There are many facets to worship, not just singing.
There is an attitude that releases our love and adoration to our
Father, giving back to Him what we have received.
We were created by God to be His worshippers.
• Worship is much deeper than just music or singing.
The Holy Spirit is at the foundation of our worship.
• The baptism in the Holy Spirit has opened a door for us to
worship; speaking in tongues is helpful.
• The Holy Spirit teaches us how to worship in spirit and
• You focus on God and your relationship with Him, and you
will spring forth in worship.
• In our relationship with God, we are to be in an attitude of
worship, in His presence.
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in
spirit and truth.”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no
one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14 through 17
The coming and ministry of the Holy Spirit.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’, will enter the
kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who
is in heaven will enter.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather
than for men,
• Worship is more than just giving yourself in a mental ascent.
It is our spirit directly connecting with the Father.
• Worship is not a difficult thing, it is very, very simple.
Opening your heart and expressing your love for the Lord.
• It is how you see the Father; we submit or subject ourselves
to Him and to His Lordship.
In this phase of our discussion of worship, we find that it is
with the help of the Holy Spirit that lets us worship in Spirit
and in Truth and that we are not to worship from afar, but as
we are in His presence.
Allan: 0:00 Talking about some of the basics. Some of the basics if you will about a walk with God. One of the very basics is worship. Worship I think is one of the things that very much misunderstood. A lot of people believe it is music or singing. You know they think of the angles singing and how wonderful that worship is, but it goes much deeper than that.
Dale: 0:30 We’re talking about worship tonight. Worship in Spirit and in truth and that is the filling of the Holy Spirit walking in a relationship to the Holy Spirit is at the foundation of our worship. If we can have an attendance to a worship service that we were observers of. To where we set in the pew where we sang a hymn so on and so forth. There is an order that God is bringing now that worship is participation. That He is taking us from a place you might say out of the pew into His heart to where your participating on a new level. And that new level is based upon that infilling of the Holy Spirit. Where we worship in Spirit and in Truth. So, what we are looking to do is go to the scriptures, go to what we see in the Bible, how did they worship? Again, they worshiped in Spirit and in Truth. One of the keys to this worship in Spirit and in Truth is realizing that it’s a thing of the Spirit that you received with being saved. Christ came into your heart. Now the next step is you let the Holy Spirit enter your heart because that’s going to be where you will be worshiping in the Spirit. So, with those precursor remarks we can turn to the day of Pentecost. He promised the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He opened the door for us to worship in Spirit and in Truth. How do I worship: I worship by opening my Spirit, I worship by opening my heart, I worship by drawing that fresh filling of the Holy Spirit? It can be each day it can be many times a day but it a way that we walk in the basic tenants that He provided on the Cross for us to have. Because I love to tell Him that He is my Lord, I love to tell Him that He is my King. I love to tell Him that He is everything to me and I love to tell Him how much I love Him. And then I love to thank Him for everything he has given me by His grace and by His mercy. There is just an outpouring of worship. And that is just one kind of worship.
Deborah: 3:50 To me in a walk with God you’re always worshiping. Your always before the Lord. In your Spirit, in your heart you’re before the Lord. Worship is not a difficult thing it is very, very simple. Opening your heart and expressing your love for the Lord. Opening your heart and worshiping and singing you can sing, you can talk. You don’t have to sing in words but you also can do it in the Spirit and I don’t know if many of our listeners know how to do it in the Spirit. But speaking in tongues becomes a real avenue for worship because worship on a deeper level is something that we don’t want our minds to be part of deeper worship in the Spirit by just opening your heart to the Holy Spirit and asking Him to give you the worship in the Spirit. To give you words to speak in the Spirit in addition to your walk with God.
Ed: 5:10 I know many churches when we go there, singing songs is worship. Well singing songs is what gets your spirit ready to worship. It is not really worship. God wants something from YOU, not something on a page that you can just sit there and read and some people after years and years of doing the same songs they can just recite it by heart and not even THINK about what they are doing. That is not what God wants. He wants your whole spirit behind it and if you’re sitting there day dreaming about what your going to go for lunch, what are you going to do after the service is over and stuff. That is not worshiping the Lord. You have to get focused on Him and that focus and that relationship that you get with Him will spring forth into worship. But only use songs to get you to that place.
Deborah: 6:23 Develop your relationship. You can use words and music. I use it all the time. You can us it to launch yourself into a place where you have a meeting with the Lord. But don’t use it just a substitute to say I am worshiping. Oh, I know how to worship. I challenge whether you when you really know how to worship or not.
Allan: 6:50 I really like this and one of the things going back to the simplicity of worshiping in Spirit and in Truth and I think the two are really, really closely knit. And what I want to say is the scripture that says the Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the light”, and with that “no man comes to the Father but through me.” You can’t go to Him without the truth. Well He also talks in John 14 through 17 He talks about the Spirit coming. He is supposed to teach us and remind us of the truth which is Christ which is the Word, I mean it is all interconnected. I believe of worship is, it can kind a boil down to an attitude. It’s how you see the Father. We submit or subject ourselves to Him and to His Lordship. One other aspect with that, those who do the will of my Father will enter the Kingdom. So, it’s more than just giving yourself if you will in a mental accent of oh God we worship you. If he asked you to go and go to the corner and get a newspaper. If we are obedient we will go and get the newspaper. He will give you something to do if you listen and pay attention cause how can you do His will if you don’t know what it is? In the scriptures there are several scriptures that say this is will of My Father, or this is the will of God. And I challenge people to look them up and find them.
Dale: 9:02 Deb and Ed and you opened a door to go deeper into worship. One of the things I would like to say is the things about tongues. There is a gift of tongues that you speak in a language that is not of your own. Whether it be a recognizable language or whether it is a language that the Holy Spirit is speaking through you that nobody has heard before. That is a wonderful experience but tongues go farther and like Deb was talking about worshiping in tongues. When you worship in tongues it is the same principle that what is coming out of you is a tongue but you may not know and most of the time you don’t know what your spirit is speaking to the Father the same way as when you speak in tongues people don’t understand what you are saying necessarily. And as we are worshiping in tongues with our spirit, it is our spirit directly connecting with the Father in worship and what’s in our spirit most of it anyway is what He has put there. So, He is getting back what He gave to you. These are things that He wants. Worship is a relationship to the Father. You don’t worship afar off. You worship where He lives in the presence of the Lord and that comes by being filled with the Spirit. What I wanted to say about truth and what Deb is saying and Ed is that when I go and do business. And I do business with integrity and with honesty and I am truthful. Those are attributes that the Father has given me and that becomes a form of worship. So, I can go to work every day and I can worship the Lord and the way I walk. The way I do business. The entertainment that I seek out. How I live my day is the worship to the Lord, because He is creating us that day by day and every day we give back to Him love. He first loved us, we give back adoration. The things that we do testify to Him and who He is within me and within you. These many facets of worship the foundational basic thing is being filled with the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit will lead you in business. He will lead you into the truth. He will show you are you acting in a responsible manner in business. Are you being on your job whatever it is, are you expressing the love of the Lord? Are you expressing the truth that God has placed within you because it’s you are living what is in your heart placed by the Father? Whether people recognize it or not is not the issue the issue is are you doing it because it goes back to the Father. He is the one that wants the Worship. The walk with God is a heart thing and whose heart can you give back to Him but His heart. How do I get that I ask for it? Holy Spirit give me the heart of the Father. Isn’t that what David said? Create in me a clean heart of God.
