Shownotes

Dustin Oliver is a therapist in Brooklyn. He specializes in working with gay and queer men. Dustin joins us today to discuss minority stress, particularly from a queer male perspective. Dustin comes to us with research studies, definitions, clinical experience–you’re gonna learn a lot. And, of course, we connect minority stress to healing chronic pain.

In this Episode:

🔹 What is minority stress? It’s the chronic, excessive stress experienced by stigmatized or marginalized groups.

🔹 We explore Ilan Meyer’s 2003 Minority Stress Model, and Dutsin provides updates added to the model in the intervening years.

🔹 We get into the negative mental and physical impacts of minority stress.

🔹 And, Dustin also takes us into the blessings, the benefits, and the liberties of being queer.

This is an informative, fun, hopeful, uplifting conversation. You’re more than welcome to join in.
