Shownotes
Despite losing the 2020 popular vote, President Trump nearly won a second term by capturing enough Electoral College votes to remain in the White House. This year’s close results, combined with Clinton’s Electoral College loss in 2016, have led many to demand an end to the centuries-old body.
American historian Dr. Allen Guelzo joined the show to discuss why abolishing the Electoral College would be a disaster for US politics. He explains why alternatives to the Electoral College would fail and explores the system’s origins and importance to American democracy.
Dr. Guelzo is a New York Times best-seller author, American historian and commentator on public issues. He is also Director of the James Madison Program Initiative on Politics and Statesmanship and Senior Research Scholar in the Council of the Humanities at Princeton University.
