She formerly coached a team on the tiny Long Island to national acclaim at Hofstra University, before being head-hunted for her new position.W

We are so excited to share the knowledge and wisdom of Missouri Tigers Head Coach, Larissa Anderson!

Today we discuss…

Her team’s big goals for the season

* Focusing only on themselves and what’s in their control* Working of perfect fundamentals and* Making sure there’s no double-standard in expectations

Getting the team past potential obstacles

* Dealing with weather that’s keeping the team off the field* Practicing getting through obstacles like being tired* Letting the players figure it out without coaching ALL the time

A drill to imitate game-day pressure

* 21 perfect plays in a row* Coach runs tempo & challenges players* Noticing and dealing with tension as drill goes on

Communicating to build a new culture

* Hearing the players’ perspective first* Making them feel comfortable sharing important feedback* Creating a culture of getting to the REAL answer

Taking care of yourself so we show up as our best

* Knowing your own balance* Finding ways to recharge* Doing what you need to be all in

COACHING CHALLENGE | Run the Perfect 21 drill without coaching

This may be one of the toughest challenges yet, because let’s face it- we coaches have a HARD time sitting back when things are going wrong. Run the Perfect 21 drill that Coach Anderson describes, but you are NOT allowed to provide any feedback or coaching when things go wrong. You are only allowed to ask questions or answer anything your players ask you directly.

Same goes for the other coaching staff too! The point is to get them to A) recognize when they need to regroup and B) find the most helpful way to refocus and get it done. It’s best to do this challenge at the beginning of the season or when you feel confident your players can figure it out amongst themselves.

We want to hear how you tackled this challenge and how your players responded! Give us a shout out on social media, shoot us a private message, or for our members, share it in the Dream Team Clubhouse!

That’s it for today! We hope you enjoyed the episode!

Mel & Alicia

FIND OUT HERE!

Coming up: Florida State University’s Lonni Alameda & San Diego State University’s Stacey Nuveman Deniz!

Enjoying these episodes?
