A veterinarian might struggle to get a mare pregnant for several reasons, including uterine infections, hormonal imbalances, or age-related reproductive changes. Other factors, such as timing of insemination, stallion fertility, and overall mare health, can also affect conception rates. Identifying and addressing these issues through diagnostic tests and tailored breeding management can greatly improve the chances of a successful pregnancy. Carleigh Fedorka, PhD, of Colorado State University, in Fort Collins, explains common causes of mare fertility problems and how veterinarians combat them in this excerpt from Ask TheHorse Live.
