Shownotes

Juliet Mayhew is back — and this time, we’re getting a little cheeky.

The Real Housewives of London star returns to The Iconic Midlife for a very British game of “Posh or Tosh?” — where Roxy gives Juliet a series of questionable social behaviors, friendship dilemmas and Housewives-worthy situations, and Juliet has to decide: perfectly posh… or absolute tosh?

We’re talking frenemies, keeping receipts, cosmetic secrets, red-carpet etiquette, telling uncomfortable truths on camera, marriage, ambition — and yes, even social climbing.

And Juliet definitely has opinions.

If you haven’t heard Roxy’s full conversation with Juliet yet, download Tuesday’s episode, where they get candid about The Real Housewives of London, reinventing yourself at 49, marriage and motherhood, being misunderstood, returning to performing and why women don’t need permission to decide it’s finally their turn.

Download this episode, subscribe to The Iconic Midlife, and follow the show so you never miss a new conversation or game. And if Juliet’s answers make you laugh — or you strongly disagree with one of them — send the episode to a friend and see whether she thinks it’s posh or tosh.

Transcripts

Roxy Manning:

The name of the game is Posh or Tosh.

Ooh, it's posh.

It's fabulous.

Acceptable.

Juliet Mayhew:

That is Tosh.

Tish tosh.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, it's like rubbish calling someone darling when you absolutely cannot stand them.

Juliet Mayhew:

I don't think it's posh.

I think it's clever.

I don't think it's a classy thing to do.

It's a clever thing to do.

Roxy Manning:

What's your favorite tweet?

Juliet Mayhew:

Well, at the moment, collagen injections are fantastic.

I don't know if you can have all these things in America, but we do a lot of salmon sperm peptides.

Roxy Manning:

Is the new thing at 49 becoming louder, more ambitious and more visible instead of gracefully fading into the background.

Juliet Mayhew:

Sure, it's totally posh.

Cuz that's totally me.

Honey, you are cool.

To your best life and claim it, live it, do it.

That's what I say.

Definitely not Tosh.

That means I have to fade away.

I'm not fading anywhere.

I'm just getting started.

Roxy Manning:

Before the guest leaves, we usually play a game if you're up for it.

Juliet Mayhew:

I'm up for games.

You know I love a game.

Roxy Manning:

Okay, okay.

I'm excited for this one.

Okay.

This one was written with you, especially in mine.

Juliet Mayhew:

Okay.

Roxy Manning:

The name of the game is Posh or Tosh.

Ooh, it's if it's posh, it's fabulous.

Acceptable.

Juliet Mayhew:

And is Tosh.

Tish.

Tosh.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, it's like rubbish.

Oh, okay.

Juliet Mayhew:

Tosh.

Rubbish.

Roxy Manning:

Yes, yes.

So I will read the scenario to you and you tell me what you think.

Okay, here we go.

Calling someone darling when you absolutely cannot stand them.

Posh or tosh,.

Juliet Mayhew:

That's difficult for me.

I don't think it's posh.

I think it's clever.

So I don't think it's a classy thing to do.

It's a clever thing to do.

So maybe, you know, let's put it in the tosh.

Roxy Manning:

You're like, that goes into the tosh bin.

Okay?

Forgiving a friend, but keeping the receipts just in case.

Posh or Tosh.

Juliet Mayhew:

Again, I think it's tosh.

Because if you forgive, you've got to let go.

Roxy Manning:

Okay, and are you good about that?

Like, can you really let go if you forgive?

Juliet Mayhew:

If I've forgiven, yes.

Because I think that you've got to give forgiveness is, and I think I even said this in my reunion is I'm sorry, I won't do it again.

Then that is stopped.

You reference it if someone's hurt you and you think, okay, there's a bit of a boundary and trust has to be earned.

But you don't, like, dig it up and dig it up and dig it up.

Where's that gonna go?

That's not gonna.

Nothing can thrive from that.

Right.

You just gotta think about your children.

You have to forgive them unconditionally.

Roxy Manning:

Oh, every day.

Juliet Mayhew:

Every day.

Roxy Manning:

Every freaking day.

Yes.

Juliet Mayhew:

And they will say some pretty cutting things.

Roxy Manning:

Right.

Juliet Mayhew:

And you still have to forgive them because you're their mama.

Roxy Manning:

Yes.

And you're like, okay, tough, tough skin.

Juliet Mayhew:

And you know they're only going to say it to you because they love you, right?

Apparently, that's what they say.

Yeah.

Roxy Manning:

We will see.

Juliet Mayhew:

Yeah.

Roxy Manning:

A hostess secretly googling the price of wine her guest brought.

Juliet Mayhew:

Oh, my gosh.

That's.

That's definitely Tosh, right?

Who does that?

That's really.

It's like googling people.

Yes.

I mean, who does that?

That is like the lowest class thing to do.

Like, because then you're, like, trying to categorize people.

Like, do I give them attention or not give them attention?

For me, that's like absolute social climbing.

Yes.

Roxy Manning:

That's a no.

No.

Going to the same cosmetic doctor as your frenemy and refusing to tell her what you had done.

Posh or tosh?

Juliet Mayhew:

That's tosh.

Roxy Manning:

Like, just say it.

Juliet Mayhew:

Just say it.

Like, I'm very open about my treatments.

Roxy Manning:

Okay.

What.

What's your favorite treatment?

Juliet Mayhew:

Tweakman or treatment.

Roxy Manning:

Oh, tweak med.

I like that.

Okay, what's your favorite tweak?

Juliet Mayhew:

Well, at the moment, collagen injections are fantastic.

Yeah, yeah.

I'm learning the game.

Roxy Manning:

Sorry, I'm, like, so interested.

I'm like, what do I need to.

I need to, like.

Because I feel like I want to start incorporating newer things.

So tell me.

Juliet Mayhew:

So I've got a great doctor and, you know, she is constantly like, I don't know if you can have all these things in America, but we do a lot of salmon.

Sperm peptides is the new thing.

Collagen injections.

I take my collagen every morning.

My vitamin C. Like, I'm intentional about making sure that I continue a glow up.

Roxy Manning:

Okay.

That is really good.

Because why shouldn't you be?

Juliet Mayhew:

And I eat well.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, exactly, exactly.

Juliet Mayhew:

You turn into too much sugar.

Roxy Manning:

No, that's good.

That's good.

Well, if you feel.

I feel like you look good.

You feel good.

It all ties in together, you know?

It all does.

Knowing exactly where everyone is seated at dinner before deciding whether you're going or not.

Juliet Mayhew:

Oh, that's tosh.

A lady doesn't do that.

Roxy Manning:

You go and you enjoy wherever you're.

Juliet Mayhew:

Sitting and you make the best of it.

And I always think that they were there for a reason and that wherever you've been sat, there is a reason behind it.

I have been known to move a placement once, which was.

Goes against the grain of everything, I believe.

But I was sat next to a woman that had publicly slated me, knowing nothing about my family and, you know, was vile.

And I just thought, I cannot do this.

I just need to have a little bit of space.

That was for my own sanity.

And I think the hostess understood in the end.

She was, like, apologetic that she'd actually put me there, but I was just trying to keep it.

I didn't want to bring any drama into the scenario.

I wouldn't anyway, but it was just an uncomfortable scenario.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, you have to do things for your mental health.

Juliet Mayhew:

There's a mental health move, right?

Roxy Manning:

You're like, that's a mental health.

Juliet Mayhew:

If it would have been a Bucky in Palace, I wouldn't never have done it.

But it wasn't.

So I did.

Roxy Manning:

You're like, it was done.

Okay.

A friend telling you an uncomfortable truth about yourself on camera instead of in private.

Posh or Tosh?

Juliet Mayhew:

Well, you know, that's part of the course with housewives, because they.

They want to see that.

So I don't think I would never do that in public.

I think that's totally tosh.

But I'm doing a TV show where that makes good tv, so I'm not going to hold it against them.

I personally don't try and embarrass people.

I could, but I don't, because my intention is not to hurt people.

So, you know, but each to their own.

You know, people get a kick out of it.

So what can I say?

Roxy Manning:

What can you say?

You're making TV, right?

Juliet Mayhew:

Makes good TV.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, there you go.

There you go.

After 20 years of friendship, deciding one small, spectacular argument is enough to end it.

Posh or Tosh?

Juliet Mayhew:

You know what?

I think that's tosh, because I think if you've had a spectacular friendship for 20 years, you can work it out.

However, I do not personally know.

I've some catastrophic circumstances that has ended a friendship overnight.

And those things will be, you know, I don't know, marriage, breakup or, you know, a deep lie or, you know, these things do happen.

So I think it's circumstantial, but I would always say give people the benefit of the doubt and try and Work it out first.

Forgiveness is everything.

Right?

And we're far from perfect.

Look at me.

I'm like, got so many flaws and, you know, I mess up and I hurt people and I've.

I've got to like, own it and say sorry and move forward.

And if.

What if they don't give me a second chance?

Mort, if it's me that's messed up, I would be really.

I've lost someone in my life.

That's a grievance.

I don't want a grievance.

I'm like, very loyal and want my,.

Roxy Manning:

You know, your people.

My own people.

Yes, I agree.

Juliet Mayhew:

Make me who I am.

Roxy Manning:

Yes, it's true.

Juliet Mayhew:

And they do call out my flaws and I'm accountable to them and that's important and that's why we are friends.

But if they stole my husband, that'd be a big thing.

That would end a friendship.

That would end a friendship.

They would never manage to do that because they would never win.

But I'm just saying that would be a kind of thing that would end a friendship.

Right.

Roxy Manning:

That would be definitely a deal breaker.

That's.

Juliet Mayhew:

Yeah.

Roxy Manning:

There's really no going back to that.

No.

You know.

Yeah.

Juliet Mayhew:

No.

Although I would have to find a way of forgiving them for your own.

Roxy Manning:

Mental health, though, not because you wanted to be a friend to them again.

Juliet Mayhew:

You just have to.

I would have to, like, yeah.

Can you imagine carrying that?

And that's how people get ill.

They can't let go.

Correct.

I totally believe that.

Bitterness eats you away from the inside out.

Roxy Manning:

Letting your husband know only the edited highlights of the girls trip.

Posh or tosh?

Juliet Mayhew:

I would say it's posh because she doesn't need to know the nitty gritty.

Why would I upset him intentionally?

Like, I think you are wise.

If I need to discuss something, I will.

But he doesn't need to know, like all the details of like she said, he said, I want to talk to him about important stuff and tittle tattle and upset and drama is.

It's like, honey, really?

Can we just like talk about important things like us and our future and our children and work like that we're doing together, building our life.

Like, he's like, I. I'm really not interested in their cat fights unless I need like some therapy from him.

But I have girlfriends that I can thrash that out with.

He doesn't need to go through all those details.

Roxy Manning:

Right.

And they get so bored.

They get so bored.

Yes.

They're just like.

Juliet Mayhew:

It's like, kiss.

Keep it Simple.

Stupid.

Do you know what I mean?

My favorite Akrom.

Roxy Manning:

Oh, true.

It's so true.

Same with the husbands, okay?

At 49, becoming louder, more ambitious, and more visible instead of gracefully fading into the background.

Posh or Tosh?

Juliet Mayhew:

Posh, because that's totally me.

Honey, you are cool.

To your best life and claim it, live it, do it.

That's what I say.

Definitely not Tosh.

That means I have to fade away.

I'm not fading anywhere.

I'm just getting started.

Roxy Manning:

Yes.

100 Space.

Yes.

Yes.

Oh, Wanting to be the most interesting woman at the table and admitting it.

Posh or Tosh?

Juliet Mayhew:

See, I think, you know, I. I think that's Tosh.

Because I think you need to.

When I go into an environment, I actually find it overwhelming when people just talk at you.

And I think the whole point of conversation is to just listen and get to know people.

I don't need to be liked, and I certainly don't need to prove myself.

People can accept me or not accept me.

Doesn't change who I am.

Doesn't change where my identity is.

So, yeah, I. I think.

Why would you need to prove yourself every single time?

Like, just be comfortable.

And you also don't need to be, like, the main star every five seconds.

Like, give it to the host, give it to other people.

When you're asked, speak up.

But you don't need to dominate.

I mean, that is crass.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, that is right?

Don't you think?

Like, let other people have the spotlight.

Juliet Mayhew:

I mean, obviously, I already have the spotlight, so it's not like I need to try.

You have it.

My light is shining, so I just am being.

I'm just radiating.

What can I say?

Roxy Manning:

You're like, I've got the show, honey.

I'm good.

Oh, my God.

Juliet Mayhew:

Share the love.

Roxy Manning:

Yeah, share the love.

Exactly.

Share the love.

And I love that you are grabbing life by the horns.

Yeah, by the horns.

And just going, so.

This is going to be so exciting.

Okay, everybody, follow her.

Add Juicy Mayhew, and watch the show.

Juliet Mayhew:

Watch the show.

Roxy Manning:

September 7th.

Juliet Mayhew:

Yay.

Roxy Manning:

Yay.

Oh, my gosh.

Thank you so much, my love, for coming.

Juliet Mayhew:

Oh, my gosh.

Thank you for having me.
