2
:Yes, indeed.
3
:Thank you so much for coming back We love
you so much for being here Otherwise,
4
:this would be really weird that we
just talk in an office for 30 minutes
5
:at a time talking about the bible Just
you and I yeah sending it out into the
6
:ether and having no one listen to it.
7
:That's true We'll be a lot of people
listen, please But maybe invite somebody
8
:else to listen with you invite your tens
and tens of People to listen and have
9
:them invite tens and tens of people.
10
:And eventually over the course of 25 years
or so, we might reach about 50 people.
11
:Right?
12
:Maybe this could be a good thing.
13
:Hey, did you get your
free cup of coffee today?
14
:You know what my plan is, yes, I fully
intend to take advantage of my free cup
15
:of coffee at Starbucks because I've
had the Starbucks membership thing
16
:for years now and I want to use it.
17
:I don't really use it much out here.
18
:I'm surprised by that.
19
:There's not as many locations
as there are in, in the world.
20
:Oh, see, but I fully
intend to, how about you?
21
:Yeah, we have a one that a
drive thru one that opened up.
22
:That's right.
23
:I never think about that one.
24
:And So we'll we'll go there somewhat
often The cortado super good three shots
25
:Small cup that sounds powerful man.
26
:Really good.
27
:Yeah, how many how many grams of caffeine?
28
:I don't know.
29
:I don't don't ask questions
Let's just drink it.
30
:All right.
31
:Yeah, but man Yeah.
32
:You get your free cup of coffee.
33
:One of your last free cups of coffee,
you know, just, I don't know, like two
34
:days, give or take before a significant
day in your life is going to happen.
35
:I'm not trying to put you on
blast and reveal things, but I'm
36
:just saying maybe like I don't,
I'm not hiding my birth date.
37
:Well, I don't know.
38
:I think some might disagree.
39
:I'm just not promoting it.
40
:I'm not, I'm not actively promoting
it on different platforms.
41
:I will.
42
:Yeah.
43
:Thin for you.
44
:Wednesday.
45
:Pastor Rod's turning 40 on Wednesday.
46
:Everybody.
47
:Oof.
48
:Just to let everybody know.
49
:Yep, that's true.
50
:All of you listen as far as I know.
51
:That's true.
52
:There you go.
53
:So celebrate him because we
love him and he's worthy of
54
:our, of our honor and praise.
55
:. Yeah, . He's a me nervous.
56
:He's above reproach.
57
:He's an Irreproachable Irreproachable
above, above reproach, which is
58
:a qualification of our office.
59
:Of our, like our new office.
60
:No.
61
:Although it's a few days
before we get there.
62
:I'm excited about that.
63
:I'm excited about that too.
64
:I can't wait to have some more space.
65
:I was just sitting in my office
today and just, I hit the wall when I
66
:leaned back and I'm like, Oh, I can't
wait for that not to happen anymore.
67
:I hope that I was thinking about
these offices when we first walked
68
:in, they had those weird, like wooden
desks, like stage desks in here and
69
:it was, They were made of cardboard.
70
:I think they were.
71
:Yeah, they broke very easily.
72
:Yeah I thought we could get by cuz I'm
like, let's just embrace the mentality,
73
:you know, we're church planners church
plan We're gonna do the hard thing.
74
:It's winners when we type our sermons.
75
:That's right And then I realized they
weren't gonna work They were falling apart
76
:as you touch them and you try to move them
out of the and you can't move them at all
77
:No, that would be a big problem for you.
78
:It was the worst thing ever.
79
:So I'm glad we went up with
these He's very nice 300 I think
80
:my I was like, there's the 300.
81
:Yeah.
82
:I feel good about that.
83
:They're standing and, you know,
they're still their budget.
84
:They're still budget friendly.
85
:Yep.
86
:Yep.
87
:For sure.
88
:Hey X is 33, 34, 35.
89
:All right.
90
:So we're, we're, we're leaving Sana here.
91
:As the ESV superscript what's
above it's at a super sub.
92
:So yeah.
93
:Superscript title.
94
:Title, section, header, yeah,
those are better than superscript.
95
:But this is a cool chapter in
chapter 33, coming off of chapter
96
:32, which is low point chapter 33.
97
:Just a cool chapter.
98
:So showing some of the, just the intimacy
that Moses shared with God it says in this
99
:chapter that God used to speak to him face
to face as a man speaks to his friend.
100
:That's incredible.
101
:In fact, we just talked about that
yesterday at church that, that.
102
:There's that desire that we
have to say, that would be cool.
103
:I wish that God would speak to me face to
face as, as a man speaks with his friend.
104
:And as I said in the sermon yesterday,
just to harken back to that, I
105
:think what that reveals to us is
that when we have that desire,
106
:when we read this and say, man.
107
:That would be cool.
108
:I think it reveals a deficiency in
our understanding of the nature of the
109
:spirit's work and the nature of scripture.
110
:I think Moses would look at us holding
the Bible in our hands and say, man,
111
:how great would that be to have God's
revealed word in written form and be
112
:able to just carry it with you wherever
you go and you've got it there and
113
:you have the access to the mind of God
in the pages of scripture and beyond
114
:that, you've got the spirit dwelling
within you permanently as Christians
115
:to help you understand these things.
116
:Just.
117
:But my son Joshua was asking me on
Saturday, he asked me the question.
118
:He said, when did Moses
write all of these things?
119
:Insightful question.
120
:Good question to ask because we
believe Moses wrote the first
121
:five books of the Pentateuch.
122
:And I don't think he sat down and
wrote it all in one fell swoop.
123
:But I'm thinking that as he went in
in these times to meet with God face
124
:to face, that these were some of the
times that God was unpacking for him and
125
:revealing to him all that he had done.
126
:When you consider all of Joseph's
life and, and, you know, from
127
:the very beginning, Adam and Eve
creation, everything else like that.
128
:When did Moses learn all that?
129
:I think it's in these
times, like we see in.
130
:Chapter 33 and other times where he's
having these conversations with God,
131
:where I think God is revealing to him,
that's going to be what he's going to use
132
:to produce the first five books there.
133
:Absolutely.
134
:And on top of that, he probably
had some editorial help.
135
:Certainly he had help at the end of his
five books when he records his death.
136
:Yeah, he didn't write that
pretty sure about that.
137
:So even with him writing it and being
the primary author behind it, we would
138
:still be able to say there's room for
editorial help that doesn't compromise
139
:The the authorial intent of God.
140
:Hey, quick question here.
141
:It talks about Moses meeting God
face to face and yet in verse 20 God
142
:says you can't see my face and live.
143
:So how do we put those
two pieces together?
144
:Clearly moses is contradicting himself.
145
:The bible's not real
christianity's not true.
146
:Let's just throw the whole thing out get
rid of it Yeah, I had a note on that too.
147
:It's clearly it's metaphorical and I
think I think sometimes we assume that
148
:we are far more advanced than people in
the olden days, if I can put it that way,
149
:were the Israelites understood metaphor.
150
:They understood when he said,
yeah, face to face that, that,
151
:that wasn't literally face to face.
152
:So when we read that and then we
see verse 20, this is scripture
153
:helping us interpret scripture.
154
:And so that means, okay, this was just
the, the closeness that Moses felt
155
:with God that he's stressing there,
the intimacy that he felt with God that
156
:he's stressing there, not literally,
I'm seeing God's face, especially
157
:John four, got a spirit, doesn't
have a face, doesn't have a face.
158
:No.
159
:And so even if it were to be in the
physical presence, in that sense,
160
:he wouldn't behold a physical
face, which makes it interesting.
161
:Cause Moses says, Lord,
I want to see your glory.
162
:And that's where we get in here.
163
:And then in chapter 34, where God.
164
:Answers that prayer and says I'm going
to reveal myself to you, but I'm going
165
:to show you the backside of my glory What
what does that mean because he doesn't
166
:have a backside because he's spirit the
the eminence the presence that the the
167
:I think we see some of it in ezekiel
whereas ezekiel's describing the throne
168
:and some of the colors and brilliance
and everything like that, I think that's
169
:as close as we might be able to get as
far as a parallel of of How he could
170
:have conceived of a person Physical
emanation or physical presence of God.
171
:Yeah.
172
:I think there's probably the
difference between mitigated and
173
:unmitigated displays of his glory.
174
:Moses is asking, show me your
unmitigated, unfiltered, full throttle,
175
:eight K 16 K, whatever the number
is, give me all of your glory that.
176
:That you have let me see that And
god's like bro, you don't know
177
:what you're asking for step back.
178
:You couldn't handle it And so god says
look I will give you not unmitigated
179
:display of my glory, but i'll give you
a mitigated I'm gonna give you a taste
180
:of it a costco size sampler so that you
understand some of it But you will never
181
:be able to see it at least this side of
eternity Which I think this is one of the
182
:hopes of the christian life is that we
will get to see his face to face We will
183
:get to experience his glory Unmitigated
because we will be prepared by the spirit
184
:glorified such that we can receive it,
enjoy it and respond to it appropriately.
185
:And I look forward to that day
probably more than anything else.
186
:That's I'm excited to see what that is.
187
:If it would destroy us in our
flesh and it would encourage us
188
:and enlighten us in our, I don't
know, our renewed bodies, then that
189
:sounds pretty, pretty excited to me.
190
:Yeah.
191
:And I think a lot of it is, is.
192
:At least in my mind I often think about
light when it comes to his glory and
193
:that's connected to the scriptures
the concept of shekinah is the glory
194
:the the brilliance of light or even
in eternity where John says I saw no
195
:temple In or I saw no there was no sun.
196
:That's what there's no sun because
the The glory of God is there.
197
:And so the emanation of light coming
from God himself is part of what is, is
198
:wrapped up in the glory of God, because
it is a unique concept to think about.
199
:Okay.
200
:What is the glory of God look like?
201
:And I think blinding light is, is a
part of that, you know, even Jesus,
202
:when he's transfigured on the Mount
of Transfiguration, it says that his
203
:clothes became so white as, as no
fuller, no bleacher, no launderer on
204
:earth could ever bleach them, just the
brilliance of his purity displayed there.
205
:But it is going to be amazing
to behold that in whatever
206
:capacity that we can behold that.
207
:It's exciting.
208
:Yeah.
209
:Chapter 34 also contains the covenant
being renewed or reconfirmed.
210
:Yahweh brings Moses up on the
mountain again and rewrites
211
:the law on two new tablets.
212
:Cause we didn't mention that, but
Moses smashed the previous ones.
213
:In fact, God, God calls him out for that.
214
:He's like the tablets that you
broke Moses, seriously, did
215
:you not see why I broke them?
216
:But yeah, this is the
tablets that you broke.
217
:And so he replaces those he proclaims
his promise to bring the people again
218
:into the land, to exchange their
faithfulness to his laws and their
219
:devotion in their worship frame.
220
:So again, the, the mosaic covenant is a.
221
:A bilateral covenant.
222
:It's not unilateral the way
the Abrahamic covenant was.
223
:The Mosaic covenant is you
do this, I will do this.
224
:And so the land promise of the Abrahamic
covenant is now, as far as temporarily,
225
:at least connected to contingencies.
226
:And I say temporarily because God
is going to fulfill the Abrahamic
227
:covenant, no matter what the
question is when, and so it's.
228
:Temporally contingent upon Israel's
faithfulness in the Mosaic covenant.
229
:And so it's the Mosaic covenant,
as we were talking about earlier
230
:is nestled within the promises
of the Abrahamic covenant.
231
:And it's, it's the question becomes
whether or not Israel is going to
232
:realize the blessings of the Abrahamic
covenant through the obedience
233
:to the Mosaic covenant right now.
234
:Talk about easy Exodus
34 verses six and seven.
235
:The Lord passed before him and proclaim
the Lord, the Lord of God, merciful and
236
:gracious, slow to anger and abounding
and steadfast love and faithfulness.
237
:We love that part.
238
:Verse seven, keeping
steadfast love for thousands.
239
:We also like that forgiving
iniquity and transgression.
240
:And sin, but who will by no means
clear the guilty, visiting the
241
:iniquity of the fathers on the children
and the children's children to the
242
:third and to the fourth generation.
243
:How do we understand that in light
of the fact that God says that he
244
:doesn't, he, he doesn't visit the
sins of the fathers on the children.
245
:I think of chapters like, like that.
246
:Oh, man.
247
:Just losing my mind here.
248
:Ezekiel 18, I think it is where he
says that he's not going to do that.
249
:So how do we put these
two things together?
250
:Yeah, I think that the responsibility
of the heads of the household, the
251
:responsibility of the leaders of
the household, when sins can become
252
:generational sins, because in the
family it's, it's witnessed, it's
253
:observed, it's seen, and it's passed
on in that sense from one to another.
254
:It's a pattern, right?
255
:It's and what's, what's.
256
:Learned is not only what's
taught, but also what's caught.
257
:And so as, as our kids see sin patterns
in our life, how many times have we
258
:looked at our kids, especially as
they grow older and we see something
259
:in them and we're like, Oh man.
260
:I got that for me.
261
:Yeah, they got that for
me and I wish they hadn't.
262
:Yeah, I think that's what's on in in
view Here is when we're rebellious man,
263
:the consequences are more than just
our relationship with God But it's also
264
:the impact on on our families and the
future and what they're seeing from
265
:us I mean, we're gonna get into the
law and not too long and Deuteronomy
266
:6 where he's gonna say Here's what
you need to be doing You need to be
267
:teaching them and teaching your kids the
commandments and the laws and everything
268
:else like that if you don't If you do,
it's going to have positive impacts.
269
:If you don't, it's going
to have negative impacts.
270
:And I think that's what's in view here.
271
:That's helpful.
272
:Chapter 35.
273
:Then we get into the materials for
the construction of the tabernacle.
274
:And these are collected from the people.
275
:And again, this chapter emphasizes the
free will nature of these offerings.
276
:Everyone whose heart moved them,
everyone who desired to give did so.
277
:And so in chapter 35, we kind of get
the inventory of what the Israelites
278
:brought to contribute to the construction.
279
:The building of the tabernacle
itself, which we're going to
280
:get into in tomorrow's episode.
281
:Yeah.
282
:And there's going to be a lot of
repetition here just to heads up again,
283
:when you read these things, it's meant to
showcase Israel's doing the right thing.
284
:This is what God commanded them to do.
285
:This is what they built obeying the words
of Moses, obeying the words of the Lord.
286
:So even though it's a bit repetitive,
I think it'd be worth you at least
287
:marking your Bible Oh, God said this in
Exodus chapter 27 and here they fulfill
288
:it in this particular chapter here.
289
:So be prepared for some repetition,
but just know it's okay.
290
:This is what God intended for
us to see and he wants to show
291
:Israel doing the right thing here.
292
:Yeah.
293
:In fact, I was thinking about that.
294
:I think yesterday, well, yesterday
as we record this Friday morning, Dr.
295
:Mueller's episode of the briefing.
296
:There was a question from somebody
who wrote and said, what do we do
297
:with some of the more as they turn
them boring parts of the, the old
298
:Testament law, the repetitive parts.
299
:And Mueller's point was similar.
300
:He said, you know, this is God's,
he's doing this on purpose.
301
:He wants us to pay
attention to his detail.
302
:He's not like the other nations, the
other nations, you know, people sat
303
:there and said, well, let's figure
out how we want to worship God.
304
:The gods that we're creating
of our own, of our own mind.
305
:God saying, I'm not going to
let you sit back and think about
306
:how you want to worship me.
307
:I'm going to tell you how
you're going to worship me.
308
:And so that's part of the prescriptions
here in the laws and the descriptions
309
:and God saying, this is the
tabernacle I want to be worshiped in.
310
:And this is how I want it to look.
311
:And so this is what it's going to be
because I'm a holy God and you will
312
:love me and you will serve me that way.
313
:I'm into that.
314
:All right, let's pray.
315
:And then we'll be done with this episode.
316
:God, thanks for another another
episode of this podcast, being able
317
:to do that and do this for our church.
318
:We're grateful for that.
319
:We are thankful that we get to worship
you with a little bit more freedom in,
320
:in a different context than they did
because we're on the backside of the cross
321
:because we know Christ is our savior.
322
:And so we are grateful Lord, certainly
for that future that we are anticipating
323
:and praying for when we will be in your
presence and see your, your full glory and
324
:whatever that is going to be like for us.
325
:What an amazing reality
that is even revelation 21.
326
:one, that the first time ever that it
will be said that God, the dwelling
327
:place of God is with man permanently
will be there on the new earth.
328
:And so we are longing for that
day and praying for that day.
329
:In the meantime, help us to be
found faithful as I often pray.
330
:We ask this in Jesus name, amen.
331
:Keep reading your Bibles.
