The onboarding time is the most important time for a new employee.

For him/her, yes.

But even more for you, the manager.

After all, what do you really know about this person?

Not much I can guess.

So why waste this valuable time in the beginning?

Without spending more than an hour or two.

You can know most of what you need to know about the new hire.

Not relying on hearsay or stories from others.

Though those are useful too.

But from your interactions with him/her.

You just need to set things up right.
