The outlook for the next week or so, and an update on where all the resorts are at.

Also, starting this year we will include a regular update from mountainsafetycollective.org with today's ep featuring their weekend outlook.

Transcripts

:

It’s a good news / bad news / good news day today. There’s been about 20cm of new snow since we spoke on Tuesday, and Perisher now has four times as many lifts open! That’s a total of 2 ski carpets, the sturt t bar and the V8 chair - yep, 4 lifts, up from 1 earlier in the week. But i don’t know that we should call a ski carpet a lift really, more of a gentle assist device.. perhaps?

Anyway, at least there’s something open at Perisher, because Thredbo won’t open this weekend and there’s not a peep from Charlotte Pass or Selwyn yet.

However, it looks like there is snow incoming later this weekend, with more to come over the next week or so. Hopefully we’ll have some more action at the resorts soon. And of course, you’ll hear from me as soon as that happens - make sure you’re subscribed to the podcast for regular updates.

As a new feature to the podcast this year, I’m going to be including some more snow-related reports from other sources. At the end of each week, I’ll be sharing Mountain Safety Collective's Backcountry outlook for NSW. MSC is a not-for-profit association that supports winter backcountry recreation in Victoria and NSW, with a tonne of useful info on their site for all those who like the snow outside of the resorts.

Today,, their advice is that the cover is thin with little to no base. Extra Caution is needed due to the snowpack collapsing over shrubs, and you should watch out for rocks. If you are heading out, Visibility will be limited with whiteout conditions likely. So be prepared for whiteout navigation… and for more details, visit the mountainsafetycollective.org website or follow MSC on Instagram and Facebook.

That’s it for me today, I’ll be back in a couple of days with another update. As soon as there’s enough snow for us to play on, i’ll be back to Daily Reports through to the end of winter… don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already and thank you for listening. I’m Anthony Garvin and this has been Daily Snow for Friday June 16.
