Speaker:

Hi there.

Speaker:

I see that you made it over to the new tips

Speaker:

and talk portion of the podcast.

Speaker:

These are bite-sized topics that I pull from community questions and

Speaker:

things that I'm observing in the world of handmade small business.

Speaker:

I'm going to call this the two word challenge by eliminating

Speaker:

these words from your vocabulary.

Speaker:

You're going to communicate in a much stronger and purposeful way,

Speaker:

and you're also going to have a mindset of achievability and

Speaker:

what's possible versus a defeatist mindset.

Speaker:

Why do this first off people are going to listen to

Speaker:

you more.

Speaker:

Have you ever felt like you've insane something,

Speaker:

and either you can tell nobody's listening because they're looking away

Speaker:

or they didn't get what you were talking about.

Speaker:

Possibly it's because of the words that you're using.

Speaker:

So the ability to have people really pay attention to what

Speaker:

you're talking about is one of the results here.

Speaker:

You'll also be seen as more of a professional by the

Speaker:

manner in which you're communicating.

Speaker:

And the really cool thing about eliminating these two words too,

Speaker:

is that as you communicate out in the way that I'm

Speaker:

going to share with you,

Speaker:

you also feel it internally.

Speaker:

So even though you're giving out a stronger presence,

Speaker:

you're also giving back to yourself,

Speaker:

heightened confidence.

Speaker:

Let's dive in right now to the first word.

Speaker:

The word I want you to remove from your vocabulary is

Speaker:

just take this out of your vocabulary.

Speaker:

99% of the time,

Speaker:

if you're doing,

Speaker:

let's say an email and you say as the first line,

Speaker:

and I do this all the time and I have to

Speaker:

catch myself.

Speaker:

If you say,

Speaker:

I just wanted to pop in here to tell you,

Speaker:

and then whatever it is that you're saying by adding that

Speaker:

word just you've already diminished the value of what you're trying

Speaker:

to say.

Speaker:

It's like,

Speaker:

you're saying,

Speaker:

oh, I'm so sorry.

Speaker:

I don't mean to interrupt you.

Speaker:

This really isn't that important.

Speaker:

I just have one little thing to tell you.

Speaker:

Instead, what I want you to do is get to the

Speaker:

topic. Here's another example,

Speaker:

just a quick announcement reminding you that we're all getting together

Speaker:

this afternoon at four hope you can join us.

Speaker:

Instead of saying that we're just get to the announcement.

Speaker:

So exciting.

Speaker:

Remember, we're getting together at four.

Speaker:

Can't wait to see you.

Speaker:

Then it puts so much more strengthened value to the topic

Speaker:

versus adding that word in.

Speaker:

Just now having said that there are a couple of times

Speaker:

when just does make sense to use,

Speaker:

like think of the Nike tagline.

Speaker:

Just do it when you use just in that way,

Speaker:

you're putting a significance on it.

Speaker:

Time-wise just do it.

Speaker:

So it actually adds strength in that.

Speaker:

Or when you want to say something like in a recipe

Speaker:

or something you say add just a pinch of sugar,

Speaker:

they are,

Speaker:

you're saying the extreme is small.

Speaker:

So at Nike you're saying powerful,

Speaker:

just do it big.

Speaker:

And then in a recipe you're saying Jost,

Speaker:

a pinch of sugar,

Speaker:

smaller, those extremes,

Speaker:

the word justice.

Speaker:

Great. But in communication generally,

Speaker:

when you're making a statement and you put just in there,

Speaker:

you diminish the importance in the value.

Speaker:

By eliminating this word,

Speaker:

you are creating more powerful,

Speaker:

stronger, and personable communication.

Speaker:

The second word ready for it.

Speaker:

The second word I want you to eliminate is the word.

Speaker:

Can't see the problem with the word.

Speaker:

Can't automatically sets up in your mind,

Speaker:

a failure.

Speaker:

You're unconsciously positioning yourself that you're not going to be able

Speaker:

to achieve something.

Speaker:

And I honestly hear this all the time from people and

Speaker:

I don't think they really recognize what they're doing.

Speaker:

And again,

Speaker:

I'm going to say,

Speaker:

I've done this to myself too.

Speaker:

I'm not just saying it because I'm so good at it.

Speaker:

I'm saying it because I'm recognizing it.

Speaker:

And I catch myself doing it too.

Speaker:

Here's an example.

Speaker:

I can't understand all the tech stuff.

Speaker:

You know,

Speaker:

people will say tech messes me up,

Speaker:

or I can't get that.

Speaker:

Or you know,

Speaker:

all these excuses with the word can't instead think about saying,

Speaker:

I'll find a way to manage and whatever that technical problem

Speaker:

is because let's face it in this day and age,

Speaker:

there are always ways to figure things out.

Speaker:

There's Google.

Speaker:

You can hire somebody real quick on a website like Fiverr

Speaker:

for just a few dollars to fix something that you need

Speaker:

fixed. You could talk to someone in your local chamber who

Speaker:

has the expertise.

Speaker:

Yeah. You might pay them a couple of dollars,

Speaker:

but you can turn those can'ts to Cannes.

Speaker:

Another example of cant could be can't build a website because

Speaker:

I don't have the money.

Speaker:

So you're already making an assumption that you can't do something

Speaker:

versus I know I need a website and I'll research what

Speaker:

my options are to make this happen.

Speaker:

See how much more opportunistic that sounds than automatically saying you

Speaker:

can't. I think lots of times we add the word can't

Speaker:

into our vocabulary because we don't know what those options are

Speaker:

out there.

Speaker:

And in the case of a website,

Speaker:

there are so many options.

Speaker:

You don't have to hire a designer and spend thousands of

Speaker:

dollars to get an online presence where you can sell your

Speaker:

products. When we say can't it virtually takes you out of

Speaker:

the game psychologically.

Speaker:

And the sad thing is we've done it to ourself.

Speaker:

While you can say,

Speaker:

can't someone else is finding out a way to say can

Speaker:

and are passing you by whether it's creating your product and

Speaker:

selling your product.

Speaker:

Whether it's establishing a website,

Speaker:

whether it's starting your business in the first place.

Speaker:

I want to know if you're willing to accept this challenge

Speaker:

with me,

Speaker:

we are going to eliminate these two words from our vocabulary,

Speaker:

as much as possible.

Speaker:

And to do this,

Speaker:

you have to do it consciously.

Speaker:

So just get rid of it from speaking from emails everywhere,

Speaker:

your communication will be so much more powerful and you will

Speaker:

only listen to,

Speaker:

and can't get that out of your vocabulary because you're limiting

Speaker:

your own thinking by using that word can't are you with

Speaker:

me? Are you accepting my challenge?

Speaker:

If so,

Speaker:

jump over to Instagram.

Speaker:

I'm at gift biz on rapt.

Speaker:

And let me know in the DMS that you're doing the

Speaker:

challenge, right alongside me,

Speaker:

eliminate these two words.

Speaker:

Watch for them.

Speaker:

Catch it before you do it,

Speaker:

adjust how you're saying things.

Speaker:

And honestly,

Speaker:

it might just change your life.

Speaker:

That's a wrap.

Speaker:

I may get to the point kind of girl.

Speaker:

And this is what you can expect from these quick midweek

Speaker:

sessions. Now it's your turn.

Speaker:

Go out and fulfill that dream of yours.
