Speaker:from women who are considering turning their hobby into a business

Speaker:And they question whether it's possible to make money with their
Speaker:products in the first place.
Speaker:Maybe this sounds a little bit like you,
Speaker:you see people all around opening businesses,
Speaker:selling their handmade creations.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:they're on Etsy at craft shows promoting on Instagram,
Speaker:and then you wonder,
Speaker:how did they make it happen?
Speaker:And now there are other questions too,
Speaker:right? Like how does the pandemic affect the ability to start

Speaker:forward slash masterclass.
Speaker:A couple of weeks ago,
Speaker:you heard from Hamina one of my maker's MBA students from
Speaker:last year.
Speaker:And today I am so excited to introduce you to another
Speaker:fabulous student.
Speaker:You know,
Speaker:it feels funny to call them that because we worked so
Speaker:closely together in my program that maybe they begin as students,
Speaker:but very quickly become friends.
Speaker:So let me introduce you to my friend,
Speaker:Sophie. She started her business just before we met and wow.
Speaker:She has made giant strides since then.
Speaker:If I had to tell you how she does this,
Speaker:it would be that she's always interested in learning,
Speaker:testing ideas and building on what she discovers through taking the
Speaker:next step,
Speaker:always moving forward.
Speaker:So let's take action now and jump right over to hear
Speaker:from Sophie Today.
Speaker:I am so excited to introduce you to Sophie.
Speaker:Lakshmanan Sophie is the face behind Ms.
Speaker:Papercraft a paper quilling store making intricate jewelry,
Speaker:ornaments, and keepsake dolls.
Speaker:She paper quilt as a hobby when she was in India,
Speaker:making gifts for friends and family.
Speaker:And then after moving to the U S she noticed the
Speaker:paper quilling wasn't widely known here and jumped at the opportunity.
Speaker:Her goal is to share the paper quilling experience with more
Speaker:people through her jewelry,
Speaker:DIY craft kits and online classes,
Speaker:and also a side fun fact.
Speaker:Sophie is also a chartered accountant on the side,
Speaker:Sophie, welcome to the gift biz on repped podcast.
Speaker:Thank You so much for having me here.
Speaker:I am so excited and we've gotten to know each other
Speaker:quite well over the last year or so,
Speaker:but I'm really excited for this first traditional question.
Speaker:Cause I don't really know for sure what your answer is
Speaker:going to be.
Speaker:So let me ask it and let's see what you have
Speaker:to say.
Speaker:So to help our listeners better understand who you are in
Speaker:a creative way,
Speaker:if you were to create a motivational candle that really speaks
Speaker:to you,
Speaker:what would it look like by color and quote?
Speaker:So my color is going to be teal because that's my
Speaker:brand color and that's my favorite color.
Speaker:Anything has to be peeled for me.
Speaker:So it's always teal.
Speaker:And my court,
Speaker:I had to think about it.
Speaker:And what I usually see on a day to day basis
Speaker:is everything happens for a reason.
Speaker:We might not know why immediately,
Speaker:but eventually we'll know everything will fall in place and we'll
Speaker:get to know it.
Speaker:This is why this happened.
Speaker:A simple example,
Speaker:our interview,
Speaker:we were supposed to start off an hour ago,
Speaker:and then you had some network issues and I was running
Speaker:a little late,
Speaker:but your network issues helped me finish up the things which
Speaker:I wanted to do in between.
Speaker:So it's like,
Speaker:you didn't know why that happened,
Speaker:but then there was a reason for it because I was
Speaker:running late.
Speaker:So everything happens for a reason kind of.
Speaker:Yes. But you don't always know what the reason is when
Speaker:it's happening.
Speaker:Yes. Yeah.
Speaker:And I think that's a good point.
Speaker:The mystery is going to be in the future.
Speaker:Yeah, for us,
Speaker:it was really quick.
Speaker:It was in with 30 minutes.
Speaker:Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:Sometimes I'll hear people talk about how they've started their business
Speaker:later. And they didn't really even understand why things that they
Speaker:were doing when they were younger,
Speaker:had so much passion and they spend so much time on
Speaker:it and they did it then just for enjoyment.
Speaker:But then they look back and they say,
Speaker:wow, that helped me so much for what I'm doing today.
Speaker:True. That's also my story actually,
Speaker:Then that was perfect.
Speaker:See, we're already doing it.
Speaker:That's why that code really sticks to me because I didn't
Speaker:know why I was doing it,
Speaker:but now I know why.
Speaker:Right. Always for a reason,
Speaker:I will share with us a little bit of your journey
Speaker:into where you got into today.
Speaker:So my journey is I'm a paper calling artists,
Speaker:as you said,
Speaker:and I started paper quilling way back in 2012.
Speaker:And that was just for fun to make some birthday gift
Speaker:for a friend.
Speaker:That's where it all started.
Speaker:I was looking up online on YouTube for something new to
Speaker:do. And this just came up and I was like,
Speaker:okay, let me try that.
Speaker:It kind of worked out within half an hour.
Speaker:I could just make something.
Speaker:And with something entirely new,
Speaker:which I hadn't done,
Speaker:I was so impressed with what I could do with that.
Speaker:So I started looking on more videos and doing more gifts
Speaker:since then every gift I make,
Speaker:I would try to do something,
Speaker:paper cooling in it because most people are not aware of
Speaker:it. So when they see something which is made of paper,
Speaker:which looks real,
Speaker:they're like amiss.
Speaker:And I just love that expression,
Speaker:seeing them they're like amazing that gift.
Speaker:And then I get to tell a story about how and
Speaker:what the gift is.
Speaker:And I remember that gift for a very long,
Speaker:That is really too cause that's happened to me.
Speaker:As I've gotten to know new over the course of this
Speaker:year, you will show some pictures online and I'm like,
Speaker:wait, no,
Speaker:Sophie is that paper quilled as a base or you paper
Speaker:quilt that whole like it's astounding and amazing to me that
Speaker:that's all paper calling and now I've gotten to see it
Speaker:a little bit more and understand it better.
Speaker:But that exact experience that you just described happened,
Speaker:and it happened to others of us who were exposed to
Speaker:you too.
Speaker:It's like,
Speaker:Whoa, wow.
Speaker:Really? Yeah.
Speaker:The one paper quilling item and TRIBE made is my favorite.
Speaker:And that's a story which I keep telling again and again,
Speaker:everywhere. I pretty sure you would know that too.
Speaker:It's a cake which I made for my mom's surprise birthday.
Speaker:Tell the story for everyone to hear.
Speaker:That's a good one.
Speaker:Okay. So me and my brother,
Speaker:we were actually planning a surprise birthday for my mom and
Speaker:then me and my friend.
Speaker:We wanted to make something with paper quilling and we were
Speaker:looking at things to do.
Speaker:And then we saw this paper quilt cake online.
Speaker:And so we're like,
Speaker:okay, let's make a small one.
Speaker:And then after that,
Speaker:we're like,
Speaker:no, let's make a real cake,
Speaker:real size cake.
Speaker:So she thinks it's a cake.
Speaker:And since it's a surprise and we're going to give the
Speaker:cake, all of us surprise,
Speaker:she's not going to know that it's not real.
Speaker:And we're going to prank her on her surprise birthday.
Speaker:So we design what we want to do.
Speaker:And then we make my mom go buy all the supplies
Speaker:and come.
Speaker:And she has absolutely no doubt of what I'm doing.
Speaker:She just buys everything.
Speaker:I buy like so much Brown paper for the chocolate cake.
Speaker:And I bought like so much and she didn't ask me
Speaker:one single question.
Speaker:And I had all of that and it was making,
Speaker:and my friend was also making and my friend would take
Speaker:some supplies home she'll make.
Speaker:And when she comes to my house,
Speaker:she'll hide it in her bag.
Speaker:And she lists,
Speaker:sneak it inside to my room.
Speaker:So my mom doesn't see.
Speaker:And then we do all this behind my mom's back.
Speaker:And we made the whole thing.
Speaker:We had invited some friends for the surprise birthday and we
Speaker:told them,
Speaker:Hey, this is there,
Speaker:but we're not going to show you before the actual surprise.
Speaker:And everybody was waiting to see what that is.
Speaker:And we wrapped it.
Speaker:It can actual cake box too,
Speaker:to make it look real,
Speaker:take that real element to another level.
Speaker:So if you had looked at the cake box,
Speaker:you would have just thought is the real cake.
Speaker:So we had it like that and we did all of
Speaker:that. And then after surprise birthday,
Speaker:we had another actual cake.
Speaker:Do we just didn't want to fool everybody with a paper
Speaker:cake. So we had an actual cake also,
Speaker:so we can eat that.
Speaker:So we had her cut the actual cake first,
Speaker:and then we told her,
Speaker:we didn't know,
Speaker:the other person was also getting a cake.
Speaker:So now we have two cakes and we said,
Speaker:we got to sing,
Speaker:happy birthday for you again.
Speaker:And we made her see a stand.
Speaker:We sang happy birthday again.
Speaker:And then we gave her this cake and she takes the
Speaker:knife and she goes real close to the cake.
Speaker:And she's like,
Speaker:Oh no,
Speaker:this is not real.
Speaker:This is the paper cake you guys made this.
Speaker:Oh, Oh,
Speaker:is that story I can never forget.
Speaker:And this is years ago and I still remember it to
Speaker:so much detail.
Speaker:And that's what I love it.
Speaker:Yeah. And it was such an experience for you and your
Speaker:friend to be able to do that together.
Speaker:And your mom unknowingly helping conspire,
Speaker:even though she didn't know.
Speaker:Yeah. She was like,
Speaker:hi blood,
Speaker:all this paper.
Speaker:And I didn't know.
Speaker:Now, one of your products is a miniature,
Speaker:so intricate,
Speaker:so beautiful little cake wedding cake,
Speaker:right? Yes.
Speaker:I did that as a Christmas ornament.
Speaker:So that mini cake,
Speaker:it fits inside your hand.
Speaker:It's that small,
Speaker:but it looks like the original cake,
Speaker:which I made for my mom.
Speaker:And then this goes on the Christmas tree.
Speaker:That is an amazing story.
Speaker:So you had a great experience.
Speaker:I love the idea that initially when you were looking for
Speaker:something for your friend that you just didn't go out and
Speaker:buy any type of a present,
Speaker:you were,
Speaker:I guess weren't seeing something that you really wanted.
Speaker:That was unique enough,
Speaker:which is why you decided to make something.
Speaker:Yes. True.
Speaker:Because I love to do DIY stuff and I get so
Speaker:much happiness in making something with my own hands rather than
Speaker:just go buy a gift from the store.
Speaker:So I always look for something to make when it comes
Speaker:to friends and family,
Speaker:it's like,
Speaker:I always have to make something and they always know that
Speaker:when I give them a gift,
Speaker:it's something handmade,
Speaker:Love it.
Speaker:Absolutely love it.
Speaker:And so then as you are exposed more to the culture
Speaker:here in the U S you saw there's a whole missing
Speaker:element to handmade,
Speaker:which has paper Quine,
Speaker:and you already knew it and you already loved it.
Speaker:So you saw an opening for yourself and share with us
Speaker:when that occurred and what you decided to do about it.
Speaker:When I was back in India,
Speaker:I would do paper quilling only as a hobby.
Speaker:And when I moved to the U S Jew,
Speaker:it was still a hobby.
Speaker:I never dreamt of me being a business woman.
Speaker:I always thought I was going to be a person with
Speaker:a corporate job when I moved to the U S and
Speaker:I was actually looking for paper cooling supplies in my Kohl's
Speaker:and other stores.
Speaker:And I couldn't find as much,
Speaker:I believe only hobby lobby is the one which has,
Speaker:and then I was looking around here locally,
Speaker:if any paper cooling products was there.
Speaker:So I could meet people who are doing paper cooling,
Speaker:you have mastermind groups,
Speaker:or just a fun group.
Speaker:And that's what I was looking for.
Speaker:And I couldn't find any of it here.
Speaker:And then I went to a craft fair and the huge
Speaker:fair, which happened.
Speaker:That was just one person,
Speaker:I believe who had something in paper quilling,
Speaker:but that's it.
Speaker:But you could find so many more people doing clay,
Speaker:glass and origami and all of that.
Speaker:But vapor cooling was just not known here.
Speaker:And when I spoke to the new friends who I made
Speaker:here, they also didn't know what paper cooling meant.
Speaker:So I had to like do a whole explaining thing.
Speaker:And then slowly,
Speaker:there were some people who told me like,
Speaker:Hey, you could probably teach it because not many people know
Speaker:that here.
Speaker:And that was one starting point.
Speaker:And then I love making jewelry for myself,
Speaker:like your earrings to match my clothes.
Speaker:So when I came here,
Speaker:I was just making urines just to match my clothes,
Speaker:different colors and designs,
Speaker:just to do that.
Speaker:So many people were impressed looking at that.
Speaker:So all of that together,
Speaker:one after the other,
Speaker:they just all came together and I was like,
Speaker:okay, maybe I should just stop this as a business because
Speaker:it's something unique,
Speaker:which people don't know here.
Speaker:Yeah. And the thing that's so interesting about all of this
Speaker:is most hobby categories are pretty much covered.
Speaker:Like you're saying glass,
Speaker:or even in paper crafts,
Speaker:it's scrapbooking or other types of things,
Speaker:but you identified and saw that paper quilling wasn't really happening
Speaker:here. And you started getting these little bird seeds.
Speaker:I'll almost say of ideas that led to the final thought
Speaker:of, maybe I should turn this into a business because you
Speaker:saw that there was an opening.
Speaker:So there's potential.
Speaker:Then you're making things for yourself.
Speaker:And people are saying,
Speaker:Oh, those are beautiful.
Speaker:And maybe you should do something with us.
Speaker:Right. So those were little clues.
Speaker:I'll call them bird crumbs.
Speaker:Since I started with that analogy,
Speaker:leading you to the idea.
Speaker:So there was evidence out there that this could have potential.
Speaker:I bring it up and I say it again,
Speaker:just for people who are listening,
Speaker:if there's something that they encounter in either of these ways
Speaker:that they're,
Speaker:they see an opening in something that they're doing.
Speaker:And there,
Speaker:there aren't a lot of people that doesn't mean you shouldn't
Speaker:do it.
Speaker:That could be even more of a reason to pursue it,
Speaker:because there's an opportunity for you to slip in and be
Speaker:one of the main leaders of that category.
Speaker:Or if it's a category that's already populated,
Speaker:like, let's just say jewelry,
Speaker:Sophie, you're doing your jewelry in just a different way.
Speaker:Right. And you're seeing people liking what you're doing.
Speaker:They're complimenting you.
Speaker:Did you have people asking you to make earrings for them?
Speaker:Yes. I have had that too.
Speaker:They would want a specific color specific design,
Speaker:this theme.
Speaker:They have a friend of mine and they say,
Speaker:this friend likes this.
Speaker:And I want her to give her this color because she
Speaker:likes so-and-so color like blue.
Speaker:And then I want to do it this design.
Speaker:And I'm like,
Speaker:okay, I will work something out and get back to you.
Speaker:So it's super fun to create custom pieces.
Speaker:Yeah. So you got some things together.
Speaker:Talk with us a little bit about that first show you
Speaker:went to.
Speaker:Oh yes.
Speaker:When you ran into that other paper quilling person,
Speaker:were you just walking the show as a visitor or were
Speaker:you already exhibiting?
Speaker:No, that was,
Speaker:I believe in the first few months of when I moved
Speaker:to the us,
Speaker:I was just walking through the show.
Speaker:They didn't have the business idea at that time.
Speaker:I was just walking and I just wanted to go to
Speaker:a craft fair and see what's happening there.
Speaker:That's it.
Speaker:I see.
Speaker:Okay. At that time,
Speaker:I didn't think about the business,
Speaker:as I said.
Speaker:And if I had known I would have actually got her
Speaker:contact. So now I don't even know who she is,
Speaker:which is like,
Speaker:I don't know where to go look for her because this
Speaker:happened like a few years ago,
Speaker:but I know there is somebody,
Speaker:but I don't know who she is.
Speaker:Well, she may end up running into you online with paper
Speaker:crawling as things progress here.
Speaker:Yeah. Someday.
Speaker:What was the transition then to starting your business?
Speaker:Take us through your activities of doing that.
Speaker:The way I saw it,
Speaker:My business is I want to do display it and craft
Speaker:shows because obviously people don't know what it is so they
Speaker:will want to see and feel it before they actually buy
Speaker:it, because it's so much more easier when they can actually
Speaker:see the product then through online.
Speaker:So that's why my first strategy was to focus more on
Speaker:craft shows.
Speaker:So I went to one craft show,
Speaker:which I was interested in,
Speaker:and I spoke to the organizer and talked to her about
Speaker:becoming a winder.
Speaker:And she said,
Speaker:this is super unique.
Speaker:And she had jewelries there,
Speaker:but she said,
Speaker:this is so much more indifferent.
Speaker:So let's do that.
Speaker:And a few months later,
Speaker:I was in that craft show.
Speaker:And that was my first one.
Speaker:And I just had yearlings in that because I didn't know,
Speaker:there's so many things you can make with paper cooling.
Speaker:And I just stuck to something which I do on a
Speaker:day-to-day basis.
Speaker:So that was your earrings.
Speaker:And I just did yearlings for that.
Speaker:The craft show,
Speaker:to be honest,
Speaker:did not go as well as I expected because it rained
Speaker:suddenly in the middle of may,
Speaker:which was super weird.
Speaker:It doesn't happen.
Speaker:And the turnout was extremely lower than what they expect for
Speaker:their craft fair.
Speaker:So there was not much turnover.
Speaker:And I made two or three sales.
Speaker:We even planned for a paper cooling class to make hearings,
Speaker:but since it was raining and also because people didn't know
Speaker:what it was,
Speaker:there wasn't anybody who turned up.
Speaker:So we had to actually cancel that class.
Speaker:So I would say the overall that craft show was not
Speaker:great. But then that was a huge learning experience for me.
Speaker:Give us a couple,
Speaker:The learning tips for people who are thinking of doing their
Speaker:first live shows.
Speaker:So They got to know how to set up a book.
Speaker:It's only when you actually set up the boot,
Speaker:you come across all the problems,
Speaker:smaller problems,
Speaker:which come up,
Speaker:but you don't think ahead of time.
Speaker:There's so many things to it.
Speaker:And when we do it for the first time,
Speaker:you actually don't think about those possibilities.
Speaker:If it's windy,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:you need to have all the weights.
Speaker:So your tent doesn't fly away.
Speaker:Things like that.
Speaker:Or if it's raining,
Speaker:you need to make sure everything is covered.
Speaker:There's so many things which you get to know only when
Speaker:you do an actual craft fair.
Speaker:So when I did the craft fair though,
Speaker:I didn't monitor really get much.
Speaker:I just learned so much by way of how to set
Speaker:up, how to interact with my neighboring boots,
Speaker:the vendors I made some contacts there.
Speaker:So I still knew them.
Speaker:I still don't run into one of them out here.
Speaker:She's local to my place.
Speaker:So I do run into her from time to time.
Speaker:So I made some contacts.
Speaker:I know what I should do,
Speaker:how to display your prices.
Speaker:There's a way if it's flat,
Speaker:or if you have too many price signs,
Speaker:people are going to get confused.
Speaker:Do you need to invite people in one way to the
Speaker:booth? And there is a progression throughout your booth.
Speaker:So it's like a story kind.
Speaker:So I noticed you actually do it.
Speaker:You're not going to think about all these things.
Speaker:So that way I learned a lot.
Speaker:Yeah. I guess I would say that each booth is going
Speaker:to be different too,
Speaker:based on the way you display things.
Speaker:So it really has to be a learning for yourself.
Speaker:You can listen to what other people say,
Speaker:but then with your products and the way you've decided to
Speaker:display with the cases,
Speaker:or if you're displaying things on the twigs for a background,
Speaker:whatever, it's all going to be different a little bit based
Speaker:on what you do with the imagery that you have in
Speaker:the way you're displaying in your booth.
Speaker:So I love what you're talking about here with this first
Speaker:show of it being so much more than just the sales.
Speaker:I mean the sales too,
Speaker:and we're two or three of those sales from strangers.
Speaker:There was one from a stranger and the other two were
Speaker:from other windows,
Speaker:Other vendors.
Speaker:Okay. But people that you didn't know before the show.
Speaker:Yeah. True.
Speaker:Which is also telling you that there's interest in your products,
Speaker:right? Yes.
Speaker:There's so much that you can learn from a show,
Speaker:how to set up a booth relationships with other vendors,
Speaker:getting feedback on your product,
Speaker:All of that.
Speaker:Yes. Yeah.
Speaker:Okay. So you did your first show and what year was
Speaker:that? This was 2019 two years ago.
Speaker:Yeah. Okay.
Speaker:And were you going to make another comment about the show?
Speaker:Oh no.
Speaker:So that was my first show.
Speaker:I was going to say,
Speaker:my second show was also something similar and it didn't go
Speaker:out grade.
Speaker:Oh no.
Speaker:What happened There?
Speaker:Was it a weather thing again or something else?
Speaker:No. The first one was an indoor thing and it was
Speaker:raining outside.
Speaker:So people didn't turn up.
Speaker:The second one was,
Speaker:it was partly my fault because I didn't research about the
Speaker:foot traffic for that show.
Speaker:So I got to know later that was like,
Speaker:not as much foot traffic as I wanted.
Speaker:Plus it was extremely windy on that day.
Speaker:I couldn't keep any of my products up.
Speaker:Right. Everything had to be flat on my table,
Speaker:otherwise it's going to fly away.
Speaker:So I had to literally put everything down.
Speaker:Oh dear.
Speaker:So learning.
Speaker:So what is your position right now about shows Today?
Speaker:Now I'm pretty like comfortable.
Speaker:I know what I need.
Speaker:Like the foot traffic I need to do.
Speaker:I need to research that needs to be a certain foot
Speaker:traffic. So I only,
Speaker:then it's worth my time to go do the tent set
Speaker:up and do all the dress play,
Speaker:and then arranging the products in a particular way.
Speaker:So it's not all over the place and they can see,
Speaker:this is your earrings and this is our tournaments.
Speaker:And this is that.
Speaker:So there's a clear categorization.
Speaker:And the biggest thing,
Speaker:which I learned,
Speaker:which is,
Speaker:I believe it's specific to me is because I have to
Speaker:tell them that this is made of paper because I've had
Speaker:people ask me,
Speaker:Oh, I assume this was made of wood.
Speaker:I thought this was made of clay.
Speaker:They just say something no it's made of,
Speaker:and then they're like,
Speaker:Oh, okay.
Speaker:This is so different.
Speaker:And then they're super interested in it.
Speaker:But otherwise you just assume it's something and they just walk
Speaker:away. Yeah.
Speaker:And that makes so much sense.
Speaker:Knowing your products and having some of your earrings,
Speaker:I could see where people would think that it was wood
Speaker:yet it is paper.
Speaker:And honestly,
Speaker:and I've told you this before Sophie,
Speaker:I was surprised because the earrings that I've gotten from you
Speaker:are bigger than the normal size earrings that I normally wear,
Speaker:but they're so light.
Speaker:They're light.
Speaker:Yes. And they're durable because however you code it,
Speaker:industry secret probably for making your earrings.
Speaker:But you would think if they're earrings of paper,
Speaker:what you're going to be able to wear them one or
Speaker:two times,
Speaker:and then it's over.
Speaker:No, they're so durable.
Speaker:But I would think that they were wood.
Speaker:You're absolutely right.
Speaker:Yeah. And then my third Crawford was like the game changer
Speaker:for me.
Speaker:Because at that point I was just thinking people are not
Speaker:interested in paper querying.
Speaker:They just don't know what it is and they don't want
Speaker:to buy it because until then I hadn't actually seen the
Speaker:reaction from,
Speaker:so I wasn't that straight.
Speaker:I didn't know that there was other factors which were actually
Speaker:causing the fact that nobody's coming in buying.
Speaker:So is it a third craft fair?
Speaker:I had no expectations.
Speaker:It was a bigger craft fair though in our city.
Speaker:So I was excited for that,
Speaker:but I didn't know what to expect out of it.
Speaker:I made ornaments and yearnings.
Speaker:It was at Christmas craft fair in 2019.
Speaker:And that was by far my best craft fair because my
Speaker:armaments just sold out in the morning.
Speaker:They were like probably one or two left.
Speaker:Everything went off in like a couple of hours in the
Speaker:morning. That's it?
Speaker:And I was so surprised by that.
Speaker:What I did a little different proffer is every person who
Speaker:would walk by,
Speaker:I would say hello.
Speaker:I would say,
Speaker:good morning.
Speaker:I would say,
Speaker:just come in and look by.
Speaker:And then I would tell them that this is made of
Speaker:paper. I wouldn't be very specific to tell them that.
Speaker:So they know it's made of paper.
Speaker:And the reason behind that was I started to realize that
Speaker:what I know about paper quilling is not the same,
Speaker:what the customer knows about paper quilling.
Speaker:So I had to actually spell it out to them so
Speaker:they understand it.
Speaker:And that actually worked out.
Speaker:I had so many great conversations.
Speaker:I even had one person who found me on Etsy at
Speaker:that time because I didn't have a,
Speaker:so she found me on Etsy afterwards.
Speaker:And she said she needs so many more arguments because she
Speaker:just loved them.
Speaker:And that was my best craft fair.
Speaker:And what if you would have stopped after the second one?
Speaker:What if you would have just said no,
Speaker:this isn't working.
Speaker:That's also true,
Speaker:but I'm so glad I did the other one.
Speaker:What made you to do it again?
Speaker:You had two that didn't turn out as well as you
Speaker:would have liked.
Speaker:I actually paid for it before,
Speaker:so that's why I didn't go back.
Speaker:I had to pay like three,
Speaker:four months ahead of time to get in because I was
Speaker:a new vendor.
Speaker:So I had already done it.
Speaker:I had been to that craft for the previous year.
Speaker:So I knew it was a bigger one at that time.
Speaker:And I saw,
Speaker:I was like,
Speaker:I'm just going to go all in on that.
Speaker:I had baited before.
Speaker:Well, I'm so glad you did.
Speaker:And I think what I'm hearing from you is each show
Speaker:you analyzed afterwards what happened,
Speaker:what you might want to do differently for the next show.
Speaker:And then you go and implement that and then get better
Speaker:yet again.
Speaker:And then you saw now you have kind of a recipe
Speaker:for making shows,
Speaker:work for you and what types of shows to look at
Speaker:and attend and all of that.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:I have so much to talk with you about we're going
Speaker:to move on because we could talk about shows like this
Speaker:forever. All right.
Speaker:What was the next step in the development of your business?
Speaker:What did you do after this?
Speaker:So now we're at the end of 2019.
Speaker:After that,
Speaker:I believe it heard a month break.
Speaker:I was on vacation.
Speaker:And then when I came back,
Speaker:I started to look for craft shows again,
Speaker:but that was also around that time when the pandemic set
Speaker:in, right,
Speaker:it was just before the lockdown started.
Speaker:So I was little,
Speaker:like, I didn't want to do a craft fairs because it
Speaker:was going to be too much in person.
Speaker:And a few weeks later,
Speaker:anyway, the pandemic came and everything got shut down.
Speaker:So I was looking for a different way to sell.
Speaker:And my whole business was based on,
Speaker:I wanted to do a craft fair so people can see
Speaker:and get to know.
Speaker:And now that was going to be something which I couldn't
Speaker:do right now.
Speaker:And I was looking for different things that was also around
Speaker:the same time when I listened to your masterclass and your
Speaker:maker's MBA.
Speaker:So I had listened to this six months before,
Speaker:and at that time I didn't join makers MBA because at
Speaker:that point it was around my second craft fair,
Speaker:I believe.
Speaker:And I was listening to so many podcasts and so many
Speaker:of these masterclasses.
Speaker:And at the end of every masterclass,
Speaker:I would be like,
Speaker:the person would sell some program for so many thousand dollars.
Speaker:And I'll be like,
Speaker:no, I don't want to do this.
Speaker:It just became a pattern.
Speaker:It was just becoming too much on me.
Speaker:So I was lost and I had listened to yours six
Speaker:months ago and I didn't join.
Speaker:But then I was still listening to your podcast very frequently.
Speaker:And I just loved your content.
Speaker:And I've told you this before I was listening to somebody
Speaker:else's spot costs.
Speaker:And it was the same thing based on craft business.
Speaker:But then they made the podcast sounds so sad.
Speaker:And right after that podcast,
Speaker:I was listening to yours back to back.
Speaker:And I'm like,
Speaker:this one feels so happy.
Speaker:The overall mood in the podcast was so different.
Speaker:And that was also a point where I started listening to
Speaker:more of your podcasts and I just loved the content and
Speaker:you're doing the weekly podcast is so amazing.
Speaker:And then when I did your master class,
Speaker:I believe in March,
Speaker:I instantly joined the makers MBA because now I needed somebody
Speaker:to guide me to tell me what's my other options.
Speaker:How else to go from there?
Speaker:That's why I came to maker's MBA at that point.
Speaker:Well, I love hearing that story again and thank you for
Speaker:all the compliments they make my day.
Speaker:For sure.
Speaker:So I appreciate all of that.
Speaker:And as I'm listening to you talking about it,
Speaker:I remember me during that time,
Speaker:because we were already doing the webinars,
Speaker:the masterclass,
Speaker:but in my heart,
Speaker:I was saying,
Speaker:do I shut all this down?
Speaker:How right.
Speaker:Is it to be talking about starting your business now?
Speaker:And having people invest in it or should we shut it
Speaker:down? Like what was the right thing to do?
Speaker:And I'm so glad that you talk about the fact that
Speaker:it came at the right time for you,
Speaker:because that just reinforces that,
Speaker:keeping it open was right.
Speaker:And as you know,
Speaker:we had amazing people like in your group for the last
Speaker:year, it was an amazing group of people.
Speaker:I appreciate you saying that because now I kind of feel
Speaker:like if we would have shut it down,
Speaker:you and I would have never connected.
Speaker:True. And that would be terrible.
Speaker:Yeah. Maybe we would have.
Speaker:Yeah. So what I want to say is that the maker's
Speaker:MBA actually taught me so many things,
Speaker:which I never thought of when I started in 2019,
Speaker:since I have learned the business side in like my education
Speaker:wise. So I knew I had to get some licenses before
Speaker:I start.
Speaker:So I'm like legally set.
Speaker:But what I didn't know is that I need to go
Speaker:do networking.
Speaker:I need to have go website too,
Speaker:because that's my space,
Speaker:an email list.
Speaker:And all of those things were super new to me.
Speaker:And I didn't think those were necessary.
Speaker:I just went ahead with getting some licenses,
Speaker:making some products and going to craft shows.
Speaker:That's all I did.
Speaker:But doing the chorus actually showed me.
Speaker:There are so many factors which play a role out there.
Speaker:Yeah. And as you know,
Speaker:you can go back to that course any time now,
Speaker:you and relook at all of the different modules,
Speaker:enhance what you're doing,
Speaker:all of that.
Speaker:And I want all of you guys who are listening,
Speaker:you have to go and look at Sophie's website.
Speaker:We spent a lot of time on it.
Speaker:It looks beautiful.
Speaker:I love it so much.
Speaker:Thank you for all of that.
Speaker:Just a little inside peek for some other people about what
Speaker:maker's MBA looks like,
Speaker:because it will be coming up again shortly.
Speaker:We do this once a year.
Speaker:So right now,
Speaker:no one can join,
Speaker:but shortly they will be able to.
Speaker:And I'm looking forward to seeing who comes in for this
Speaker:next round.
Speaker:It's always,
Speaker:but another thing that's part of maker's MBA that you are
Speaker:a rock star at SoFi is social media.
Speaker:You are crazy.
Speaker:In fact,
Speaker:after maker's MBA,
Speaker:there's an opportunity to continue working with me through the VIP
Speaker:program which you're doing.
Speaker:And you've now become a teacher within VIP of how to
Speaker:do video on social,
Speaker:which is so exciting just to see your progress over the
Speaker:course of this year has been amazing.
Speaker:Let's talk a little bit about social media and I think
Speaker:your journey there,
Speaker:what platform did you start on?
Speaker:How have you enhanced it?
Speaker:And then let's merge into the video to social media,
Speaker:the topic everyone wants to know about all the time.
Speaker:And we are going to hear what Sophie has to say
Speaker:about it right after this quick break.
Speaker:Yes, it's possible increase your sales without adding a single customer.
Speaker:How you ask by offering personalization with your products,
Speaker:wrap a cake box with a ribbon saying happy 30th birthday,
Speaker:Annie, or at a special message and date to wedding or
Speaker:party favors for an extra meaningful touch.
Speaker:Where else can you get customization with a creatively spelled name
Speaker:or find packaging?
Speaker:That includes a saying whose meaning is known to a select
Speaker:to not only our customers willing to pay for these special
Speaker:touches. They'll tell their friends and word will spread about your
Speaker:company and products.
Speaker:You can create personalized ribbons and labels in seconds,
Speaker:make just one or thousands without waiting weeks or having to
Speaker:spend money to order yards and yards print words in any
Speaker:language or font,
Speaker:add logos,
Speaker:images, even photos,
Speaker:perfect for branding or adding ingredient and flavor labels to for
Speaker:more information,
Speaker:go to the ribbon print company.com.
Speaker:So I started on Instagram and Facebook.
Speaker:And till today I still use only those two.
Speaker:And it's more of Instagram than Facebook.
Speaker:How did you decide what was the reasoning behind your choices?
Speaker:Because on a personal profile,
Speaker:I was using more of Instagram and I loved how it's
Speaker:just a photograph and just caption below it.
Speaker:So I was more drawn towards Instagram than Facebook because Facebook
Speaker:was having so many things happening on there.
Speaker:They had the groups and then they have,
Speaker:I don't know,
Speaker:it was just the caption or just a picture in caption.
Speaker:And it,
Speaker:those so many things which I had to,
Speaker:and on my personal side,
Speaker:I was just more drawn to Instagram.
Speaker:So I just would do Instagram for business.
Speaker:Good point for people who are listening,
Speaker:you felt very comfortable and you enjoyed that platform,
Speaker:which is why you gravitated there.
Speaker:Yeah. I need something which is broken down into a proper
Speaker:system so I can understand it.
Speaker:And Instagram made more sense to me because it was a
Speaker:photo with a caption and it was pretty standard at that
Speaker:time when I was using it personally,
Speaker:now that so much more,
Speaker:but for,
Speaker:I need something which is standardized and set,
Speaker:there should be a system behind it.
Speaker:Otherwise it's difficult for me to comprehend.
Speaker:So that's the reason I chose Instagram.
Speaker:And till today I am still preferring Instagram because I just
Speaker:love all the new features they put in there.
Speaker:But I will still say that social media is a struggle
Speaker:for me because you need to be more consistent with it.
Speaker:And I find it so difficult to be consistent because I
Speaker:do my small business as well as work my nine to
Speaker:five. So there are two things which I do,
Speaker:and there's so much on my plate.
Speaker:So it's still a struggle,
Speaker:but I love doing my Instagram,
Speaker:especially the videos.
Speaker:As you said,
Speaker:I love a new app where I have to like go
Speaker:and find out what is this feature and how it works.
Speaker:So I love to go dig into all the new apps
Speaker:which come around and I do look for new apps on
Speaker:Instagram and see what other people use.
Speaker:And that's how I came across the InShot app and which
Speaker:I love to date to make videos,
Speaker:reels all of it.
Speaker:And that's the average I actually showed all of you how
Speaker:to use.
Speaker:It's so great.
Speaker:I'd love for all of you guys to go over and
Speaker:see Sophie's Instagram account,
Speaker:because you'll see the videos and the reels and all of
Speaker:that, that she does.
Speaker:And she does most of it.
Speaker:If not all of your videos now within chat,
Speaker:right? Yes.
Speaker:But they're so creative the way you speed it up,
Speaker:slow it down.
Speaker:Talk about it,
Speaker:show yourself on camera.
Speaker:Right? Which a lot of people are so anxious about doing,
Speaker:but it's one thing to listen to Sophie's voice,
Speaker:which is so calming and peaceful.
Speaker:I know you are all experiencing that through the audio here,
Speaker:but then when you see her on camera talking about her
Speaker:pieces, you can't help,
Speaker:but love her even more.
Speaker:And that's the power of going live and doing videos,
Speaker:right? Not just of yourself,
Speaker:but also of you making product and all of that.
Speaker:So Sophie,
Speaker:you are such a perfect,
Speaker:perfect example of this.
Speaker:Can you help anybody?
Speaker:Who's like,
Speaker:that is so super scary to me.
Speaker:I don't want to put my face out there.
Speaker:What would you say to somebody who's just so tentative about
Speaker:that? Instagram has a lot of filters.
Speaker:If you don't want to show your face,
Speaker:put your heart in your face and make it look crazy.
Speaker:So they just get distracted by it.
Speaker:If you actually don't want to literally show your face,
Speaker:you could still talk from behind your phone and show your
Speaker:hands and make something that's still works because that's still a
Speaker:widow and you're actually doing something people can see and they
Speaker:hear your voice.
Speaker:They don't see your face.
Speaker:Eventually you can show your face,
Speaker:but to begin with,
Speaker:you can just show something with just your hands,
Speaker:how you're making it.
Speaker:So it's a start for you to get comfortable.
Speaker:One thing at a time,
Speaker:do your voice for us and then show your face.
Speaker:It's just takes small steps.
Speaker:Yes. By step.
Speaker:Well, and the other thing that's really nice about Instagram now
Speaker:is it's transitioned from being this picture.
Speaker:Perfect, beautifully organized upscale magazine,
Speaker:to being more real and authentic and who you are.
Speaker:So that takes a little bit of the edge off.
Speaker:If we're not all graphic designers and we don't have the
Speaker:grid laid out.
Speaker:Exactly perfect.
Speaker:And you know,
Speaker:all those things.
Speaker:Yeah. It just reduces a little bit of stress that the
Speaker:credit doesn't have to be like a magazine,
Speaker:but since they're like more subscribers right now than ever.
Speaker:So you still need better photos to stand out from the
Speaker:crowd in that whole explore page,
Speaker:which you see does,
Speaker:like so many things are just happening and only when your
Speaker:picture stands out,
Speaker:people are actually going to click that and come to it.
Speaker:You still need a good picture.
Speaker:Yep. Good pictures in the feed.
Speaker:But then if you're in stories,
Speaker:that should be just you day to day.
Speaker:We're not going to go into the whole Instagram thing,
Speaker:but I really wanted to talk about video and the value
Speaker:of video.
Speaker:And also you showing up in front of the camera.
Speaker:And do you Sophie see that those are the most engaged
Speaker:posts or the posts that you get the most views?
Speaker:The ones that are video?
Speaker:Absolutely true.
Speaker:Sue, because I have done a few Instagram reels and till
Speaker:now the best ones for me are the ones where my
Speaker:face is there in it.
Speaker:The ones where I'm not there.
Speaker:And like,
Speaker:it's just my hand.
Speaker:Or if it's just some product it's not done as well
Speaker:as the ones where my face is there in it.
Speaker:That's interesting.
Speaker:I would have thought that they would be equal.
Speaker:No, they're not.
Speaker:Because with ones you do with your hands,
Speaker:as you're showing how the pieces are coming together and you
Speaker:speed it up.
Speaker:So I thought they would be equally as engaging,
Speaker:but you're saying with your face.
Speaker:So I love that.
Speaker:Well, plus you're so super cute Is that yeah,
Speaker:there are so many factors which play into which Instagram real
Speaker:works or not.
Speaker:It's the time and the hashtags and it's cute caption.
Speaker:And it's actually what's in your reel also.
Speaker:So there are so many factors,
Speaker:but from the few which I have done,
Speaker:the ones where my face is,
Speaker:there has done really better than the ones where my face
Speaker:is not there.
Speaker:Okay. Interesting.
Speaker:Something for us all to remember and do,
Speaker:put your fears aside and just do it.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:I want to move on.
Speaker:Once again,
Speaker:here, we've talked about craft shows face-to-face and I was so
Speaker:happy that you joined us last December for the online craft
Speaker:show, with the at-home craft and gift show.
Speaker:So I'd love to talk through a little bit of that
Speaker:experience. And let me just brief people who are listening,
Speaker:who don't know about that.
Speaker:So this is not a face-to-face trade show,
Speaker:like a wholesale show that just went online.
Speaker:It's also not a direct to consumer show that would normally
Speaker:be face-to-face that went online.
Speaker:This is a brand new platform and company it's called at-home
Speaker:events. And I am sponsoring their craft and gift shows.
Speaker:But the whole point is it's specifically made for online and
Speaker:also direct to consumer.
Speaker:So the first craft and gift show was last December and
Speaker:Sophie, you were a participant.
Speaker:And so I'd love to have you talk through your experience
Speaker:with that.
Speaker:So that cross show was really amazing to me on different
Speaker:aspects, but I also have to give another background the day
Speaker:this online craft show began the same day.
Speaker:I had another in-person craft show shadow,
Speaker:which was the same Christmas fair as the previous year in
Speaker:2019. So I was first doubtful whether I could do both
Speaker:and I even call you so telling that,
Speaker:Hey, it's both are there and I don't think I can
Speaker:do, but then I thought let's just do both.
Speaker:I can still do the video calls from my booth and
Speaker:I can actually turn it around and actually show the booth
Speaker:which I have for display at my craft fair in the
Speaker:watch will show.
Speaker:So I just tried to turn it around and do it
Speaker:that way.
Speaker:But then my in-person craft fair got canceled in the last
Speaker:minute. So it ended up being a good thing.
Speaker:Yeah. She ended up being a good thing because I could
Speaker:like fully do the online craft for,
Speaker:in like a hundred person or I'd say 200% because now
Speaker:I was more in Western because one craft fair got canceled.
Speaker:It got canceled like four days before the actual event.
Speaker:So I was super stressed.
Speaker:Yeah. Oh gosh.
Speaker:Yeah. And that's not great for you because at that point
Speaker:you have a lot of product already made and they probably
Speaker:were also,
Speaker:did you have ornaments for that as well?
Speaker:Yes, because the previous year,
Speaker:my ornaments sold out super quick and I didn't have anything
Speaker:to show the people after who came like in the afternoons,
Speaker:I made more ornaments this time.
Speaker:I was like being prepared because they were pretty sure that
Speaker:the event was going to happen.
Speaker:The previous year I paid three,
Speaker:four months ahead for the show.
Speaker:And this time they just took the money only three weeks
Speaker:before saying that we want to be absolutely sure.
Speaker:Before we go ahead and they were like,
Speaker:absolutely sure.
Speaker:But then four days before the event,
Speaker:they were like,
Speaker:Nope, there's a lockdown again.
Speaker:We cannot have the craft fair.
Speaker:Yeah. I mean,
Speaker:out of their control,
Speaker:it wasn't their fault.
Speaker:Of course.
Speaker:Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:But that is one good thing about online shows is it
Speaker:doesn't matter about the weather.
Speaker:It doesn't matter about a virus.
Speaker:It can go on regardless plus it's a national audience.
Speaker:So if you would have been able to do both at
Speaker:the same time,
Speaker:you would have been able to capture your local audience and
Speaker:then also the national audience.
Speaker:And it's almost,
Speaker:you put in the same amount of time in and getting
Speaker:more bang for your buck.
Speaker:Really? Yes.
Speaker:Now that one show was not that.
Speaker:And I had only one to give my full attention to,
Speaker:so I was all in into it.
Speaker:So I read it,
Speaker:the craft for display at home.
Speaker:So when they would come to my watch will boot,
Speaker:they would actually see me with all the craft display.
Speaker:And I also did a live demo like a specific time.
Speaker:So people can come in and see how paper cooling actually
Speaker:works. And the best part of all this is I could
Speaker:actually reach out to friends and family who are not in
Speaker:my place and tell them,
Speaker:Hey, I am doing this and it's an online event.
Speaker:So you can also join in because until then it was
Speaker:all local crafters and all my family was so far away.
Speaker:So they couldn't,
Speaker:even if I tell them,
Speaker:it's not that they're going to come over here for the
Speaker:physical Crawford.
Speaker:So having it online,
Speaker:it's like gave me an advantage to tell them this is
Speaker:happening. So you guys can join in from wherever you are.
Speaker:You don't have to be there in my place.
Speaker:You can just join from where you are and you can
Speaker:see everything.
Speaker:And it's just not me.
Speaker:There's so many more people out there.
Speaker:So many different handmade people.
Speaker:So it's like the perfect place to get your Christmas gifts.
Speaker:So it was like a win-win win for me.
Speaker:Well, and the other thing I'm thinking too is now that
Speaker:you're so active,
Speaker:and I know you're saying you need to post more and
Speaker:all of that,
Speaker:but you collected a lot of Instagram followers to who now
Speaker:would have the opportunity to also show up and see you.
Speaker:Yes, it's a lot.
Speaker:I did collect some emails too,
Speaker:so I can email them now,
Speaker:which I didn't do before,
Speaker:because I didn't know how to collect emails before.
Speaker:So it was like so many learnings happened or word that
Speaker:one craft fair.
Speaker:Yeah. Well that is one of the great things.
Speaker:And that's one of the reasons why I am so,
Speaker:so excited about being connected with,
Speaker:at home events is,
Speaker:and you know,
Speaker:this already Sophie,
Speaker:but for people who aren't familiar with it,
Speaker:there are more and more people who are starting to do
Speaker:some of these virtual online shows because everyone seeing that this
Speaker:is a good opportunity.
Speaker:Moving forward.
Speaker:The couple of things that at-home events does differently is they
Speaker:do a lot of training behind the scenes to show you
Speaker:the elements to have in place.
Speaker:And one of them is to collect emails because we want
Speaker:this to be all inclusive of what you should be doing
Speaker:just as an overall business.
Speaker:So you took advantage of that.
Speaker:I know a lot of vendors did.
Speaker:And for some people it was the very first time they'd
Speaker:ever taken emails.
Speaker:So it was the start to the email list.
Speaker:The other thing that's different with this show is as Sophie
Speaker:is referencing that she could talk with people.
Speaker:There's a live element.
Speaker:So Sophie is at her home,
Speaker:a booth in this case,
Speaker:or you could have been at your show booth if you
Speaker:were doing both of the shows.
Speaker:And if someone wanted to pop in and talk with Sophie
Speaker:directly, there was a button and let's face it.
Speaker:It wasn't zoom technology,
Speaker:but we're also comfortable with zoom.
Speaker:Now people can do that and feel comfortable and talk directly
Speaker:with you,
Speaker:Sophie. So did you have a lot of people popping in
Speaker:and saying hi and asking questions?
Speaker:I wouldn't say a lot,
Speaker:but I had a few people who did pop in to
Speaker:see what it was.
Speaker:And I had a few people to join in for the
Speaker:demo. So it was overall,
Speaker:it was fine because there was so many boots.
Speaker:I understand if a person cannot go to every single book,
Speaker:but I did have a few people who came in and
Speaker:they saw what it was.
Speaker:Yeah. And I think we also,
Speaker:as this becomes more standard and people start seeing that this
Speaker:is especially with at-home events,
Speaker:that this is something that they can do because you know
Speaker:that there are people who were in there in December who
Speaker:will start coming to the other shows because now they know
Speaker:about it and they know how it works.
Speaker:So I think there'll be more booth interaction as we move
Speaker:forward too.
Speaker:So Sophie,
Speaker:I have to say,
Speaker:I really wanted to get into talking about your online DIY
Speaker:projects that you've started,
Speaker:but I don't think we're going to have time to cover
Speaker:it and do it justice.
Speaker:So I would love to have you back on maybe in
Speaker:a month or two,
Speaker:where we can talk about that specifically,
Speaker:because that's such a huge opportunity for you.
Speaker:And like I said,
Speaker:I'd like to dive deeper into it a little bit with
Speaker:your experience,
Speaker:how you came about doing it and things like that.
Speaker:Because I think other people here in makers,
Speaker:they're not paper coolers,
Speaker:but other types of makers can be sharing their craft too,
Speaker:of how to do things.
Speaker:In addition to selling their products.
Speaker:It doesn't have to be one or the other.
Speaker:Yes. Okay.
Speaker:Super. All right.
Speaker:So I would love for you guys give fizzles,
Speaker:and as I told you,
Speaker:you have to go back and see Sophie's website.
Speaker:Now I'm giving you assignments website now and Instagram account,
Speaker:just to see how things have evolved,
Speaker:her products,
Speaker:what she's doing.
Speaker:You've got to see it just for the picture,
Speaker:quality, the videos and all of that.
Speaker:But when you're looking also consider the types of things that
Speaker:you could pick up,
Speaker:not by copying,
Speaker:but just as inspiration of what you can do for your
Speaker:own business to Sophie.
Speaker:I absolutely adore you.
Speaker:I love that.
Speaker:You're part of our makers,
Speaker:MBA community.
Speaker:You are like the model student,
Speaker:and you're such a great example of how to build a
Speaker:business because you were very methodical.
Speaker:You were willing to try things out.
Speaker:You continue to do that.
Speaker:And now I'm seeing you kind of making an evolution.
Speaker:You're always building your business,
Speaker:but now you're also paying it forward to,
Speaker:to help other makers.
Speaker:And that is just such a beautiful thing to say.
Speaker:So if you were to tell our listeners where they can
Speaker:go and find out more about you,
Speaker:where's the single place that you would want them to go?
Speaker:I would say Instagram,
Speaker:that's my first place,
Speaker:which I'm always there.
Speaker:So that's Instagram and it's at the rate.
Speaker:M I S S underscore P a P E R underscore
Speaker:C a F T Ms.
Speaker:Underscore paper underscore craft.
Speaker:Perfect. Wonderful.
Speaker:And what do you see as you move forward?
Speaker:Where are you focusing on for this year in the future?
Speaker:So for this year,
Speaker:I am focusing more on craft kits,
Speaker:DIY craft kits.
Speaker:So people can expedience paper cooling with their hands.
Speaker:Now that they,
Speaker:like, we spend a lot of time at home and we're
Speaker:just looking for new things to do.
Speaker:And paper cooling,
Speaker:craft kit is something which is new for most people.
Speaker:For me,
Speaker:I take half an hour,
Speaker:but you have done that Sue.
Speaker:So I know it takes much more time for a new
Speaker:person to do.
Speaker:And it's not just one person doing,
Speaker:you can do that as a family.
Speaker:So in that way you create like a family time and
Speaker:you get together and create memories,
Speaker:making that.
Speaker:Absolutely. And so I've been making your snowflakes and you say
Speaker:it only takes you half an hour to make a whole
Speaker:snowflake. Yes.
Speaker:I think the first time it took me two hours.
Speaker:I was also watching a football game though.
Speaker:So I did stop when they were good plays and I
Speaker:jump up and down and scream if my team is winning,
Speaker:go bears,
Speaker:but I bet you now I might be able to do
Speaker:it in an hour.
Speaker:Maybe I'm not sure,
Speaker:but the thing that's so cool about them,
Speaker:Sophie is the finished result looks so much more intricate and
Speaker:complicated than when you put it together.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:it's such a big impression,
Speaker:but when you know the elements and you follow along with
Speaker:what you instruct and you have a video as well,
Speaker:it's easier.
Speaker:But when you see the finished product,
Speaker:it looks like,
Speaker:Oh my gosh,
Speaker:how did you even do that?
Speaker:Yes, that's the whole point.
Speaker:When people see the product,
Speaker:they're like,
Speaker:Oh my God,
Speaker:this is so difficult.
Speaker:I don't think I can make this.
Speaker:And I don't have crafty hands and all that thing.
Speaker:But then when they actually do it,
Speaker:it's super easy.
Speaker:It's just a rapid process.
Speaker:And when you put all that together,
Speaker:it looks something totally different.
Speaker:And that's what makes payback real.
Speaker:Yeah. And then you feel really good about yourself too.
Speaker:Like, look at what I did.
Speaker:Right. I mean,
Speaker:nobody knows when you show that to them,
Speaker:that it's just that repetitive process.
Speaker:But when they see the whole product,
Speaker:they are like,
Speaker:so impressed with it.
Speaker:It's just amazing when somebody is impressed with what you do.
Speaker:Yeah. Well,
Speaker:and now you're making more intricate designs.
Speaker:So there's more and more,
Speaker:and I know you like that creative side,
Speaker:so I can just see this whole DIY kit expanding and
Speaker:expanding for you.
Speaker:So I love that.
Speaker:That's where your focus is and give biz listeners.
Speaker:We will have.
Speaker:So feedback on,
Speaker:are you willing to come back on again and talk about
Speaker:that? Of Course.
Speaker:So any anytime.
Speaker:Okay. I don't want to be presumptuous and tell everybody without
Speaker:asking you first.
Speaker:So you heard it,
Speaker:Sophie says yes.
Speaker:So down the road a couple months from now or so
Speaker:we'll have Sophie back on and we'll talk about how she's
Speaker:decided to do this and what is all involved In that?
Speaker:So Sophie,
Speaker:thank you so much.

Speaker:with everything that you're accomplishing.
Speaker:So thanks again for being here today.
Speaker:Thank you so much for having me here.
Speaker:So, because I just loved talking to you and this is
Speaker:so amazing for me and we're going to do it again.
Speaker:So there's the future.
Speaker:I know as we talked about stay tuned because I'll have
Speaker:Sophie back in a few months to talk about what she's
Speaker:doing with her DIY projects and her consignment opportunities.
Speaker:We've already talked about the progress that she's made with both
Speaker:of these.
Speaker:So there'll be a lot to talk about when she comes
Speaker:back on again next week.

Speaker:Now I know if you're just starting,
Speaker:this is the furthest thing from your mind,

Speaker:So your business has assets that could be sold if ever
