Lauren Brollier Newton

Well, welcome to the abundant coach Lauren Brearley Newton here. Super, super thrilled to be with you. And if it sounds like I have a frog in my throat, it is because I do. So I had two options in front of me. Option number one don't record the podcast. Wait until your voice is better. And yet, today's podcast is about how to clean your identity as an abundant coach this year.

00;00;55;26 - 00;01;15;18

Lauren Brollier Newton

So if I'm practicing what I preach, which is a core value we have here at the institute that we live, what we teach, what we teach, is that we don't wait until it's perfect, until the ducks are in a roll, till we have everything worked out in order to serve people and help others. So going by that, some of you might think my voice is sexy.

00;01;15;21 - 00;01;35;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

Some of you might think it's annoying, but I think what's more valuable than anything about how my voice sounds or whatever's going on more valuable, is that you get the value that we promise you by publishing this podcast twice a week. So starting there, let's dive into this week's episode, because it's all about how to claim your identity as an abundant coach this year.

00;01;35;29 - 00;01;53;06

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I want us to zero in on the word claim because claim has a very serious commitment. Sound to it. For me it's a very expansive word is claim. It is like that's mine. I own it. So I want to give you some tools today about how to do that. Now I'm going to start with a quote like I always do.

00;01;53;08 - 00;02;19;15

Lauren Brollier Newton

And here's the quote by acting as if I was not afraid. I gradually cease to be afraid. Teddy Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt. By acting as if I was not afraid. I gradually ceased to be afraid. A lot of what we're going to talk about in terms of claiming your identity as an abandoned coach, a lot of what we're going to talk about today is actually centered around acting as if you already are abundant.

00;02;19;17 - 00;02;36;29

Lauren Brollier Newton

Now, don't press stop right now. Don't go anywhere else. Because for some of you, you've been in personal development before, and there's a part of you that wants to roll your eyes to that statement because you've heard it. Maybe you've even tried to apply it, or you've done the Law of Attraction things, and it didn't yield the result you wanted yet.

00;02;37;01 - 00;03;01;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

he United States in the early:

00;03;01;28 - 00;03;25;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

One example being the national parks. And I think it's interesting that he says by acting as if I was not afraid. I gradually ceased to be afraid. How does that work and why does that work? So it's a new year for you now. For some people, the New Year thing, has gotten worn out because we set a resolution and we don't follow it up until now.

00;03;25;11 - 00;03;49;12

Lauren Brollier Newton

Also, not wanting to get too deep on the philosophy and the physics here, but ultimately, time is as a human construct. Einstein said it best when he said an easy way to explain. I think it was his theory of relativity is that if you're sitting on a hot burner or in a fire, seconds pass like minutes. But if you're kissing the love of your life minutes past like seconds.

00;03;49;12 - 00;04;16;19

Lauren Brollier Newton

So time is a human construct. Time is relative. And yet collectively, there's an energy about a new year, a fresh start, doing something and exploring territory we haven't explored before. So we can harness that fresh start energy and decide for being an abundant coach this year. Now, the first thing I'd love for you to reflect on is what does being an abundant coach mean to you?

00;04;16;21 - 00;04;41;29

Lauren Brollier Newton

Just let that sink in, because for everybody, that's going to be different. For some people, it's going to be building an empire. For others of you, it will be complete time and location. Freedom. I can't know for you what exactly an abundant coach means to you, but what I can know is that the word abundance. Think of it like plenty, dude.

00;04;42;02 - 00;05;09;20

Lauren Brollier Newton

There's a plenty to. There's a cup runneth over. There's plenty of whatever it is that you're desiring. So now the question becomes, how do we claim that? How do we make that ours, even if the evidence isn't quite yet there yet? One of the things I want to talk about today is this idea of acting as if I was talking to a, a friend of mine and someone I follow on social media outside of the coaching space.

00;05;09;21 - 00;05;31;05

Lauren Brollier Newton

She's in a completely different space, but she's a badass female business owner entrepreneur. And so I was having a conversation with her the other day, and she sells products so very different than a service driven like we do. As coaches, but not different in that she's an entrepreneur building a business. And like many of you, a female entrepreneur building a business.

00;05;31;07 - 00;05;57;28

Lauren Brollier Newton

And she's got her business in five years to $1 million in sales in low priced products like her products might be between $40 and $100 each. So we would call that in the coaching space low ticket items. And when I was asking her about how she built her social media presence and things like that, she shared with me that she always acted as if her words now and she's not super in in the personal development space either.

00;05;57;28 - 00;06;28;20

Lauren Brollier Newton

So it was interesting to talk to someone who, how would I say this? She's not so integrated into this world that she just this is her vernacular. This is the way personal development is the way she talks all the time. Obviously, she's had to develop personally because nobody creates that kind of success without developing personally. But she might not use the same language as we do here in the personal development space, which is really cool, because then you get into the mind of someone has created success and is, you know, sharing how she created it.

00;06;28;22 - 00;06;49;03

Lauren Brollier Newton

And she said, I always acted as if I was really busy. I was really filled with clients. I just, you know, pretended in a way that I was already successful and I always ran my business this way. Now, in her space, the product sales space, she said that in the beginning, people would try to barter with her.

00;06;49;05 - 00;07;08;04

Lauren Brollier Newton

So she. She sells antiques and vintage items. So she said in the beginning, people would try to barter with me like it was a flea market. And no matter how bad I wanted the sale, no matter how bad I wanted that money, I acted as if I already had a successful business. What is a successful businesswoman do? She doesn't take bartering.

00;07;08;05 - 00;07;26;12

Lauren Brollier Newton

It's like, no, this is my product. This is the price that's on it. And she always established her business that day. That way. She also said that she always acted as if she was busy. She had lots of customers. From the get go, I thought that was really interesting, because that is actually exactly what I'm asking you to do.

00;07;26;14 - 00;07;55;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

You act as if I'm going to give you a couple additional examples of this. But when I was very first getting started in my coaching business and I would go to my networking meetings, I was big fan of any business networking international. I'd go to my networking meetings. I had had a handful of clients. I was still, I had just actually, I think I just got out of working full time as a teacher, and I could have gone in there with this kind of a beingness or an attitude.

00;07;55;14 - 00;08;16;16

Lauren Brollier Newton

I could have been like. Hi, my name is Lauren. I'm a recent. I recently quit teaching school and now I'm just starting my coaching business, and I'm super happy to be here. And I'm I'm learning a lot. I could have gone in there like that. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that, but I want you to think about hiring an expert or hiring a professional.

00;08;16;18 - 00;08;35;05

Lauren Brollier Newton

If you're thinking about hiring someone to help you with your life. In terms of what I was doing, life coaching, or even your fitness or your business or whatever it is, don't you want to feel a little bit more confidence coming from that person, or a little more experience coming from that person? Now, I want to be very clear, acting as if isn't lying.

00;08;35;08 - 00;08;53;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

m not saying, oh, I've served:

00;08;53;24 - 00;09;13;05

Lauren Brollier Newton

I am a life coach, and I'm thrilled to be with you today because I help people fill in the blank. Fill in the blank. So I'm not apologizing for being new. I'm not saying I'm new. I'm literally just saying this is what I do and this is how I help people. That is what I do. Now, I might have only had 1 or 2 clients at the time, but that didn't matter to me.

00;09;13;07 - 00;09;28;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

When I when I got up and said my little spiel at the end, I would often say, hey, I was working with one of my clients the other day. I didn't say, hey, yeah, like I'm new to this, so I only have a couple of clients, but I was working with this client. You see the difference about claiming the energy there?

00;09;28;29 - 00;09;46;23

Lauren Brollier Newton

irst year of coaching back in:

00;09;46;26 - 00;10;10;07

Lauren Brollier Newton

So acting as if like I said, it's not a lie, but I'm just putting on the energy of how a successful coach thinks, talks, corresponds with the world, helps people. The level of confidence they hold. That's very important because it's not only doing something for your mindset, it's also doing something for the audience who's like, oh, I can trust this person because they know what they're talking about.

00;10;10;10 - 00;10;30;00

Lauren Brollier Newton

They're not apologizing for who they are, right? Another example that comes to my mind. This might feel slightly off topic, but I'm taking us somewhere, so bear with me here. Stick with me. This is going to be really important. When I first became a coach, I was in the middle of divorce. Many of you have heard that story and I was living in my parents basement.

00;10;30;00 - 00;10;54;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

Many of you have heard that story. And there came a point when my former husband, who was going to buy me out of the house that we bought together. Now when we bought that house together, I, didn't have any money. I didn't have any savings or anything like that, but I could contribute to it monthly. And I was really, I would say, how would I say this, a torchbearer for us being able to get that house.

00;10;54;22 - 00;11;10;23

Lauren Brollier Newton

It was like we loved the house. There's got to be something we can do to buy this house. I was an unconscious competent at the time, meaning I didn't know the dream builder tools and principles that I learned here at Braid Thinking Institute. Yet. But I knew, like, okay, there has to be a possible way for us to get it.

00;11;10;25 - 00;11;29;07

Lauren Brollier Newton

And my former husband's, grandfather had passed away, and he didn't know if he was going to receive any money or anything from that, but it ended up that he was receiving $50,000. And so all sorts of things occurred. And then we ended up receiving $50,000 not that long after, we saw this house that we love.

00;11;29;07 - 00;11;47;12

Lauren Brollier Newton

So we bought it. And, when we got divorced, he was going to have to buy me out of this house. Now, I wouldn't touch, of course, that down payment or anything, but I would receive half of the equity that we had gained. And over time, you know, it's so interesting how the universe supports you when you decide to make a move.

00;11;47;12 - 00;12;01;28

Lauren Brollier Newton

When I got divorced, a friend sent me a meme. I'll tell this story on a different day. It's a great manifestation story, but she sent me a meme that said, don't be surprised at how the universe moves with you. Once you have decided, and I decided to be a coach, I'd invested in it. I didn't have money.

00;12;01;28 - 00;12;21;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

I had a ton of debt. I did have to fund a lot of my business on credit cards and things like that. But it's interesting how much the infinite, the universe supports you in ways that you might be too blind to see off the bat or things like that. So anyway, so I've invested in coaching. I'm already a coach, I believe, at this time.

00;12;21;15 - 00;12;44;07

Lauren Brollier Newton

And, this former husband of mine is going to give me a check for my half of the equity in the house, and it ends up being $100,000. Yeah. So that felt like a lot of money to me at that time. And so I think it's a good, healthy amount of money for any, for any of us.

00;12;44;10 - 00;13;14;18

Lauren Brollier Newton

When you look at that. So he's going to give me this check for $100,000. You would think that I'd be thrilled. I mean, think about it. I'm living in a basement. I've got all this debt on credit cards, so I. I think at that point I had probably 30,000 something on credit cards I had I know I had $35,000 in student loans, and I had a car payment and, you know, some bills and things like that.

00;13;14;21 - 00;13;38;06

Lauren Brollier Newton

So it wasn't like, $100,000 was going to, you know, get me rich by any means. But it was certainly going to help me pay off all those bills, which I was very grateful for. You'd think I'd be thrilled. Here's the thing about how our subconscious mind works and how our, paradigm, or our current set point, or our current habits and ways of beings keep us stuck.

00;13;38;08 - 00;14;02;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

What I felt mostly was, a lot of shame rising up, and a lot of. You're going to screw this up. Rising up at me. So also, I'll tell you what I mean by that. I would think about receiving the $100,000, and I would think to myself, you are only receiving this learn because you're a failure at marriage, because you married someone who you didn't belong with.

00;14;02;10 - 00;14;23;25

Lauren Brollier Newton

But so it was like all this shame around why am I receiving this check? Okay, the second thing was I had a I had just level of fact, pretty terrible history with money up until that point, from the time I was probably 15 years old when I got my first, you know, like debit card that my mom had to sign off on because I got my first job, my account, I overdraw my account.

00;14;23;27 - 00;14;43;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

And then when they gave me a credit card, I always maxed it out. Like I just was terrible with money. And so what my what? The paradigm, my current habit of life, my belief about myself and about the world was telling me in terms of getting a $100,000 check was you're going to blow it. You always screw it up and you're terrible with money.

00;14;43;08 - 00;15;06;20

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I just kept hearing this over and over and over again. One of the most important things about claiming a new identity is one you have to know what you want the new identity to be. So if if I'm claiming and maybe it's not a new identity, maybe it's an expanded identity. But if I'm going to claim an expanded identity, it's going to be important for me to know what is that expanded identity.

00;15;06;23 - 00;15;25;23

Lauren Brollier Newton

So let's go back to a tool that I know that most of you know. Mary said to me early on, Mary Morrissey, our founder here at Profit Thinking Institute, said to me early on in my coaching, she said, learn you don't know something. You think you know something, but you don't really know it until all your results are a reflection of that.

00;15;25;23 - 00;15;44;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

Knowing up until that point, you just know about it or you've read about it, but you don't really know it. When she was teaching me to do is stay humble. Some might call it Carol Dweck and mindset might call it a beginner's mind, a growth mindset, which she was inviting me to do is if it's not reflective of your life, how do you really know it?

00;15;44;10 - 00;16;06;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

Or have you just read about it once or twice? And so the thing I want to share with you today, that I'm asking you to ask yourself if you really know it, one of the steps is vision. What is this identity as a coach that you want to claim? Who are you in the vision version of you? Because if you don't know who you are in the vision version of you, you can't think from that identity.

00;16;06;10 - 00;16;26;05

Lauren Brollier Newton

You can't make decisions from that identity. So that's going to be really important. I'm going to get back to my story about $100,000 in a second. But it's very important to know I already had my vision, identity mapped out. Now, the other thing you must know is what are the thoughts that are in opposition to this identity that I'm claiming that I would love?

00;16;26;07 - 00;16;47;19

Lauren Brollier Newton

So in my case, I'm sitting here thinking about this hundred thousand dollars I have a vision. My vision was I was easily generating multiple six figures as a coach. I was living in a in a home that I loved. I was impacting people like I had the vision. My current level of thinking, though, is I'm going to blow $100,000 because I suck at money.

00;16;47;21 - 00;17;05;06

Lauren Brollier Newton

Nowhere in my vision identity doesn't say I'm so happy and grateful that I suck at money. No, that was an old pattern, an identity I wanted to shed. So I realized this. I'm thinking this thoughts about $100,000. This is not who I want to be. And if I keep thinking this thought, I'm going to have the same result.

00;17;05;06 - 00;17;24;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

I am going to blow it, or I am going to think little of myself. Right? I'm going to keep the shame story up, and then I'm not gonna be able to help anybody because I'm going to be so paralyzed by that. So I decided to change it. When you're claiming a new identity, one of the things that you want to, explore is.

00;17;24;08 - 00;17;55;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

And let me give you a couple questions to ask yourself here. What would that version of me think about this? What does that version of me in that vision, in that new identity, I'd love to claim? What does that version of me do in this scenario? So I asked myself that question, and I was in structures of support with Brave Thinking Institute because I was getting my certification and always stayed in support structure.

00;17;55;14 - 00;18;10;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

That what I mean by that was I always stayed in programs where I could receive coaching for myself so that I wasn't sitting there doing this alone. I want any of you to think I was sitting there coming up with the stuff by myself. But one of the questions that I had been trained to ask was like, what does that version of me do here think here?

00;18;10;24 - 00;18;33;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

So at that time and I'll tell you a funny fast forward later. But at that time, what I thought, based on the energy of my vision, the thought that I had was that version of me, the version of me and my vision. This new identity looks at $100,000 and thinks this is just the tip of the iceberg of the wealth I'm creating in my life.

00;18;33;10 - 00;18;46;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

Like, this is the tip of the iceberg of the wealth I'm creating in my life, because, see, my energy was like, oh, this, this last hundred thousand dollars you're ever going to have. You know, it was like there was an energy of like, not only do I not deserve it, but I'm not going to be able to keep it and it's never coming back.

00;18;46;25 - 00;19;08;12

Lauren Brollier Newton

e that time, which is back in:

00;19;08;12 - 00;19;28;23

Lauren Brollier Newton

This is 30 years plus. Well, let me let me put it this way. I probably didn't have I probably didn't have money problems when I was a five year old. Maybe I did, but I can say at least since age 15. So but this point of this story taking place, I had had 15 years of always being in the red, always having credit card debt, not knowing how to manage money.

00;19;28;25 - 00;19;55;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

I start saying this affirmations is just the tip of the iceberg of the wealth I'm going to create. And I literally have never had a money problem since then because I repeated that over, over, over, over again. I didn't let myself think like the old me. I kept thinking like the new me, thinking like a successful person. Now the funny fast forward on that story is I can tell you now that I have generated more wealth and more, abundance in my life.

00;19;55;10 - 00;20;13;01

Lauren Brollier Newton

When I ask myself, what does the current version of me think about getting a $100 check? Like she doesn't really think anything of it. Like, in other words, I'm not. Like now that I have the established vision that I was dreaming about back then, I don't think I would say this is the tip of the iceberg. I would probably say like $100,000.

00;20;13;01 - 00;20;31;15

Lauren Brollier Newton

Like, yeah, let's invest it. So, it's just funny to see, like, you're going to bridge in the best way. You know, how. You're not going to know everything about this new identity, but you're going to know the energetic signature of it enough that you're going to be able to make a really great, statement for yourself to claim the new identity.

00;20;31;15 - 00;20;49;14

Lauren Brollier Newton

And you're really going to be able to see when you're not not thinking like that version of you. So with that said, you're claiming a new identity as a coach this year. You're going to want to know what does the new identity look like? And some of the questions you can ask yourself are, what does that version of me have on their nightstand?

00;20;49;17 - 00;21;07;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

What does that version of me think about when they're washing the dishes? What does that version of me have on their calendar? What does that version of me think about before they go to bed at night and get to know that new identity and just know that you know way more about that new identity than you might think you do.

00;21;07;29 - 00;21;31;08

Lauren Brollier Newton

Okay? So you get to know that new identity, have it written out, have a statement, a vision statement written out what that new identity. The second part is actually using it to think like that person. So you can use it when something pops up, like in the way I just described it. When you notice yourself thinking in total opposition, but you can also do it more preventatively the way I'm talking about it is kind of like triage, right?

00;21;31;08 - 00;21;52;03

Lauren Brollier Newton

I'm already thinking all these, negative thoughts or self-deprecating thoughts, and now I'm just kind of like, you know, trying to hold on to the wound here, but you can do it more preventatively. In other words, you can, let me give you an example of this. Let's say you are washing the dishes while you're washing the dishes tonight.

00;21;52;03 - 00;22;16;19

Lauren Brollier Newton

Just think like a successful person. Think of what you're going to do with your day tomorrow, like you're putting on the energy of this person in your in your vision, this new identity. So for five minutes, just think like that person. So let me give you an example of this. I was just working with a coach, in one of our small group coaching programs, and she was staying at a hotel with her husband for their anniversary trip.

00;22;16;22 - 00;22;42;25

And she was saying, I think I want to host a workshop here. I think I'd love to host clients here, maybe have a retreat here. So she said that she had been going around and she was, looking at the ballroom and stuff and looking at the menu and seeing if she wanted to host a retreat. There. So I just said to her, can I, can I give you, a little bit of coaching around how to even more turn up the volume on this of, of actually having quicker, faster, easier manifestation on this.

00;22;42;25 - 00;22;56;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

And she's like, sure. And I said, rather than looking at the ballroom thinking, I would love to have an event here someday, let me look at the menu, by the way. That's important. We want to do that. So of course she's got to look at the menu and do different things in order to have the event the way she wanted to have it.

00;22;56;12 - 00;23;21;04

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I told her, I'd also love for you to walk by the ballroom and say to yourself, that's where my event is tomorrow. That's where I am. This is the place I hold my workshops to just clean the identity for at least a few minutes, to feel what it feels like, Neville said. The feeling is the secret. If you wash dishes for five minutes tonight, think like you are the person who's going on vacation tomorrow.

00;23;21;04 - 00;23;44;13

Lauren Brollier Newton

If that's your dream. If you work going on vacation tomorrow, what thoughts would you be thinking? And think those thoughts for a few minutes and get used to being that person. It works. I guarantee it. Sometimes people will ask Mary, how fast will my vision come true? And her answer is always as fast as your willingness to get in harmony with it.

00;23;44;15 - 00;24;07;13

Lauren Brollier Newton

Meaning I want that vision and then think thoughts all day that are out of harmony with it. So thinking like the successful person. Okay, so you're thinking the thoughts. Now let me ask you this question. What are the actions you're taking in harmony with this new identity? Because really, until you've acted you haven't made a decision for something.

00;24;07;15 - 00;24;22;04

Lauren Brollier Newton

I'm going to go to Europe in:

00;24;22;11 - 00;24;43;10

Lauren Brollier Newton

But if you buy the airline tickets, okay, now you're doing the thing. So I'm going to invite you to ask yourself, what is a step I can take to actually act on this identity that I want to claim this year? Does that abundant coach take Fridays off? Does that abundant coach book workshops? Is that abundant coach network? Does that abundant coach talk to people?

00;24;43;10 - 00;25;14;22

Lauren Brollier Newton

Does that about a coach carry themselves a certain way? What is the action I can take in harmony with this new identity? What is the action I can take in harmony with this new identity? All right. Beautiful. So you're claiming your identity. You're claiming your identity in thinking. You're claiming your identity by action. A brief thinking institute. We have a format that we like to use to help support our coaches in knowing the building blocks of a highly successful coaching business, and those building blocks.

00;25;14;22 - 00;25;37;06

Lauren Brollier Newton

Our mindset, skill set and action mindset is am I? Do I have the mindset of a highly successful coach? Skill set? Is do I have the skill set of a highly successful coach and action is am I taking the action of a highly successful coach? So if a coach comes to me and they say I'm not having the results I would love, I might ask them, do you think it's a mindset thing, a skill set thing or an action thing?

00;25;37;06 - 00;25;57;13

Lauren Brollier Newton

And they will know, oh, it's I'm not taking action or oh, it's my mindset. They'll know. Here's what I know. When you focus primarily on the mindset, that's what we did today. Thinking like a successful coach, knowing what that is, the skill set and the action come a hundred times easier because you're thinking like the person you want to become.

00;25;57;17 - 00;26;12;27

Lauren Brollier Newton

You're on the frequency of open ideas, flow from the infinite, and so you are going to get an idea that moves you forward, or you're going to say, oh, I think I'll go practice my workshop script, or I think I'll go to that networking meeting. When you're in the right mindset, the skill set in the action become easier.

00;26;12;29 - 00;26;34;00

Lauren Brollier Newton

But if I had to tell you how much of the pie is each of those things in terms of the equation of a highly successful coach, I would say mindsets, probably 80% action is probably 15% and skill sets probably 5%. Have you ever met a person and thought a really successful person and then ended up thinking yourself, they're actually not the brightest crayon in the box.

00;26;34;02 - 00;26;51;21

Lauren Brollier Newton

And I mean that with all love. But sometimes I meet super successful people and I'm like, And this is what I know their skill set maybe isn't even that great, but they have a mindset of a winning and they take action. So the action is going to become very important. Just the mindset alone and then failing to take actions, not going to work.

00;26;51;21 - 00;27;16;17

Lauren Brollier Newton

But what I do know and why I'm saying it's probably 80% is, if you're in a great mindset, you are way less afraid to take action. So we started with the theater. Roosevelt quote by acting as if I was not afraid, I gradually ceased to be afraid by acting as if the successful coach, you will absolutely become the successful coach because frequency, the frequency you're on is what delivers the results.

00;27;16;19 - 00;27;37;26

Lauren Brollier Newton

So we're working here on a mindset of a highly successful coach. That's how you claim it. But completing the circuit means you actually take action. So what action are you going to take? It's been a privilege serving you. I love being with you and I look forward to seeing you on the next episode. Thanks for joining me this week on The Abundant Coach.
