Fear Not: God’s Promises

The Ultimate Fear 3

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is Day 668 of our trek, and it is time for our Philosophy Friday series. Each Friday we ponder some of the basic truths and mysteries of life and how they can impact us in creating our living legacy.

We are focusing on how to live with less fear. We are exploring the trails on our trek of life that will help us to be fearless. But this does not imply that we will reach the point where we are completely without any fear, for that is not only impossible but also not wise. There is a time and a place for an appropriate level of fear, but most fear that we experience on a daily basis has no grounding and can be eliminated as we grow in wisdom, insight, and understanding. So our objective for these next several Fridays is to experience a FearLess Friday on our trek of life. Today is our fifth trail on our trek covering, “Imagine a Life without Fear.”

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. I had a follow-up appointment with the surgeon who repaired my fractured left femur. My leg is healing well, and we can expand our physical therapy to include additional exercises. He encouraged both pool therapy and additional walking. He also suggested walking some without the cane to continue strengthening the leg. Right now without the cane, I have a significant limp, but that should get less with more time. Paula and I are scheduled to go on a two-week business trip starting next Wednesday, so that will be a test of my ability to endure in a different situation from home. New situations such as this traveling and being away from home can be a time of fear, but we know that within God’s Word, we are commanded to…

Fear Not: God’s Promises

Today’s trek will contain limited dialog as we focus on God’s promises that He has provided us in His Word. So let’s begin our trek on the path of no fear. How can we go forward when the path is treacherous and dark, and we can see our way clearly? Matthew 28:20 – Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

When we fear we are telling God that we don’t matter to Him. – Matthew 10:31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

1 John 1:9 – But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Fear Not God's Promises 1

If we are not careful, soon fear becomes a constant worry. Jesus tells us not to worry. Matthew 6:25-27 – “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?”

Jesus continues. Matthew 6:32-33 – These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

When we fear we dwell on the worst case scenarios instead of trusting in God. Matthew 14:27 – But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

The Apostle Paul instructed us in his letter to the Romans. Romans 8:38 – And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Fear Not God's Promises 2

When we fear life’s final moments, Jesus told us that there is something much better in the next realm for us. John 14:1-3 – “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

God’s promises can sustain us when we fear what’s next for our lives. John 14:26-27 – But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.  “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Fear Not God's Promises 4

When our faith grows so weak that we fear that God is not real, Jesus tells us in Luke 24:39-40“‘Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.’ As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.”

There are many more promises in God’s word that encourage us to “Fear Not.” It has been noted that there are at least 365 such promises. That is one for every day of the year. We would do well to learn and apply those promises to our lives daily.

That wraps up this five-week trek encouraging us to “Imagine a Life without Fear.” Next FearLess Friday we will learn more on conquering our fears. I know you will find these insights interesting and profitable in living a rich and satisfying life. Our next trek is Mindshift Monday where we will help you live differently by thinking differently. So encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
