Section 1

Sergio’s call brings attention to something easily overlooked in Scripture: the Bible is filled with genuine human beings, complete with physical characteristics, weaknesses, mistakes, struggles, and sometimes tremendous failures. As Sergio works through his BFN—his “big fat nose” in the Book—he notices details about people being left-handed, overweight, bald, frightened, flawed, and painfully human. Dr. Dave explains that Scripture does not attempt to polish its characters into perfect spiritual heroes. 10022026A Samson failed spectacularly, prophets struggled, leaders made terrible decisions, and yet God continued working. That honesty becomes encouraging because believers still make mistakes too. Scripture records the failures along with the victories because God’s grace continues operating through imperfect people. The Bible’s humanity does not weaken its message; it helps reveal how faithfully God works through people who desperately need Him.

Section 2

The conversation then moves from the Bible’s realism to the reliability of God’s promises. Sergio recognizes that when God declared something would happen in Scripture, it happened—even when the fulfillment was difficult or graphic. That leads him to an encouraging conclusion: if those declarations were real, then promises such as “I will never leave you nor forsake you” are equally real. Dr. Dave confirms that connection. 10022026A God’s love does not fluctuate with our performance because His love is perfect, consistent, and faithful. The cross becomes the ultimate demonstration: Jesus gave His life for us while we were still enemies of God. Our mistakes therefore do not suddenly make God unreliable. The Old Testament points toward the cross, the New Testament points back to it, and together they reveal a God continually communicating His desire for relationship with humanity.

Section 3

That relationship becomes personal when Scripture moves beyond words on a page and becomes communion with God. Dr. Dave describes an unusually powerful morning of prayer when his normal thirty-minute prayer time became fifty-five minutes because he was no longer simply “praying”—he was deeply communing with the Lord. 10022026A The same thing happens when Scripture suddenly comes alive and the heart recognizes something it previously missed. God uses His Word to reveal Himself, strengthen believers, affirm them, refresh them, and draw them closer. The Bible is not God, but it carries His voice and continually points us toward Jesus. Dr. Dave’s simple counsel to his grandchildren captures the entire principle: if you want a good life, spend time with Jesus. The Bible introduces us to imperfect people, but through every page it keeps pointing us toward the perfectly faithful God who wants us to know Him.
