Jesus. Matthew 5:8. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 7 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing. What is purity of heart? Likeness to God, and God is love. Purity of heart happens as the unselfish heart of God begins to define our own heart. This re-orienting of heart starts with the emptying implied in the first few beatitudes in words like poor in spirit, mournful, hungry—and culminates with the filling, transforming work of righteousness and mercy. The pure in heart can see God because they are increasingly like him. Not only will the see him—future—but they see him now, present. Why? Because in becoming more and more like him they begin to participate more and more in his work, and being so closely aligned with his work and mission, they see him showing up more often. Further, being more like him they begin to understand him better. They sense his presence more keenly, because they are growing more familiar with what it looks like.
