# What Life Was Like Before Sin Before we can understand what sin broke, we need to slow down and look at what life was actually supposed to be. Genesis 1 and 2 describe a world that was never meant to include brokenness at all. **Made in God's Image, Placed as Ambassadors** Out of everything God made, land, water, plants, every animal, only man and woman are described as being made in his image. That image wasn't decoration. It was a job description, placing Adam and Eve on earth as a visible representation of God's rule. **Ruling Without Abusing** "Rule" doesn't mean permission to exploit. It means representing the kind of ruler God himself is. There's a real difference between using the earth's resources and abusing them, and Genesis puts Adam right in the middle of that tension from day one. **Work Existed Before the Curse** Adam had a job before there was anything to regret. The curse in Genesis 3 doesn't invent work; it makes an already-good task harder, adding thorns, thistles, and sweat to something that was designed to be worth doing. **"Not Good": Why Adam Needed a Partner** Even surrounded by a world God calls very good, one thing gets named "not good": man being alone. Eve isn't a consolation or an afterthought. She's the deliberate closing of a gap God names on purpose. **Original Righteousness: A World Without Sin's Fingerprints** Theologians describe the pre-fall state as total harmony between a person, their environment, and God, including freedom from lust, decay, death, and suffering. Adam and Eve being naked and unashamed wasn't really about comfort with nudity. It was about a kind of transparency we don't have access to anymore. What strikes me most is how backwards our assumptions run. We tend to treat brokenness as the baseline and healing as the exception, but Genesis says the opposite: goodness was the baseline, and everything we're living through now is the interruption.
