Apple, Selfridges, Balenciaga, Harrod's\u2014the thief has expensive taste.\u00a0\nAt first blush, the\u00a0crimes sound easy to explain: A thief stole credit cards and used them in person at various stores before they could be caught.\u00a0\nBut for at least one victim, the story is more complex.\u00a0\u00a0\nIn August, Charlotte Morgan had her bag stolen\u00a0during an evening workout at her local gym in\u00a0Chiswick. The same pattern of high-price spending followed\u2014the thief spent nearly\u00a0\u00a33,000\u00a0at an Apple store in West London, another\u00a0\u00a31,000 at a separate Apple store, and then almost\u00a0\u00a3700 at Selfridges. But upon learning just how much the thief had spent, Morgan realized something was wrong: She didn't have that much money in her primary account. To access all of her funds, the thief would have needed to make a transfer out of her savings account, which would have required the use of her PIN.\u00a0\n\"[My PIN is]\u00a0not something they could guess...\u00a0So I thought 'That's impossible,'\" Morgan told the Lock and Code podcast.
