What tool, besides a mirror, can instantly make someone think about themselves, their actions, their language and see how they interact with the environment? A camera.

Video modeling supports all content areas, Ela, ELD, social emotional learning, Math and, of course, target behaviors.


I have used video modeling to capture both behavior and academics when the class is getting it right. For example, when lining up correctly, when sitting with feet on the floor, with quiet hands, looking at teacher, showing they are ready to work. I have snapped images and video of students authentically engaged in their work. 


I then drop these into a Google slides presentation and project it to the whole class. Students respond positively to the attention and this seems to tap into their intrinsic motivation to better meet expectations.

Video Modeling is: Extremely fluid and can be individualized and differentiated to student needs. They can be used to support home-school connections, parental involvement, student self-efficacy, self management and self-determination. Instantly, the student receives feedback from themselves.
