Speaker A:

Great day, amazing humans.

Speaker A:

Welcome to the Empowered in My Skin podcast where we have conversations that inform, inspire and remind you that you matter.

Speaker A:

This is the place where we share stories, wisdom and experiences designed to help you live boldly, think empowering thoughts and show up fully in the skin you're in.

Speaker A:

I'm your host, Nkching Wafor, and I'm so glad you're here.

Speaker A:

Now let's get into today's episode.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Great day, amazing humans, and welcome to the first episode of Empowering Bites, season eight.

Speaker A:

New season, new conversations and same mission

Speaker B:

with ideas that help you lead, grow and live with intention.

Speaker A:

I'm Ink and Gabby.

Speaker B:

I'm Gabby with one beat.

Speaker A:

And we're so excited to welcome you back to another season 26 episodes of empowering Bites to keep you, the empower human, ever ready to conquer your day.

Speaker A:

Okay, let's go.

Speaker A:

So today we're going to talk about something that Gabby and I realize that we have so much of.

Speaker A:

We have so much mindful and positivity and empowering products.

Speaker A:

So Gabby gifted me this everyday mindfulness book.

Speaker A:

I know if you're listening we'll, we'll describe it, but it is, it is a book that has three.

Speaker A:

It's 6, 365 Ways to Live a centered life.

Speaker A:

And the way you use it is you just kind of open it up and, and you.

Speaker A:

And it has dates and you read whatever it is for the date and you take action.

Speaker A:

I also have these love powered code cards.

Speaker A:

So these are affirmations to guide you on a self love journey.

Speaker A:

I found I was gifted with calm the cha cards very similar.

Speaker A:

It is, I think there's about 26 cards in this box and these cards are designed 65 simple practices for more peaceful life.

Speaker A:

Then I found these amazing poppet cards.

Speaker A:

One of them on the front of it it says you matter.

Speaker A:

You write a message on the back of it and then you give it to somebody and you can pop it open.

Speaker A:

On the inside of it there's a car.

Speaker A:

There's some message that you don't even know what it is that you're giving.

Speaker A:

So it's like a little bit of a surprise.

Speaker A:

This particular one says you are love just for being who you are, just for existing Ram Dass.

Speaker A:

And so it's sort of like one of those divine when the person gets it's like divine.

Speaker A:

And then I got ones recently same kind of so much product.

Speaker A:

And the same one is you're awesome.

Speaker A:

And so yeah, on the front of it is you're awesome.

Speaker A:

They pop it open, and there's a message on the inside.

Speaker A:

What you got?

Speaker A:

What you got?

Speaker B:

So, to those watching and listening, the reason why we're sharing these with you, and I'll share mine in a moment, is because we really do have a purpose.

Speaker B:

We really do have intention, because we've got a conversation that's going to shift a little bit of how you think and why we have these things around us.

Speaker A:

You spoiled it.

Speaker A:

I wanted you to keep going with all these products and be like, why?

Speaker B:

I just wanted people to stay with us and say, why are they showing

Speaker A:

off all these things?

Speaker A:

It's coming, it's coming, it's coming.

Speaker A:

So she gave you the punchline, but go on.

Speaker A:

What do you got?

Speaker A:

What you got?

Speaker A:

I love it.

Speaker B:

Okay, so I've got mindfulness cards, which come with a little stand.

Speaker A:

Oh, I remember you showed me those.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Every day we change the cards.

Speaker B:

So they've got some mindfulness activities.

Speaker B:

And then I have water cards.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

Like from that.

Speaker A:

That came from power to my skin.

Speaker A:

Carlin Purcell.

Speaker B:

Yes, Water do.

Speaker B:

So I love, love, love this.

Speaker B:

And then my friend Lisa actually gave me a beautiful quote, and I keep it on my desk.

Speaker B:

And what it says is, you can't pour from an empty cup.

Speaker B:

Take care of yourself first.

Speaker A:

That's right.

Speaker B:

And I actually see this every day, and it reminds me of, I need to take breaks.

Speaker B:

I need to stretch.

Speaker B:

I need to exercise.

Speaker B:

I need to take care of myself.

Speaker B:

I need to get some rest.

Speaker B:

So it really does remind me.

Speaker B:

And then I have old.

Speaker B:

But I love it so much.

Speaker B:

Life's little instruction book.

Speaker A:

I love that one.

Speaker B:

I love it.

Speaker B:

I love the shape of it, too, because it's so small, and it really just has, like, little tidbits of information so we can go through that.

Speaker B:

And then, of course, I have a power card.

Speaker A:

So these power cards, I have a whole box.

Speaker A:

I have one.

Speaker B:

You have the whole box.

Speaker B:

And then something that I love, love, love.

Speaker B:

And I think you're gonna recognize the

Speaker A:

logo being part of my skin affirmations.

Speaker A:

Yay.

Speaker B:

Empowered.

Speaker B:

In my skin affirmation cards, which are always nice.

Speaker B:

So why don't you share in why we're showing.

Speaker A:

I also.

Speaker A:

I also can't leave God out of the equation.

Speaker A:

I also have a 365 days of prayer for Christians that bring calm and peace.

Speaker A:

So I read one of these every single day.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So it's interesting because as we talked about, I was, you know, as we were curating this episode for the world for you all, you know, Gabby asked a really Important question.

Speaker A:

And I think it always starts with why?

Speaker A:

So, you know, it's less about the fact that we have all of these products, and it's more about how do we use them.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Because it has nothing to do with the products.

Speaker A:

It's about the purpose, the intention of how we use them.

Speaker A:

So I'll kind of share what.

Speaker A:

How it evolved for me.

Speaker A:

And I.

Speaker A:

And I think maybe the love powered code cards were probably the first.

Speaker A:

And I.

Speaker A:

And I recognize that it was more about recognizing that.

Speaker A:

I recognize that it was more about recognizing it for me, it was more about, like, I didn't want to chance.

Speaker A:

Positive.

Speaker A:

Like, I didn't want to chance being able to reach at, like, mindsets that helped me continue to move forward and not sort of ruminate on the worst of life.

Speaker A:

You know, for me, especially at the time when I was really trying to change my story, change my, like, the narrative and.

Speaker A:

And really be a little bit more empowered and, you know, and so the cards serve a purpose every single day.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Like, and they're strategically positioned in my home.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Like, the mindfulness card is, like, on the kitchen, and I flip it just before I leave the house.

Speaker A:

And typically there's an action that it asks me to do.

Speaker A:

And not only do I do it for myself, but I do it for other humans as well.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Like, where I can.

Speaker A:

I do share.

Speaker A:

I'll park and ask you, like, for you, what?

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker A:

They're more beyond the product.

Speaker A:

What are they for you?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

For me, it's reformatting or reframing my inner narrative.

Speaker B:

And so because I find myself included in many people, we tend to run on autopilot.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

So it's like I say I'm behind or I should be doing more or maybe I'm not doing enough.

Speaker B:

And so when I pick up these affirmation cards or when I look in my book or when I just read one of these mindfulness cards, what it does, it just gives me a new thought and it overrides what the other one isn't serving.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

So it helps me refrain that, reframe that self talk in a more gentler way, in a more supportive way.

Speaker B:

And I just find that it helps me build consistency through repetition.

Speaker B:

So I'm not facing as much pressure as I actually did.

Speaker B:

So like you said, it's not necessarily like, oh, believing the affirmation right away.

Speaker B:

It's giving me space to create a pause between the thought and then the reaction.

Speaker B:

So it really puts it into perspective for me.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And I think the the other thing too that comes up for me is mindfulness is a practice.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

And it's more of a practice than it is a purchase.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

Like, it's more of a practice than it is a product.

Speaker A:

It is, yeah.

Speaker A:

And I know that I needed help in order to develop that practice.

Speaker A:

And so for days where.

Speaker A:

For days where I am not able to reach for it for that thought or for that direction or for that meaningful, you know, message in a moment.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

These are tools that are available to me, like really on, on.

Speaker A:

I keep these in my.

Speaker A:

I keep.

Speaker A:

Sorry.

Speaker A:

For those that are an audio.

Speaker A:

I keep the you matter and the you awesome cards in my purse because sometimes it's less about me, sometimes it's about a random act, a random act of kindness to somebody else.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

So just knowing that I'm giving somebody a positive message in like insights, positivity and good feelings from within me.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

And so I keep those on hand as well.

Speaker A:

Or on the flip side, I meet someone who I feel needs something or I'm called to feel like something's up.

Speaker A:

I need to give them a message that they can go and read whenever they feel.

Speaker A:

And I just place it in their pocket or place it on their desk or something like that.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

At work or, or just to a complete stranger.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Like, so those are really handy.

Speaker A:

But the bottom line is it's, it's about.

Speaker A:

These products have become a tool set or toolkit to support my practice of mindfulness and.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And empowered living every single day.

Speaker B:

I just love that.

Speaker B:

And I love that you would give someone a car just as you're passing their desk.

Speaker B:

I think that's beautiful.

Speaker B:

For me, I find that they're very helpful, like if I'm overwhelmed or if I'm like overstimulated.

Speaker B:

Because sometimes we as humans can struggle to sit for like traditional meditation.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

And so if, if we maybe need some guidance, but not necessarily committing to a very long practice of yoga or meditation, sometimes just picking up a quick card and reading like one sentence can really, really make a deep impact because it's giving you permission to pause.

Speaker A:

Yeah, right.

Speaker B:

It's giving you language that maybe might be other otherwise difficult for you to find.

Speaker B:

So I just, I just love that.

Speaker B:

And you know, I'm all about kindness.

Speaker B:

And so it's, it's, it's giving me kindness myself without any judgment.

Speaker A:

So let's help the listeners that are both watching and listening.

Speaker A:

We're going to use the Love Powered CO cards.

Speaker A:

You have one.

Speaker A:

I don't know which one you Have.

Speaker A:

So I am.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna pick one from my box.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Random pick.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And then we're gonna show them how they can use.

Speaker A:

And again, we're not sponsored by any of these products, but shout outs to Love Powered company.

Speaker A:

I was gifted these cards and I have since paid them forward and have gifted them out to.

Speaker A:

They have a teen box.

Speaker A:

I've just gifted it out to young girls and I've gifted it out to.

Speaker A:

To women in my network.

Speaker B:

Beautiful.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It's a great gift, actually.

Speaker B:

That's lovely.

Speaker A:

So I have my card in hand.

Speaker A:

You have your card in hand.

Speaker A:

Who wants to go first?

Speaker A:

Who do you want to go first?

Speaker B:

Okay, go ahead.

Speaker A:

You go first.

Speaker A:

I've been talking more.

Speaker B:

Okay, super.

Speaker B:

So I pulled my card.

Speaker B:

So here we go.

Speaker B:

I am trusting.

Speaker B:

I am open.

Speaker B:

I am unguarded.

Speaker B:

I let go.

Speaker B:

I let love.

Speaker B:

And I trust.

Speaker B:

I am trusting.

Speaker B:

Can you remember a time when you trusted wholeheartedly?

Speaker B:

How did it make you feel?

Speaker A:

Are you asking?

Speaker A:

So you're asking me?

Speaker A:

I'll ask you.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Well, I don't have to reach too far.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna say right now, I am trusting that everything is working out in my favor.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

I am trusting that in the moments of certainty and uncertainty that I trust Jesus.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

I do.

Speaker A:

I. I trust that if a thought that comes up.

Speaker A:

If a thought comes up right now that has the propensity to derail me.

Speaker A:

I trust that the next thought that I'm able to reach for, will push, will continue to move me forward.

Speaker A:

I trust that I am well supported.

Speaker A:

I trust that I am radically loved and cared for.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

I trust that, You know, continued safety, courage is my portion.

Speaker A:

You know, it's not fleeting.

Speaker A:

That it's not.

Speaker A:

I trust that my life has meaning, and I trust that this moment connects with somebody in a way so deeply do I believe that.

Speaker A:

That they are going to take an action that then empowers another person.

Speaker A:

I deeply believe that.

Speaker A:

I deeply believe that.

Speaker B:

And we believe you.

Speaker B:

That's.

Speaker B:

That was said with conviction.

Speaker B:

That's beautiful.

Speaker A:

I love that card.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker B:

And you went there.

Speaker B:

You know, I was just thinking you were going to tell me.

Speaker B:

But one time.

Speaker B:

But you brought us to church.

Speaker A:

No, I needed.

Speaker A:

I like, you know, I. I have to say.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

Because I think in this season of life and healing.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And I feel emotions coming up.

Speaker A:

Like, I owe it to myself to trust myself to trust.

Speaker A:

Forget about trusting myself.

Speaker A:

I owe it to myself to trust God.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Deeply.

Speaker A:

I read something and not to get too biblical.

Speaker A:

But I read something that was so profound in a Bible app.

Speaker A:

It said that the story of David, right.

Speaker A:

David knew that he was hunted by Saul, but more deeply, he knew that he's pursued by God.

Speaker A:

And that's the level of trust that I am tapping into right now, because it's not just available to me.

Speaker A:

Whatever you believe in that's higher than yourself, there's this.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna say there's this steady stream of trust that you can step right into.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And it's constantly flowing, and you could choose it or not, but it flows all the same.

Speaker A:

So why not just step into it, you know?

Speaker A:

Okay, ready for your question?

Speaker A:

And then we wrap up.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker A:

You're gonna love this one.

Speaker A:

It's mindfulness.

Speaker A:

Mindfulness is your power, Gabby.

Speaker A:

1B.

Speaker A:

I am mindful.

Speaker A:

I am present.

Speaker A:

I am self aware.

Speaker A:

I nestle myself into the present moment, and I observe my thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Speaker A:

I am mindful.

Speaker A:

Gabby, think of a time when you were truly mindful.

Speaker A:

How did it feel?

Speaker B:

That's beautiful.

Speaker B:

First, allow me to have some context about that gentle nudge of mindfulness.

Speaker B:

So, you know, being mindful to me is noticing what's happening right here, now.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Thank you for sharing that.

Speaker B:

For those that are listening, not watching.

Speaker B:

So when I'm being mindful, I need to understand that I don't have to fix anything.

Speaker B:

I. I really just need to notice.

Speaker B:

I need to regulate.

Speaker B:

And so when I take a look at that definition, when have I needed to regulate and be mindful?

Speaker B:

It's with my health.

Speaker B:

You know, I. I know that every single person listening and watching is going through something in their life.

Speaker B:

And, you know, if I had to pick something that maybe does weigh heavily on me, it's my health.

Speaker B:

For those that don't know, I live with ms, and multiple sclerosis is very.

Speaker B:

What's the word I'm looking for?

Speaker B:

It's, you know, I have good days and not so good days, and so.

Speaker B:

And so I have to be mindful when I wake up in the morning.

Speaker B:

You know, I see that people can just jump out of bed and go to the bathroom, but not for me.

Speaker B:

I mean, I have to stretch and I have to move and I have to squeeze, and then I finally put my feet down, and then I have to wake, stand up slowly to make sure that I can actually stand.

Speaker B:

I need to be mindful about every move that I make in the morning after laying down for eight hours for fear that I could fall because maybe I'm Numb or tingling or I have no movement or spastic or whatever.

Speaker B:

So I'm mindful about what goes in my body.

Speaker B:

I'm mindful about moving my fingers to prevent that stiffness that I often feel.

Speaker B:

I remember once you and I were recording and you caught me, I was just like touching my hair and you even asked me, you're like, why are you touching your hair?

Speaker B:

And the reason why is quite often my fingertips are numb, but when they're not numb, I find it fascinating that I can actually feel.

Speaker B:

And, you know, sometimes I take that for granted when I do and it's like, wow.

Speaker B:

And so I don't.

Speaker B:

It's fine for me if people wonder, why are you touching your hair?

Speaker B:

Because for me, it's like, wow.

Speaker B:

I get to feel what it actually feels like to run through my fingers.

Speaker B:

So I, I'm aware of my emotions.

Speaker B:

I'm aware of.

Speaker B:

Of, of.

Speaker B:

Of my emotions without judgment.

Speaker B:

I'm aware of grounding myself in the present moment.

Speaker B:

And this starts with how I communicate to myself, to my family over email through text.

Speaker B:

So, yes, I am very mindful because it helps to regulate my, my nervous system and it helps me respond, not react.

Speaker B:

And it helps me feel present and, and grounded and it speaks and leads to me from a calmer, A calmer place.

Speaker B:

Thank you for that question.

Speaker A:

Well, thank.

Speaker A:

Thank you, Love powered company.

Speaker A:

Thank you for yours as well.

Speaker A:

You couldn't have had a better card.

Speaker A:

This your own single card.

Speaker B:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

And I couldn't have picked a better one for you.

Speaker A:

So thank you and thank you to all the listeners and viewers.

Speaker A:

We are so excited to really step into this season with you.

Speaker A:

And sadly, this is where I have to say I'm ink and I'm Gabby with one B.
