\r\nJordan DeCicco called his older brother, Jake, to tell him the news. \u201cI just called mom. \u00a0I\u2019m dropping out of school to pursue the business.\u201d
\r\n
\r\nJake couldn\u2019t believe it: his brother was leaving a full scholarship behind to start a coffee company. \u00a0In his head, he thought his brother was crazy. But his response surprised Jordan, and even himself: \u201cI\u2019m in\u201d. \u00a0
\r\n
\r\nNot long afterward, the oldest of the three brothers, Jim, decided to leave his high-paying job on Wall St. to join the business. \u00a0
\r\n
\r\nIn a matter of days, this went from \u201ccool idea\u201d to being all in. \u00a0That escalated quickly.
\r\n
\r\nBut let\u2019s take it back.
\r\n
\r\nAs a collegiate student-athlete, Jordan DeCicco was tired. \u00a0On his way to early morning basketball practices, he found himself in front of convenience store refrigerators, discontent with the lineup of their energy drinks and bottled coffee loaded with sugar. \u00a0He knew there had to be a better way.
\r\n
\r\nHe decided to scratch his own itch and turned to a blender in his dorm room, mixing together a combination of coffee, healthy fats, protein and zero sugar.
\r\n
\r\nBefore long, his teammates, coaches, classmates and professors were all drinking it. \u00a0Jordan knew he was onto something.
\r\n
\r\nStill full-time students, Jordan and Jake decided to spend the summer seeing if this business had potential. \u00a0Rather than think about it, they took action. They went into Whole Foods, bought an Honest Tea and brought it back to their dorm room. \u00a0They replaced the label with one that they created and filled the bottle with their \u201csuper coffee\u201d. Later that day, they returned to the same Whole Foods with this bottle, sold it to the manager and closed a deal with Whole Foods.
\r\n
\r\nThat led to the nerve-wracking call to mom. \u00a0Leaving aside two full-ride scholarships and a high-paying job on Wall St., the three DeCicco brothers were in business. \u00a0
\r\n
\r\nThey worked from 7 pm to 5 am in a distribution plant, spending the rest of their day delivering and selling the product.
\r\n
\r\nThey beat the 40,000 to 1 odds (!) of getting on Shark Tank and made national headlines for their business.
\r\n
\r\nThey even landed a $5M investment from an impromptu meeting with WeWork Founder Adam Neumann. \u00a0
\r\n
\r\nThe lesson? \u00a0
\r\n
\r\nLuck doesn\u2019t find you on your couch watching Netflix. \u00a0It finds you when you\u2019re out there hustling, working towards your dreams.
\r\n
\r\nTheir message to the world?
\r\n
