Tennis Tip: Practice More Tiebreakers to Win More Tiebreakers

GoTennis! Podcast — Season 26, Episode 25

Most recreational tennis players feel uncomfortable in tiebreakers because they rarely practice them. In this episode, RSPA Certified Tennis Professional Rob Carver shares one simple habit that changes that: before your next match, warm up with two out of three tiebreakers instead of going straight into a set. Try different strategies. See what works. By the time a tiebreaker matters in a real match, you will already have been there.

Hey!

Speaker:

You are muted still.

Speaker:

Oh.

Speaker:

You were talking to me.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

You were talking to me.

Speaker:

So far.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Cool.

Speaker:

You might just be that. How you doing?

Speaker:

Good, man.

Speaker:

Second to last day of a

Speaker:

college practice.

Speaker:

So on a thing my head is I get a little

Speaker:

in a cave during season.

Speaker:

So my creativity.

Speaker:

Everything gets kind of put on the back burner.

Speaker:

I get back to things.

Speaker:

So I'm really chomping up the bit with that.

Speaker:

Honestly.

Speaker:

So I'm excited.

Speaker:

I'm excited.

Speaker:

Good to hear you can part mentalize and really stay

Speaker:

laser focused on what you're supposed to be doing.

Speaker:

Which is good.

Speaker:

I like that.

Speaker:

More than I'd like to.

Speaker:

I'll be honest.

Speaker:

I can feel the bandwidth issue.

Speaker:

It pulls so much on me.

Speaker:

And so I just make sure I have enough to just

Speaker:

do what this and then the two team things is tough.

Speaker:

The two teams is tough.

Speaker:

And it's interesting.

Speaker:

I'm excited about the coaches circles.

Speaker:

So I did go down the UST certification round just because.

Speaker:

Honestly, they made it easy.

Speaker:

So I'm certified for now.

Speaker:

So I just thought I'd do.

Speaker:

I did that.

Speaker:

So I'm curious to have some like coaches.

Speaker:

A badge for like coaching support.

Speaker:

And they kind of just did a thing off a US paralympic thing.

Speaker:

So I'm going to take that module.

Speaker:

And I'm kind of basics of like coach bird out.

Speaker:

Mental social things like that.

Speaker:

So it touches on it.

Speaker:

But honestly, I don't believe it goes anywhere.

Speaker:

It's closed to the things that we're going to be doing.

Speaker:

Actually creating community.

Speaker:

Actually giving them a true mental performance plan.

Speaker:

One thing to just acknowledge this stuff.

Speaker:

But you need a way to kind of filter out the feelings,

Speaker:

the emotions, the stress of the day.

Speaker:

So I'm.

Speaker:

It's cool that they're seeing on that.

Speaker:

But I still feel there's.

Speaker:

What we're doing is going to be very unique and.

Speaker:

And warranted.

Speaker:

And also.

Speaker:

But honestly, I just got this today.

Speaker:

I was with their GM.

Speaker:

I love the guy.

Speaker:

They're just outside of Tacoma.

Speaker:

And I just was mentioning a array and how it might be beneficial to get them a part of that.

Speaker:

So I.

Speaker:

I don't know if there's an easier way of how to do that in the future.

Speaker:

But I just was talking about it.

Speaker:

I said I'd like to talk to more about that about getting his.

Speaker:

You know, they only have a couple pros, you know, GM.

Speaker:

It's a great place.

Speaker:

10 courts.

Speaker:

But he's a little more.

Speaker:

He's a little more.

Speaker:

Exciting the way he's kind of coming after things.

Speaker:

So I think he could be an interesting guy.

Speaker:

I kind of talked about how a race a little different.

Speaker:

And he liked it.

Speaker:

So anyway, I want to continue trying to help out where I can with that as well.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's always good.

Speaker:

And those are the two pro facilities are really easy because it's.

Speaker:

It's only a $250 sell.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

The small, the small facility membership is a GM.

Speaker:

Here's that.

Speaker:

Like, and my pros get all of this.

Speaker:

Absolutely.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

No, he really liked that.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So that's an easier sell.

Speaker:

I swear.

Speaker:

That's good.

Speaker:

I appreciate you chatting about it because that's always.

Speaker:

That's something we don't get enough of.

Speaker:

And it's hard when.

Speaker:

It's kind of volunteer work and referral and.

Speaker:

You know, we can we can say, hey, you're going to you're going to make 20% if you want it.

Speaker:

We'll write you a check kind of thing.

Speaker:

All we want, but that doesn't necessarily mean people are out there.

Speaker:

Talking about it, thinking if I make 50 extra $50 a week, that can't hurt.

Speaker:

I don't want to see them.

Speaker:

And you know, these are just universal laws of positive that if I'm helping somebody with their business.

Speaker:

What's going to come back to me?

Speaker:

These are universal laws of positive.

Speaker:

It's like kidding against the wall.

Speaker:

Like honestly, I live my life like that.

Speaker:

So, um, yeah, so I'm being a little selfish.

Speaker:

I want to help you because I know good things are in come my way.

Speaker:

I'm selected that car.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's hard to convince the others of that because others just trying to figure out where their next lesson is going to come from.

Speaker:

Hold on, take on when people are in survival mode. You're not in a place to start to even think about.

Speaker:

And when you're in survival mode, yeah, those things don't even exist.

Speaker:

But those are what kind of keeps you, keeps you down, all that stuff, you know, so.

Speaker:

And I wonder if that's a good conversation to have from a, I know we're off topic, of course, but you're the only one here.

Speaker:

So who cares?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

About the coaches circle is, is that survival mode of renaming it?

Speaker:

So it can feel different.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

And in that case, I think we even have fancy country club types that are doing 40 hours a week on court plus their other work and they're at the club 60, 70 hours a week.

Speaker:

They're not thinking about talking to their friends about a, they're not worried about the $20 referral that they might get.

Speaker:

They're just not thinking about it.

Speaker:

And they don't even think about checking our reports at the end of the day.

Speaker:

They don't have time.

Speaker:

They're just going to take a breath.

Speaker:

Yeah, they got to get home to their wife and kids.

Speaker:

And what I found is my liquid racket club is he makes, he makes his pros because you got to have two days off a week.

Speaker:

I like it.

Speaker:

What other, I mean, honestly, that's in, you normally don't hear that.

Speaker:

It's fascinating.

Speaker:

So, no, there's stuff to that because, you know, just in our coaches meeting, I just came from university, my coach retention.

Speaker:

I mean, it's just tough.

Speaker:

It's going to be tough.

Speaker:

There's so much is expected on coaches or so much pressure.

Speaker:

So that's why honestly, Sean, man, I'm really excited to kind of dive into this because everybody I'm talking to, the honest.

Speaker:

Bringing these things up, you know, and so just seeing, seeing the need, seeing the thing.

Speaker:

And I just see, you know, what the other guys are doing, the other rackets, people, I just feel like we can fit in so perfectly without repeating and just providing another option.

Speaker:

Yeah, absolutely agree.

Speaker:

Lakewood, extra cloud.

Speaker:

Liquid, liquid, sport, the liquid racket and sport club.

Speaker:

Oh, there we go.

Speaker:

Oh, there we found it.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

It was not coming up.

Speaker:

This place does exist.

Speaker:

I was in the high school, like my state tournaments, you know, we're there and then it kind of kind of went on a downfall, but the guy they brought in is really brought up back to like Chris is all.

Speaker:

See, go up in that area.

Speaker:

Yeah, he came back.

Speaker:

Yes, family here.

Speaker:

He can't golf.

Speaker:

He was ready.

Speaker:

Oh, me.

Speaker:

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

That's 25 minutes north of where I grew up.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

And just 20 minutes south of the campus.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So, you got it.

Speaker:

No, great, great, great, great doing great place and they're really doing great, working hard to separate themselves.

Speaker:

Everybody.

Speaker:

But yeah, so no rep it in a little just because they honestly are going to put my players in the offseason.

Speaker:

All that stuff and they sell my books and stuff like that.

Speaker:

Nice.

Speaker:

By both the like the adult tennis club, we got into some big places.

Speaker:

The adult tennis club, the big prestigious club up there.

Speaker:

I got it in.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Pete Carlson's pro shop in Palm Springs.

Speaker:

Got it in the Sampoint tennis center or some cool places.

Speaker:

So it's going, it's just slow and steady, not as fast as I'd love it to be, but you know.

Speaker:

What do those relationships look like when you say you got it into a pro shop?

Speaker:

Are they buying them wholesale or you can consign what does that look like?

Speaker:

So what I've done, I've kind of lowered the price.

Speaker:

It was kind of like a 1999 thing on Amazon.

Speaker:

It's been lowered a bit.

Speaker:

And so I wanted pro shops because I still kind of have a soft spot for pro shops.

Speaker:

I was like, I want them to be a product they can sell multiple times in the year.

Speaker:

So I've dropped it down to their buying a copy of a customized, you know,

Speaker:

a little message with a signature for $7.99.

Speaker:

So they can sell it in that $1 or $2 more than Amazon with it.

Speaker:

It's a custom, you know, personalized like, you know, the best is yet to come,

Speaker:

believe in you, all that stuff and little signing.

Speaker:

So they get that.

Speaker:

I had a little display thing.

Speaker:

If they wanted it, it looks like this.

Speaker:

You know, it's 23 recycled balls, but honestly like Seattle tennis club is the most

Speaker:

prestigious club in the Northwest.

Speaker:

I mean, it's Washington state opens there.

Speaker:

It's right on the waterfront.

Speaker:

I mean, it's, it's, it's, that is the club.

Speaker:

So they didn't even want my ball display.

Speaker:

They're so like, boozy.

Speaker:

They just, you know, they, they, they, they just order a sample.

Speaker:

They just order 10 bucks at a time.

Speaker:

So it's real simple.

Speaker:

I make it super easy.

Speaker:

So I don't care if it's one, two books.

Speaker:

It'll sell.

Speaker:

I believe it'll sell.

Speaker:

It'll sell these pro shops.

Speaker:

So, um, yeah.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

So, um, so exciting.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Feel good.

Speaker:

Well, that's cool.

Speaker:

I'm speaking of books.

Speaker:

Do you want to do anything?

Speaker:

And we can work out if it's a, uh, a benefit to you.

Speaker:

We have confirmed.

Speaker:

You're the first one I'm telling this, by the way.

Speaker:

We have confirmed our year and event where previously we've

Speaker:

done a dinner and awards banquet.

Speaker:

We're basically doing a lunch and an awards banquet.

Speaker:

And we are partnering with our SPA Georgia.

Speaker:

And we're going to do it on December 4th.

Speaker:

Oh boy.

Speaker:

We're out.

Speaker:

We're out.

Speaker:

We're out.

Speaker:

In Atlanta.

Speaker:

So it'll be at Atlanta, a flight at club.

Speaker:

And that's pure convenience for us.

Speaker:

And 60% of our members are in Atlanta.

Speaker:

So that makes sense.

Speaker:

Um, but.

Speaker:

Uh, we're obviously going to invite everybody.

Speaker:

You're welcome to come.

Speaker:

Love to have you.

Speaker:

We assume most people aren't flying in incurring the cost.

Speaker:

To come in for a workshop and a lunch.

Speaker:

Well, you've got something to sell.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

And then we're going to be able to do that.

Speaker:

OK.

Speaker:

Wow.

Speaker:

Shock is gone by two o'clock that afternoon.

Speaker:

Wow.

Speaker:

No way.

Speaker:

Call came in at 9 a.m.

Speaker:

Or 8 a.m.

Speaker:

We got to call it 9 30.

Speaker:

He's gone in six hours on a flight.

Speaker:

We took him to the airport in Miami that evening.

Speaker:

Wow.

Speaker:

Missed my birthday dinner.

Speaker:

So I'm going to take that on in later.

Speaker:

Missed my birthday dinner.

Speaker:

And we spend the next three days packing.

Speaker:

Because they're going to pack up their apartment and move to Miami.

Speaker:

Oh my goodness.

Speaker:

Oh wow.

Speaker:

And she was in Miami.

Speaker:

All their stuff was there by the weekend.

Speaker:

It was done.

Speaker:

And I'm sure the NFL just has a team of people that just like really help with certain things.

Speaker:

But there's still pieces that still have to be done.

Speaker:

And it's not free.

Speaker:

Like they know people.

Speaker:

They can say, hey, here's your call this guy with the truck.

Speaker:

He's going to help you move.

Speaker:

So they're not necessarily getting like a $15,000 moving bonus.

Speaker:

No, that's a, I mean, that might happen if you get your $100 million contract.

Speaker:

That's right.

Speaker:

In that case.

Speaker:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

No, so it was, I don't know, more than it was more than six, less than nine.

Speaker:

Just for the, just for the move that doesn't include shipping the truck.

Speaker:

Like it was, it wasn't, they didn't give them the whole.

Speaker:

We'll take care of everything.

Speaker:

Package.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And he's not a high profile player either.

Speaker:

So he might be a little bit of that.

Speaker:

But they did put him on a plane and say, you're coming today if you're, if you're in.

Speaker:

I mean, you're one of a couple thousand people.

Speaker:

Is it any NFL player and you're one of a few thousand?

Speaker:

It's that's like, it's, that's why that's so.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So we, the second year in a row, we got to move our daughter.

Speaker:

Because two years, or last year this time, we moved her out of Puerto Rico to Cincinnati.

Speaker:

Because she was leaving her job to get married and found out they were pregnant.

Speaker:

The whole thing, right?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So on my birthday last year, we were packing her up in Puerto Rico.

Speaker:

We were to Cincinnati.

Speaker:

Wow.

Speaker:

How interesting the cycles.

Speaker:

Uh-huh.

Speaker:

So we're going to plan our birthday trip to Miami next year.

Speaker:

No, I don't, it's a, it's a one year contract.

Speaker:

We'll see where he is next year.

Speaker:

How cool.

Speaker:

And then for some reason, our former Marine 23 year old.

Speaker:

Firefighter and DC sun does not like to return phone calls or answer text messages.

Speaker:

So he's, he's upsetting both of us as parents.

Speaker:

Like, hey, at least, at least respond and say I love you too.

Speaker:

Like, it's not that hard.

Speaker:

But that's him.

Speaker:

Um, but.

Speaker:

Sorry, you just got stuck.

Speaker:

You there.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Are you still going back with me?

Speaker:

Yeah, I got.

Speaker:

Yeah, I lost you.

Speaker:

There you go.

Speaker:

Sorry about that.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's all service.

Speaker:

I know that kiddo stuff is up now.

Speaker:

I know.

Speaker:

I know.

Speaker:

I had a real dark period three year plus with my kiddo was getting out of college and stuff.

Speaker:

I just wasn't getting much communication stuff.

Speaker:

Um, and just, you know, whatever.

Speaker:

And it's so much better now, but it's tough.

Speaker:

You know, it's, yeah, it's, it's, uh, those things will be tough.

Speaker:

But you realize they're going through a lot of stuff and they just need to communicate that.

Speaker:

You know, so I also realize that.

Speaker:

These are community.

Speaker:

I need to, you know, they need to understand.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's a learning, it's learning moments because things like that are tough.

Speaker:

I know they're having tough times or going through their life.

Speaker:

Communication is so damn important.

Speaker:

So, yeah, but I definitely feel last stop.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So it'll come around.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And we've got our four year old to focus on.

Speaker:

Like we just had our three year old.

Speaker:

He's, uh, had his fourth birthday this past weekend.

Speaker:

And we're still going through opening gifts and things.

Speaker:

And so we're a little spread out and still doing the, the ARA thing, of course.

Speaker:

And this agency is a lot of fun.

Speaker:

Um, I did want to take a couple of minutes.

Speaker:

Looking into the system, I don't have you logged in yet.

Speaker:

Is that true?

Speaker:

No, I did on that.

Speaker:

I did a log in.

Speaker:

This is before our last call.

Speaker:

So let me go to a real quick.

Speaker:

There's another last call we were asking was everybody using.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'm already logged in.

Speaker:

I'd already logged in once.

Speaker:

So let me, uh, let me go to that real quick.

Speaker:

What's the website again?

Speaker:

Let me go to that.

Speaker:

It is founders.

Speaker:

I'll send it to you in the chat.

Speaker:

You want me to.

Speaker:

But founders dot American Racket Sports Association dot com.

Speaker:

I'll send you the log in link if I beat you to it in the chat.

Speaker:

That's interesting.

Speaker:

The chat continues from last time.

Speaker:

How cool is that?

Speaker:

Yeah, there we go.

Speaker:

Little Matthew, welcome back.

Speaker:

And your aunt, that is very interesting because my system told me that you had not.

Speaker:

Let me see app users.

Speaker:

I'm a known cash.

Speaker:

I haven't done any surveys yet.

Speaker:

I haven't finished that.

Speaker:

Yeah, because I went in and asked and that was the thing that.

Speaker:

Matthew Gordon Simon's.

Speaker:

Who is that?

Speaker:

That's me.

Speaker:

Gordon.

Speaker:

That's my middle name.

Speaker:

How that cop how that pop up.

Speaker:

Tighted in.

Speaker:

I don't know.

Speaker:

And I could tell that.

Speaker:

Uh, uh, oh, the Matthew Gordon Simon's at eGmail.

Speaker:

Oh, I did that.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

I logged in at the middle of tennis player on this one.

Speaker:

When I logged in now, I logged in.

Speaker:

Uh-huh.

Speaker:

That's why it can't.

Speaker:

That's why it didn't know you were logged in.

Speaker:

Got it.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Well, you didn't fill out a survey.

Speaker:

It doesn't matter.

Speaker:

I mean, if you're not going to use that one, I can delete it just for clean.

Speaker:

My profile.

Speaker:

Yeah, the middle of tennis player.

Speaker:

I was.

Speaker:

Uh,

Speaker:

what I do.

Speaker:

That says joined never interesting.

Speaker:

But it wouldn't have had your information.

Speaker:

Now I got mentally tough tennis player.

Speaker:

There.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So my profile says membership to your administrator joined September 15th.

Speaker:

Got it.

Speaker:

On board and completed confidential.

Speaker:

I just want to keep that one.

Speaker:

Middle of the.

Speaker:

I got rid of the other one.

Speaker:

Well, um, yeah, because really the question there is in a fact, I'm logged in with mine.

Speaker:

I don't know if I can log in as Gmail.

Speaker:

I'm a nurse.

Speaker:

Well, those are the questions that I want to have.

Speaker:

From a, from a survey perspective, because we're building things out each time.

Speaker:

So as we go in,

Speaker:

full name, primary role, you are vendor or sponsor.

Speaker:

Go.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Got it.

Speaker:

Oh, no, no.

Speaker:

Got it.

Speaker:

I see this.

Speaker:

You are vendor or sponsor.

Speaker:

And you are tennis.

Speaker:

What type of facility?

Speaker:

So these are the kind of things when I use the transcript.

Speaker:

I put the transcript back in.

Speaker:

And I say, well, Matt works at a college university.

Speaker:

So if we need to know, I want to have that on there.

Speaker:

One of the things we talked about the last conversation we had was I don't want to have the other at the bottom.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

Because we've got almost 50 people that are part of these focus groups.

Speaker:

And we should have a good segment of the industry to be able to have kind of one of everybody.

Speaker:

Rather than everybody said, well, I'm unique because I have this and that.

Speaker:

And I'm at a unique facility.

Speaker:

I want people to feel understood.

Speaker:

I don't know if I should.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

Which sounds a little modern for me.

Speaker:

But that really is.

Speaker:

It really is the target.

Speaker:

Yeah, because I look down.

Speaker:

I'm like, nope, you're none of these.

Speaker:

You are other.

Speaker:

So in theory, when you click other, it should give you an option.

Speaker:

To add what kind is there?

Speaker:

The question is why doesn't it?

Speaker:

Because otherwise we're not learning anything.

Speaker:

But these are just some of the little things where we're not necessarily too worried about.

Speaker:

Specifically, there we go.

Speaker:

Okay, so please specify other.

Speaker:

I just had to refresh mine.

Speaker:

So if you hit refresh, you will allow you to put in.

Speaker:

Your type of facility, whatever you call it.

Speaker:

Code management software.

Speaker:

Like for you.

Speaker:

You may not have one because I don't know.

Speaker:

We literally, if don't you give me, we literally use a piece of paper from the 70s.

Speaker:

A big long thing weekly.

Speaker:

It's.

Speaker:

It's.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Which is fine.

Speaker:

Is they none?

Speaker:

We use a piece of paper.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

That was actually one of our first podcast episodes was.

Speaker:

You still use a pencil?

Speaker:

That's insane.

Speaker:

Sometimes it's the pin.

Speaker:

You can't use a pen.

Speaker:

You can't erase the.

Speaker:

I know.

Speaker:

That means the member.

Speaker:

You can't cancel their.

Speaker:

Exactly.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

No, I don't mind that.

Speaker:

And especially it's just you, meaning are you running it?

Speaker:

Can anybody else use the courts at your school?

Speaker:

No, there's community members and.

Speaker:

And alumni and faculty and students.

Speaker:

So that's a small group of a few hundred.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

And you say community members, meaning if I lived in the area, I could.

Speaker:

You'd have to be a longer club member and pay a certain amount per year to do that to have access.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

A longer club.

Speaker:

What's that?

Speaker:

A longer club.

Speaker:

That's basically you donate a little bit to the there's a specific donation you have to do.

Speaker:

You pay a yearly membership and you get to use our swimming pool tennis courts.

Speaker:

Weight room and stuff like that.

Speaker:

And then I do.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

I do.

Speaker:

Then I do my own small amount of programming in the court to something.

Speaker:

You do your own programming, meaning like a man's drills and.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Very small, more small group stuff and private.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Gotcha.

Speaker:

So you put yourself available as.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

That is just honestly.

Speaker:

It's just that my private leave you.

Speaker:

So it's just my own personal thing that I really promote.

Speaker:

Navigate.

Speaker:

Got it.

Speaker:

Because you don't want to or you just never bother.

Speaker:

Don't have a need to.

Speaker:

Don't need.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Gotcha.

Speaker:

I think if you know the name Chase Hodges.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

He made a name for himself at Georgia, Gwinnett College.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Here.

Speaker:

Winning everything.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

And he had basically full reigns at the facility because.

Speaker:

The college was right next to what used to be a tennis club.

Speaker:

Like a privately owned.

Speaker:

Members only tennis club.

Speaker:

The school bought.

Speaker:

The real estate.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

For there and put their logo on it said.

Speaker:

And then they said, well, they're going to play here.

Speaker:

Well, they also gave Chase who is one hell of a hustler.

Speaker:

They gave him free reigns to run.

Speaker:

Program.

Speaker:

So he used his pro, his players, his coaches.

Speaker:

I worked for I contracted with him when I ran tennis for children.

Speaker:

So I ran his tenant under beginner program.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And he had a junior academy.

Speaker:

He was.

Speaker:

Elinate.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Outside of being the tennis coach for the college team.

Speaker:

So they have certain limits.

Speaker:

So that's kind of how it was done 20 years ago before me.

Speaker:

And that was the priority over the team.

Speaker:

So it's more of.

Speaker:

It has to be low key low scale.

Speaker:

So I just kind of do my own private stuff.

Speaker:

That's the expectation.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I'll trust me.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

It used to be done that way.

Speaker:

And they're like, never again.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

And that's a culture.

Speaker:

And that's fun.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So it was like Chase wouldn't have taken the job.

Speaker:

That's.

Speaker:

And it was low key.

Speaker:

It's a mistake not to do that.

Speaker:

I think you know, they've done it.

Speaker:

Maybe.

Speaker:

But depends on the personality of your coach too.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And the culture of the team.

Speaker:

So that's good.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Single business biggest professional challenge.

Speaker:

I like that.

Speaker:

What made you decide to join the agency?

Speaker:

You can put that in from a vendor or sponsor perspective.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I do prefer to receive updates.

Speaker:

And what would.

Speaker:

Would you like to be matched with other cohort members for peer connection and advice?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I like that.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So that survey is getting better.

Speaker:

And I appreciate that because that's.

Speaker:

That makes such a difference.

Speaker:

Like I said, I take the we take these conversations.

Speaker:

We grabbed the transcript and we plug it into the AI who then says,

Speaker:

here are all your updates for your.

Speaker:

Surveys and your files.

Speaker:

And then I plug it into the AI into the builder.

Speaker:

And it's like, all right.

Speaker:

Everything's updated right ago.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So the other thing that we haven't done as much of in here is getting everybody together is everybody's busy.

Speaker:

But the whole three days a week thing we've had as many as five on any call.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

Sometimes it's one on one like this.

Speaker:

The other one I took in the car that Andrew ran.

Speaker:

Nope.

Speaker:

Is usually the Thursday evenings.

Speaker:

That's dinner time for me and my family.

Speaker:

So Andrew runs that one.

Speaker:

Nice.

Speaker:

So what can we do for you?

Speaker:

Because you and I can talk about the coaches, circles and that target.

Speaker:

That's more of an ARA thing.

Speaker:

If we keep it, which we need to, I need to finish branding it.

Speaker:

So I can get you art.

Speaker:

So we can start with a weekly push on Instagram and places.

Speaker:

If you noticed, we just started the ARA Instagram.

Speaker:

Against my wishes, but it exists now.

Speaker:

So the American Ragsports Association has an Instagram.

Speaker:

And we'll promote those kinds of things on it.

Speaker:

But from an agency perspective, have you had a chance to send text messages?

Speaker:

I assume the answers are no because you're busy, but I have to ask the questions.

Speaker:

Have you had a chance to text with Giovanna other than just responding to incoming winner you available?

Speaker:

So I actually did and I actually never received anything back.

Speaker:

So let me go back to the date of this.

Speaker:

Okay, I don't, it looks like I deleted my original thing.

Speaker:

So when this first came out, I want to say maybe a month ago I did.

Speaker:

I just adapted a general question of, you know, going to, I was going to, you know,

Speaker:

going to Palm Springs for the winter.

Speaker:

And I just kind of was like asking a couple of questions about that.

Speaker:

Some jobs, stuff like that.

Speaker:

Just I just thought he just general question and didn't get anything back.

Speaker:

So just got nothing back.

Speaker:

We got something we were able to do and then it kind of, I kind of forgot about it.

Speaker:

What's that?

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Give me the phone number that you were texting with like your personal three six.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah, three six.

Speaker:

999, 1958.

Speaker:

And so when I do these things for the sign up on this, I get the kick.

Speaker:

You know, I get the, you know, I get all the confirmations.

Speaker:

Everything came from, you know, from from Giovanni, you know, Giovanna, you know,

Speaker:

for this, everything on here, but that was just the one time.

Speaker:

And it was even on the same link that I would get other things from from that.

Speaker:

But this was a, I mean, it was a month plus ago and I just was, I was thought it might take longer to come back to me or something.

Speaker:

So then honestly, I just forgot about it.

Speaker:

I just kind of got about it and then.

Speaker:

But yeah, that was a one time.

Speaker:

It was just, I just was going to give a random question just to see what it would do.

Speaker:

Just to discuss.

Speaker:

So that's, and that's exactly what we need.

Speaker:

Yeah, it is.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

Sorry, I don't have the date and time in the response.

Speaker:

I can have it again.

Speaker:

Three inbound text from Matt Simon's September 13th.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Tuesday, October 5th, four and so nothing unprocessed from him.

Speaker:

And you're telling me before that you did send in.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

I just did a, you know, I was asking it generally about, you know, Palm Springs, you know, just some jobs, just a general, just a general kind of question.

Speaker:

I'm going to have the system check for that.

Speaker:

Which is good.

Speaker:

And then a month ago, a lot has changed because we've updated.

Speaker:

I installed since then I've installed a better LLM into G of Anna because originally it was.

Speaker:

Ask a question, get a predefined response.

Speaker:

And so what we're doing now is ask the question and it thinks like it, like a chat GPT or GROC.

Speaker:

So it should do a better job at this point.

Speaker:

And some of the different conversation with you might, my wife, she's a, she's in tech sales for, she's a software sales force consultant.

Speaker:

So she's been dabbling in, and you know, a agents as well.

Speaker:

So at some point, I might just have some general questions for you about non this stuff, but more in general, how you run your agents and stuff like that.

Speaker:

Just get sure kind of expanding that stuff and just your own, you know, own world.

Speaker:

So, yeah, I think back to four or five months ago and realize, I don't know, I don't know how I was getting anything done.

Speaker:

But what I realized is I was just getting one thing done at a time instead of 12 things done.

Speaker:

And now I can spend, because I've built the tool as an example, the jobs tool, we've got over 760 jobs right now on the, on the jobs page.

Speaker:

Well, right now is the slow season. I'm like, why can't I get to a thousand?

Speaker:

Well, you had an AI agent kind of certain for those because I'm getting to the point where I'm, I just ran out of time with season, but I'm going to start having my halfway through getting my AI agent developed.

Speaker:

Just tell me go after mental performance clients with, you know, universities bigger than tennis. I mean, like, you know, other sports, other divisions, things like that.

Speaker:

Kind of doing my non tennis stuff kind of.

Speaker:

And a lot of that I would personally, I would suggest Claude.

Speaker:

But a lot of it just takes training. And if you focus on one main thing and say, this is what I'm trying to build.

Speaker:

I've gotten the whole goal is, and I took a little course. I just like saying Harvard out loud, but I took an online course through Harvard online.

Speaker:

And it was about prompting. It was about AI and what it's capable of. And it isn't just Google. I remember back in the day I couldn't even Google right in front of me.

Speaker:

Give it to me. Like you're so bad at search.

Speaker:

Being able to tell I can build an entire app with one copy paste. If I spend enough time in Claude and describe the, I built a whole paddle finder.

Speaker:

If you text you have on it right now and say, I need to talk about pickleball paddles and find the right one for me.

Speaker:

It should connect to our paddle finder in the back. And don't quote me on this because maybe I haven't actually connected it yet.

Speaker:

But what it's going to be able to do is what I'll say is for you to be able to say, I need to pick a ball paddle, which one's right for me. It'll ask you the questions that I built into that app.

Speaker:

And get the information it needs from you. And then suggest cheap, affordable and high end paddles for you and where to find them.

Speaker:

Well, I built that app in one prompt.

Speaker:

But I spent I spent half hour 45 minutes describing it and building it to Claude.

Speaker:

To build the prompt, the right prompt.

Speaker:

Yeah, yeah, that's that. So with my partner, I mean, she's high and you know, she's pretty high level tech consultant person.

Speaker:

So like that's what she's also said. It's all about the props. So they do they use AI for going over big government contract stuff to make sure they're, I mean, it's their processing huge amounts of information.

Speaker:

So yeah, everything she said, it's all about the prompt me the prompt the prompt the prompt is really yeah, that's interesting cool.

Speaker:

Yeah, I go back to interview with the vampire. Yeah, yeah, but where he says you ask the wrong questions.

Speaker:

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's absolutely.

Speaker:

Yeah, cool. It's all it is. Okay. So I don't have anything the it didn't find it.

Speaker:

So send in another another question like, hey, I'm looking for a director of racket sports jobs in Palm Springs.

Speaker:

What's available? It should work at this point. Okay, and I'll keep track if I don't hear at all. I'll do a better job detailing the it should respond within seconds.

Speaker:

Like if you don't hear back immediately, something's wrong, send a screenshot.

Speaker:

And I'll plug it in, but it should be good to go now.

Speaker:

But otherwise, that's all I was going to go through today was make sure you logged in getting a survey done.

Speaker:

Are you willing to upload any data from like your resume?

Speaker:

Any resumes you might have had we keep everything confidential.

Speaker:

Do you have a like a budget for your teams that you're willing to upload into this system?

Speaker:

We redact everything from a personal standpoint, but what we're also doing is trying to collect enough data to be able to when someone text in it says, hey, I'm a first year college coach.

Speaker:

Yeah, I don't even know what I'm looking at from a budget perspective. We're building a budgeting tool as well.

Speaker:

No, and I have some info on some of the other schools in my conference and you know, kind of what they're doing and you know how crappy our budget is, some kind of other people stuff.

Speaker:

So I can I'm happy to share stuff like that would be awesome because we're we're not going to have as many as I'd like.

Speaker:

I'm going through trying to beg beg and plead like look, I promise it's confidential.

Speaker:

You know, just there's a so there's a file upload system in the in the app that is confidential.

Speaker:

And then I can plug I never personally have to look at it so no human ever sees it. It just stays in the system. We plug it in then and say, here's a.

Speaker:

Here's a budget from this school in this area.

Speaker:

And then it understands like the size and scope because what I'd love to be able to do is for the coach types like you and me.

Speaker:

You say, yeah, I'm looking to get in a coaching job and someone says, Hey, I was offered a job at Bob's University to be a tennis coach and you can text that into Giovanna and Giovanna can say congratulations. That's fantastic.

Speaker:

Just to let you know their budget is significantly weaker than other schools of that or they have a fantastic budget. I'd love to have that kind of information.

Speaker:

Yep, that'd be great. I like that cool stuff. And then I think that's it that I've got today at some point. Let's talk about the coaches circles again. So yeah, I said you got this week and then maybe next week your bandwidth opens up a little bit.

Speaker:

100% yeah, and there'll be some big change, you know, some big big stuff. I'm excited this winter that kind of really, you know, we can.

Speaker:

You keep teasing me on what might be coming without. More of what I'm more of what I'm doing. Yeah, okay more focus on what I'm doing with this stuff.

Speaker:

Okay, so well.

Speaker:

Check it up on that. I'm big. I've been speaking like this very evasively to a lot of people and I was fascinated that you were picking up on that. So good job.

Speaker:

Yeah, I've been so if you're if I can help or you really you are so and I keep I keep not asking the personal questions to like, wait a minute, did he just say what I think he said that that didn't follow after what just happened.

Speaker:

Yeah, I've been hinting. Yeah, I've been hinting on this stuff for the one that was before. That's all right. That's all right. Okay. Well, if you want to find some time, find some time on my calendar next week.

Speaker:

Yes, let's let's finish the branding where you can I can talk about just that for the coaches circle. You want to look at a day or did you say you want to look at a date.

Speaker:

Do you want me to use you got my calendar link usually if you want me to.

Speaker:

I'll.

Speaker:

Yeah, yeah, I'm more time and then you'll get on.

Speaker:

And then find some time next week for me.

Speaker:

Because if I just if I don't do that, it doesn't end up on the schedule. Yep. Yep. Love it. Doesn't happen. Love it. All right. Now Matt.

Speaker:

Where are you? How many mats do I know? Jesus.

Speaker:

One of.

Speaker:

I had like four. I think I had one more. We had five on one tennis team on our five O USD 18 down here.

Speaker:

That's ridiculous. No, I was Matt my whole life until my first company I was with was at a map had a mat. So I had to become Matthew.

Speaker:

Yeah, two is fine. More than three year. I don't know what you do. So yeah, we none of them were called Matt.

Speaker:

It was it was last name. It was Veecin. One of them was called Duchy.

Speaker:

Last name is Holland. So they called him Duchy. Oh God. Hello. I want to call him gay Matt, but evidently you're not allowed to do that.

Speaker:

I mean back in the 90s, you could.

Speaker:

There's so many things you could do back in the day. We did, but he ended up becoming the president of USDA. So yeah, we kind of.

Speaker:

No comedy. Ryan Behaly that was our guy. He can't even be funny anymore. So you know. This is true. Wow.

Speaker:

We'll remove that from the transcript. All right. Let's talk.

Speaker:

- Okay, next week.

Speaker:

- Hello, it's Tom, Dr. Simba.

Speaker:

- Thanks man.
