Transcripts

Trish:

You are not required to get motherhood right every single time To be a good mom, you are allowed to learn, to grow, to change your mind, and to make different decisions as you gain more wisdom.

Trish:

Confidence isn't about being a perfect mom.

Trish:

Confidence is about trusting yourself enough to grow.

Trish:

I have had seven children.

Trish:

And I can tell you with absolute certainty, I have not always made the same choices for each and every one of them, and that doesn't make me like not a good mom or reckless, it makes me a human.

Trish:

Growth happens when you look back.

Trish:

You reflect, you learn, and you move forward with more clarity than before.

Trish:

God chose you for this baby, not because you were perfect, but because you're capable and you're equipped for your.

Trish:

Baby.

Trish:

And if there's something you don't know yet, that's okay.

Trish:

That's not a failure.

Trish:

That's an invitation to learn.

Trish:

That is an invitation to seek wisdom and to grow into the mama that you are becoming.

Trish:

If you've been listening to this series with us, thank you so much.

Trish:

We started with pregnancy unpacked, then we went to postpartum, unpacked.

Trish:

And it has been such a beautiful journey.

Trish:

We are now going back to Friday only episodes, and I want you right now to pause and take a breath with me because postpartum doesn't change your body.

Trish:

It changes who you are, your identity.

Trish:

It changes how you see yourself as a woman, as a mama, and honestly.

Trish:

As a human, and one of the biggest things I want to leave with you as we close out the postpartum unpacked is this, you're allowed to be confident in yourself as a mom, even if you don't have all the answers yet you are not required to understand everything about motherhood right away.

Trish:

You're allowed to learn.

Trish:

You're allowed to grow.

Trish:

You're allowed to change your mind, and you're allowed to make different decisions as you gain more and more wisdom.

Trish:

Confidence isn't about being perfect.

Trish:

It is about trusting yourself enough to evolve.

Trish:

I've had seven children, y'all, seven, and I want you to hear me like I have not always made the same decisions with all of them, and some of them don't like that, but you know what?

Trish:

That's okay.

Trish:

And it's not because I didn't care.

Trish:

It's not because I was like wishy-washy.

Trish:

It's because I learned and I grew as a mom and as a woman, I gained more knowledge.

Trish:

I reflected, I, I met other women and learned from them and I realized, oh wow, I really like how she's doing that.

Trish:

I really like her, you know, reasoning for that.

Trish:

And I didn't.

Trish:

Want to mother my children outta shame or fear.

Trish:

I wanted it to be confident and curious, one thing I always did as I raised my children was I was willing to apologize.

Trish:

I was willing to say, Hey, I'm a human, y'all.

Trish:

I make mistakes.

Trish:

And mommy really sucked in that moment, and I'm sorry.

Trish:

So I want you guys to hear me.

Trish:

If you're sitting there in postpartum, your boobs are leaking, your butt is swollen, and you are overplaying, replaying decisions that you've made, worrying that you're gonna mess all of this up, you are gonna mess up some of it.

Trish:

As long as you're not harming your baby, you have room to make mistakes, you have room to try new things and to change your mind and to gain new information.

Trish:

And here's what I want you to hear me the most right now as we close out this series, is that you are becoming who you are becoming.

Trish:

Not who your neighbor is becoming, or your bestie or your sister or your mom.

Trish:

God chose you for this baby, and not because you were perfect, because you're capable, you're equipped for your baby, and if there's something you don't know yet, so what?

Trish:

That's your invitation to keep growing.

Trish:

There's nothing accidental about you being this baby's mama.

Trish:

You're chosen, you're trusted, you're capable.

Trish:

You're more equipped than you realize.

Trish:

Now, I will say something I really want to talk about before we close this out is community.

Trish:

Because mama life, motherhood was never meant to be done alone.

Trish:

And in this world of social media and busyness and running from here to there.

Trish:

We get so busy we don't connect.

Trish:

This is why we added on the postpartum community.

Trish:

Calm Mama Society for our Pregnant and Postpartum Moms, because inside that space.

Trish:

We have moms who have been moms for 15 years and 15 minutes.

Trish:

You have women who are so confident and some that are unsure, and instead of comparing, instead of mom shame, we come alongside each other.

Trish:

I have grown so much as Grayson's mom.

Trish:

Because you were never meant to do this alone.

Trish:

So if there's anything I can leave you guys with is find your village.

Trish:

Whether it's something like Calm Mama Society, whether it's the library in Story Hour or a local moms group.

Trish:

You don't have to figure it out alone.

Trish:

You need a village.

Trish:

Postpartum is not the end of who you were.

Trish:

It's the beginning of who you are becoming, and you're allowed to become her at your own darn pace.

Trish:

But I would really recommend you get support.

Trish:

And you get a village of women, so you guys can all, like, if you're watching the video, grab hands and walk this journey together.

Trish:

I am so honored that you allowed me to be a part of this journey.

Trish:

I hope you continue with us on Fridays where we talk about pregnancy, postpartum, birth, mom life, all the things.

Trish:
