14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Jesus. Matthew 5:14, 15. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 12 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing. Light illuminates the path home on a dark night. Light scares off the night-time prowler. Light shines bright hope to a ship struggling to stay off a rocky reef. Light guides a pilot and his precious cargo to a safe landing. Light finds the lost boy. Jesus-followers are all of these. The light of hope—to those without it. The illuminating presence in the confusing journey of life. The defender against moral assailants. The folks helping others find a safe harbor in the storm. But all of this only happens if they let their light shine—and light shines only if they’re filled with it—the personal presence of Jesus.
