'm weak in.

Speaker:

What are some areas that you see that I need to grow in?

Speaker:

What are some areas that you feel like I'm stuck in?

Speaker:

What are you seeing that I'm not?

Speaker:

And then you will hear from those people and you'll start to get generally a theme.

Speaker:

if you're really excited about it, survey 10 people cause then you really get a good

Speaker:

theme of where the areas that I'm stuck.

Speaker:

And then it becomes a question, Hey, maybe I don't see it that

Speaker:

way, but if I've had that people telling me that I'm stuck, okay.

Speaker:

I need to do something about it.

Speaker:

And then I encourage people to think about this.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Books are great.

Speaker:

I read a lot of books.

Speaker:

They're great.

Speaker:

They have great value and it's hard to sustain the growth

Speaker:

that you learn from a book.

Speaker:

So then it's okay, read a book.

Speaker:

But then I ask people, okay, tell me the last couple of books you've read.

Speaker:

What kind of, principles did you get from them?

Speaker:

How much of that is, are you really implementing right now in your life?

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: that that's not happening extensively.

Speaker:

You need people around you to go on this journey with you and that

Speaker:

oftentimes, not all the time, of course, but that oftentimes creates

Speaker:

some forward momentum for men to, to want to get on that journey.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I think that creates a level of

Speaker:

uncomfortable, just an uncomfortable state because when you open yourself up

Speaker:

to other people, exposing some or shining some light on areas where you might know,

Speaker:

Hey, I might, but then all of a sudden it gets real when someone speaks that.

Speaker:

to you and it's like you can't really hide from that.

Speaker:

So I think that it's like you were saying that people tend to want to

Speaker:

find solutions when they're in pain.

Speaker:

if they're experiencing something, I want to alleviate this in some way.

Speaker:

and you're almost doing that when you open yourself up like that.

Speaker:

It's not necessarily pain, but it may be a little painful to hear somebody

Speaker:

tell you that you're not great.

Speaker:

You don't get the social media, like thumbs up, a smile emoji, and

Speaker:

they're like being honest with you out of love, and it's like, ah, okay.

Speaker:

So it's almost like a, it's like a little bit of that in, in increasing a

Speaker:

little bit of level and uncomfortable, to hopefully generate some movements.

Speaker:

I like that.

Speaker:

I like that surveying some peers and seeing areas that need to work on.

Speaker:

Need to work on it.

Speaker:

You can engage with other people.

Speaker:

I would love to hear what your experience with unravel.

Speaker:

Tell us how, because you're going from investment bank.

Speaker:

Tell us the, the genesis of unravel cause the, and the group and like what

Speaker:

it's all about and how you guys partner with men to help them in their journey.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Speaker:

So it, it became as this outcrop, as I mentioned earlier, of these years

Speaker:

of being in groups and what I like, not like what are my friends like

Speaker:

and not like, and what I discovered is that men in general want to feel

Speaker:

like they have accomplished something

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: creates

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: growth, not feel like it's

Speaker:

just always a hangout session.

Speaker:

So unravel his is built around first, the core of it is a year long, once a month,

Speaker:

three hour, time to meet in a group, but most of the work is done outside of that.

Speaker:

So we have not only curated books that men read, but there are other, exercises,

Speaker:

other principles, other ways they engage with the content throughout that year.

Speaker:

And when they come together once a month, there's a real strong intentionality

Speaker:

about what they've discovered.

Speaker:

that last month.

Speaker:

So that, that full 12 month is built around a number of

Speaker:

principles that ultimately feed into pursuit of excellence,

Speaker:

leadership, and vision casting.

Speaker:

Right, to have more clarity about where you're going in life and, and if you

Speaker:

haven't been clear on that, to create at least some understanding and begin

Speaker:

to think more about having greater clarity for the direction in your life.

Speaker:

So that's part, that's part one, this 12 month environment.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: have part two.

Speaker:

It's not obligatory, but from minute one to it's a six month.

Speaker:

leadership oriented.

Speaker:

That's all built around leadership oriented again once a month, three hours.

Speaker:

And then lastly, there's Unravel 3, which is a long term environment

Speaker:

that's built around, it's modeled after the Inklings, which was C.

Speaker:

S.

Speaker:

Lewis and J.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: they used to have, where they would

Speaker:

meet weekly and critique each other's works and encourage and challenge.

Speaker:

And

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: that to be able to have a long term group where

Speaker:

you can have tough conversations, but have the tools to do it in a healthy way.

Speaker:

And then the last thing we've done, recognizing it's a big commitment

Speaker:

to say, I'm going to meet once a month for a year and I'm going to

Speaker:

have work to do outside of that.

Speaker:

So we have a couple of on ramps that are easier for men.

Speaker:

one is free.

Speaker:

It's called Unravel Go.

Speaker:

It's a six.

Speaker:

self paced, independent, you do it by yourself, content.

Speaker:

And then we have unravel labs, which we have two courses in that

Speaker:

again, which are self paced that are succession oriented, type of

Speaker:

environment where men can say, Oh, wow.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

I did make some progress in this time.

Speaker:

Now I want more of this.

Speaker:

In fact, we created a page just for your group to be able to participate in those

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Nice.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: called unravelgroups.

Speaker:

com forward slash 10 percent spelled

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: So the two

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Great.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: out.

Speaker:

So men go to that, listeners, they can click that and they can see,

Speaker:

okay, here's a quick to take a small step, a medium step or big

Speaker:

step in, in that growth journey.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: And that's awesome.

Speaker:

we'll put that in the show notes for sure.

Speaker:

I loved what you said at the beginning on that, that first stage is that you really

Speaker:

help men craft a vision for their life.

Speaker:

tell me if we have some listeners and they're feeling stuck because

Speaker:

you used to use the buzzword.

Speaker:

We didn't talk about this before the show, but you were dropping it, man.

Speaker:

I, we, the whole first, Quarter of the book move is all about

Speaker:

clarity and finding clarity.

Speaker:

And you've used that word a couple of times.

Speaker:

So that's a hot button topic for us.

Speaker:

we love that word and what it means and how to get more of it.

Speaker:

If you need it, you need more of it.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

And so,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah,

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: what would you, what advice would

Speaker:

you give listeners who feel like they're stuck and they don't have a

Speaker:

vision for their life and they really don't have an idea of What, how do

Speaker:

I even get a vision for my life?

Speaker:

what does that even mean?

Speaker:

So unpack that idea for us.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah, I love it.

Speaker:

and I did the parts of your book that the part of your book

Speaker:

that I've had a chance to read.

Speaker:

I saw that share.

Speaker:

There's a lot of shared themes in your book and what unravel is about as well.

Speaker:

And clarity is one of those.

Speaker:

And it's one of those things that like, if you're just sitting there

Speaker:

going, what's vision for my life?

Speaker:

What can that look like?

Speaker:

What can it be?

Speaker:

It's hard to just manufacture that thought yourself.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: And

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: on the flip side, in today's world,

Speaker:

There are endless resources for that.

Speaker:

we're bombarded with, whether it be Instagram posts or social media or, Google

Speaker:

algorithm feeding us things that can feed it and it can become overwhelming.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Unravel, you will end Unravel

Speaker:

with a clear vision statement.

Speaker:

Like you've never had before.

Speaker:

it is a clear vision statement that then will inform how you live your life.

Speaker:

And then we say, if it's not informing it, then You clearly need to modify it

Speaker:

because you don't really believe in it.

Speaker:

So it's an iterative process of course, but for men that don't have access to

Speaker:

something like that or we're just sitting there thinking what could be a next step.

Speaker:

I go back to my thing earlier, you've heard the saying before, if you walk

Speaker:

with wise people, you grow wise.

Speaker:

So identify people around you in your life.

Speaker:

who you think, who who are moving the ball down the field, they're

Speaker:

making progress and serving.

Speaker:

Hey, how have you come up with a vision casting in your life?

Speaker:

What resources have you used?

Speaker:

What have you gone to?

Speaker:

of course, I can, I could personally recommend great books and, and

Speaker:

that's what I encourage people to do is just a simple starting point.

Speaker:

Ask people that you admire, how do they do that?

Speaker:

And you'll get a very sort of disparate set of answers.

Speaker:

That's fine.

Speaker:

There's

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: way to do it.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: lands and resonates with you so that

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: take a first step.

Speaker:

And then again, just believe so strongly if you do that in the context with

Speaker:

other men, you're, you have a much more likelihood of making progress.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I love that.

Speaker:

And that's just really great.

Speaker:

That's really great advice.

Speaker:

And funny enough, we talk about it, like you said, in our, in the way we

Speaker:

say it in move is, and it's, it's been a while that move came out in 2018.

Speaker:

It's been so long since I've thought about that.

Speaker:

So it's really, this is great refresher, just talking to you about it because

Speaker:

it's bringing all this stuff back up.

Speaker:

I'm like, I need to talk about this more, the idea is, When we're going

Speaker:

after clarity, it's, if you think about a clarity of a photograph,

Speaker:

you think you need three things.

Speaker:

You need light, focus, and frame, And so, the light is a picture.

Speaker:

You need to illuminate that picture in your life.

Speaker:

So we're saying, what is it?

Speaker:

Like you just said, it's what resonates.

Speaker:

Like when someone says something to you, you go, Ooh, and it's not resonate in.

Speaker:

It's not resonate like, Oh, I want to be a billionaire, win the lottery

Speaker:

and just spend a bunch of money.

Speaker:

That's not,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: right,

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: not what we're talking about.

Speaker:

that's, it's something deeper.

Speaker:

It's something more lasting.

Speaker:

And it's something that when you sit back, there's this feeling

Speaker:

like, oh, I am made of this.

Speaker:

we are.

Speaker:

We're staunch proponents that we're all made with a purpose

Speaker:

and we're, it's given to us.

Speaker:

We got to figure out what that is.

Speaker:

And so it's there.

Speaker:

We just got to see what resonates.

Speaker:

And so that light is that part.

Speaker:

And then, the focus is like you said, you're meeting with people that are in

Speaker:

your family, that are wise, that are.

Speaker:

That are, that have vision that they're chasing and you're

Speaker:

understanding what they're doing.

Speaker:

And it gives us the ability to hone in.

Speaker:

So the lights there, maybe we know if it's mountains or the beach, but

Speaker:

we don't really have the details, and then we start honing out those

Speaker:

details, we start getting more clarity.

Speaker:

So we got the general picture and then we're moving down with focus.

Speaker:

And then I think to your point, it's running towards something.

Speaker:

And at that point, it's the frame.

Speaker:

It's what frame of reference am I going to run at that?

Speaker:

This vision with, and that's what you started with when you said, we're looking

Speaker:

for progress, we're not looking for perfection, and am I going to run with

Speaker:

a glass half empty or glass half full?

Speaker:

So, so those are the things that when I think about clarity for

Speaker:

people that feel stuck, it is absolutely possible to gain clarity.

Speaker:

Like you said, you can go through unravel and come out with a really

Speaker:

tight, solid vision statement for your life, which is really great because.

Speaker:

We're firm believers in that in the last 10 percent because how do you live in the

Speaker:

last 10 percent if you don't even know what that looks like for you, because

Speaker:

everybody has a different last 10%.

Speaker:

Now you can live with excellence, but if you can't even define

Speaker:

what that is in your life,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: way to live in the last 10%.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: That's

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: So I very encouraged that you guys help men

Speaker:

come up with vision statements because that clarity helps them understand.

Speaker:

Cause everything flows out of that.

Speaker:

when you're thinking like, should I get married or should I move across

Speaker:

the country or should I have kids?

Speaker:

Or should I go for this promotion?

Speaker:

Or what kind of work should I do?

Speaker:

what kind of clarity do you have around who you're supposed to be and

Speaker:

who you're supposed to be becoming?

Speaker:

And so I think that's, that if you can nail that down, then it gives

Speaker:

you the ability to take steps towards it, which is just super encouraging.

Speaker:

And that's what gets you out of all the ruts.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: and from an a hijack

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: I love that man.

Speaker:

that is great.

Speaker:

It

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: it in a creates a good visual

Speaker:

representation of what needs to occur.

Speaker:

as you're striving to achieve clarity.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: That's right.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: a lot.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: That's right.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's, this is really great.

Speaker:

And it's, and I love your approach with that.

Speaker:

And I love how you are very passionate about that with men.

Speaker:

Now let's talk about this, because you've had to deal with some

Speaker:

issues in terms of pain yourself.

Speaker:

And you've had, you've mentioned it earlier in the show.

Speaker:

you've had multiple back surgeries, had some back pain.

Speaker:

So tell us about that experience and what that's been like for

Speaker:

you and how that's affected you.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: thanks for asking because I'm even in this

Speaker:

season of my life of since 2009 when it first started, I'm still learning

Speaker:

ways to talk about it in ways that are meaningful because All of us feel like

Speaker:

whatever pain we have is the worst, right?

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: of

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: yeah,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: to us and it's hard.

Speaker:

Whatever the pain we're experiencing is and everyone has pain in their life.

Speaker:

But for

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: in 2009 I was playing racquetball one

Speaker:

day and went to make a shot and then.

Speaker:

Suddenly I could barely move and long story short, I spent the next two years

Speaker:

trying to avoid back surgery and then ultimately had My first back surgery

Speaker:

in 2011, which was a fusion surgery.

Speaker:

And every, ever since that season of life prior to the surgery and post surgery,

Speaker:

I've had 24 seven pain in my right leg.

Speaker:

It hasn't

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Ah,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: a second fusion surgery in 2016.

Speaker:

I had a third back surgery in 2020.

Speaker:

it's

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: my,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: matter of time before I have to have the next one.

Speaker:

And it's interesting because there's so much from that

Speaker:

Dallas that I've learned from.

Speaker:

And it's probably just been in the last probably maybe three years that

Speaker:

I've been able to view it I think with a more mature lens because prior to

Speaker:

that man I love sports and water skiing and racquetball and tennis and snow

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: yeah,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: And I love those things and then suddenly I was

Speaker:

not able to do any of those Thankfully I can walk and I walk I'm able to walk

Speaker:

You know every day I can't really walk hills or anything like that But I can at

Speaker:

least walk and I'm so grateful for that.

Speaker:

But

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: on it was of course.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh I can't believe this.

Speaker:

I can't do things.

Speaker:

I love to do anymore You know

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm, ah,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: was me kind of thing and that's real and

Speaker:

authentic and sure that's fine Those are all natural things to experience

Speaker:

and then as I begin to realize slowly But surely that I was replacing

Speaker:

that time with much more purposeful Things that made a difference for

Speaker:

not just today, but for eternity.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: I really began to get to a point where

Speaker:

I was like, man, suddenly it dawned on me one day, a few years ago,

Speaker:

and that this, there's actually a lot of good that came out of this,

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: only in, in ways that I could refocus my

Speaker:

time, but if I'm being transparent, Dallas, it made me a much humbler person

Speaker:

because prior to that, I was one of those people that, you're hurt, you're

Speaker:

fine, or you're in pain, you're fine, get up, just, you'll be fine, just get

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Rub some dirt on it, you

Speaker:

know, you'll be alright.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: on it, man, yeah, quit complaining, you'll

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: That's right.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: whatever.

Speaker:

man, once you get to a point in your life where there's just a small,

Speaker:

tiny step between you and that

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: not doing anything, you suddenly

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: yes,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Ah, wait a minute.

Speaker:

I'm not all that I thought I was.

Speaker:

And man, you

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: a lot of notches.

Speaker:

So, and I'm still learning to be, I'm still learning more humility, but

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: been a huge, huge.

Speaker:

development in my life in many regards, but certainly humility and, and patience.

Speaker:

I'll never be long on that.

Speaker:

That's still a major weak spot of mine is patience for sure, but learning to do to

Speaker:

deliver that more and then being grateful.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: mm,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: I'd love the pain to be gone today.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: sure.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: never will be.

Speaker:

And at the same time, I know that it's, in many ways it's been a

Speaker:

blessing for me because it's allowed me to repurpose time and spend it

Speaker:

on things that, are more valuable.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah, so I just love that how you

Speaker:

describe that because I know if we have with the number of listeners we have, we

Speaker:

definitely have a lot of listeners that are going through some type of pain.

Speaker:

It may be physical, it may be emotional, it may be relational.

Speaker:

It doesn't, it could be any kind of area of your life that you're

Speaker:

going and dealing with the pain.

Speaker:

But I think that some of the things that you're saying is universal.

Speaker:

Number one, it is.

Speaker:

It is natural to get frustrated when we are in a position of pain and we're

Speaker:

just suffering and it just, it stinks.

Speaker:

It is what it is and it's a normal human thing to respond in that way.

Speaker:

But I like how you talked about the process of, Moving through this

Speaker:

pain and how you dealt with that.

Speaker:

And I loved how in the beginning you started realizing like, wow, I'm starting

Speaker:

sense.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: that, that some of the things I

Speaker:

was doing when I wasn't in pain.

Speaker:

Actually were less important than some of the things I'm doing now.

Speaker:

What, because I've had to trade it out because I can't do all these other

Speaker:

activities and I think that's a, such a great way to repurpose, just, it's

Speaker:

just okay, I'm repurposing my time to something greater and something

Speaker:

that I've lost now is going to do.

Speaker:

And I think we had a guest on Tyran Jackson.

Speaker:

He was one of the early shows.

Speaker:

It was probably in the first 10 episodes, but he had lost his.

Speaker:

He had lost a lot.

Speaker:

He lost his leg in a horrific boating accident and his wife at the same

Speaker:

time, it was an explosion on a boat.

Speaker:

It wasn't anything their fault.

Speaker:

And so, he talks about resiliency a lot.

Speaker:

And one of the things I remember him saying was, it's not trying

Speaker:

to get back what you lost.

Speaker:

It's trying to make what you have, make, remake what you have to make it great.

Speaker:

And I was just like, man, what an amazing person.

Speaker:

Yeah, powerful statement.

Speaker:

It's exactly what you were describing in saying, I'm remaking this time and

Speaker:

I make I'm remaking this time that I have into something more purposeful.

Speaker:

And I love also how you got to the point where you can say, where in the beginning

Speaker:

you were saying, I can't do this.

Speaker:

I can't do that.

Speaker:

I can't do this.

Speaker:

And now you're like, I am so grateful that I can walk every day and man, the

Speaker:

attitude of gratitude just spills through in spite of the fact that there was

Speaker:

some loss that you have, you had some activities you were enjoying and now

Speaker:

you're not able to do them, but you're able to do the things and your focus

Speaker:

in this season, you've repurposed and refocused and your focus is on gratitude.

Speaker:

And I think That has to be encouraging.

Speaker:

I hope if you're listening that you can hear Mark's story and his words

Speaker:

on that's this wise words about how to move through pain, with grace.

Speaker:

if that's,

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: move through pain gracefully.

Speaker:

It doesn't mean it doesn't stink and that you wouldn't like

Speaker:

to go and snow ski again, but

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: And,

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: you can move through.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Speaker:

And to add to that, I was thinking as you were talking, I was remembering

Speaker:

a conversation I had with a mentor of mine who, had a business partner that

Speaker:

passed away from ALS a few years ago.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Ah.

Speaker:

Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: when I would be with him, I was,

Speaker:

I would feel like I wouldn't even want to talk about my pain.

Speaker:

It felt so small.

Speaker:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Speaker:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: to his pain.

Speaker:

And then I remember I was talking to this friend of mine who's a mentor one time.

Speaker:

And so again, sometimes I feel, I don't know how to talk about it in

Speaker:

a way that feels like I just don't know how to talk about the way.

Speaker:

And he made a great comment.

Speaker:

He goes, Mark, that's your pain.

Dallas Burnett:

Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: it's difficult.

Dallas Burnett:

It doesn't, you're not comparing it to other people's pain.

Dallas Burnett:

And I'm, I love the way you're encouraging your listeners.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: you have pain, all of us have pain.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: in different ways.

Dallas Burnett:

And,

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: the more that you can lean into that, the

Dallas Burnett:

more that you can grapple with it,

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes,

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: going to set you up for,

Dallas Burnett:

success down the road for sure.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I think especially for leaders.

Dallas Burnett:

Especially for leaders, because we, and we say this often, you can't give

Dallas Burnett:

what you don't have, but if you're in pain, I had one time I was speaking

Dallas Burnett:

at a conference and it was, uh, we were talking, it was on burnout it

Dallas Burnett:

was a room full of business owners and I'd asked them, are you burnout?

Dallas Burnett:

And like half the room raised their hand.

Dallas Burnett:

Actively right now, I'm completely frazzled, burnt out.

Dallas Burnett:

And then I said, we got into a panel discussion.

Dallas Burnett:

Then they, somebody asked, they said, I thought they were going to ask me

Dallas Burnett:

about burnout, but they said, you said something during burnout, and

Dallas Burnett:

I'm afraid that I'm a victim of that.

Dallas Burnett:

I said, what are you a victim of?

Dallas Burnett:

They said, you can't give what you don't have, but you do give what you do have.

Dallas Burnett:

They said, we're burnout, and I'm almost 100 percent positive that I have

Dallas Burnett:

created that in my employees, my team.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Oh,

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I have taken that from myself, and

Dallas Burnett:

I've just, Added that to them and I've created an environment that's

Dallas Burnett:

really stressing everybody out.

Dallas Burnett:

And I think that's so powerful, but if you're in pain, one of the

Dallas Burnett:

reasons you want to move through it gracefully is because if you're leading

Dallas Burnett:

people, that is going to spill over.

Dallas Burnett:

And if you are

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: said.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: bitter and so angry that you've lost this,

Dallas Burnett:

or you can't have that, or you don't, Then that is what you're bringing to the

Dallas Burnett:

table and that's what people are going to experience from you And so being able

Dallas Burnett:

to move through that gracefully like you described and get to the other side It's

Dallas Burnett:

not saying that things you don't have bad days and nobody's saying nobody's perfect

Dallas Burnett:

But it's progressing through that and being honest with people about It just

Dallas Burnett:

I think as leaders you will gain so much more respect As you're leading people

Dallas Burnett:

through Your season and or your pain.

Dallas Burnett:

I think that is just so important for leaders.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

Well said.

Dallas Burnett:

I love that.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: All right, so let's talk a little

Dallas Burnett:

bit about Let's talk a little bit about some of your experiences.

Dallas Burnett:

Have you've got some, stories in terms of men's transformational?

Dallas Burnett:

You don't have to be specific, but have you had some stories with unravel that

Dallas Burnett:

you'd like to share anything in terms of some of the progress that you've seen men

Dallas Burnett:

make in their transformational process?

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

and I'm so glad you asked that because I love being reminded of how

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Mm hmm.

Dallas Burnett:

Hmm.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: other side of hearing these stories.

Dallas Burnett:

and you hear him to Dallas with the work you're doing.

Dallas Burnett:

It's just, it's so life giving man to hear stories of men and

Dallas Burnett:

how their lives have been changed.

Dallas Burnett:

I mean, whether it be conquering addictions, whether it be

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: becoming a better father, a

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: a better friend, a better leader, a better look at

Dallas Burnett:

one of the things I'm passionate about is men of faith in the workplace oftentimes

Dallas Burnett:

don't have a reputation of excellence.

Dallas Burnett:

And that drives me

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Hmm.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: because if you're a person of faith

Dallas Burnett:

in the workplace, people should be so drawn to you because of the work that

Dallas Burnett:

you do, regardless of what it is, it should be so top notch and so excellent.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: man, what drives you to be

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: like that?

Dallas Burnett:

What's behind that?

Dallas Burnett:

So that you get a chance to talk about your

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

Um, um, um,

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: being the best they can be in their vocation.

Dallas Burnett:

whatever it is.

Dallas Burnett:

Another really cool thing that I never, and it seems, I guess it's obvious.

Dallas Burnett:

I just didn't think about it early on is you wouldn't believe

Dallas Burnett:

the number of stories we get in testimonials from wives, girlfriends,

Dallas Burnett:

siblings, friends who are going.

Dallas Burnett:

is the difference I see in my husband now and my boyfriend

Dallas Burnett:

and my brother and my friend.

Dallas Burnett:

It, that's been really cool to hear that side as well because you realize,

Dallas Burnett:

with all the work that you do, that it's not just one person who's being

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I don't know.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: It

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah,

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: a

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: ripple.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: range of people, you know,

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Um,

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: that's occurring.

Dallas Burnett:

So

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: um,

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: part is so gratifying.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: I love that.

Dallas Burnett:

I think that's really powerful.

Dallas Burnett:

and I do think that's interesting.

Dallas Burnett:

Your perspective on the men of faith in occupations may

Dallas Burnett:

not be known for excellence.

Dallas Burnett:

Now, I think that's a, I think that's a valid, critique and I

Dallas Burnett:

think it's something that we.

Dallas Burnett:

as men in general, and in particular, as men of faith should be very aware

Dallas Burnett:

of, especially men of faith, if you are working with purpose, I almost feel like

Dallas Burnett:

if it goes back to what we were talking about earlier, if you can't be excellent

Dallas Burnett:

at your job, live in the last 10%, then especially if you are espousing a faith,

Dallas Burnett:

And working for something greater than yourself, then there is a serious lack

Dallas Burnett:

of purpose or clarity about that purpose and why you're doing what you're doing.

Dallas Burnett:

Because if you really grasp that and you really know this is what I'm made

Dallas Burnett:

to do, and this is why I'm doing it, it becomes really hard to do shoddy work.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Right.

Dallas Burnett:

Yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

It's so true.

Dallas Burnett:

So true.

Dallas Burnett:

It really does.

Dallas Burnett:

And then people ask you, Hey, what's behind that?

Dallas Burnett:

And you get to share, Hey, there's a vision, you know, a purpose that

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: which then leads to greater and

Dallas Burnett:

more life giving conversation.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: A hundred percent.

Dallas Burnett:

A hundred percent.

Dallas Burnett:

Well, this has been fantastic.

Dallas Burnett:

Thank you, Mark, for coming on the show, for being a part of this and

Dallas Burnett:

just telling us about your story, how you have created this ability to have

Dallas Burnett:

men get together so they can transform their lives, both personally and

Dallas Burnett:

professionally, how you have worked through and Gracefully moved through

Dallas Burnett:

pain and how you've come out the other side with this attitude of gratitude.

Dallas Burnett:

I really think our listeners enjoyed that.

Dallas Burnett:

Thank you for sharing your wisdom on that.

Dallas Burnett:

Now we always ask guests on the last 10 percent to share if they have a person

Dallas Burnett:

that they would like to hear on the show.

Dallas Burnett:

So, is there anyone that comes to mind that you would like to

Dallas Burnett:

hear as a guest on the last 10%?

Dallas Burnett:

Yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

Yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: and I've grown, I've learned and

Dallas Burnett:

certainly hijacking some things I've learned from time together today.

Dallas Burnett:

So,

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Use it.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

So thank you.

Dallas Burnett:

there's so many people when I think about interesting people in so many different

Dallas Burnett:

walks of life, that have impacted my life.

Dallas Burnett:

that I would say it's one person that I think could be very interesting to have

Dallas Burnett:

on your podcast is someone who's been a spiritual mentor of mine in the past,

Dallas Burnett:

but who is a really creative thinker.

Dallas Burnett:

is a guy named Ken Boa.

Dallas Burnett:

I don't know if you're familiar with Ken or

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Ah, Furkin, yeah, Furkin, yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: when back in your Atlanta days, he's

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yes.

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: Atlanta.

Dallas Burnett:

You may have run across him or at least his

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: Yeah.

Dallas Burnett:

Ooh,

Dallas Burnett:

mark-jordan_1_05-30-2024_151659: wonderful, critical, creative thinker

Dallas Burnett:

who has a really gift to stimulate your thinking aspects of your life that

Dallas Burnett:

you've just haven't contemplated and for in ways you haven't contemplating.

Dallas Burnett:

So that would be certainly one person I would recommend.

Dallas Burnett:

dallas-burnett_15_05-30-2024_181701: that's awesome.

Dallas Burnett:

That's very good.

Dallas Burnett:

I've, I need to, we'll have to dig in and see if we can reach out to Ken

Dallas Burnett:

and see that sounds like someone we would enjoy having on the last 10%.

Dallas Burnett:

So that is awesome.

Dallas Burnett:

Thank you for that recommendation.

Dallas Burnett:

we'll reach out to Ken and see if we can get him on the show.

Dallas Burnett:

See you.

Dallas Burnett:

So, listen, Mark, thank you again for being on the last 10%.

Dallas Burnett:

Thank you for all you do for men, for helping walk with men

Dallas Burnett:

through their journeys in life and transform their lives.

Dallas Burnett:

We are appreciative to you for that.
