Second Kings 18.

It has a guy that takes the throne

and king HESI is a good king.

Um, one of the best by and large.

I mean, he has some bumps in

the road as every king does, but

by and large, he's a good king.

He takes over, he purchased

the land to the high places.

So right there, that should be an

immediate sign because so many of the

good Kings that we've read about prior

it's, uh, they were a good king, but they

didn't purge the land of the high places.

King has, he takes a throne, gets

the high places out of there.

Verses five through six, his trust

in the Lord was greater than any

of the Kings of Judah who had

proceeded him or who'd follow him.

I'm curious to get your take on this past

road, but I take that as not including

Solomon and David, because it separates

out the Kings of Judah, which would

have referred to the divided kingdom,

not necessarily the United model.

So, this is not saying that, Hey,

he was a better king or, or a more

faithful kingdom, David or Solomon.

Th these are the Southern

Kings that he's talking about.

David is the high point.

He did what was right in the eyes

of the Lord, according to all

that David, his father had done.

So I think David is kind of the, he's

the standard, the standard, right?

his father had offered tributes to

to refuse and rebel against them.

turn the tide a little bit here.

Uh, verses nine through 12, during the

early years of his reign, the Northern

kingdom falls to a Syria taking many

of the people captive because they

had not listened to or bait the Lord.

So there's the XL, the Northern

kingdom forest, and second

Kings 18 verses nine through 12.

Uh, versus 23 through 27, then.

Uh, has the kind of trust in

the Lord does falter though, a

Syrah that comes against Judah.

And instead of again, just

trusting the Lord, he attempts

to appease the Assyrians here.

And so, like I said, there's

some bumps in the road, but by

and large, he's a good king.

Uh, this appeasing doesn't work.

The Assyrian send an Envoy to

TA and manipulate the people.

12, This is the fall of Israel.

seeing this in scripture.

Second Kings 18 details.

The fall of the Northern

kingdom they're done now.

You're never going to see them

back on the scene except into the

millennial kingdom they're done.

And they're still scattered.

We don't know where they are.

Northern kingdom.

This is where you're going to stop

seeing anything else in second

Kings about the Northern kingdom,

because they were obliterated.

Israel is still gonna be on the

scene with some of our profits.

As far as being a separate entity,

they're gone now, some of the remnant

will come back and restore and be

restored post to exile, to Israel.

Efrain is no more.

They are now going to be part of,

they're just joining themselves

to true Israel scattered that way.

There's second Kings 18, second

Chronicles 29, then, uh, there's

going to be parallels here.

We've got Hezekiah in view in second

Chronicles, 29 verses one through 19,

we get a little bit more in depth here.

One of the first things has a kind

of did, was he set out to clean

and re consecrate the temple.

So some of what's implied in second

Kings 18 is specifically stated

here in second Chronicles, 29.

And so he consecrates, it, he consecrates

the priests, he removes all of the

idols and the filth and everything

else that accumulated there under the

reign of eight has a, and the priest.

Again, they, they consecrate themselves

to get ready to resume their proper roles.

And then after the temple

was consecrated prepared.

He orders worship in sacrifices to resume.

And so this was marked

by this large assembly.

Thousands of animals are sacrificed

sin offerings, reminiscent of the

day of atonement with the two goal.

Uh, goats.

So you're going to see there, it wasn't

the David Toman, but similar to that,

there's these two goats that are there.

Uh, the sin offerings

are going to be offered.

The musicians are back.

The singers are back.

This is a, this is a brief high point.

In Judah's existence now, less, you

get too optimistic and think, yay.

It's not going to last.

This is not going to be.

Enough to stave the hand of God's

judgment from coming against his people.

But Hezekiah is doing what's

right here in this passage.

And I guess in chapter 30, you're

you're headed that direction.

I I'm impressed by the fact that

Hezekiah just doesn't restore

Passover to the Southern kingdom.

He invites a Northern

tribe to be part of this.

This is especially remarkable because

of course, you know, the Northern tribes

don't have anything to do with the

Southern tribes in terms of their worship.

Number Bethel and Dan there,

they have their, their calves

that are situated there.

And yet has a Chi in his zeal for the

Lord, his love for the Lord, his desire

for God's holiness and his reverence.

He invites his brothers.

Uh, in the flesh, that is

his, his Israelite brothers.

Just say, Hey, be part of

this, come back to the Lord.

And I think this is incredibly

commendable, that the heart of

a, of a person who wants to see

revival is not satisfied with,

let me just revive my heart.

Let me just have my family be revived.

Let me just have my little

church of 200 and however many

people God has in our ranks.

We're not, we're never

satisfied with that.

A truly Gabi person who really

wants revival once God honored.

Wants revival to spread beyond

the gates of theirs and their own.

And I hope that you guys see some of this

and you're inspired to say, man, I want.

I want our church to experience

revival, certainly, but I want Frisco

and I want north Texas as a region

to know revival, to know the true

God to love him, to Revere him.

And to surrender their Alton

much like has a Chi does here.

What a good example for us.

It is a good example.

And it's, it's interesting because

some of the people that come, uh,

they don't have time to, to consecrate

themselves before the Passover fee.

So it has a.

That's interesting.

Praise and says, Hey God, can

you still accept their sacrifice?

And he does.

And he does amazing does

because of his mercy.

Because again, it's not about

going through the motions.

It's about the heart.

And so I think what that implies is

those that were coming for this did

have that broken and contrite spirit.

They had that right heart before God.

They weren't just there

to go through the motions.

And so that, that's why I think God

said, yeah, I'll, I'll accept it.

Is there an application

there that we could.

Take and adopt in the new Testament

because God doesn't have us

worship the same way in the NewTek.

There's not specific prescribed

means of approaching him.

Like there was back in this time.

Is there something that you could

see that would be helpful for us

to say, oh, I see how that might

connect to a new test and experience.

Yeah.

I think when we, when we sin, I

think one of the enemy's greatest

ploys is to say, you can't pray.

You can't show up at church, you can't.

Cause he, he heaps the shame,

heaps of guilty heats heaps, the

condemnation of our sin upon us.

And it's as though.

Okay, well, God's not going

to accept your repentance.

God's not gonna accept your worship.

God's not going to accept your fellowship.

Uh, because of your sin.

And so I think there's maybe a

correlation there to say, you know what.

If you come with that broken a

contract heart, and you truly broken

over your sin, that that's the safest

place for us is to flee to the, the

cross is to fleet or to the, to,

to God and seek forgiveness there.

Otherwise we're like Adam and Eve in the

garden when God came looking for them.

Posts in, they hit, they didn't come

to God, they hit, but, but God in

his grace drew them out from their

hiding by saying, where are you?

Right.

And so I think likewise.

Just like these people were still defiled

ceremonially when they came to worship.

And yet God still accepted that

worship because you saw their hearts.

Uh, you may.

Be defiled with, with your

sin, so to speak, but there's

still a path through Christ.

And through a broken encounter

at heart to bring your worship

and prayers to the Lord still.

And I think about a lot of new

believers who come to church and

they're not sure what the right

thing is to do, you know, is.

This, I don't know the song lyrics,

but I think you can still bring

your all to God and your heart.

Um, and still have that be acceptable.

God doesn't need you to precisely

follow the, the regulated principles

of church service or singing

the right lyrics on the slide.

Just give him your heart.

I think that's what matters.

That's what he wants.

It is second Chronicles, 31, then.

Uh, Hezekiah begins to reorganize

rather and commissioned the

priests for their regular duties.

And so here's some administrative

details going on here.

Uh, and along with this, he's going to

command that the people resume their

offerings and ties to support the priest.

Who's, he's really trying to get

everything operating gains smoothly,

the way it used to operate.

And he's doing this because

this is what God's desire was.

This is the way that it should go.

And so he's focusing on those there.

I guess one more note back in.

Uh, chapter 30, look at verse 26.

This is just a note of, of the atmosphere.

There, there was great joy in Jerusalem

for since the time of Solomon,

the son of David King of Israel.

There had never been anything

like this in Jerusalem.

So this is a high point.

This is a high water mark

in the divided kingdom.

They've never had this much

positivity and joy going on since.

The time of Solomon, which is exciting.

Good time.

This is a time of revival

for the people of Judah.

And this is a great thing.

We should pray for this.

Let me just make one point in

chapter 31, because we just

talked about God wants your heart.

That doesn't mean that God doesn't

care about what his word says.

Clearly in chapter 31, Hezekiah is

promoted and honored because he's

organizing the priests who were

responsible for making sure that the

worship in the temple was appropriate

was according to the regulations.

In fact, verse 29, excuse me, verse.

21, every work that he undertook in

the service of the house of God and

in accordance with the law and the

commandments seeking his God, he did

with all his heart and prospered.

So it's not just the heart that God wants.

Although he wants that.

If you have to choose between one

and the other, he wants your heart.

Yeah.

But in addition to your heart, A heart

that truly loves him will seek to say,

what does your word say about this?

I want to be precise.

I want to do what you want.

That's the heart of a true disciple.

That's a heart of someone who truly

loves him and wants to serve him.

Well, the heart.

And the actions married together has

a Chi shows us a good example of this.

Well, some 48.

When you turn over some 48, you're going

to read in the title, a song of som

of the sons of Korah the sons of core

being some of the temple singers there.

And so this doesn't say anything

contextually that it would lead us

to say, this is when this took place.

Or this is when this Psalm

is describing the events that

took place in this situation.

So we don't know.

I mean, when you look at this,

this is a Psalm of celebration

and joy, and it certainly fits

what we were just talking about.

The, the joy with the people of

Judah as under Hezekiah's reign,

they kind of returned to the Lord.

They got things back in order again,

it's, it's not going to last and

we know that, but Hey, In the short

term, it looks like things are going

to, to turn out well and, and do,

uh, and, and, and look good for them.

And so this song that we don't know

exactly where it goes, does fit the

context like verse 11, let, Mount, Zion

be glad that the daughters of Judah

rejoice because of your judgments.

And so there's a.

Uh, joy that's going on there.

They're not fearing the Lord.

They're excited.

Well, not fearing them in a, in a bad way.

They're excited.

They're they're returning to him.

The sacrifices are happening.

So I'm 48 does fit the medically.

And even as pastor rod was saying, God,

we pray for that heart for those around

us, that we would not just care about.

Uh, those within the four walls of our

church, but that we would be, uh, are

constantly aware of the needs around us

for people to, to bow that need to cry,

need a Christ in faith in repentance.

And so give us a, an evangelist zeal that.

Uh, that is contagious.

And God help us to identify those in our

neighborhoods, our workplaces, our homes.

That need to hear the gospel

and give us open doors for that.

I pray even this week that you would give

us a divine appointment to open doors.

That would be just blatantly obvious that

we would have to willfully ignore not

to walk through and share the gospel.

And yet I pray that we wouldn't

ignore them, that we would take that

opportunity to tell people about Christ.

And that we would care enough about our,

our, our fellow human beings all around

us to, to want them to follow Jesus the

way that has a Chi wanted those in the

north to come back and return to the Lord.

And so give us that mindset, keep us from

a heart of pride, fullness and arrogance

and conceit that would say, well, we've

got ours who cares about everybody else?

Give us a heart that is rich.

And in, in.

Uh, in, in primed to pursue

the lost in our lives.

So we pray this in Christ's name.
