Darragh, Anna and Ciara give a round up of the week's climate stories mentioning:
· The collapse of the Conger Ice Shelf in Antarctica
· Energy security challenges because of the impact of the war on Russian oil and gas supplies… Germany considering rationing gas.
· The government announces a €1bn investment in the Limerick-Cork road, can it possibly reduce emissions?
· The Circular Economy bill has been approved by cabinet, but will it mean more than a levy on coffee cups and extensive CCTV around the country?
· Solar and wind energy provided 10% of the world’s electricity for the first time in 2021, with 38% coming from clean sources (if you include nuclear and hydro).
· Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for not mentioning climate change at the Oscars
Darragh, Anna and Ciara look in more detail at the fires around the Irish countryside and what they mean for biodiversity. They discuss the addition of Climate Change to the Leaving Cert curriculum.
For the “not climate” story, they consider the Irish Census time capsule and what might be included there.
