He served two tours of duty in Iraq and had the privilege of providing care as the geriatric general surgery clinic manager in a hospital setting in Naples, Italy. After his military service he spent 10 years in the nonprofit sector assisting veterans with physical and mental health disabilities.<br />During his 2nd tour in Iraq, Derek's father passed away at the age of 58. It was the unfortunate way in which he passed; alone and in a condemned house with little to no care. Derek vowed then and there that no human deserved <br />to be neglected and everyone in need will be treated with the utmost respect and dignity at any point in their time on this earth.
