Transcripts

Speaker:

You're treating your business like a

hobby.

2

:

We all do it.

3

:

I'm guilty of it.

4

:

You're guilty of it.

5

:

But the reality is this, there is a

massive disconnect between what you're

6

:

trying to accomplish and what you say are

your goals and what your actions are

7

:

actually creating.

8

:

Now, this can stem from any number of

different things, but the reality is,

9

:

unless you gain control of the fact that

this is indeed a business,

10

:

you are a business owner and you are

diving into making this bigger than it is

11

:

today, you're not gonna get any bigger.

12

:

You're not gonna grow.

13

:

This isn't gonna change.

14

:

So today, I wanna talk about this from the

up close, the real, the reality.

15

:

Here's how it goes for me.

16

:

I am great at a lot of things in my

business.

17

:

I am exceptional at public speaking.

18

:

at getting in front of people, at randomly

asking for opportunities without a lot of

19

:

concern about what the response is going

to be.

20

:

I am confident when I'm in front of a

crowd and I feel great when I'm speaking

21

:

out loud to potential clients.

22

:

I love that part.

23

:

It is what lights me up and so it makes it

easy for me.

24

:

What I don't do well is the back end micro

details that make things seamless.

25

:

make things smooth, make the processes go

really well.

26

:

I am a visionary in my business.

27

:

I am that big picture thinker and that is

fantastic.

28

:

And there are many of you that are going

to be exactly resonating with this right

29

:

now.

30

:

You are that person that has a great

vision of exactly where you're going to go

31

:

and how it's going to look and what it's

going to create for you.

32

:

And that is wonderful.

33

:

But the reality is you also need the other

side.

34

:

And this isn't the only business owner

that has this challenge.

35

:

So you're maybe the visionary and you can

get that big picture thing happening and

36

:

the minutiae details hard, right?

37

:

So things slip through the cracks, things

get missed, things aren't as smooth as

38

:

they could be.

39

:

Or alternatively, you are that person who

is the minutiae detail in your business.

40

:

Every single system has to be perfect

before you can get ready to go.

41

:

There is hesitation in putting things out

in the public and just seeing how they

42

:

work.

43

:

Either way, we are living in this place

of, I know that if I'm struggling with, is

44

:

my business a business or a hobby?

45

:

I know damn well you're struggling too.

46

:

So I want to put in place today a couple

of ideas to hopefully break your brain and

47

:

make you think about what is it you really

want?

48

:

No, for real.

49

:

Not the shit that you tell me when I ask

you that question, but deep down inside,

50

:

are you proud of the way you're showing

up?

51

:

Do you know you could do better?

52

:

Are you maybe just struggling to figure

out how exactly would I do that?

53

:

I was chatting on a friend or chatting on

a call today with a friend who also is a

54

:

business owner.

55

:

And we were both saying that sometimes as

business owners, it would be really nice

56

:

if we had a boss.

57

:

If there was somebody there,

58

:

that would give us the like A, B, C, this

is what you do next, this is the priority

59

:

and go.

60

:

Now, that would be great, but the reality

is we are the only person that's gonna

61

:

show up.

62

:

It's just you.

63

:

You're gonna have support staff, you're

gonna have people to help you, you're

64

:

gonna have outsource, all these things,

right?

65

:

Automation and delegation is key and we

talk about that in the crush formula all

66

:

the time.

67

:

But at the end of the day,

68

:

you are the person who's driving your

business forward or who is driving it half

69

:

-assed.

70

:

And honestly, I live in a place sometimes

where I think, or I know, I could be doing

71

:

better.

72

:

So here's where we're gonna start holding

each other accountable.

73

:

This podcast is meant for shift.

74

:

And one of the things that I know is

really hard is if you think that I'm doing

75

:

everything perfectly, that I don't have

these issues, it makes it maybe hard.

76

:

to identify yourself in the stuff that I'm

saying or just to feel like you could ever

77

:

get there.

78

:

I promise you, you can get to six figures

in your business without having all your

79

:

shit in order.

80

:

I know because I've done it.

81

:

I've done it multiple years in a row, so I

know you can do it too.

82

:

What we need to do is just get

microscopically better, more honed in,

83

:

more precise with exactly what we're doing

and what we're trying to achieve.

84

:

And coming back over and over and over

again to what are the two or three things

85

:

you need to do in your business that are

going to move the financial needle.

86

:

I speak about a lot of different pieces of

a business and all of them are important

87

:

and necessary, but without financial

measures, you are not going to grow.

88

:

If you are not creating sales or

increasing sales or developing bigger,

89

:

better products or opportunities or

offers, or just getting better at selling

90

:

your business, your business will not

grow.

91

:

Not for all the goal planning and all the

land.

92

:

it will not grow.

93

:

So if I know that I need to do better and

I know that you need to do better, here

94

:

are the three things that I do to get my

head right out of my butt and stop doing

95

:

things half -assed.

96

:

And I come back to this on the regular

because I don't anticipate that I'm gonna

97

:

start doing everything perfectly now and

never fall off the wagon, right?

98

:

It's like healthy eating, exercising, you

know.

99

:

not yelling at your kids.

100

:

It's all those things, right?

101

:

We do well, then we do shitty, then we do

well, then we do shitty, and it is okay.

102

:

You are in great company.

103

:

Every single successful business owner on

the planet has felt the way that you're

104

:

feeling right now.

105

:

So instead of staying there, let's come up

with some strategies to get ourselves from

106

:

where we are right now into action, into

actual movement.

107

:

And here are the things that I do.

108

:

There's a couple of straight up basic ones

and then a couple of little tips and

109

:

tricks that I think will help move the

needle in your business and get you back

110

:

on track to this is a jobby, not a hobby.

111

:

Okay, first and foremost, I need to get my

mindset ready.

112

:

And it's funny, for a long time as a

coach, I really struggled with the mindset

113

:

side of things, with the woo -woo piece of

things, okay?

114

:

But the reality is, if you sit down at

your desk in the morning and A, you have

115

:

no idea what you're doing, you don't have

any intention, you don't have any set out

116

:

tasks that you're going to do, and you

feel crappy about all those things, I

117

:

guarantee what you're going to do is

scroll on your phone, clean out your email

118

:

box, flip on Netflix, and organize your

pen drawer.

119

:

So instead of that, I want to encourage

slash pseudo force you.

120

:

to start planning your days ahead of time.

121

:

At the end of the day before, so at the

end of Friday last week, sit down and

122

:

write out what you're trying to

accomplish.

123

:

And this isn't meant to be a to -do list

longer than your arm, okay?

124

:

That's not gonna help, it's not gonna be

beneficial, and you're not gonna get

125

:

anywhere like that.

126

:

Instead, it is what are the three things

that I need to do on Monday that will move

127

:

the needle?

128

:

And Monday afternoon comes,

129

:

three things I need to do on Tuesday to

move the needle.

130

:

And each and every day evaluating what are

the things I need to do, and then most

131

:

importantly, holding yourself accountable.

132

:

Start to trust that you're actually gonna

show up and be the best employee in your

133

:

business.

134

:

You're gonna do the priorities that you've

set out, and you're going to be able to

135

:

track whether or not they're working with,

do I have more clients?

136

:

Am I making more money?

137

:

And is it becoming more and more

profitable?

138

:

So we're planning ahead.

139

:

We are doing the things that make a

difference, not just doing the things to

140

:

say that we worked really hard.

141

:

And this is where those business owners

that maybe aren't the visionary, but are

142

:

the backend and have really great

understanding of systems and processes and

143

:

all of those things.

144

:

If you're great at this, you hide there.

145

:

You do, you hide there.

146

:

You are perfecting this and getting it

ready and editing it and starting it

147

:

again.

148

:

and rewriting that whole email sequence

instead of just sending the whole email

149

:

sequence or going with the landing page,

even if it's not the best, right?

150

:

You are not taking action that is creating

offers.

151

:

So the second piece of that is I want you

to be sure that those three things on your

152

:

list day in, day out are not things that

are back end support type things.

153

:

Instead they are,

154

:

moving the needle on finances and the way

to do that is sales.

155

:

And the way to do that is conversation, is

visibility, is getting out there to your

156

:

audience in a more clear and concise

manner each and every day so that you can

157

:

really create the results that you want.

158

:

So we're gonna stop hiding, we're gonna

stop scrolling, we're gonna plan for our

159

:

next day and then we are gonna follow

through.

160

:

on those actions in our next day so that

we can actually create the results.

161

:

So that's two things, plan and follow

through.

162

:

And the third thing, and this is where I

am going to be leaning in again this week,

163

:

is I need support.

164

:

I need somebody to kick my ass.

165

:

Sometimes I need an external

accountability beyond what I have in place

166

:

right now.

167

:

And so I'm going to be actively seeking

that, actively reaching out to my coach.

168

:

actively reaching out to my peers and

asking for help and giving them an outline

169

:

of what I'm trying to accomplish and

asking them to hold me accountable.

170

:

Now, there is a difference between

accountability and cheerleading.

171

:

Cheerleading comes from a place of

absolutely supporting and loving

172

:

everything that you're doing and making

you feel great and not pushing you but

173

:

supporting you as you go and we need those

people.

174

:

And often those are the people that

perhaps you're not letting in to see the

175

:

whole picture.

176

:

You're not opening all the back doors to

your business, but instead you're just

177

:

sharing the highlight reel and that is

okay.

178

:

We need cheerleaders that are impressed

with what we're doing that boost us up and

179

:

give us confidence.

180

:

There is a time and a place for that and I

want you to lean into those people.

181

:

But then alternatively, you need somebody

that is going to actually push you, that

182

:

is going to say to you, that excuse is

bullshit.

183

:

You said you were gonna do this, you

haven't.

184

:

What is standing in your way?

185

:

What do you need to remove?

186

:

How can I support you?

187

:

And that support does not come in the

place of rubbing your hair and telling you

188

:

you're great.

189

:

It actually comes from the place of being

like, listen, do you want it or not?

190

:

This is some hard talk, right?

191

:

And this hard talk is gonna look different

for everybody.

192

:

I need a swift kick in the ass.

193

:

I need like the guy.

194

:

running behind me and forcing me to run.

195

:

That's how I roll, right?

196

:

That's how I thrive.

197

:

So when I'm looking for somebody for that

kind of support, that's who I'm looking

198

:

for, an ass kicker, if you will, right?

199

:

And I do this for my clients and I

sometimes do it gently and I sometimes do

200

:

it directly and I sometimes do it maybe

harshly, but my goal is never so that they

201

:

create the results I want them to create.

202

:

but instead it's so they create the

results they're seeking.

203

:

And there's time that I have clients that

push back and say like, no, I've changed

204

:

my mind.

205

:

No, I don't wanna do that.

206

:

This is their business.

207

:

They're gonna run it how they wanna run

it.

208

:

That is awesome, right?

209

:

And I support them in their new trajectory

without a doubt.

210

:

So if you are planning ahead, prioritizing

and doing, and then getting somebody to be

211

:

your wingman when it comes to

accountability in a real and true way,

212

:

you will shift your business.

213

:

But all of this stems right back to your

mindset.

214

:

Why do you want this?

215

:

What does creating this business in the

way that you vision it actually change for

216

:

your life?

217

:

Why are you working so hard?

218

:

What is the reason that you get up every

morning and come sit at your desk instead

219

:

of going to do countless other things that

you could do in your life?

220

:

In fact, most of us have countless other

things we should be getting to, right?

221

:

But they're on the back burner because

this is the thing right now.

222

:

This is the thing.

223

:

This is the time you have to develop this

business.

224

:

Your ability to go from where you are

right now to 10Xing your results is

225

:

available to you if you

226

:

take it.

227

:

So I want to encourage you, I want to kick

your ass a little, I want you to lean in

228

:

and say to yourself, my business isn't a

hobby, am I showing up like the CEO?

229

:

Am I showing up like this is truly the

thing that I want to do and that the

230

:

result I seek is actually what I'm going

for?

231

:

Or am I half -assing it?

232

:

And if you're half -assing it, then I get

you, I feel you, half the time I am you.

233

:

this is the message you needed to hear

today.

234

:

This is the thing that's in your ears for

a reason.

235

:

all things holy, get off your ass and

236

:

let's get working.
