Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

Happy transformed day.

4

:

Transformed conference day.

5

:

Yep.

6

:

That's what I said.

7

:

Yep.

8

:

No, it's not.

9

:

You said transformed him.

10

:

Well, same difference.

11

:

It could be misunderstood though.

12

:

We want to be clear.

13

:

That's what we're after.

14

:

We're a, about the perspicuity

of our communication.

15

:

That makes sense.

16

:

And it is the transform conference date.

17

:

That's that much is true.

18

:

Yes, it is.

19

:

We're excited about that.

20

:

We are so excited about that.

21

:

Kicking off this whole thing.

22

:

I am kicking it off.

23

:

What are you?

24

:

Kicking it off with a football.

25

:

All right.

26

:

Yeah.

27

:

Uh, Nope.

28

:

I am talking about, uh, the, the subject

is marriage and family and why they

29

:

matter, but really I'm going to be

talking about why marriage matters,

30

:

because I think when you get marriage

and the importance of marriage, you get

31

:

the importance of family thrown in there.

32

:

So we're gonna have some other

sessions during the week that are

33

:

gonna be talking about, um, weekend.

34

:

I should say.

35

:

That are gonna be talking about family,

specifically, raising your kids.

36

:

Why church matters on that?

37

:

Some existential threats to the family,

things like that, but this opening message

38

:

is really gonna be about, uh, the idea

that that Satan hates your marriage.

39

:

Um, and because St.

40

:

Nature marriage, you need

to understand two things.

41

:

Number one, he's coming

after your marriage.

42

:

And number two, you need to

strengthen the defenses of your

43

:

marriage because of that reality.

44

:

So, uh, we're gonna be walking

through three threats to your

45

:

marriage that are pretty common

threats that I see over and over and

46

:

over again in the counseling office.

47

:

And then we're gonna be talking about

three areas to strengthen your marriage.

48

:

Uh, to make sure that, that you will

be as strong as possible because when

49

:

the enemy comes, you want to make

sure that your walls are thick and

50

:

you are ready to withstand anything

that is going to bring against you.

51

:

So having strong godly marriages

will yield strong and godly families.

52

:

Now I understand there are.

53

:

People that don't necessarily fit

the typical mold of husband and

54

:

wife or a family that that is the

traditional new nuclear family.

55

:

And yet.

56

:

I think that the, the main backbone

as, as God's design is the traditional

57

:

family and marriage is defined as, as

a man and woman, husband, and wife.

58

:

And so that's where we're going

to be kicking things off on.

59

:

Well tonight.

60

:

And all you have to do is look

around at our culture to see the kind

61

:

of Dibaj living that takes place.

62

:

When men don't step up to take

on their role as husbands.

63

:

And as fathers.

64

:

Uh, the disintegration of the family.

65

:

Directly results in the disintegration

of our local society, our community

66

:

at large our nation as a whole.

67

:

And of course, ultimately the

world suffers when men don't

68

:

rise up to the challenge.

69

:

Yeah.

70

:

The family is so integral to all that we

experienced and enjoy that to not have.

71

:

It is to have effectively

wished for the destruction of

72

:

everything that we know and love.

73

:

And I just look at this, look

at the abortion industry.

74

:

When men don't lead, when families

aren't intact the weak and the

75

:

vulnerable suffer, which is inevitably

always going to be women and children.

76

:

If you want to throw in the

elderly in there too, I think

77

:

that would also be appropriate.

78

:

But without the family, You have the

weak and the vulnerable suffering

79

:

and striving to just eat out a living

because men are not doing their jobs

80

:

as the leaders of their families.

81

:

So marriage and family

is enormously important.

82

:

It is integral to the

functioning of society.

83

:

You get rid of the family, you

might as well throughout the

84

:

whole society, along with it.

85

:

Yeah.

86

:

Yeah.

87

:

And yeah.

88

:

And we want to fight against that.

89

:

And that's why this conference

and why we're going to kick

90

:

off with that subject tonight.

91

:

Sorry, it's going to be good

conference, hoping good helping make it.

92

:

If you're listening to our

voice and you're not signed

93

:

up yet, we'd love to see you.

94

:

There's not too late.

95

:

Still time.

96

:

Yep.

97

:

Yep.

98

:

Sign up the transformed conference.org.

99

:

And if you're listening to this and

you're going, Hey, I want to be there.

100

:

I just money's tight.

101

:

Let us know.

102

:

It won't get you there.

103

:

We will make it happen.

104

:

All right.

105

:

Let's jump into our text, Luke 24 and

John 20 and 21, Luke 24, John 20 and 21.

106

:

We are finishing up the gospels today.

107

:

This is the, uh, the last two

accounts of the resurrection.

108

:

Uh, for us to focus in on and Luke

chapter 24, you have the, the empty

109

:

tomb in verses one through 12.

110

:

Um, You've got the section here

that, that, uh, that we've, we've

111

:

seen that's, that's familiar that

the angels ask, why do you seek

112

:

the living among the dead here?

113

:

Uh, which is just a really.

114

:

Uh, poetic way of saying,

Hey look, Jesus, isn't here.

115

:

He's where he told you he would be.

116

:

Um, The resurrection is in so many

ways, the linchpin of, of our faith.

117

:

That's what Paul says

in first Corinthians 15.

118

:

So reading these stories, it's

important for us not to just, just to

119

:

read it and go, oh yeah, this is the

part where Jesus rises from the dead.

120

:

But to really make sure that our faith

is anchored here, that our faith is.

121

:

Connected to a savior who truly did walk

out of the grave and is resurrected.

122

:

In fact, there are a lot of arguments

against Christianity in one of the

123

:

main areas that people will target

is the reality of the resurrection.

124

:

And so starting from the very beginning,

we've already seen this in the other

125

:

gospel accounts where the Pharisees

are saying, well, it's a stolen body

126

:

that, that perpetuated that, that.

127

:

Took off like wildfire and

people said, well, the disciples

128

:

stole the body from the tomb.

129

:

Other suggested, well, they

went to the wrong tomb.

130

:

So that's why the tomb was empty.

131

:

Some others have even suggested Jesus

never actually died on the cross.

132

:

He just fainted the spoon theory.

133

:

Uh, talks about that and others have

said, no, this was a body double.

134

:

Uh, somebody that looked

like Jesus who died.

135

:

And so these are all arguments

that are raised against the

136

:

reality of the empty tomb.

137

:

And there are all responses that we

don't really have the time to get

138

:

into all the responses to these.

139

:

Uh, right now, but I think one of the

greatest ones is the transformation

140

:

of the disciples, which we're going

to see starting tomorrow in the book

141

:

of acts right off the bat with Peter.

142

:

Uh, when you see such a radical

transformation in the lives of these

143

:

disciples who ran from the cross.

144

:

You have to ask yourself

what changed, what.

145

:

Peter from denying Jesus three times

to being willing to stand up in front

146

:

of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish council

and say, Hey, you crucified him.

147

:

God raised him.

148

:

And he's both Lord and savior right now.

149

:

So as one of the main evidences, but

the resurrection matters intensely

150

:

is what we're driving out here.

151

:

Uh, verses 13 through 35, then.

152

:

The road to a mass, you

have two disciples that.

153

:

Following the crucifixion and actually

unbeknownst to them following the

154

:

resurrection, they still don't

know that Jesus has risen yet,

155

:

but they're on their way to a mass

and they're not in a good place.

156

:

They, Luke 24 21 had hoped

notice the past tense there.

157

:

They had hoped that he was going to be the

Messiah and because of the crucifixion.

158

:

They're walking away

thinking, man, we were wrong.

159

:

Here's another failed Messiah.

160

:

Just like some of the

intertestamental messiahs that

161

:

rose up and we were wrong again.

162

:

So here we go.

163

:

Back to our existence and trying to

figure out how to pick up the pieces.

164

:

Well then Jesus steps

in, in verses 25 to 27.

165

:

And it's only described in three

verses there, but this must've been the

166

:

greatest sermon ever preached because

Jesus goes back to the old Testament

167

:

and shows how all of it pointed to

the reality of his suffering, his

168

:

resurrection, the cross, all of it.

169

:

And then eventually they get to, to the

house that they're going to Jesus there.

170

:

Brix bread with them.

171

:

And it's there during that meal

together, they're in that intimate

172

:

time together that Jesus makes himself

known, reveals himself to them.

173

:

And then they spread out and they go

tell the other disciples, just a really

174

:

cool account, unique to Luke here

that we get with the road to a mass.

175

:

This is why we think that all

of scripture eventually, and,

176

:

and ultimately points to Christ.

177

:

Uh, you can overdo this and

there's a way to make every jot and

178

:

tittle speak about Christ and Cho

force things that are not there.

179

:

But suffice it to say that the long

stroke, the long strokes of it, the

180

:

broad strokes of scripture are eventually

going to find their fulfillment in Jesus.

181

:

And of course, Jesus affirms as he says,

the law and the prophets, they pointed to

182

:

me, I am the fulfillment of those things.

183

:

Uh, everything, uh, that, that

even the law itself, Jesus would

184

:

say in the gospel of Matthew.

185

:

He says that the law is fulfilled.

186

:

I am the fulfillment of those things.

187

:

So everything eventually

finds his termination.

188

:

It's tell us in Christ.

189

:

And that's, what's exciting

about what these guys see.

190

:

We're still carrying on

that tradition today.

191

:

We say the same thing

that Jesus is saying.

192

:

We're going to look at.

193

:

Uh, the Moses and the prophets and

interpret to everyone how these

194

:

scriptures eventually point to Jesus

Christ and how they're fulfilled in him.

195

:

Yep.

196

:

Uh, versus 36 through 49, then

you get the incredulous disciples.

197

:

He appears to the group now

the whole group, and he shows

198

:

them the marks on his body.

199

:

He eats in front of them, which

is demonstrating the fact that

200

:

he had a real physical body.

201

:

I was listening to somebody recently

talk about, um, modern day Gnosticism

202

:

and Gnosticism was, was this idea

that, that the physical was, was evil.

203

:

That the spiritual was, was the

preferred and, and it's all about

204

:

mysticism and experiences and everything.

205

:

There's something here where Jesus is

doing something with his disciples.

206

:

He does this twice.

207

:

He does it here as they're incredulous.

208

:

Not, not sure if they're

seeing a ghost or not.

209

:

He eats in front of them.

210

:

And then we're going to see in

John 21 later on in our texts,

211

:

he's going to sit down and have

breakfast with the disciples there.

212

:

He's showing them that man, his

resurrected body is a tangible, real

213

:

body that is able to enjoy food.

214

:

That points to the realities that

we're going to enjoy together.

215

:

And the new earth eventually as we have

our own glorified bodies at that point.

216

:

So, uh, Jesus here appears to

them, says, look, here's my body.

217

:

You can touch me, watch

I'm eating this food here.

218

:

Um, and then he commissions them.

219

:

And in verse 27, he says, look

now, what do you need to do?

220

:

You need to take the message

of repentance for forgiveness.

221

:

To everyone to spread it out to all

of the nations he says, which would

222

:

include us as the Gentiles there.

223

:

And so that's the meeting there in

that upper room, as he appears to them.

224

:

Uh, and then he has the Ascension

in verses 50 through 53.

225

:

Does Luke and Luke will expand

on that in acts chapter one.

226

:

And, and give us a little bit more there,

but this is where Jesus on the Mount of

227

:

olives goes up and is caught up into the

air and goes to take a seat at the right

228

:

hand of the father until the father.

229

:

I should send them to

come back for his bribe.

230

:

And then we finished the gospel of Luke.

231

:

Yep.

232

:

Well done.

233

:

Or we're a bit, we're going

to finish the gospels today.

234

:

Yeah, this is amazing.

235

:

We kind of glanced over this at

the beginning of this podcast.

236

:

You, but that's a really great, yeah,

you're continuing to be in your Bible now.

237

:

You've seen the Bible

kind of weave together.

238

:

Um, in an, in a very appropriate

way, there's multiple ways to do

239

:

this and you can get more granular

in how, how much you interweave it.

240

:

But I think what we just did these last,

what was 20, 25 days or so that we were

241

:

in the gospels has been so helpful.

242

:

I mean, just.

243

:

On your own reflections, pastor

PJ, what were some of your,

244

:

have you ever done this before?

245

:

Read the gospels this way.

246

:

Uh, in a, in a harmony this way.

247

:

Not yet.

248

:

In their entirety.

249

:

Uh, There, you know, you use

harmonies when you're doing some

250

:

sermon prep and things like that.

251

:

How there's parallel accounts,

but not like this in the entirety.

252

:

And so it was, yeah, it was super

beneficial to see, uh, the overlap and the

253

:

parallels and the parallel accounts and

how you can pick up different things from

254

:

things that otherwise we would have said,

oh, it's the same story and just moved on.

255

:

Yeah.

256

:

So congratulations to you.

257

:

If you, if you're a bit, if you've

been with us this whole time, you've

258

:

been reading with us every day.

259

:

Well done.

260

:

I keep it.

261

:

I keep an eye on the, on the stats

for our podcast, just to kind of get

262

:

a sense of who's tracking with us.

263

:

So I know that there've been some

that had dropped off for I'm sure.

264

:

Various good reasons,

whatever they might be.

265

:

And hopefully they're still

reading, but you're here.

266

:

You're doing it.

267

:

We're proud of you.

268

:

Good job.

269

:

Let's jumped in that to you.

270

:

Let's jump to John rather,

John:

271

:

You're Aboriginal.

272

:

It's so good.

273

:

I wanted another chapter here.

274

:

It is.

275

:

All right, John 20, the empty

tomb verses one through 10.

276

:

Um, You've got again, this idea of

faith, but without full understanding

277

:

here and that's to be expected, right?

278

:

We read these things through the eyes

of, of:

279

:

Th they're trying to.

280

:

Figure this stuff out real time.

281

:

And, and so John and Peter, they.

282

:

They show up there and they go in and

they believe, but it says in verse

283

:

nine, they did not yet understand.

284

:

And so they're, they're understanding.

285

:

Enough to know something's happening,

something's going on, but they don't

286

:

yet fully comprehend what's going on.

287

:

They leave.

288

:

And then this is that scene.

289

:

This is Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

290

:

And Mary Magdalene is

still there at the tomb.

291

:

And she's distraught not

knowing what has happened.

292

:

Still not understanding, like

I was just talking about.

293

:

She sees the resurrected savior.

294

:

She assumed that he must be the gardener.

295

:

And she falls at his feet and

says, where have you taken him?

296

:

And Jesus in this touching

moment just simply says her name.

297

:

And she immediately immediately

understands who it is and she calls

298

:

him, her, her teacher, her rabbi, it's

this touching moment between the Lord

299

:

and one of his most devoted followers.

300

:

Mary's the one who loved much

because she was forgiven much.

301

:

And so here you see this amazing

interchange there between Jesus

302

:

and Mary in verses 11 through 18.

303

:

Verses 19 through 23, then.

304

:

Uh, you've got Jesus with his disciples

in that upper room scene there and

305

:

here he breathes on them to impart

to them the holy spirit, which calls

306

:

to mind the initial act of creation.

307

:

Genesis two, seven,

God breathed into Adam.

308

:

The breath of life here.

309

:

Jesus is symbolically breathing on

the disciples and he's imparting

310

:

to them the holy spirit now.

311

:

They received the holy spirit here,

but the full realization of that is not

312

:

going to come until the day of Pentecost.

313

:

We're going to see that later on when the,

in, in acts chapter two, where the, the

314

:

spirit descends us as tongues of fire.

315

:

And that's when, okay.

316

:

Th that's when things are.

317

:

For lack of a better term activated at

that point, but this is that ceiling.

318

:

Of them with the gift of the holy

spirit here by Jesus in the upper room.

319

:

Versus 24 through 29, then you've got one

of the disciples who struggled to, uh,

320

:

to be on board because he wasn't there.

321

:

When Jesus showed up in the

upper room, that's Thomas Thomas

322

:

shows up, he says, wait a minute.

323

:

I don't know if I'm on board with this.

324

:

This is crazy.

325

:

Uh, and it would have been crazy.

326

:

And so I think Thomas

gets a bad rap, but I.

327

:

I mean, Peter and John were kind of

there to They saw the empty tomb and

328

:

they're like, we don't understand,

but we're going to run away.

329

:

But Thomas wasn't with him.

330

:

Right.

331

:

He w he, why was he not there?

332

:

Well, that's a good question.

333

:

And that's where, that's where,

that's where I w sorry, Thomas.

334

:

I know if you're watching or listening

from heaven, you're probably taking

335

:

issue with me right now and that's okay.

336

:

Um, I'm willing to hold my own.

337

:

And I'm willing to be corrected,

but Thomas was nowhere to be found.

338

:

They were, they were

supposed to be together.

339

:

There has been down picking up

some McDonald's for the group.

340

:

It may be, but I, I, I tend

to feel and given his re res.

341

:

I don't know his resistance to the

testimony of all the guys that he's

342

:

with guys that he has spent the last

three years with, they're saying,

343

:

Thomas, this is what happened.

344

:

Nope.

345

:

Unless an.

346

:

Unless I do this and he's adding

his own qualifiers, which.

347

:

For all that I could charge

him against Jesus takes.

348

:

Compassion upon him.

349

:

And he meets him exactly where

he is, which I find so attractive

350

:

that Jesus would do that.

351

:

So incredibly kind of him to do that.

352

:

But I, I would, man, if I were I'd

punched Thomas, if I were one of his

353

:

friends, But dude, you're in wrong here.

354

:

Yeah.

355

:

Right in the face.

356

:

Well, Jesus is gracious to him and

Thomas confesses, my Lord, my doubt,

357

:

one of the greatest confessions, right?

358

:

And then Jesus says in verse 29, and this

helps us understand verses 30 through

359

:

31, the purpose of John as well, because

Jesus has have you believe because

360

:

you've seen me blessed are those who

have not seen and yet believe, okay,

361

:

so who have not seen in yet believe.

362

:

And then John goes on to say,

look, that's why I wrote the book.

363

:

I wrote the book verse 31.

364

:

So that those of you who weren't there

to see it, you might believe that

365

:

Jesus is the Christ, the son of God and

believing you might have life in his name.

366

:

So there's a connection there between

verses 29 and verses 30 through 31,

367

:

which is, I think why John wrote

that part there, even though it's

368

:

not the conclusion of the book is

not the introduction to the book.

369

:

It's kind of awkwardly almost at the

end of the book, but not quite there.

370

:

I've always kind of wondered why I think

it's connected to Thomas' statement

371

:

there and Jesus's response to Thomas.

372

:

Verse 21 then, um, The

disciples are gathered.

373

:

This is where I'm going

to take issue chapter 21.

374

:

Chapter 21.

375

:

Thanks.

376

:

We can call it.

377

:

Verse 21, just a big

verse, verse 21 chapter 22.

378

:

Um, yeah, chapter 21.

379

:

Thank you.

380

:

Uh, this is where I take issue because

Jesus had called the disciples away

381

:

from what now they returned to.

382

:

Uh, after the resurrection

Peter declares, Hey, I'm going

383

:

to, I'm going to go fishing.

384

:

This is not while Jesus was in the tomb.

385

:

This is not, this is after

he had seen Jesus alive.

386

:

This is after all of these things.

387

:

Peter, hasn't been back fishing that

we know of in the last three years.

388

:

And now all of a sudden he's sitting

there going, okay, well, I guess I'm

389

:

just going to go back fishing and

the rest of my, like, yeah, let's go.

390

:

This, I think salsa suggest too

that when they called, when Jesus

391

:

called them, that maybe they

didn't get rid of all their stuff.

392

:

Right.

393

:

Put him first, but they didn't

get rid of their supplies because

394

:

they're able to recover them and

utilize them for their occupation.

395

:

True.

396

:

Yeah.

397

:

Yeah.

398

:

And so it's, it's interesting

because Jesus calls them back

399

:

away from that in a very similar

fashion to how he first called them.

400

:

To, to be as followers to begin

with all the way back in Luke five.

401

:

So in Luke five, they were out fishing.

402

:

He said, Hey, why don't

you cast on the other side?

403

:

And they're like, okay,

whatever, we'll try it, but okay.

404

:

Fine.

405

:

Well, this time Jesus comes back

and he does something very similar.

406

:

He says to them, He says,

Hey, have you caught anything?

407

:

And they, they say,

well, no, of course not.

408

:

He says, well, why don't you let down

your nets again, they bring up this

409

:

massive haul of fish and that's the

moment that Peter recognizes Jesus.

410

:

And so Jesus does this thing

reveals himself sometimes.

411

:

And Peter jumps in the

water and swim to shore.

412

:

Meanwhile, the other guys are

in the boat that just kind of

413

:

cruise back by Peter going, we'll

meet you back on shore, Peter.

414

:

Um, and, and they've got

this massive haul of fish.

415

:

And so I think the significance of this

event is it's bookending it's Jesus

416

:

had called them initially away from

fishing to be as his fishers of men.

417

:

And he's doing the same thing again here.

418

:

Post-resurrection saying, Hey,

remember what your job is.

419

:

Your job is not to go fish for

fish it's to go fish for men.

420

:

And that's what you're going to do.

421

:

Verses 15 through 19.

422

:

Then Peter here I believe is, is restored.

423

:

Um, As he had denied Jesus three times.

424

:

I think that's why Jesus

asks him three times.

425

:

If he loves him now.

426

:

Ah, there.

427

:

Aye.

428

:

People go back and forth on this.

429

:

Do do the different Greek

words here, meaning something.

430

:

And I think they do.

431

:

Um, Jesus says to Peter, do you a gappy?

432

:

Me?

433

:

That's the selfless fatherly love.

434

:

That's the self-sacrificing love

that has the interest of the

435

:

other person completely mine.

436

:

Peter says, I owe you, which is

the brotherly love the mutual love.

437

:

I feel that Ooh.

438

:

Jesus.

439

:

Again, Jesus says, Peter,

do you again, pay me?

440

:

And Peter again says Loda.

441

:

I for LA.

442

:

Oh, you.

443

:

And so finally Jesus asks

Peter, do you follow me?

444

:

Do you really follow me?

445

:

Do you even have this

brotherly love for me?

446

:

And that's where, where Peter is grieved.

447

:

He says, Lord, you know these things.

448

:

And so in, in, after each of

these Jesus is charging Peter.

449

:

With what he's about to do in the

book of acts, which is you need to,

450

:

you need to take care of my sheep.

451

:

Take care of my flock, feed my flock.

452

:

And so Jesus is restoring Peter and

preparing him for the ministry ahead.

453

:

Uh, and yet there's still

some evidence here that, that

454

:

Peter needs some growth still.

455

:

Peter's not fully baked yet.

456

:

Uh, even though this is a N a restoration

point, there's still some work that

457

:

Peter needs to do as evidenced by the

difference in the Greek words there.

458

:

And I really appreciate

this, this tender scene.

459

:

I can't.

460

:

Uh, I can't articulate quite what it

means to me, but I just feel like.

461

:

Jesus.

462

:

Meets all of us failures,

exactly where we are.

463

:

And, and the same at the same

number of rejections that

464

:

Peter uttered against Christ.

465

:

He now utters affirmations

about his love for Christ.

466

:

Um, and I think all of us know what

that feels like intuitively all of

467

:

us know what it feels like to, to say

no to Jesus when he really wanted to

468

:

say yes, and yet her flesh is weak.

469

:

As Jesus also identified.

470

:

In the garden.

471

:

He told him, Hey, pray, be on

guard because the temptation

472

:

is going to be strong.

473

:

The spirit is willing.

474

:

I know that the inner person.

475

:

Yearns for this righteousness

yearns to be faithful.

476

:

And yet the outer person is weak and needs

to be brought into line with the inner.

477

:

And that's where prayer comes in.

478

:

But here, because of Peter's

failure, Jesus reaches down.

479

:

Pulls him back on his feet as it were.

480

:

And gives him three opportunities

to affirm were previously denied.

481

:

I love this about Jesus.

482

:

This draws me to him so much more than

it would if he were shaming, Peter

483

:

to say, why aren't you better, buddy?

484

:

Why don't you just figure this out?

485

:

Why can't you just be more

like, you know, someone else.

486

:

I love this, this beautiful scene.

487

:

Yeah.

488

:

Yeah.

489

:

Well, the, the bookends with, uh, Peter

attorney and seeing John who's kind of

490

:

hanging in the background, listening.

491

:

And while all this is going

on and pure looks at John and

492

:

says, Hey, What about him?

493

:

What's going to happen to that guy.

494

:

And Jesus tells Peter, he

says, look my timidness, right?

495

:

Right.

496

:

What does it to you follow me?

497

:

I love that.

498

:

Right?

499

:

What is it to you?

500

:

Follow me and listen.

501

:

Church.

502

:

I think we would benefit

from that in so many ways.

503

:

There are rabbit trails that, um,

Sensationalism there's there's stories

504

:

out there that even the, the stories

of, of pastoral failure recently, if you

505

:

want it to, you could run down all of

the different investigations and the X

506

:

threads and everything else like that.

507

:

Chasing all of that.

508

:

I think there are times as Christians,

we need to heat Jesus' words here

509

:

and say, what is that to you?

510

:

You follow me.

511

:

And make sure that you're following me.

512

:

I'm not saying those things don't

matter, but I'm saying leave

513

:

them to the Karen concern of

those directly involved with it.

514

:

I think when we become spiritual

voyeurs, as it were and wants to

515

:

stick our nose into to things that

really, we have no sway in or saying.

516

:

It does damage to our own

relationship with Christ.

517

:

It makes us gossip hunters.

518

:

Instead of saying, man, I need to

be devoted to Jesus and trust God

519

:

to handle those details through the

people that are involved in that.

520

:

And so Jesus looks at him

and says, Hey, you know what?

521

:

What does that to you?

522

:

You follow me?

523

:

I think that's such a good

challenge to us to remember that

524

:

that's our basic need in life.

525

:

That's what work, our

callers follow Jesus.

526

:

I like the mind.

527

:

Oh, goodness translation.

528

:

That's a that's mine.

529

:

Yeah, that's fine.

530

:

Translation that's fair rods.

531

:

Appropriation of the Greek there,

but I think it's helpful because

532

:

somebody tells you, you can look at.

533

:

Why is that person doing better than I am?

534

:

Right.

535

:

They're married and I'm not.

536

:

I'm far more attractive than they

are, and I'm a much better person.

537

:

Y right there, or, you know, Th the, the

comparisons that we played the lateral,

538

:

like, well, his life is better than mine.

539

:

You know, he, his, his wife is

more submissive or whatever it is

540

:

that we, the games that we play

inside of our hearts and heads.

541

:

Um, it's so important that you,

we see what Jesus is doing here.

542

:

Jesus treats all of us individually.

543

:

He doesn't do cookie cutter disciples.

544

:

All of us start from different places

and we all have different end points.

545

:

Ultimately we're all looking like

Jesus at the end, but how we get

546

:

there is going to look vastly

differently depending on what God

547

:

deemed necessary for each of our lives.

548

:

So it was so important that you hear it.

549

:

Here Jesus to Peter.

550

:

Might've been this.

551

:

Pray for each other care for one

another, but ultimately don't compare

552

:

yourself against someone else's story.

553

:

God's doing different things

to different people's lives.

554

:

Be okay with that.

555

:

Yep.

556

:

Yeah, that's a good word.

557

:

Let's pray.

558

:

God.

559

:

We want to be those that, uh,

that have that as our goal.

560

:

We want to follow Christ.

561

:

We don't want to get distracted.

562

:

We don't want to get sidelined.

563

:

We don't want to look back over our

shoulder at what we were doing before

564

:

you called us away from it and say,

well, maybe I can just go back to that

565

:

and, and not have to, to be on mission.

566

:

Like God has called me to be on mission.

567

:

I pray that you keep us against that, that

temptation, that you keep us focused on

568

:

what we're here to do to exalt Christ,

to, uh, to engage the culture around

569

:

us, with the gospel and to really seek,

to be as equipped as we possibly can

570

:

with the good news, to be as sharp an

instrument in your hand, to go out and

571

:

reach people for Christ and know Christ

to make him know that that's our desire.

572

:

God, we want to do that.

573

:

We want that to be who we are as a church.

574

:

We want the stories.

575

:

Of sharing the gospel and having

people to come to faith in Christ.

576

:

We want those two, two.

577

:

Uh, be abundant within our midst and

so help us God to have that mindset,

578

:

that mentality to say, Hey, you

know what, follow me, come after me.

579

:

Go out.

580

:

And, uh, and, and fish for

men, don't fish for fish.

581

:

Fish for men.

582

:

And so God, we want to

be fruitful to that end.

583

:

We proved that that would

be true of us as a church.

584

:

It comes to proper church.

585

:

Amen.

586

:

Amen.

587

:

Keeping your Bibles turn again

tomorrow for another edition

588

:

of the daily Bible podcast.

589

:

Book of acts folks.

590

:

See you then.

591

:

Bye.
