Shownotes

Daniel meets up with the Harsisus child and gets a glimpse of what would happen to even him if he was to gain absolute power. And as you might expect, it isn't pretty. Will this lead Daniel to understanding the Goa'uld a little more? Or even perhaps lead to a deeper understanding of himself. Or perhaps lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves?

[0:14] Podcast. My name is Jeff Akin and I'm watching Stargate SG one for the first time. And I'm Brent Allen and I'm watching Stargate SG one for the 47th time. But for the first time, I am watching Stargate for the messages that are contained within. What is it trying to tell us? You know, those things that sci-fi does really well, like holding up a mirror to society, giving us hope that things can be better in the future, or maybe just telling us how we can be and better human beings right now. To be a better human being, Brent, I believe takes a measure of power. And in today's episode, we're going to explore absolute power. And I think through my prediction, that we're gonna meet a new system lord. And they're gonna be kinda picking up.

th the year:

[2:04] What's going to happen is, and the way this works, Jeff and I are going to watch this episode together right now. If you're hanging out with us on YouTube, stick around because you're going to catch the reaction to this video. And afterwards, we're going to talk some stuff. But if you want the full unedited version of this reaction, head over to our Patreon page at patreon.com slash bad nerds. And if you're one of our incredible podcast app listeners, we're about to gate into the future. We'll be there waiting to meet you on the other side. I'll share my first time reaction.

[2:35] Brent will share the sci-fi messages that he pulls down out of this one. So, Brent, let's do this. It's time for absolute power. 7-0.

[2:55] I said Daniel. Anybody else just hear that? Sure. I think so. What? Look. Now that's impressive. Right? Jack's like, now I'm a believer. Pillar of fire, pillar of smoke, man. Uh-huh. Pillar of sand. Daniel! You're trying to keep it in Kansas, huh? I was just, uh... I'm Daniel! Who's calling? This is a spendy episode. That's a pretty cool effect for a TV show. Welcome to Showtime. That's Showtime money right there, man. Is that the Dalai Lama? Bad nerves. Is that his kid? No he's like 12 100 that was shawry's voice i am harcesis.

[3:57] Shifu wow i gotta tell you i totally forgot about this kid absolutely you did yeah this this is the thing i love about stargate jeff is you never know when they're gonna reach back and pull something out of a previous episode and it could be seasons later before you ever even talk about it again and there it is and then there's other things that frankly you continue to wait for like we are not told everything that happens in these folks lives right yeah you know teal could be visiting them on a regular basis we just never hear about it and that's not story worthy and that would totally be fair within their world so yeah yeah anyway here we go.

[4:44] But you're right. He's a lot older than he should be. Yeah. Substantially. He should be, what, a year old? He is the harcesis. How is that possible? I'm not sure. He says he grew like the weeds. The paphiz sired the child to be his next host. It is possible he used Goa'u technology to manipulate the boy's body to mature quickly. That's possible. I appreciate how he said the word mature. Does he speak of the knowledge passed on to him by Amunet and Apophis? He says Oma taught him to forget. Oma? The alien we encountered on Camp Mother Nature Camp Mother Nature That explains the tornado Shifu says he came to Abydos to learn more about his mother And to find a panda His name means light I think we should have Dr. Frazier take a look at it If he's been altered to grow quickly It could still be happening You think it's wise to bring him back? I don't think he's a danger What about his stepmom? Is she coming along? He says that ultimately a man travels his chosen path alone Smart kid Like so.

[5:41] Get a message to ham and let them know who we're bringing give them heads up so they don't shoot it feels like they should actually have to call back for permission to bring him back right instead he's just like this is tom who is coming he's the leader of this facility welcome to earth a spark lights a flame but the candle will only burn as long as the wick, also water is wet thanks kid let's get you over to the infirmary i think what he means is the wick is the center of the candle. Ostensibly a great leader, like yourself, is essential to the whole ball of wax. Basically what it means is that it's always better to have a big, long wick. Oh man. It's just like... Robert C. Cooper's like, I got a great joke for this I'm going to have to take a long walk to get there, but we're going to do it. I am going to take a little bit of your blood with that needle. Will you return it to me when you're done? No, that's a good question. I'm afraid I can't. You see, I have to do some tests on it, and then it just won't be very good after that. But your body will make more. It's fine. The tree still grows strong and proud. I think that means okay. Go ahead.

[7:06] Okay. you know that reference wouldn't work on people who live in florida i found traces the same nanotechnology that what do you mean they fall what are you talking about now i've had them analyzed by some of the foremost experts in the field and they say that they appear to be inactive, so they shut themselves off, I think I might have been talking over what she just said here, Jeff. The same nanites that made Colonel O'Neill age back in that episode, Brief Candle. Those are the same things that are in him making him age. But now people have said the little bots have shut themselves off, so he should be fine from now on. Yeah. Just a nice way to fast forward him a little bit to a. You know what? I love the fact that they addressed it. How often have you and I watched an episode of any kind of sci-fi and were like, all you need to do is put in a line. Right. Like, just give me a line. i'll i'm with you at that point and then we can go just give me something acknowledge it you know don't don't treat me as dumb yeah say the thing and now we can move on and tell the story that's important hang a lantern on it here we go so the kid should know everything apophis knew when he.

you go, Daniel. Look at us in:

[9:29] Physically, yeah. Right. Is a 12-year-old capable of actually having the self-knowledge of saying, yes, I'm okay to do this. Yes, I'm okay for you to take the step and drop all this stuff in my memory again. I'm comfortable with that. And I can handle it as a 12-year-old. I just had a bunch of nanites running through me, and now I have every hormone imaginable raging through my body. Yeah, let me make this call.

[9:59] Somehow I don't feel like this kid has those hormones raging through his body yet. That's fair. He's too wise for that. Or Oma DeSala has him on some pretty cool stuff, man. Right. Chill him out. She's just salt Peter in that milk all the time. Man, I tell you what, if that is the case, I wish you would let me know what it is because I got a 12-year-old running around here at the house right now. I would love to chill out. Salt Peter is the answer for real. I like saying. Well, maybe he could forget again. Yeah. Let's just, he'll remember, forget, remember, forget whenever we need it is a filing cabinet. Yeah. I don't see what's complicated about this. Yeah. We should mark this to discuss this though. Think of how they're talking about using this kid though. Yeah. Like a store of information. Daniel is the only one who is considering him as a human being. Everybody else is considering him as a, as an encyclopedia as just a thing to use right now, you know? And I think that's way oversimplifying it. If this was a real conversation, we were to ask, like, is this really how you think about it? No, that's not what I mean. But they've got to look at this side of it. Yeah. You could forget again. Uma teaches the true nature of man is decided in the battle between his conscious mind and the desires of the subconscious. Wow. Uma teaches the evil of my subconscious is too strong to resist. The only way to win is to deny it battle.
