We’re talking about painting your cabinets. Today I’ve got an important step that many folks skip. I’m Dan Hansen and this is a Minute at RepcoLite sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

To summarize the project so far, we’ve washed the cabinets down with a good degreaser and we’ve rinsed the surface well with clean water. Then, we’ve scuff sanded with 150 - 180 grit sandpaper and rinsed again. After that . . . we applied primer and I recommended STIX primer from INSL-X which is a Benjamin Moore Company.

Alright. When your primer is dry . . . BEFORE you move on to your paint. You should do a very light sanding one more time. This will give you the best possible surface to work on when you get to your finish paint. Go lightly here with a 220 grit sandpaper and be careful around the edges. You’re not trying to sand down to bare wood–you’re just trying to remove any roller cover fuzzies or any other contaminant that could be in the film.

Once you’re done, rinse the surface well with a damp rag. I know it feels like an extra step, but it’s worth it if you’re looking for a beautiful finish. I’m Dan Hansen and that’s a minute at RepcoLite.
