On publication, Deep Work\u00a0became\u00a0an instant Wall Street Journal bestseller, and received praise in the <a href=\"http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/31/books/review/dont-distract-me.html?_r=0\">New York Times Book Review</a>, <a href=\"http://www.wsj.com/articles/will-you-please-be-quiet-please-1453247167\">The Wall Street Journal</a>, <a href=\"http://www.economist.com/news/business/21688872-fashion-making-employees-collaborate-has-gone-too-far-collaboration-curse/\">The Economist</a>, and <a href=\"http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/jan/29/deep-work-change-your-life-oliver-burkeman\">The Guardian</a>.<br />\nNewport\u2019s previous book, <a href=\"http://calnewport.com/books/so-good/\">So Good They Can\u2019t Ignore You</a> (Grand Central, 2012), argues that \u201cfollow your passion\u201d is bad advice. Since its publication, it has been selected for several best business books of the year lists, including those by <a href=\"http://www.inc.com/jeff-haden/best-2012-books-for-entrepreneurs.html\" target=\"_blank\">Inc. Magazine</a>, <a href=\"http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/careers/management/top-10-business-books-of-the-year/article6212538/\" target=\"_blank\">The Globe and Mail</a>, and <a href=\"http://blog.800ceoread.com/2012/12/18/the-elite-eight-our-picks-for-the-top-business-books-of-2012/\" target=\"_blank\">800-CEO-Read</a>. Newport\u2019s <a href=\"http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/30/jobs/follow-a-career-passion-let-it-follow-you.html\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times op-ed</a> on the book became the paper\u2019s most e-mailed article for over a week.<br />\nNewport is also the author of three books of unconventional advice for students: <a href=\"http://calnewport.com/books/high-school-superstar/\">How to Be a High School Superstar</a> (Random House, 2010), <a href=\"http://calnewport.com/books/straight-a-student/\">How to Become a Straight-A Student </a>\u00a0(Random House, 2006), and <a href=\"http://calnewport.com/books/how-to-win-at-college/\">How to Win at College</a> (Random House, 2005).
