In the past and even today, the concept of a "village" has been used metaphorically to emphasise the importance of a supportive community in raising children and maintaining a strong social network. Sounds too good to be true, right? The phrase "It takes a village to raise a child" encapsulates this idea, suggesting that it's not just the immediate family but also the broader community that plays a crucial role in shaping the upbringing and well-being of a child. Now, while that all sounds far too formal for conversations in this podcast, it's important to think about when Jill and Linda discuss together, for a baseline understanding of the pressures when finding your self-care village. Listen in as they chat about:
- Coordination and finding time that works alongside busy schedules.
- Society tells us to "find your village" but when we try to sometimes we find that everyone bails.
- The differences pre and post Covid, for example staying away from school sites and the caution of others now when getting 'too close'.
- Neighbours who we have never met and the motivation and drive to connect communities and engage in relationships.
- Linda's experience living in a co-housing community.
- Toxic Facebook mom groups and how they can actually sometimes not be good for our mental health and also self-care.
- The beauty of the babysitter's club.
